5. Wonder What You Were Doing
Hi Everyone <3
I'm back with a new update!
As always, there's no guarantee that this one's any better or less crappie. Hehe.
Anyway, I love this one too because...erm why not?
So if you liked it, please support by voting or commenting!
Warning: Contains swear words.
Mondays are honestly more frightening than my mother, seriously.
Nah, strike that. My mom is it. No arguments.
Anyway, the day before we had loads of fun. I, mom, dad and Louis went out for dinner after a very long time, actually forgetting the fact that it was a school night and my senior year began the next day. My idiotic brother had a week for himself before leaving for the college, so yeah; he was the one who proposed the plan.
At that moment, I was absent mindedly chewing the back of the pencil, technically the light pink eraser attached to it, as usual, staring at nothing specific. I had loads of expectations. I thought something would be different but it's the same boring school day.
Plus, on receiving my schedule I realized that I'd be having English first, which was frustrating as I got as good as dead after studying literature.
What did you expect, Char?
I sighed.
"I bet that tastes good because look at the poor eraser, its nearly gone. There are just little traces of its remains." A familiar voice made me snap out of my daydreaming. I shot my head up only to greet a familiar pair of joyful brown eyes only belonging to a certain someone from park. His mouth curved into a grin, showing off his white teeth. "Hey, soul mate!"
I jerked backwards, rocking my chair in fright. Geez.
What was wrong with this guy?
"Blake Vector." I mumbled, positioning my chair.
"One and only." He said as he took the seat next to me without even asking for permission. I stared at him, observing him.
"And may I ask what's your royal highness is doing here?"
"Your majesty likes your company." He smirked making me roll my eyes.
"He's joined the Rockwood High!" I heard Eleanor screaming from my left.
I looked at Blake for an explanation and he still grinned like a maniac. "Yup." He said, "Since my dad got transferred here and I still needed to complete my senior year, I had to get into some school."
"So, you're stuck with me." He smiled, looking at the two of us.
***
"Stop following me, Vector!" I said turning back swiftly to face Blake who was still following me, now with a drained expression.
"What?" I asked rolling my eyes at him.
The rest of the day passed in a blur. You'd have no idea how I survived Blake Vector throughout the day, of course, with this new and improved Eleanor Carter who was acting pretty enthusiastic and cheery for her usual self. I mean I earned glares from people. It's not like they don't stare at me. I'm an eyeful.
Okay just stop.
"I-I am sorry." He said quietly with honesty in his voice which was enough to slap some sense into the back of my head and immediately made me feel guilty for behaving so rudely with him.
"Blake, I'm so sorry-"
"No, Charlotte. I get it. I am sorry for following around the entire day but believe me I don't have anyone to hang out with." He said tracing circles on the skin of his hand with his thumb and looking down.
I sighed.
"Then, make some new friends, Blake. You are a nice guy. I swear tones of people will welcome with open arms." It was true. Being friends with someone as funny and understanding like Blake needed no convincing. He was just wasting his time here with me.
His eyes suddenly were filled with starlight, I swear starlight was it, and it seemed that his brown orbs were gleaming. "So you admit that! Ha!" if I were in his shoes, I would have died of cringe but he's Blake Vector!
I bent down to tie my shoelaces, hearing him speak.
"That means you shouldn't have any problem with me tagging along with you and besides, what if I don't need any more friends when I have you guys!" he said almost happily.
You guys....?
I looked up and almost jumped on my spot when my eyes greeted a cheekily smiling Eleanor Carter who had her harm swung around Blakey boy's neck.
Blake in turn had his arms folded over his chest with a grin plastered on his face. I don't even want to know why on earth she was wearing sunglasses at this time of the day.
"Heya, chica!" she said in a miserably failed British accent. I stared her blankly as I got up.
"What's wrong with you two?" I arched an eyebrow at the weird pose the two striked.
"Oh" I heard El mumbling as she searched her pockets only to pull out a pair of sunglasses out and putting it over Blake's eyes.
"We are the new BFF's, ta-da!" the two idiots yelled enthusiastically, together. I looked around. Wow, they had put-up quite a good show. People had begun to notice.
My mouth was hanging, literally hanging down up to my knees.
I examined the two idiots in front of me and couldn't help but cover my mouth.
"Is she puking?"
Blake asked El in confusion which brought up a suddenly urge inside me to smack his head.
"Probably, laughing?" El replied and that was the limit.
I burst into laughter at their faces hysterically, people looking at me as if I needed to be taken to a mental hospital immediately.
Wait, laughing like a maniac in front of the place where you're supposed to be working part time when, it's your first day and when you're already two and a half hours late is not right, is it?
Absolutely not.
But still, it's the best thing that's happened today.
"Man Blake, do you think she's jealous?" Eleanor ducking Carter suggested.
"Why would she be jealous?" he said almost immediately why I was still out of control of my hysteric laughing. "-Maybe if she's already half way in love with me. I mean don't you think that too? It even makes sense, she's gone nuts! I'm actually worried now. She's literally neighing!"
That's it.
Those words triggered a familiar agitation within me and I tried to stop myself from laughing anymore.
"Me? In love with you? The amount of times you daydream in a single day makes gets me worried for you, Barconn!"
I pulled my eyebrows together as I noticed a weird expression covering up El's face.
Now what?
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Ice princess!" I heard him say, "I was joking besides, Vector is it, alright? Not Barconn." Blake said with a small smile and I realized where I went wrong.
Damn it.
I froze on my spot as if I had seen a ghost. How could you forget, Char?!
"Hey-" Blake said gently stepping forward as I took a step back. "-look, I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to hang out with you and El, that's it. I know you work here and I shouldn't-"
"It's okay, Blake." I said pursing my lips to force a smile. What had I done?
"Whose, Barconn anyway?" he asked playfully, placing his hands back into the pockets of his jeans.
It was El's turn to pop into the conversation. "That's nobody. Good as dead-"
"El!" I snapped. Don't talk about him that way. I thought.
"What?" she stared at me, angrily. "Never mention that name again."
Blake's mouth turned into an 'o'.
"Is he the guy who-? Oh my god, Char, I'm so sorry." He apologized again, "It was really asshole-ish of me to bring that asshole up."
I arched an eyebrow at him. "What-ish?"
He looked at me dumbfounded. "What's the word then? Wait, do we say 'it was asshole-ly of me' or something like that here?"
I chuckled, "We say neither." And he did that again, a weird gesture he always does with his eyes when he looks. I was sure imagining things, right?
"Well, aren't you two cute?" El said out of nowhere, clapping her hands together. I rolled my eyes.
"Blake, El," I said, "I work here, no, technically I don't, yet but anyway, I can't let you both come with me."
"But according to Mrs. Evans I am supposed to help you, Char!" she said pulling her eyebrows together.
"Yeah, I know." I sighed, "But Blake needs you-" I said looking at Blake who in turn looked at me with...puppy dog eyes? "-as he refuses to hang out with anyone else."
"No, problem!" he exclaimed, "I'm coming in anyway. Maybe I get to work here too." He winked at me.
"Now let's get it. I'm good with kids anyway. I can do any job from lifting things to waiting tables or-" heard him blabbering when I turned back looking for the address and scratching my elbow.
My eyes travelled to a little girl, around ten steps away from us. My eyes widened in horror as I realized she was bending over, probably to tie her shoe laces, not realizing that a van was approaching her.
No, no, no! god please no!
"El, Blake! I need your help!" I yelled in urgency, running after the girl on the road.
As I reached her, my first instinct was to swing her away but then I realized that something was wrong. The little girl had tears in her eyes. She was probably hurt. Her shoestring was stuck with an iron rod coming out of it. I quickly removed the shoe off her feet and scooped her away with me to the other side of the road. Its condition was pretty bad. It needed maintenance!
Wait, it wasn't possible for someone as lazy as me to do all of this so quickly.
I turned my head back only to notice that Blake and Eleanor had successfully stopped the van driver.
I sighed in relief.
"Is that an iron rod coming out of a broken road?" I heard El with shock in her voice, "this is so going on the internet. I'll let the authorities know." The journalist and activist sleeping inside of her spoke.
I turned back to the little, almost five or six year old girl in front of me. "Are you alright?"
She nodded. I realized her knee was bleeding.
"What happened?" I asked the girl questioning her politely.
"I just fell over the road before you came." She said with tears welling in her eyes.
"Oh my god, we need to take her to a doctor! She's not fine! Oh my god!" I started panicking. Eleanor tried to calm me down. She said I was making it a big deal while her wound was minor.
"Alexis?" A voice called out from behind. We all turned back and found a brown haired woman, identical to the little girl. She looked at us in horror, her dark eyes irises were shining due to the accumulation of tears.
She ran towards us, looking hauntingly familiar.
Where had I seen her before?
She swung her arms around the little girl- Alexis's torso. "Where had you been? I had been looking for you everywhere!"
"It's okay, mom. Besides, she saved me!" Alexis said freeing herself from her mother's hold and smiling at me. I smiled back.
"We need to get her some bandages." I informed her mother.
"Thank you so much!" she said, her voice was trembling. "It's so foolish of me to let her out of the house like that. I'm just a bad parent. Steph's right. Oh my god. Thank you!"
"Nah, that's okay Alexis's mom!" El said, "Char, has a thing for finding lost kids and returning them to their parents. It's a thing she often does." And the woman almost laughed. I glared at my friend understanding the fact that she was bringing Kev up.
"There's more...?" I heard Blake asking.
"Oh trust me, Blakey boy, you haven't met the bumper prize yet!" and the two of them laughed.
"Anyway, I'm so grateful to you all." The woman said, "I'm Olivia by the way. Olivia Brown"
Dang it! I knew she was familiar.
"Talk about coincidences!" I said, "I'm Charlotte!"
Her eyes sparkled. "Charlotte Evans? No way, you've grown up. Where were you? I thought you'd be coming today."
"Yeah-" I said glaring at El and Blake, "I was just stuck with something. I'm so sorry ma'am please don't fire me or anything. My mom has a lot of expectations-"
"It's fine! Call me Olivia" she laughed. "You all should come with me. Plus, we need to help Alexis out." She said and Blake picked the little girl up in a second and she giggled.
"I think she likes me." He commented with a smile.
I was still uncertain of following her back to her house however, Blake had made his mind, and I could see it.
"Come on, Char. You mom and I have known eachother for so long. I won't fire you." She said calmly. I noticed how El, Blake and Alexis were drowned in their own small talks. "and I would've almost lost Alexis, if it weren't for you all, Charlotte." She was still tensed.
"That's nothing, Ms Brown." I reassured her, "It's not your fault."
She forced a little laugh. "Trust me, I am just prone to hurt anyone extremely close to me by taking absurd decisions."
And I don't know why it felt so relatable?
She walked away, expecting me to follow her and I did but I was lost in my own thoughts.
Same Olivia.
I take the most absurd decisions in the history of absurd decisions. Speaking of which, I couldn't help but remember a certain someone.
At that moment, I wondered you were doing.....
💫
Same day, same time,
London, England....
(Unknown's POV)
I fixed my gaze on the piano, looking at my fingers dancing upon the black and while keys filling the room with the sweet melody. I was physically present, though not mentally.
"A little more, a bit more,
I swear I could've saved us from-
The web of lies that I wove,
The game we played wouldn't have lasted this long."
I forced a smile at the dimly lighted audience that looked at me in awe. My fingers traced the piano keys continuously.
"Your eyes were my home,
Nah, this should come out up too strong."
Don't break down. I need to get through this. Don't let your rage consume you.
I told myself.
"I hate you now but I loved you back then,
And all this while let's pretend,
My heart was never yours to begin with.
I don't know how many lies I have told you since then.
I wish none of it began, none of it ever began...."
I shut my eyes while I continued playing the outro not knowing when my fingers automatically stopped and when the small bunch of people in front of me started calling out for me in appreciation. Reluctantly, I got up from my seat and stood up, in the middle of the dimly lit room, again with a fake smile.
"He was amazing!" I heard Emily, the blonde woman who was probably in her mid thirties, speaking to her husband, Bill in a thick British accent.
"Yeah kid, that was amazing." Bill, the same guy for whom I was forced to perform praised me. "Pardon me, I quite didn't catch your name."
I thought for a while before continuing. "It's Aiden, sir." I imitated a pretty good accent to cover myself.
"Oh yes, Aiden is it. You are brilliant." He replied, "Thanks for performing for us." I sighed.
The things I am forced to do sometimes....
I mumbled something to the guy and walked over to the corner.
My life was a horrible mess. I din't know who I was anymore.
I was at this bar, of course my dad had everything to do with it, along with his 'staff'. It was Bill and Emily's eleventh marriage anniversary and a specific person, more speciafically who was eyeing me throughout the performance, pushed me up to sing!
I saw him walking towards me with a smirk on his face. But hey! That's my job.
"I totally cannot wait for your child, Alexander, actually no, children as in twins Alex and Xander singing the same song ten years later." he said, with mischief in his blue eyes.
I had a good look at his face to make sure he wasn't drunk or anything. "That was not funny. Actually, anyone who named their children Alex-Xander should be sued. Besides, I have just turned eighteen by the way, so it would be better to not talk about such horrible things." I grabbed a drink from the waiter passing by.
Dave laughed straight at my face. "Actually you should be sued. Who names themselves Aiden?! I mean do you have any idea how ancient it sounds?"
"What?" I grumpily mumbled, scratching my head, "That was the first name that popped up on 'babymamacares.com' when I searched for baby boy names that meant handsome. It's the only thing that came close to my beauty." Dave glared at me.
"So the heir of the Walker Enterprises, the Finn Wa-" I raised my free hand hurriedly and hushed, preventing him from saying that out loud. "-the Finn Walker" he whispered, "visited the Iambabymama.com? that's hilarious, Aiden" he mocked me. He was enjoying it.
"It's not, I am baby mama dot com, D. you've got everything wrong." I complained.
"Yeah just like the song you just played." He murmured causing me to arch an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?"
He rolled his eyes. "Fi- I mean Aiden. I got it!" he said raising his arms when he realized that I was going to cut him off for taking my real name. Dad had strictly sworn us to secrecy of our real identity. We could not afford to get caught.
We were technically there to spy but I ended up playing up on the stage.
"You see they are celebrating their eleventh wedding anniversary. Probably to stay together forever" Dave pointed at the couple.
"Yeah...?" I was still confused.
"So, why on earth did you sing a song about separation, about hating someone, you moron?!" he said animatedly.
I fell quite. "Because revenge's all in my mind." I coldly stated, me blue eyes fixed on the glass of juice in my hand.
Say no to alcohol. It would just make me less hot in my forties, if I catch any sort of cancer or anything.
He sighed. "That's it, Finn. You can't stay like that forever. You no longer wear leather jackets or for that matter do anything that reminds you of her. Why can't you just forget it all-"
"I can't Dave!" I lowered my voice when I realized that I was almost yelling. "I can't. She betrayed me. Every time you bring her up, you don't know how bad I want to confront her, how bad I want to hurt her!" I didn't know why but whenever I spoke crap about her, a part of me always wanted to slap myself on the face.
"You know, you were by fault too-"
"Forget it, D." I said turning away. I gulped the remaining of my juice in one go.
"In a nutshell," he placed a hand on my shoulder. "-You can't gloom all day, lashing out on people just because you fell in love-" he stopped himself from saying anything anymore. "I don't know what's wrong with you-"
I gritted my teeth. My eyes were burning in anger. I don't want to hear anything about anyone.
I pretty much hated everyone I loved. I hated everyone who had ever pretended to have cared for me.
Dad.
Mom.
Her.
"There's nothing wrong with me. I just fell out of love." I said cutting him off.
Before he could interject or say anything, I noticed two men, approximately a couple of inches taller than me, approaching the two of us. I observed them suspiciously and gestured Dave to look over.
He felt something was wrong too.
"The two of you, follow us." We realized they were dressed in black. They looked pretty deadly. I looked at Dave who shrugged.
"We need you two, out, men." He repeated.
"Is there something wrong, sir?" I bothered to ask first. Damn you, Dave.
The two of them proportionately took a step forward. "No" it was a mental relief. "Not if any of you have Walker as your surname." He said and the two of us froze on our spot.
Our cover was blown. I knew they knew.
The man next to him signaled us to follow him out of the bar and we did.
We pushed back the people and got out of the back door. The place was quite dark and drop dead silent. It was weird. It was almost impossible to run away. I traced the surroundings thoroughly.
"So, what's your name again." He questioned me. I have never been this mad at Dave before.
"Aiden." I said confidently, "Aiden Hayes." Sorry, Jaxon brother for using your last name for unauthorized purposes but it was the first thing that popped into my mind when we were getting our fake ID's done.
"Jacob-" the lanky one said to the more haunting one, "-I was unaware of the fact that Finn Walker can be also pronounced as Aiden Hayes, did Mary Stewart teach you that?"
"Who's Mary Stewart?" I couldn't help but ask.
Finn Fucking Walker! You should run for your life and not worry about the adventures of a bald man and his horrific black haired counterpart!
"Jacob's primary school teacher. That's farthest he's ever studied, right Jake?"
Jacob hissed at him which confirmed his story.
What's wrong with me?
"See, guys, I guess it's a misunderstanding-" I heard Dave interrupt our small talk. Gee, thanks, finally!
"Oh, cut the crap both of you. As if we don't know where Arthur had been hiding his rats!" he spat.
"We don't have time. Turn them in." Jacob yelled over and immediately, pulled Dave's arm backwards, tightly, not giving him even a second to fight back. I looked at them in horror.
We are so fucking dead.
I saw him drawing out a knife out of his pocket and pulling it over D's neck.
The other one turned towards me and my first instinct was to bent down, to tie my shoe laces.
What? I'm not kidding.
Before the other guy could get his hands over me, from behind, I pulled up my jeans from my left leg and pulled out a gun, placing my fingers around the trigger and standing up in a swift motion. I pointed the head of the gun towards the guy who had Dave. I was terrified.
I had only done this once before.
"Pull it down, little boy." The man yelled but I was determined.
I stood sternly and lowered the gun, immediately pulling the trigger which was now pointed at his leg. The gun had a silencer attached to it and hence there was no noise on the trigger being pulled. Dave freed himself from his grip and approached the other guy who was on the verge of stabbing my back, not metaphorically, physically.
The guy, Jacob, I had just shot, fell onto to floor, wincing, clenching his thigh. I knew he'd try to get up sooner. I decided.
My hands were sweaty and the gun could almost fall but we had to run.
"Dave!" I screamed. He looked at me and nodded, kicking the guy in his guts for the last time.
Dave looked at me pitifully for what I had just done. I had just shot someone!
And that was a big deal!
He pulled my arm and ran; my legs subconsciously matched the pattern of his footsteps at his pace.
What had I gotten myself into?
I was always bad but never ruined.
And she was the one who ruined me, for worse.
If only, she hadn't turned the odds against me, maybe I could've been saved. Maybe, I would never have hated her.
I couldn't wait to get back to you, only to make your life worse.
Apart from your usual hobby of betraying people,
I wondered what were you doing....
And that's all!
So... This was the newest chapter from the story, never been posted before!
Just had a few questions on my mind, you can answer them if you feel like :)
1. First of all, he's back! Omagsaakkg! I couldn't wait so I let him come. Anyone happy/sad? Or hating on him?
2. What's up with Finn? Any guesses?
3. What about Blake and Charlotte? Anyone who wishes for them to be together and letting Mr. Walker out of the picture?
4. Anyone loving Alexis or Olivia?
5. Can you spare a moment to let me know about your fav/funniest scene from Let's Lie/let's Pretend or this chapter? Please :)
6. Anything you wish to change about this book?
P. S. The last one. What's your hair and eye colour? Mine are brown and I don't like it lmao.
Keep reading. Thank you so much. I love you all ❤️❤️
