22. Who Let You In
[CHARLOTTE'S POV]
I was standing between the two open doors of my wardrobe, with my face towards my shirts that hung on an iron rod fixed inside. While tapping my fingers on its wooden board, I felt lost. With my mind swimming somewhere in the ocean of nervousness, I ended up having a mental debate about whether I had made the right choice by agreeing to Blake's offer or not, when out of nowhere my eyes fell on the smiling figure leaning against the wall.
"Hello, mate."
I gasped, jumping back. My heart nearly stopped. I was betting on having a stroke or two, considering my heartbeat rolled off like drums, hammering erratically beneath my chest, while, my eyeballs grew almost as big as golf balls in pure astonishment.
My blood was hot, I could feel it. I felt it rushing to my ears as well.
He smiled goofily, bringing the abnormal thumping of my heart to a halt. I could study the crinkles by his eyes growing prominent along with the huge smile that hovered on his lips.
He was amused, by the look that possessed my face as my gaze registered his presence in their vicinity. And it felt as if, just by watching the corners of his lips lifting upwards, a heavy, unsettling weight was lifted off my chest as well.
"WHAT THE HELL WALK-"
"Shhh!" His eyes widened as he stepped forward and hushed to keep me from shrieking, placing his warm hand over my lips.
He lept on like a lion just for the sake of shutting me up. The sudden contact that my body made with his, resulted in making me jolt backwards, searching for a back support as the tip of his shoes touched the bare tips of my toes.
With my back pressed against the closet, and having him standing so close with our bodies brushing against each other, I stole a good long look of his blue irises with tiny, uneven streaks of green that blew energy and electricity within them.
I could already feel my heartbeat stabilising, as if someone was as though he lulled me.
But why?
"Oh, where are my manners?" He exclaimed, pouting, which made him look silly. Studying my expressions for another second, he took a few steps back, re establishing a considerable gap between the two of us. Maybe, he read my expressions wrong because I centernly missed being in his proximity.
I pushed a lose strand of hair behind my ear and looked away. There was no way I could hide my nervousness.
"Pardon me." He realised it as well. I could tell by the way he was scratching the back of his neck. It was something that he often did to express his anxiety.
"That was no way to behave."
I have him a look. A look that conveyed my confusion.
"I mean, that-um... I shouldn't have barged into your room like that. There's a thing called privacy... Which I definitely forgot about. I invaded your privacy and perhaps it's invasion of privacy. You could be doing anything... Like, oh my god, that's not what I meant-"
I was staring at him with a blank look plastered on my face, waiting for him to stop.
"Sorry, the words just escalated."
His constant apologies were adding more to my confusion. But, I needed to stop myself from uttering a single word of my mouth!
It had been hardly three minutes since he stepped in the room and he'd apologised over three times.
"I am saying this over and over again because I genuinely blame myself for everything.... Uh no, not everything but yeah, around seventy five point six percent bad things I've done to you. And I swear I'd do anything to make sure I don't let any opportunity of you forgiving me, slip away. " He shrugged.
How did he know what I was thinking?
"Ah, come on, love, what do you think of me?" he said slapping his hands over the pockets of his jeans and mockingly rolling his eyes. "I can read literally everything through you eyes."
My brows knitted together in confusion.
Eyes?
"Yes.... If you didn't notice, Finn Alex Walker has successfully mastered the art of reading eyes! No excitement? Hurray? Congrats?"
"What are you doing here, Finn? I'm already late," I said walking out of my room, making sure to shut it as Finn followed me downstairs. "I have a date to go to-"
"I know." He said, pacing up to catch me and then, finally blocking my way to bring us both to a halt.
"Who let you in anyway? Mom's not home." I said folding my arms to my chest and looking away.
"Louis did." Experts say a third attack is lethal. If I really had to strokes back there in room as I mentioned, I would've died on the spot with the third one as Finn told me about Louis letting him in.
"Why don't you ask him, though. You know? Just for the sake of your mental satisfaction."
"LOUIS!" I yelled. "LOUIS!"
"FOR GOD'S SAKE, WOMAN. BARK!" he yelled back. However, his voice was faint.
"Where are you?"
"WASHROOM!"
"Why?" I mentally slapped myself for even asking. Technically I asked him why he had let the guy in.
"OH NOTHING, YOU KNOW JUST THE USUAL, ESCAPING TO THE OUTER SPACE THAT'S WHY!" He snapped making Finn cough. He was trying so hard to stop himself from laughing.
"No, that's not what I meant." I said walking towards the washroom and leaning against the door.
"Why did you let Walker in?" I said as if Finn wasn't in front of me.
"Because I want him too!"
"Aren't you two like.... enemies?"
"No, we are taking it well. He's a nice guy. You might as well date him. Now, let me poop!"
I sighed.
What was with these two?
"Why are you here?" I asked, turning towards the six foot something guy sfa ding in from of me. "See, if you're done apologising, I have to go-"
"That's what I'm here for." He smiled cheekily. Screw the butterfly effect. "I'm here to pick you up for the date."
What now?
"Oh, so he's the guy?"
I facepalmed myself hypothetically for the second time, as I saw my dad approaching us. Finn was about to turn to face him when, dad smacked his back, making him wince all of a sudden.
I grimaced.
Did my dad just pat Finn Walker? The cranky Finn Walker?
Wonderful! he'll definately get back at me for this one.
"No dad! Thats-"
"What's your name, kid?" Finn turtned towards my dad just as he addressed him. And I swear, all the colours drained down dad's face.
"Hello, Mr. Evans. Its nice to meet you." He said with a smirk. "Again." His sudden addition took me off gaurd.
"You-" I wasn't sure if dad was questioning him or himself. "I remember that face..... Alex Walker?"
"Finn" He corrected. I was so shocked at the scene those two created before my eyes.
What the he'll was happening?
"Olivia's son?" Dad said. "I remember you! You were six.... Oh god, you made it?"
What the hell was it now?
"Seems like I did." Finn chuckled.
"However I'm not a fan of Arthur."
"Dad!" I exclaimed.
"Neither am I." Finn replied.
"Would any of you like to explain what we are discussing?" I said cutting off their eye contact.
"Well, you and him apperantly went to the same primary school."
I nodded. I was aware of it.
"And seemed like he liked you." I was aware of this fact as well. "And thus, he approached me."
"WHAT?"
"Perhaps I did." Finn said. He was not even trying to hide his embarrassment. "And I told him that I like his daughter who didn't like me at all. But in my defense, I was just a little boy! I didn't know what I was saying."
"He asked me to help him. Multiple times." Dad chuckled. "Oh boy, I can't ever forget that face. He was so tiny."
I snapped my head to face Finn. His ears were tainted pink while his head was low.
Why was he blushing, now?
"And do you know what I told him?"
"Talk to me about it when you at least reach my height, kid." The boy with blue eyes completed it for my father.
I never knew that!
Oh my god. That was too much.
"Guess it's time." Dad said. "Even better, he's inches taller than me now."
"I-We... Dad, I'm not going out with him, alright?"
"You're not? Oh."
"I'm her chauffeur for the day, Mr. Evans." Finn stated proudly.
"Too bad. I thought you two were going out today. But I tell you what, Finn, you're a handsome chauffer." Dad chuckled.
"Thank you, sir."
"Dad, I'm going out With Blake and not him." I eyed Finn, who looked down. "Won't you scold me or something? Or... Maybe ask me to not go? Anything like that?"
"Nah..." Dad was all calm. "I'm actually happy that you're hanging out with friends and all. You rarely leave your bed. Its not appropriate, you know? Sleeping throughout the day-"
"Got it, dad!" Now it was my turn to get embarrassed.
"But who is this Blake?"
I rolled my eyes. "Dad, he's a friend of mine. You've met him."
"Have I?"
"The airport guy?"
"Ah," He said, realisation conquering his expressions, "The Uber driver?"
"Yes dad." I said in a low voice, glancing at Finn. "Uber driver, is it."
I saw Finn turning his back towards me, with his shoulders shaking and ears lifted up.
"What are you laughing at, Walker?"
"I'm not laughing!"
"Sure, you aren't! "
"I'm not even facing you. How do you know?"
I know because I observed his ears rising up. That was his give. I had observed it long ago.
"I'm not talking to you anyway."
"Oh" My father said, "What's the matter? You guys aren't talking?"
Finn immediately turned towards my father, who watched us in amusement.
"Mr. Evans, you didn't help the six year old Finn but you'd have to do it for me, now."
Confusion embrased my father in form of his furrowed brows.
"Char has been avoiding me like plague and.....and... I'm knackered."
I snapped my head.
"And you're complaining?" Dad questioned.
"Actually no." Finn gave in a small smile. "Tired? yes, but I deserve all of the silent treatment."
Dad's eyes widened.
"Your daughter and I have been sworn enemies throughout the high-school." I wanted to smack his face. What the hell was he thinking?
"And, I have not been kind to her as well. I used to pick fights with her, pull her in all sorts of trouble. But that was not it-"
"Why are you discussing this with my father?" The irritation in my voice demanded.
"Why? You think you can talk to my dad but I'm forbided to talk to yours? Unfair, innit?"
So... Arthur told him about he little conversation I had with him last week when I came to visit Finn?
"That's not it, kid. Go on. I'm actually interested in this story." I there my dad a deadly glare who just ignored it.
"Okay, sir." He smiled in response. "In the past few months, we both have done something incredibly wrong to harm each other. But that's no excuse to what I did-" he gulped. "I lied. I made her believe in something that was never real just for the sake of mockery!"
"And you believe that I'd help you out? I don't even know what you did to my daughter! If she's not even looking at you, there might be a fair reason as well!"
"I know..." Finn begins quietly. "Most of the things she does are rational. I totally get that but it also doesn't change the fact that despite what I did, she still saw good in me. She made me see the good in me and call it being selfish, but I can't let go of a person like that from my life! And for that, I'm sorry."
"If only sorry mended hearts." Dad looked at me with a worry before placing a hand over his shoulders. "You need to stop trying, kid."
"That's it. I'm not a kid anymore, sir. I am all grown up and I know how stupid is it to push back someone who cares about you or hurt someone you care about. I just need a chance to work upon our friendship. Its true that a sorry can't mend what's already broken but it can surely save something from breaking."
I was quite and so were the other two people around me. I didn't even know why I was resenting him so much when deep down, I wanted make up for all time we had lost. I wanted us to start again, as friends, but not at the cost of losing all the value I had for myself.
I couldn't have been running after him forever?
"Char-"
"Dad-" I inturrupterd. "Please, I don't want to talk about this."
"But, you should give him a chance, you know. He doesn't sound like a bad guy."
"Oh you don't know."
"It's okay, I deserved that, Mr. Evans" Finn said in a heavy voice. "-I'm not going to stop trying, alright? She can always talk to me about that if not now." He gives me a smile that makes me want to smack myself for not believing him. "We need to leave. Blakey boy might get anxious."
Without I could question him any further, he gently gripped my wrist with his long, cool fingers and dragged me outside the house.
"Bye, Mr. Evans! See ya!"
*****
Sitting beside him on the passenger's seat reminded me of the very first time I was with him in a car, which was the previous year during the carnival, when Jaxon Hayes pretended to play the cupid and deliberately made us sit on the front seat.
To be honest, it was one of the best memories of the old Finn I had with me. Sure, he had much leser brain back then, but he was much carefree. It was kind of funny that I missed someone who was sitting right beside me.
But at that particular moment, my mind was overpowered by a question. Why was he taking me?
While shifting the gear, his eyes coincidentally met mine. It was then I realised that I had been staring at me.
"There's no need to fret, love. I know what you're thinking."
He does?
"You must be wondering why I am driving you instead of Blake, right? His cousin, got into an accident while returning back from the University. Its nothing serious, though. Blake would reach the venue on time."
Why was Finn Walker doing this? Was he upto something?
"I'm not going to sabotage your date, love. Well, not until you want us to run away." He chuckled. "Anyway, why are you so obvious?"
"What do you mean?"
"Ah, there... She talks." His eyes were glued on the road. "It's obvious to read your expressions. That's what I meant."
"Yeah right, you've mastered the art of reading eyes?" I said sarcastically.
"Yep." The word reflected confidence. "You can't lie to me now.
"Reading eyes? " I snorted. "What does that even mean?"
"It means, that eyes speak too."
"They have a language?"
"Indeed they do."
I fell silent but I couldn't contain the words within me so I spoke, "You are high, aren't you?"
He looked at for a second before erupting into a laugh.
Oh Lord, I hadn't heard that one in ages.
"No, seriously.... You have smoked something and here you are, high?"
The sound of his chuckle fainted. "You really had to step on my sincere attempts to flirt, hadn't you?"
It felt as if my skin turned extra sensitive to the cool air the car's air conditioner threw at us, as I registered his words. I could feel tiny bumps rising on my skin, making me shudder.
"Oh..." I said folding my arms to my chest. "That's all you had in the stalk to throw my way before you drew out your white flags?"
"You really know how to bruise a guy's ego."
"Can't help it if Finn Walker's ego is too sensitive to be bruised like that."
"But..." He put forward his argument. "Eyes do speak."
I snorted. "You're crazy. What's next? Nose? Hands?"
"Viola!" he exclaimed. "Now you're talking. Give me your hand."
"What-"
He looked at me hurriedly before turning his eyes to the road. I'm no time I felt his free hand grabbing mine, flushing me with warmth.
"When I feel my skin against yours, I feel something. You know the feeling you get after you return from a long exhausting trip, fall back on your bed and close your eyes? That kind of feeling." I started at him in shock. I felt a pit at the bottom of my stomach, growing. I don't know what this feeling was but it was awesome.
"Every touch holds a message a person wants to convey." He continued softly. "This moment with you, is my respite. You are my respite and I'm not going to let you go this time."
"Why are you even helping Blake and I?" The words left my mouth before I could even hold them back.
He gave me a small grin. "Because, you are my friend and I would do anything that makes you happy."
I never realised when he had withdrawn his hand from mine until I found the car parked outside a CD rental store.
"Don't worry, love. Its not where we're headed to. I just need to pick a few movies Jax ordered. Him, Kev and I- us lads are having a movie night tonight."
That sounded more fun to me, to be honest.
"You stay here, alright?"
I nodded and watched him shutting the door.
"Oh" he muttured. "My phone's on charging in here. Please receive it for me if it's from home or Jax."
I waited in the car for a few minutes. My thoughts still wandered off to Finn's face.
What had happened to him out of nowhere?
He sounded pretty genuine. In fact, I had been a total brat. It had been two days since he first apologised to me.
Maybe I should forgive him after all.
But honestly speaking, I liked troubling him. He looked kind of nice in that whole good guy avatar. He stood up for me im front of Anastasia. Told me things that messed up with my heart and brain- both at the same time.
Plus, he made an awesome sidekick.
And... I couldn't afford to lose him all over gain after all.
Just when I thought I made up my mind, his phone rang.
Arthur.
The screen read.
I rolled my eyes. Seriously? That was his father..... why did he have to be so formal?
I decided to not take the call.
Arthur was intimidating. I was low-key scared of him.
Finn, on the other hand, was taking too long and his phone had already recieved three missed cas from his dad.
I should've picked it up. He gave me the permission to recieve it for him. It was not like I was intruding. There could be something important back at home.
"Hel-"
"Uh, Finn? You picked up, great. Now listen, I've found the folders you were asking for. I've handed the soft copy to Clarke. Make sure you get those. Jaxon and Kevin are already here, waiting for you and don't fret, I would leave in no time."
"It's not Finn, Mr. Walker."
"Uh, who's it then? Wait, Charlotte?"
He sounded surprised. However, I should've been the one who got surprised. How did he even recognise my voice so quick?
"Yes, it's me, Mr. Walker. I'm sorry, I had to get the phone on Finn's behalf. He's busy." I said eyeing the CD store.
"No worries. So... You guys friends again?"
I paused before replacing the frowm on my face with a small smile. "Yes. But just don't tell him that. I'd like to tease him a little longer."
Arthur gaffawed. It was something I could never imagine him doing. "That's alright. I'd make sure not a word slips out of my mouth. Its not like we talk, anyway."
I frowned. "You don't?" I immediately bit my tongue. Why did I have to say that?
"Supposedly not. It doesn't matter."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Walker. I should not have asked."
"It's okay." He reassured calmly. "My son's too moody. You must be aware. Apparently, he's having an all guys movie night. Its something he never did before. Its so... Normal. I'm happy for him. I wouldn't want to disturb him."
"Yeah, he told me about that. You should join them."
"Me?" He asked. "Finn would run away." I could sense he was trying to joke around. "I agree, he talked to me about some things in the past but he's... You know, not really fond of me. Anyway, could you just please inform him about the softcopy? I have to leave before he comes."
Before I could respond he hung up. I felt bad for him. No matter what kind of person Arthur was, he loved his son and for that, he should be loved back.
I saw Finn approaching the car from the periphery. He smiled as he spotted me. In no time, he was inside the car.
"Who do you consider as your family, Finn?"
"Why? Are you planning on join the Walkers, love? Not that I am complaining." A smirk replaced his grin.
I rolled my eyes. "As your sister?"
"Nah, even better.... How about Mrs Walker?"
I gaped at him in horror. He was one shameless creature when he wanted to be.
"Just kidding. There's no need to make that face." He chuckled, pulling in the ignition. "Family you ask? Its me and d-Arthur."
"You can call him that, you know? Dad?"
He rolled his eyes.
"A person who doesn't respect the people who brought him to life, can't respect any other human being."
He fell quiet.
"I don't want to talk-"
"Why? Do you know Arthur there, is leaving his house so that you don't get uncomfortable having your friends and him under the same roof?"
"Char, we're in a better place now."
"He's your dad."
"I wouldn't have guessed"
"Finn"
"Char." He groaned.
"You don't have a single person to call your family, Finn and say it's going well?"
"I have, Dave."
"He's kidnapped." I deadpanned, immediately regretting the words. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that."
"I know." He said calmly. "I have Jax too. I have you."
"I'm not talking to you."
"Don't do this to me please." He begged. Pain splattered across his face.
We fell quite. The silence was defeating, almost painful.
"I forgive you." I said in a low voice.
"What?" I could sense the smile in voice as he pulled the brakes, parking the car to the side.
"I forgive you, Finn" I repeated. "I forgive you if you give your dad a chance."
"What are you saying-"
"I mean it." I said sternly. "I am not forcing you to do anything."
"Sure, because you're technically blackmailing me! " I narrowed my eyes at him. "-or may be not." he added silently.
"If I deserve a chance after whatever I did you to you, so do you and so does Arthur!"
"You're siding with my dad? That's bloody awful!"
"You think I care?" I arched an eyebrow, "Arthur told me that anybody who cares for his son is a friend of his! I know you don't need a babysitter but you can't go on sulking all alone every damned time! Do you think I care about anything except for you at the moment?"
"You look pretty scary." He remarked. "I'll take it as a no."
"Finn, I care about you, and so does Arthur. So, what do you say?"
"About what?" He asked blankly, making me grit my teeth. "Oh-yes! Um... I will ask Arth- my dad to join us for the movies today."
"That's like a good boy." I smiled, leaning sideways with my hands reaching his hair, ruffling them. He put up quite a fight, preventing me from messing them up, making me laugh even more.
"That's my hair, Lady!"
"Big boy ain't got no chill?" I fake gasped. "When did I call them mine?"
"You're lame."
"Not more than you, mate." I mocked.
"Wait, does that makes us friends?"
He asked with his thinking caps on. His blue eyes looked sparkly in amusement of the realisation, however, far less sparkly than half-naked Edward Cullen under the sun.
"Yes, dumbass."
"Yes, dumbass." He mocked in a stupid high-pitched shriek. I rolled my eyes and smacked the back of his head.
He was a big idiot.
But now, the same idiot was my friend.
I couldn't stop the warmth and happiness from embracing me.
A/N
Hi everyone!
Here's a new chapter. I don't think I have ever written so much of Finn and Char in one chapter where they aren't fighting lmao.
Here are some questions.
1. What was the best part of the Chapter?
2. What do you think of Louis's sudden change of heart?
3. Who all loved it when Mr Evans came?
4. Do you think Char should've forgiven Finn long ago?
5. Do you think Char is being nosey? With trying to patch up Finn and Arthur?
6. Y'all loving the new Finn?
7. Who's excited for Blake and Char's date?
If you hated the chapter.... Please let it go this time. My writing place changed and it impacted me a lot ://
