Chapter 24

"I knew I'd find you in here," Fallon walked into the training room to see Chris with his hands wrapped in white cloth. He was next to a punching bag with the mirrors surrounding him, the sweat was slowly rolling down his arms almost hugging his entire body. Even if he was visibly exhausted he continued to beat the bag until his hands turned red, anyone would think he had something on his mind but only his brother could tell that he was practicing normally.

Chris had a lot on his plate and that's why he trained so hard, his lips would quiver every once in a while when he punched the bag. He wasn't afraid of pain, he figured if he got used to physical pain he would be able to manage it better instead of standing in fear. He tried pushing that idea onto his members but they didn't see things the same way he did, he had almost tried pushing that onto Fallon but she was so delicate. In a way, he didn't want to corrupt her soul the way the others were corrupted. It was like he was keeping her soul pure most of the time in this industry and he was terrified of what she would be like when it finally happened.

"Do you need something?" He asked steadying the bag in front of him before turning to her, the sweat trickled down his face and he adjusted the white straps around his knuckles.

Fallon took a step closer and stared at his bruised hands not knowing whether to inspect them or ignore them, she kept staring until he noticed she seemed a bit bothered before extending his hand. "I didn't mean to stare-"

"It doesn't hurt," He replied letting her hold his right hand, she carefully unwrapped the cloth and lightly brushed against the bruising.

"Still, you need it to heal," She frowned dragging him lightly to the mini fridge in the room, she got an ice pack to place on the bruise making Chris look down at her quite fondly.

"Should I switch you to the medic quarters?" He joked almost wincing as she glared at him and took the ice pack away.

She was about to turn around and leave but Chris didn't seem to like that, he had his hand wrapped around her arm almost pulling her into his chest. "Hey, look I'm sorry I was just trying to joke around. You're cute when you care about us."

"Cute? For having basic human decency?" She scoffed crossing her arms. "I forgot you guys seem to lack a lot of it, I almost forgot we were in a gang."

"Well start remembering it, because the second you forget- it could cost you your life." He wrapped another cloth on his fingers. "You never let them know your next move."

"I get it," She hummed nodding slightly as he walked back over to the bag to continue punching it.

"I don't think you do," He punched the bag.

     "How so?" She questioned.

"I brought you here, I had my people train you and I know we just went on a mission-"

"What's this about?" She cut him off and crossed her arms as he punched the bag simultaneously.

"I have just been through enough to know that someone like you could lose their life in an instant," He explained taking a break from punching.

She nodded her head taking in his feedback and bit the inside of her cheek, she hummed softly before heading over to the weapon stations.

"I guess you're right," She tied her hands up with the white cloth Chris had on his hands. "I have more humanity inside of me than all of you combined, that's why I want to learn to be emotionless."

"I think your poker face is great," He snickered holding the bag in front of him. "It's the inside that's gonna fuck you up eventually."

"Then train me how to deal with it," She nodded. "I'm ready."

"No, stop-" He interrupted putting a hand up in front of her before she made her way to the bag.  "You don't get it."

"Then tell me," She frowned. "What don't I get?"

"I don't want you to lose your humanity, we need you to stay the same," He confessed staring into her eyes before feeling his heartbeat increase.

Her eyebrows raised as he quickly avoided eye contact and scratched the back of his head, it was moments like these that made Chris feel weak. He stared at his hands fiddling with the cloth waiting for her to speak but she didn't reply at all, she just stared at him waiting for him to initiate eye contact again.

Fallon breathed in softly before speaking almost in a whisper. "I don't doubt for a second that all the humanity in me will be wiped." She shifted her weight towards her right leg adjusting her straps. "I had a small dream about it- I don't know..."

Now she was struggling to keep eye contact with Chris, he stared at her with his eyes falling to her hands as she was fiddling with her straps. He walked towards her noticing her straps almost falling apart, he looked fondly at her before adjusting them correctly. She didn't speak another word waiting for him to finish adjusting her straps but her silence made him raise an eyebrow at her. "Keep talking." He spoke softly before turning his attention back to her hand.

She blinked at him a few times before relaxing and returning to her thoughts. "Well... I remember in my dreams I had promised myself I'd be a better person. As long as karma exists, my good karma will come back and I can keep my humanity."

"Is that so?" He hummed finally tucking the straps in nicely and holding the bag in front of her. "You believe in your dreams?"

"I'm always in first person when I'm dreaming but sometimes I get a glimpse of what I am in third person- It's weird- Dreams are weird but I felt that feeling in my gut, I swear!" She explained suddenly staring at the bag.

"Punch." He commanded seeing her widen her eyes, without hesitation she hit the bag and with each punch, he fixed her placement and posture.

"I don't think you understand, I feel alive in my dreams and it scares me sometimes, Chris." She punched the bag again but this time with more irritation. "My mind is telling me something but I can't seem to remember it."

Chris placed his hands on her waist fixing her posture again and he could tell she was punching very messy, the point was to fight with the right angles and right stance if emotion got the best of her she wouldn't fight smart.

"You can't keep moving your body like that, you'll lose balance," He nodded at her words, it was weird to bond with someone like this.

With the other boys, he'd usually let Lloyd take care of it or he'd go hard on them. When it came to Fallon he had to target and focus on the areas where she could improve the most, she was stubborn when it came to just fighting so taking the anger out of her could help her in a fight. He knew the anger inside of him helped but with her he had to teach her how to fight with emotion and the mind, to go far but not too far and make a stupid mistake.

"Chris, you haven't said anything to me." She hugged and stopped punching the bag, she blew the few strands of hair out of her face before turning to him. "Tell me something, anything."

"I believe you," He unwrapped the cloth in his hands and threw them on a desk. "If you keep your humanity by the end of the year, I'll let you have more control perhaps."

"Really?" She jumped like a happy puppy before trying to run to the exit. "I'm telling-"

"Nope," He held her arm and whipped her back in front of him. "Training isn't over."

"Come on!" She groaned and stood in front of the bag shaking her wrists to distract from the pain.

"Again," He ordered holding the bag in place for her to hit.

Fallon had deep thoughts erupting in her mind the whole time they practiced, she couldn't understand why Chris didn't call her crazy about her dreams. Like anyone else could tell her she was crazy but she could sense he was avoiding the topic and focused on something else, it made her feel uneasy because she finally felt like she could talk to him about anything (him being her boss and all), but there was still a border he kept up between them that irked her.

Still, there was something about the way he held her in place that excited her... Fallon had only felt a tingling sensation in her stomach whenever she was around him almost like a connection but she still couldn't get through to it. She liked her boss and the other boys, especially Lloyd! She was really starting to get a furry feeling in her chest being at home and hanging out with them even if they didn't invite her to breakfast. She wanted to ask the boys if she could come next time but she also felt embarrassed asking it's not like she felt special enough to go. She wanted to feel included in things and Kian was kind enough to cook her breakfast, so she settled for a small gesture.

The morning with the other boys was quite interesting and it started with a bang, Lloyd didn't know why his blood boiled when he entered Fallon's room to invite her to breakfast. He didn't expect his brother to be in bed with her and he knew they didn't actually do anything, he trusted his brother had more respect than that. However, he didn't know if he was ready to take her side or his side if anything bad happened- He tried to monitor them at times because he only ever trusted her with himself but he saw that Chris changed. It wasn't a big change but he knew that it would only grow more from that point.

He tried to stay calm, his hands formed a fist and his knuckles turned white before he fled down the stairs with the boys. Lloyd held some irritation towards Kian for a few days now, he didn't appreciate the way he spoke to Fallon it really rubbed him the wrong way so he didn't invite Kian to breakfast. Myles tried sorting it out and convincing Lloyd to invite him but Lloyd didn't budge, Fallon was so mesmerizing to him and he didn't like when others disrespected her.

He was confused, to say the least, extremely confused.
