Chapter 16

Lloyd and Fallon sat on her bed with some soft music playing in the background, after the boys got home Lloyd decided to check up on the girl seeing as he was still a bit pissed at his brother. Fallon was always happy to see Lloyd and this time she wanted to make her room look more comfortable for her visitors, she was excited to show him the new things the maids had bought her while they went shopping for supplies. She had a nice canopy above her bed that was white and she got a nice lamp, her new rug was very furry and lay just next to her bed.

"He did apologize, right?" She looked at the boy contently.

"No," He sighed as his eyes drifted onto her canopy. "These look really nice."

She grinned at his compliment, he noticed it, and she almost started focusing on it instead of him. However, she knew deep down he was still hurt after everything and she wanted to make him feel better... but how?

"Tell me more about how you feel," She dismissed the compliment and decided to focus more on Lloyd. "It's okay to talk back to him you know? Stand up for yourself."

"You don't get it," He leaned his head back with a sigh before looking back at her. "He's given so much for me already, if anything I'm in his debt. He's killed for me before and for the other boys as well, he can become really scary when he's mad all my job is to repay him is to do as he says."

"But he's still your brother," Fallon placed her hand on his leg to show her support. "He should be able to admit when he messes up when he's being a little too harsh- don't you think so?"

"Fallon, it's not that easy I don't think you'll truly understand until you know what it's like out there on missions." Lloyd shook his head staring at the hand placement, he didn't feel the need to push her away though oddly he felt comfortable.

"On the missions?" She gulped and retracted her hand slowly, she leaned back on her pillow and kept her hands in her lap looking down.

"Yes, I mean this with the best intentions I don't think you know what you're getting yourself into. This isn't a game and it's probably easier to view missions from afar like Myles but actually being in action is so hard, I know you've trained but I don't think it'll benefit you seeing all the dead people in person." He replied.

"I'm fine, I'll be fine," Fallon shook her head as if she was convincing herself at that very moment. "I trained for this I should be okay."

"I know for a fact you're going to panic," Lloyd ignored her claims he knew her better than herself for some reason. "I can try to help but we need to make sure you don't ruin the mission."

"Wow, am I that much of a fuck up?" Fallon was taken aback by the comment and cocked her head towards the boy, did he seriously think that?

"I didn't mean it like that- Listen- You know I didn't mean it like that," Lloyd grumbled immediately regretting his word choices. "I just mean that, if you have already stated you don't like loud noises and you go on missions with us that have to deal with shots being fired and dead bodies all around I wouldn't want you freezing up and then getting killed because you weren't quick enough."

"I can be, I know I can," She got up from the bed crossed her arms, and paced around the room. "Don't worry about me-"

"I will always worry about you," Lloyd stood before her and placed his hands on her arms. "It's my job and I also care about you, let's hope the first mission goes smoothly."

Fallon looked up at him with concern written all over her eyes, she was starting to worry about how reliable she would be on the missions and she knew if she fucked up she could send one of the boys to their deaths. She found herself repeating three words in her mind: don't fuck up.

"I'm headed to my room, are you going to sleep okay?" Lloyd questioned before he headed out the door.

"I'm okay, goodnight," She smiled softly as he left, she took a peek outside her room to see him enter his room and she quickly tip-toed to Chris's bedroom.

Why was he going to his room? God knows what went through her head but thankfully she knew she wasn't going to scold him she was trying her best to prevent a conflict- Yet something was telling her no- pulling her to talk to that man.

She had her hand already placed on his door as she let it knock softly, she didn't expect him to open the door and maybe she was hoping that he wouldn't open the door- But standing before her was her tall boss with wet hair, he was shirtless but had shorts on. He had a towel sitting on his shoulder and she couldn't help but divert her eyes to his stomach, she hadn't really seen a guy all shirtless like this in front of her eyes but she did enjoy the view.

"Sorry," He turned around quickly and placed a shirt over him, he turned back to her and opened his door a bit wider for her to come in. "I thought you were one of the boys."

"I should've knocked at a better time, it's my fault-" She stood at the door frame waiting for him to invite her inside vocally.

"Don't start with that bullshit, I said sorry first," He turned his back to her and walked to his chair to drop his towel on it. "Aren't you coming in?"

"I think since it's your room I should be asking that," She chuckled nervously before finally taking a step in, his room was beautiful and big but everything was almost black.

"So, what did you need?" He ignored her last statement and pulled up a chair near her before sitting on it.

"Can we talk? Briefly." She asked twirling her fingers in her hands before looking up at him, he stared at her giving her his full attention strangely.

"About what?" He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Do you have another problem?"

"It's not that serious, I promise I'm not trying to tell you what to do," She frowned.

"I'm not going to yell at you," He softened his eyes as he noticed she was struggling to get her words out, he pointed to the chair adjacent to his by the table. "Sit."

"Oh- Yeah," She sat down not liking at all how close she was to her Chris, he was staring right at her and she was beginning to feel intimidated.

She took a deep breath before finally making eye contact with him, he had a very confused but curious look on his face trying to figure the girl out. "I think you should apologize to Lloyd someday."

"What?" He immediately chuckled. "Where is this coming from? Apologize for what?"

"The way you raised your voice at him, you did hurt his feelings and it hasn't been the first time," Fallon squeezed her hands together. "I just think that apologizing sometimes will make not just your brother but the rest of the boys respect you even more."

"And you know this because?" He replied raising his voice a bit.

"I think everyone deserves an apology, it's not something to feel ashamed about- Like everyone makes mistakes and the normal reaction is to apologize," Fallon explained herself more. "It makes the other person feel better most times, if you don't want to you don't have to!"

"Is this all you wanted to tell me?" He buried his head into his hands and brushed his hair out of his face, he turned to her with a stern look that almost frightened the girl.

"You guys are all family, I'm just a new member," She stood up staring at the ground almost spacing out. "You don't have to always take my advice but it doesn't hurt to try something new."

"You're cute," He stood up as well before placing his hand on her head and rubbing it. "Is that seriously all you wanted to tell me?"

The hand placement caught her off guard, she froze as she felt his fingers stroke her hair and it almost felt so comforting if it wasn't for the fact that he was her boss. He had never done this sort of thing to her or even to anyone else because why the hell would he? Why was he acting so weird all of a sudden? Not to mention the compliment that paired along with the action, it was so weird to see him act like that! She was beginning to think that her boss was sick, maybe he took medication and it made him feel a little funny and he didn't realize what he was doing!

"I'll let you sleep," She slowly walked to the doorframe before turning and giving him a soft smile. "Thank you for everything, boss."

To say how disappointed Chris felt was an understatement, he felt like his heart was just ripped out of his chest. She had nothing to say about his actions? He was just trying to show her that he cared about what she said and she just dismissed it easily? Did he make her uncomfortable? The thoughts began to sink in his mind for about ten minutes before he got up from his bed and walked downstairs to get a glass of water.

Great minds think alike because, at the end of the staircase, Lloyd was sitting at the steps just staring off into space.

Chris took that opportunity to sit next to him and it felt like the first time he did this, Chris apologized to his brother.
