3. When We First Met
A/N
Heya! Back with the newest crappy chapter!
There's a thing I wanted to share with you guys.... According to me words can be written by anyone but can be brought to life by just a few.
This chapter is dedicated to my favorite author on Wattpad (in fact on the planet) BBBURGER--- go and follow him. He's better than any author to ever exist.
He guarantees to bring any story to life. Go and check out his works and follow him or Private Message him for great ideas or advices.
His poetries really inspire me.
:)
"And here we meet again."
As his words were registered by my brain, I blinked gently, trying to assess his presence. While, he stood there and smiled, giving a little squeeze to his dark brown eyes and a little, fainted dimple appeared on his right cheek.
"We- We have met before." It was meant to be a question but the tone of my voice clearly portrayed it as a statement.
Yes, I have met him. It wasn't even a question. I can't forget his face. "Have you met me?" dumbly, I still blurted.
"Yeah-" He chuckled all of a sudden, and looked down at his feet before looking back up, "Oh yeah! Didn't I see you on the cover page of Vogue?"he said immediately changing his expressions, replacing the smile with an amused look.
I arched an eyebrow at him.
Seriously? That's all he could come up with?
He just laughed it off. "Well, hello, soul mate!" he greeted. I was completely taken back by his colorful use of words. "Oh, not my words-" He said pointing at someone, "-But hers.". I turned back to find Martha, the fortune teller waving at me nervously. I gave her a stern look before looking at him.
"Oh please, I'm really very sorry for that one." I said awkwardly in embarrassment.
"No problem." He pursed his lips soon after completing his words. My mind suddenly wandered to my apparent best friend whose voice I hadn't heard in minutes and it was scaring me. I looked at her from the corner of my eye.
She stood on my left eyeing the both of us. I almost scowled at her when her eyes met mine.
"Who the hell are you, pretty boy?" Eleanor jumped between us extended her hand forward. The guy shook hands with her gently before pulling back. "-And how the hell I don't know you?"
I gritted my teeth at this idiot.
I thought I'm the most idiotic creature on this planet but Eleanor's worse.
"You think I'm pretty?" The guy laughed. It's kind of weird to not now his name. I mean I remember him as the Park Boy because of the fact I met him at the park for the first time. It was the most dreadful day for me, the day I lost someone.
I lost him.
It was the last time I saw Finn....
He is the same guy whose girlfriend cheated on him back that day when I found the truth about Finn.
"Duh, of course you are!" I heard Eleanor mumble something, "Don't you think that too, Char?"
I looked at her blankly. I had absolutely no idea about what she was talking about. Absurdly, I nodded in agreement. It took me a moment to realize what I had agreed to.
The guy looked down at his feet, smiling. I am actually not used to see boys even close to blushing. I mean it's like a first time for me.
"Thanks." He replied. A tainted shade of pink appeared on the top of his cheeks. "You yourself look Netflix."
I was taken aback by his response...........Netflix? I look like Netflix? How was I even supposed to respond?
"I-what?" I blurted.
From the looks, I know he panicked. I opened my mouth to let him know that I didn't mind his joke but he cut me off abruptly. "I mean I can watch you for hours."
Now it was my turn to be embarrassed.
"Oh my gosh!" I heard El squeal in excitement. "What did I just hear?"
"A pick up line that, as you can see, didn't work." I said with a bored expression plastered on my face.
"Aw man! That didn't work? I guess I have to try harder, Charlotte Evans." He said, crackling his knuckles with a fake disappointment.
I looked at him and arched an eyebrow, quizzically. "Try harder what? Beating the hell out of me?"
"I think my gestures conveyed the wrong message." He immediately replied.
"You should try thinking harder and often and of course not about the cheesy stuff you tried to feed us." I looked at his face. He was silent. I admit I sounded rude.
Oops.....
I guess?
"What?" I asked.
"What what?" He said blankly. "That was offending." His chocolate brown eyes never left mine.
I rolled my eyes. "Oh, my comments offended you? You should hear the ones I kept with myself." I faked a chuckle.
He smirked. He no longer looked disappointed or anything, accepting my words like a challenge. "You know I always had a feeling that you'd never forget about me after our first meeting but damn girl, you even have opinions about me."
"Oh, please!" I said extending my palm, gesturing him to stop. "I have better things to do."
"Like what?"
"I don't know... like converting Oxygen from Carbon dioxide?" he laughed at my comment. My gaze flickered to my best friend who stood straight near me, squinting at us.
"Char, do you realize that he knows your name?" She gently touched my shoulder. "You guys are creeping the hell out of me."
Wait a second.
Yeah...She's right. He knows my name, but how?
"You know my name, park boy?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "How?"
"Park boy? How authentic." He commented, rolling his eyes. He clearly wasn't in the favor of the little temporary pseudo name I gave him months ago in my head.
"That's because I never caught your name." I said.
He smirked yet again. "That's because I never threw it." It didn't even take him a second to through my words from our last meeting back on my face. I groaned in frustration which was funny according to him. He laughed his heart out because that's the exact thing I told him when he asked me for my name. It came back to me.... Wow.
"Geez, you monster, what are you made of?" I scowled at him as I found his guffaw annoying.
"One hundred percent boyfriend material." He smiled making me roll my eyes once again.
"Would you stop flirting?" I was in a full mood to argue by then. "It doesn't sound right coming from a guy who was saddened by the immense loss of his ex." I immediately regretted my words. It wasn't really necessary to bring up his personal life.
I need to stop talking like I know this guy since forever.
"Says the girl who hates her ex with all her heart. You shouldn't even complain." I fell quite. I didn't even have an ex to talk about. All I had was someone with whom I thought I shared a pretty good equation, nothing more and absolutely nothing less. I controlled myself from saying anything else. I knew I'd make it worse. I couldn't even counter his comment as I was the one who brought it up in the first place. So, I guess we are even.
"What are you guys even talking about-" Eleanor started with a full pace before slowing down. I looked at her and followed the direction of her gaze. My eyes landed on a figure approaching us.
He had his head down, though; a part of his face was still visible. Green-black grease was smudged across his which suddenly made me want to laugh.
Louis looked frustrated but soon, all of us caught his eye and he looked bit relieved. He marched towards us and on the way even stumbled upon a stone. He made a face and probably muttered a couple of curse words under his breath.
"Heya, Blake!" my brother said to the park boy. They....know each other? "You found them, eh?" Lou said as he wiped the mud off his shirt.
I crossed my arms to my chest and glared at Blake. He looked at me nervously as his cover was blown. "Y-yeah Louis. I found them."
"So...You're Blake?" I asked with a slight glimpse of a smile on my lips.
"Blake Vector to be precise." He smiled back.
Geez, he smiled way too much. I wonder if its muscles ever hurt from all this smiling.
"You know each other already?" My brother asked.
"I had the same doubt!" Eleanor interrupted.
"Of course. Why would you two not have the same doubt?" I said teasingly, emphasizing on the word 'not'. Their pissed expressions didn't go unnoticed. I decided to ignore them both. I turned towards the park buy, now Blake.
Blake.
Blake Vector.
Vector...really?
No Charlotte, there's no way you can make puns at the moment....
But I can't stop myself. BWAHAHAHAHA-
"So Mr Vector...." I said, "Where are your caps?" I asked like an idiot.
No charlotte! You didn't say that.
"What caps?" Blake said with his eyes pulled together in confusion. I looked at El who was confused as well. I bit the inside of my cheek to prevent myself from laughing at his face.
"i cap, j cap, k cap?" I asked casually.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-
No one got the joke, Char.
Blake stared me for ten seconds straight without blinking, his light brown eyes as if giving a direct hint of my mental illness.
"O-kayyy-" he said stressing on the y's, "-Is that some inside dirty joke you're not sharing with me? I mean it's fine, you know but god will never forgive you for-"
"Shut up!" I said, cutting him off, "How old are you? Five?"
Eleanor laughed at both of us. "Oh, come on Char! He's such a cute-" I noticed Louis snapping in her direction as the 'cute' word escaped her mouth. He gave him a questioning nod, his electrifying blue eyes as if saying 'seriously?'. Eleanor probably noticed it too as she paused for a while before continuing, "-guy."
Oh my god!
Did my brother and my best friend have an eye to eye conversation?
Was that jealousy on my brother's face?
Did my eyes hear right?
Seriously? My conscience would've rolled her eyes at this one... I mean, if she has any eyes.
Lame.
I didn't want to get overly excited and freak out in front of these many people. I seceded that changing the topic for the moment would do absolutely fine.
"And about the joke-"I said turning back to Mr Blake-empty head-Vector. "-it's not an adult joke. I just wanted to ask whether you have direction associated with your magnitude." I mentally slapped myself for saying that. I should really keep my treasure of immense knowledge at home.
"A what associated with what?" Blake asked. A funny expression was clanged on his face. He had absolutely no clue about what I was talking.
"My mom is associated with my dad though." Eleanor jumped in between the conversation with a stupid response.
"Am I the only one who's wondering whether I'm associated with any of you or not?" Louis said with a sour expression spread across his greased face.
Apart from that I seriously regretted the fact that I even tried to make a physics pun amongst these non productive teenagers. They don't have a clue that all the fuss is just about the stupid word Vector. Google it.
I rolled my eyes at them. I, seriously never thought that someone can be dumber than me.
"Never mind!" Eleanor exclaimed out of nowhere. "Where are we even heading to? I mean why he is here?" She asked Louis, pointing at Blake Vector standing near me in exactly the same position as I was. We both had our arms crossed backed to our chest and an irritated expression pinned on our faces. I was irked because my billion dollar joke was curled up like a piece of paper and trashed, while he was mad because he still believed that we excluded him from some inside joke, Poor boy.
God bless him.
"Well-" Blake moved forward, "-I was going Rockville-"
"Well isn't this Rockville?" I interrupted him. Louis gave me a look which clearly implied that I should not open my mouth just to say something really stupid.
"Actually, no." Blake said with a smile. "We are way past that." My jaw dropped to the ground and I smacked the back of my hand into my brother's chest for kidnapping me and driving this far from home.
"Damn you, Evans!" Louis cried in pain.
"You earned it for yourself, Evans." I smirked.
"So, yeah-" Blake began again, "I am new to the town. I had gone to visit a cousin of mine and on the way back I found Louis struggling with his car. I offered help and since your car's gone, you guys have got to bear with me a little longer." He pursed his lips.
I stared at him for a few seconds.
"Bear with you? What are you talking about?" Eleanor replied in a unbearably high pitch. "We'd love to have an extraordinarily funny and charming guy like you, pretty boy!" Blake's cheeks got covered with a light pink color because of the shower of adjectives El bestowed over him.
"You realized you used exactly three adjectives?" Louis asked her blankly. Exactly my point.
"Oh yeah, does that sound like a crime?" El arched an eyebrow.
"No." My brother spat.
"Well then." El replied snappily. The annoyed expression on my brother's face didn't go unnoticed by me.
The two shared a moment. The tension between them had gone so dense that it could be cut with a knife. El looked at him for a while, fiercely.
"What was that?"Blake's voice almost made me jump on my spot.
"I don't know what it was but it was intense." I replied blankly.
"Intense, sure." He agreed.
"Hey, déjà vu hit me hard this time." I said turning back at him with a small laugh. We had this kind of conversation before, at the park. The only difference is that we had been talking about my life that time.
"Hmmm..." He said thoughtfully, "Anyway, there's definitely something cooking between these two."
I let out a nervous chuckle. "It's more than just 'something', Blakey boy."
"Aye! Aye! Captain, Evans!" Blake said with a smile. "On the contrary, don't you think it's way too early for you to give me nicknames?" He funnily wiggled his eyebrows.
I looked at him in shock and mouthed a 'really'. "I thought we were friends."
"I don't remember that happening, Charlotte." He teased.
Well, he's right. Even though if I'd sum up the total time I've talked to him including all our meetings, it would be less than thirty minutes. So, no matter how good of a person he may seem, he's not a friend. I really have this bad habit of establishing something with people way too early which, in fact, makes me looks like a complete creep.
However, his words hit me hard.....or my ego.
Damn it; Char you just made a fool of yourself.
"Yeah right!" I exclaimed with a completely annoyed expression plastered on my face.
"Ahem." I heard my brother clear his throat. I guessed he had been observing us for a while now. My gaze flickered to my brother. "We should leave, I guess." Louis said. I immediately nodded and shot a death glare towards Blake, following Louis as he left. El caught up soon after.
"Hey Charlotte-" I heard Blake from behind. "I was joking. I'd love to be your friend." I heard him saying as he followed us. "Char-"
I immediately shot my head towards me. "Don't call me that, not-a-friend. That's strictly for family and friends only." I laid a special emphasis on the word 'friends'. He laughed it off. He ran a little, catching my pace and then slowed down, putting his hands inside the pockets of his jeans. "I really had no intensions of annoying you off like that or for that matter make you look like a fool."
I took a moment to look at him and mouth a 'w-h-at-e-v-e-r'.
We all stopped walking as we reached the roadside, beside a silver car, which was in much better condition than ours. It had a silver logo depicting an inverted bird and all I know about the brand of the car is the fact that its advertisement features a handsome guy, that's it. I'm way too bad at this.
"My car, at your service." Blake bowed, opening the back door for Eleanor.
"Thank you so much, Blake. You don't know you're a life saver." she said gratefully.
"Yeah man-" My brother spoke. "Thanks for help. We're an hour late already. Thank you so much."
"It's no big deal, Louis. I was looking for an adventure anyway." Blake said.
Without uttering a word out of my mouth, I quietly opened the door of the car and sat inside, near the window. Blake sat on the driver's seat with Louis on the passenger's.
The rest of the ride was pretty cool. I had my earphones stuffed in my ears because I didn't feel like talking. Sometimes looking out of the window, travelling, with your favorite music on seems just like perfect. Louis, Eleanor and Bake seemed to be pretty engaged in their conversation. I peeped out of the window and stared at nothing specific, not knowing when my eyes grew heavier and I drowned into darkness.
***
I opened my eyes gently. I realized I wasn't in the familiar setting of my room; rather it seemed like a car.
Yep, definitely.. It's a car. Blake's.
The events from today started hitting my brain. I rubbed my eyes and found no one in with me.
"Hey, you're awake!" Blake's voice almost made me jump on my seat. My eyes traveled towards him, who was now seated on the passenger's seat.
"Hey, what are you doing here!?" I enquired.
"Yeah, Charlotte, what am I doing in my own car?" he replied sarcastically.
"Where is Louis? Eleanor?" I scowled and then looked out of the window. "Oh my gosh, where are we?"
I snapped my fingers over the handle of the car, trying my best to get out. I gaped at Blake who was also looking at me with a confused look.
"Hold on." He said hastily and got out of the car from his side and walked towards my side. He pulled the handle, opening the door for me. I didn't waste even a second before jumping out.
I looked at the unfamiliar yet crowded setting. My eyes followed up a board that read 'Ohesa Airport'.
Whaaaaaat?
We don't have an airport in my town so it's like the nearest from my house, like two hours away.
"What the hell are we doing at a freaking airport, Blake Scalar!" I spoke slowly but with my teeth gritted.
"It's Vector." He corrected and I rolled my eyes. "And I don't know why we are here. Ask your brother once he comes back." He replied politely. "Anyway, do you have a thing for getting names wrong?"
A better reply almost rolled off my lips before his words registered my head.
Do you, by any chance, have a thing for ruining my last name, Evans?
It almost felt like I heard Finn say those words back to me. He used to say that a lot. A lot, lot.
And it was our thing, Finn Barconn's and Charlotte Evans's.
"Chill, I was joking." Blake said. "You stay here. I'll go and look for Louis." He said before leaving in some random direction.
I wanted to tell him that I'd be joining him but I was way too engrossed in my thoughts to say so. I felt my heart beat racing. I relaxed my back against the cold metal of the hood of the car. Here I go again.
I did this again and it's for the second time today.
I never thought the absence of a single person from my life would shake me so bad. My mind further drowned in the old memories. I didn't want to reminisce any of them. Those memories just brought out all the bad things I did.
I am sorry, Finn. Three months and I'm still not over you.
Reflexively, my hands traced the bump caused by my phone inside my jean pocket. Before I could think of doing anything-
"Work, work, work, work, work, work
He said me haffi-"
My phone started ringing, filling my ears with music. I didn't even have to check who it was. No doubt, it was Rihanna, or Anna, as she likes to call herself. I have personalized this song for her contact, as per Finn's suggestion. That's the exact song he sang when we went to work at their place.
"-Work, work, work, work, work, work
He see me do mi
Dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt-" taking it out of my pocket I received the call, bringing the phone near to my ear.
"Hey"
"Hi Char! How are you?" Anna sounded excited.
"I'm good. What about you?"
"I-I am fine." She hesitated before replying.
"Are you lying?" I questioned.
"Why would I be lying?" She replied almost abruptly. "I hope you're not busy."
I opened the door of the car and stepped out, looking for the three morons who just left. "No, nothing can be more important to me than you at the moment, Anna." I replied with a smile.
I imagined her smiling back from the other side of the phone. "I have a favor to ask. You know I have work today and it wasn't planed. It was supposed to be a day off. You know, how we are coping up since-" she paused a little to think about Kevin's dad.
He's one of a grasshole. That man had a nerve of abandoning his family for the sake of a woman in New York. I don't know how they do it. Anna has been terrible since then. They had shifted here a few months ago, a couple of days prior to the day we met Kevin at the park. My Kev doesn't even know the half truth. Anna's been working way too much for her own goodness. She doesn't have time for herself plus, she's got absolutely zero support from their kin.
"I know, Anna, I know. You don't have to bring up that rotten egg ever again." I cut her off. I heard her chuckle at the choice of my words. "So what can I do for you?"
"Yeah-" she said. "Can you keep Kev with you at your place till the time I get back?" she asked nervously.
I mentally cursed my brother for pushing me into this situation. I wasn't at home. "Anna, I'm not at home-"
"Oh, that's fine, Char. Trust me it is-"
"Hold up, Anna!" I said, "You can leave him with mom, I'll make sure to text her. She loves the kid so it won't be problem. I'm with Louis at the airport for god knows what. However, I expect us to be back within a couple of hours. So, I'll be with him."
"But, Charlotte-"
"No, that's it Anna. We're done here. You are bringing Kev to our place. Is that okay?" I questioned her.
"Works fine by me, Mom!!!" I heard Kevin's fainted voice over the phone and laughed.
"Kev, you can have Carbon all by yourself till the time I come back-" Kevin really loves my dog. He loves any dog. For a five year old, he's not afraid of animals. "-and for the last time stop calling me that." I told him over the phone, hoping he'd be listening.
"Okayyyyy Mom!" He replied, as I chuckled once again.
"Sorry to trouble you, Charlotte. It means a lot. Thank you so-" Anna began thanking me and it wasn't even required.
"Don't mention that ever again." I replied with a smile.
****
By the look on Louis's face, I figured out that he was beyond angry. He was constantly complaining about his plan flopping while my dear El was dying to console him. I could tell it by the look on her face but she didn't even dare to move an inch towards Louis.
"We missed the flight!" Louis said with a lot many colorful words that I preferred to ignore.
"Call him then!" Blake suggested.
"Not working." Eleanor replied, cutting me off completely from the conversation.
I crossed my arms to my chest. "Would anyone tell me what's wrong with, you all?" I demanded a reply.
My brother groaned in frustration. He was yelling in a few moments, almost pulling his air, "My every fucking plan fails every fu-" I looked at him, his expressions were stonned. Cat caught his tongue.
"Thank god." I said, "You should shut up more often." I said but his dark blue eyes were glued on someone.
"Charlotte-" Blake wanted to say something but I cut him off.
"What made that dirty little mouth of yours quite?" I asked turning, to face whatever my brother was gawking at in horror and surprise with his mouth open.
Well, my jaw dropped onto the floor as well and my eyes almost popped out of my sockets as I traced the figure standing behind me with a warning looking in his eyes which immediately softened when met mine.
No, No, No! Am I dreaming?
I opened my mouth to say something but I could be barely heard. "Holy cow! Is that you, gang leader?"
A/N
