Chapter 4
"Mom!" Fallon quickly fell into her mother's arms with tears falling, her mom had already looked like she had cried for many hours. "I'm sorry- I fucked up and- Mom, it's my fault."
"Fallon, this isn't what I meant when I said you should talk to boys," Her mother chuckled as she tried to cope with the reality, what happened just a few hours ago had changed everything between them. "I don't want to let you go, I never want you to leave my side but I heard you were in danger."
"I should've listened to you, I was wrong for letting you take care of me like I was some sort of baby!" Fallon's solemn words turned into anger. "I was stupid for letting you treat me this way, it's my fault Mom!"
"I should've never let you walk to the bus stop," Her mother shot her a weak smile as her hand traveled to Fallon's cheek. "It's not your fault, I packed some of your things and I even packed your birthday cake. Finish it okay?"
"No, Mom-" Fallon felt her heart being ripped out as her mom leaned away and there was a loud noise coming from the front door.
"They're here, fuck!" Lloyd cursed as he pulled a gun out from his pocket, Fallon's eyes widened at it like it was a bomb. She's never seen a gun up that close, so this was real. Everything was real and it wasn't some nightmare she had, shots were coming from outside
"Fallon, not to rush you or anything but I do need you back in the car." Chris nudged her, Fallon kept her eyes on her mom not knowing that glancing at Chris would be the reason she couldn't save her mom.
She turned to him with a glare, "You said I had 10 minutes."
"That was before Lucas came, we have to go now!" He glared at her.
"I'm bringing my mom!" She turned her whole body to face him, it was like this wasn't hitting her as reality. Why was this girl arguing with him? Her life is on the line and she wants to argue now?
"Whatever!" He yelled as the door busted open.
In a matter of seconds, guns were raised, and a bunch of men raided the house as Fallon ducked to the floor from the loud noises. She was beginning to panic again, usually when she did she would feel the warmth of her mother but- wait- what happened to her mother?
Fallon turned back to see her mother on the floor blood pouring out of her mouth, she was still conscious staring back at her daughter with a loving smile. How could she be smiling when she had a bullet in her?
"Oh my god! Mom!" Fallon held her close to her but she didn't even know what to do, what the hell was she supposed to do with all this blood? There's so much blood- why is there so much blood?
"I'll take them, Lloyd you can hold off with the others?" Chris said as he pushed a table to its side to protect them.
"Cameron said he can get her mom," Lloyd nodded as he held his earpiece, in a quick second the boys got into action to get the job done.
Everything Fallon had in this house was now going to be left behind, the dishes and the few things her mom had were being left behind. She didn't have a choice as she was thrown onto Chris's back, all she could do was scream but that quickly died down because of the shots. She was too afraid to fight back anymore, she kept her eyes squeezed shut as Chris ran out of the house and shoved her back into the car. She heard the car move and slowly but surely the gunfire died down, now she lay in the backseat staring at the ceiling of the car. The events replaying in her mind made her feel like she was going crazy, she couldn't move and the dizziness started to set in.
Her mother, the one who protected her for years was shot. For what? For her? Seriously? She could do a million things to try to make up for this but it would never be enough for her, she's the reason her mother got shot. She didn't even notice how bad she was shaking in the car, it was like she had to leave her safe space behind. It was completely demolished as soon as they left, she still had her things that were packed but it wasn't a lot because she thought she had more time. They said she would have more time. She's foolish for thinking she would actually have time, everything bad had happened in just a matter of seconds so why the fuck did she actually believe she had more time?
Chris wanted to look in his rearview mirror to see the poor girl but a part of him knew it wouldn't be a good sight, it killed him to know what she could be going through right now. He had to focus on the road, he had a crew he had to protect and lead. He couldn't put this girl first, so he talked to Lloyd on his earpiece and thankfully he got out safe. All the men on his crew got out safe, he didn't want her mother to be shot- he really thought they had more time. He had tried to get this girl's trust and now it was all shattered just because they didn't have more time, it was all fucked now.
"You need to be better at predicting the time," Chris said into his earpiece.
"I apologize, sir," Myles spoke into his earpiece back at their headquarters, he had studied so hard to be able to be accurate to the logistics and it was still not enough. He had failed his team. "I should've predicted-"
"There's nothing we can do about it now, just tell me the closest highway I can drive on to get back." Chris interrupted and his glare intensified on the road, his knuckles on the wheel grew white.
The rest of the ride home was silent, Chris started to think Fallon was asleep but one glance in the rearview mirror showed her same blank stare at the ceiling. No emotion on her face and no movement, it was hard to tell if she was even breathing.
He didn't know if he should've apologized now or later, he didn't want to bring her back to reality right now seeing how that worked the first time. He knew she needed time but he also wanted to let her know he accepted his mistake. What would be the least selfish thing to do? He had a bad habit of being selfish but to be able to lead he had to change the way he saw things, so what could he do now that would help her cope?
"Lloyd, report on her mother?" Chris swallowed.
"No response... We'll have to bury her in the garden." The reply sounded so emotionless, no feelings attached and it ached him to know it. "We can leave her in Kian and Liam's care, then she can say bye."
"Okay, I'll carry her inside," Chris spoke as he parked in front of his mansion, he quickly unclipped his seatbelt and looked behind him. She was finally asleep, her eyes were closed and he could finally see her breathing patterns. He got out of the car and opened the back door, with a slow pull she was being carried in his arms.
He didn't even look back to see his crew in the other cars, he walked into the mansion with a greeting from his staff on the inside. He continued to ignore everyone as he walked up the long stairs, he stared at her face hoping she didn't wake up. He was honestly worried she'd try to fight him if she woke up, he stared at her freckles and her thin eyebrows. She was blessed to have long eyelashes, and her long hair was beautiful but he knew she'd have to cut it soon. It was hard to be in combat with long hair, it was such an inconvenience.
He finally made it up to an empty room, he already called in to have the maids clean up a nice room for her that was somewhat cozy. There was a fireplace and the curtains draped shut to make sure she could sleep in. He placed her on the bed brushing a few strands away from her face, this was probably the most peace she'd had this whole day.
"Her things weren't so hard to pack, there was barely anything in her room." Lloyd walked in with 3 suitcases. "She's definitely not your typical teenager, her room was so clean."
"Shut it," Chris walked towards him. "You'll wake her up."
"Just saying," Lloyd raised his hands up in defense. "And she's out like a bear, I doubt she'll wake up so soon."
"I don't care, get out." Chris rolled his eyes and pointed to the door.
"I'll get the burial services done then, nice to see you too brother." Lloyd frowned and walked out the door.
Chris locked the door and set up a chair next to the girl's bed, he wanted to be the first one she saw when she woke up. She needed to be supervised after she woke up, she couldn't be trusted at this moment which was pretty ironic to think about. An innocent girl couldn't be trusted while her trust kept getting broken by these men she had fought so hard to ignore.
Before he knew it, Chris was also knocked out in the chair.
