CHAPTER 46: ARCEE'S APOLOGY
"You did what yesterday?!" Jack, Miko and Raf asked and stared at Evelyn as though she just said she decided to press the biggest self-destruct button for fun.
They were currently sitting in KO Burgers again for lunch and Evelyn had chosen to tell them about the Miko she pulled yesterday.
"Yup, I pulled another Miko yesterday." Evelyn said then she fiddled with the straw. "Can't say I'm proud of my second one."
"Girl, you just saw Optimus pull out a sword like Excalibur and a bad@$$ one at that and saw a robot smack down up close again?! I am so jealous." Miko said.
"Miko! She nearly died!" Raf said.
"Tell me something I don't know Captain Obvious." Miko said.
"Guys, enough." Jack said. Then he turned to look at her. "That was crazy and risky but then again, a part of me isn't that surprised all things considered."
"But we're glad you're ok." Raf said.
"Yeah, we got worried when you didn't answer us." Miko said.
"Sorry bout' that mates." Evelyn said.
The three of them waved it off. Then Evelyn decided to get down to business.
"Putting jokes aside, there's a lot more to the Star Sabre than you think. If anything it's even more than the other relics we've found." She said.
"What did we miss?" Miko asked.
"We're kinda loss here, mind filling us in?" Jack asked.
Evelyn then told them about the Star Sabre's origins, or rather what she knew of it from the others.
"So it can only be wielded by Optimus?" Raf asked.
Evelyn nodded. "It can only be wielded by a hand of a Prime."
"So basically, it is like Excalibur." Jack concluded.
"Exactly what I thought." Evelyn said. "Except it's ten times better and let's just say that those con buggers are screwed. Check out just how much firepower that relic is packing."
She took her phone out and showed them the picture she took of Optimus slicing through the rock like butter.
"Woah, that Star Sabre is like a frigging' light sabre!" Miko said. "Just like the ones used by the Jedi." She swung her straw around like a sabre, mimicking light sabre sound effects and nearly poked Jack in the eye.
"That's no light sabre but it can still poke my eye out and I want to keep it." Jack said pushing her away.
"I think it kinda suits Optimus since he kinda sounds like a Jedi master most of the time anyways." Miko said.
"Which one?" Raf asked.
Evelyn and Miko looked at each other. "Obi Wan Kenobi." They chorused together.
Jack shook his head. "How do you guys do that?"
They both shrugged. "One of the many mysteries of the universe." Evelyn said.
"The one mystery I wish I could solve is why Math has to be so complicated." Miko muttered.
"Good luck solving that mystery." Jack snorted. "Even without Math the chances of you succeeding is one to a million."
"You're wrong Jack." Raf said. "It's one to a billion."
"Agreed." they all said.

Soon the quartet were back in the Autobot base and doing their homework....well three of them were anyway.
"Why. Is. This. So. Hard?!" Miko asked emphasizing each word by banging her head on the table as though that would jog her brain.
"Did you pay attention in class?" Evelyn asked.
Miko snorted. "Ya think?" she asked.
"Well there's your answer." Evelyn said before going back to scribbling Math equations.
"Raf, you gotta help me. If I don't hand this in tomorrow, the teacher's goanna have my head." Miko said scuttling over to where Raf was almost done with his own homework.
Raf took the book from Miko's hand and looked at the questions. "It's not that hard, really you just have to-"
"Stop reminding me that I suck at this and just help me!" Miko said and shoved a pencil into the startled boy's grasp.
"I don't know who to feel sorry for more. Miko or Raf?" Smokescreen asked.
"Raf." Jack replied instantly.
"Death by Math, now that'd make a pretty ace headline." Evelyn said. "Speaking of which, I better stop before I bring said death upon myself." She said putting down the pen and stretching her arms over her head.
"Did you ever have to do Math homework back on Cybertron?" Jack asked.
"Actually, yes we did." Bulkhead said. "Definitely not my area of expertise."
Evelyn took the stairs down two at a time and when she arrived at the landing, she looked up and saw Arcee standing in front of her.
"Hey." Arcee said.
"Hi." Evelyn greeted awkwardly. Admittedly, she was a bit guilty about snapping at Arcee yesterday even though the femme had been rather harsh, she was no better. Evelyn valued the friendship she had with Arcee. It wasn't as close as the one with Smokescreen but it was still something. She even looked up to Arcee and a small part of Evelyn wanted to be like her.
"Can I talk to you for a minute? I wanna talk to you too, kid." Arcee addressed both Evelyn and Smokescreen.
Smokescreen who was leaning against a wall lazily blinked and pointed at himself. "Me?"
Arcee rolled her optics. "Who else?" she asked.
Smokescreen stepped away from the wall. "Okay, what's up?" he asked.
"Not here." Arcee said and walked away. She turned around and nodded her head in the 'come on' gesture.
Smokescreen followed her and Evelyn had to jog to keep up. She was familiar with the Autobot's base by now. She knew its layout, she knew which room is which and where, she knew the hallways and turns and even the 'secret' compartments as the others have dubbed it since they could fit in while the other bots couldn't.
Soon they were in an empty corridor. Arcee stopped there.
"So.....what did you wanna talk about?" Evelyn asked.
Arcee seemed to think about what to say for a while which was rare since she more often than not speaks her mind. "I wanted to talk about yesterday."
Smokescreen's optics widened and he swallowed nervously. "Am I....going to be replaced?" he asked.
Arcee looked baffled. "What?! No!" she said.
"Then what did you want to talk about?" Evelyn asked.
Arcee took a deep breath. "I want to apologize for what I said yesterday." She said.
Smokescreen blinked and his jaw dropped open, not believing what his audio receptors were hearing. Did Arcee just apologize to him?! He pinched himself and.....nope this wasn't a dream.
"Arcee, are you okay? Did you get hit in the helm too hard yesterday? Are you feelin' dizzy? Do you need to see the doc?" Smokescreen asked rapidly firing off questions in worry. Then he put three digits up. "How many digits am I holding up?"
Arcee scowled and gripped his wrist before putting it in a painful wrist lock. Smokescreen yelped and cried out in pain. "Okay, ow ow ow! She's good!" he said giving Evelyn a thumbs up with his other servo that wasn't in agony.
Arcee released him and stepped back. "But seriously, I want to say I'm sorry. Even if what the two of you did was reckless and dangerous, I shouldn't have jumped the gun like that. What I said crossed the line.
"I take back what I said about you being a guardian Smokescreen, you deserve to be one as much as me and the others. I shouldn't have snapped like that without knowing all the facts." She said.
Evelyn smiled and stepped forward. "I'm sorry too, for snapping at you. You're right, what I did was reckless and could've cost both of us our lives. I never should've done it to begin with. Can you forgive me too?"
"I shouldn't have rushed in solo either, I should've just wait for backup. Think you've got room in your forgiveness for one more?" Smokescreen asked.
Arcee gave them both a rare genuine smile. "Of course, can we start over?" she asked and put her fist out.
Smokescreen grinned and fist bumped her. "It's cool, we've pretty much put it behind us."
"Let bygones be bygones." Evelyn agreed and Arcee knelt down so she could connect fists with her even though Evelyn's fist was barely as big as her digit.
"Ok, now that that's out of the way, can we check out the Star Sabre now?" Evelyn asked.
Arcee nodded. "I think it's high time we did."
