Chapter 14
Paul's POV
Drew gave a yell and stumbled back hitting his head on the ground. I was following right after him and barely managed to get out of the way. There was no way I was going to let anyone fall on top of me and get crushed. As soon as he fell down I could see the open doorway and a......figure standing?
Sweat started to run down my forehead because whoever was standing there was swaying creepily on their feet. I tried to think rationally. There was no way something supernatural can arrive here.
No no no this wasn't happening. But then who was she? Yes, I could tell it was the silhouette of a female. Could it be....one of the girls? Must be it! Yes, a revenge! I got it!
"P-Paul, w-who is st-standing there?" Drew managed to stutter out.
I sighed. "Calm down, scaredy cat. Do you really think it can happen what you are thinking is happening?" I asked.
Drew took two deep breaths and calmed down and got up on his feet. The figure standing there had started to come in.
"Who are you? Misty? Leaf? Dawn or is it May?" I asked calmly though my heart was still racing.
The figure didn't say anything but stopped. Then Drew managed to shoot past me and switched on the light. As soon as he switched it on, two simultaneously screeches could be heard and understanding clicked into place. That was Ash and Gary. Those two morons think it's a real ghost. The girls must have planned something though only one part of it worked. These tricks won't scare me though the make up is quite realistic. Must be Dawn...
"May, is that you?" Drew asked.
The figure stood still for a few seconds until true to Drew's words May removed her veil to reveal her face and smiled sheepishly.
"Hehe I guess it wasn't enough to scare you or...atleast one of you." She said, looking triumphantly at Drew and earning a scowl in return.
"What?! I wasn't scared, just a little surprised is all!" Drew hurriedly explained.
"Sure, sure." May said and rolled her eyes. I smirked.
"So, who planned this?" I asked.
"Basically all of us agreed to it together." May said.
I nodded. Atleast it managed to scare the other two specially Gary who was the real culprit and had decided to act bold and eavesdrop.
Drew was explaining to May how it was all Gary's that we were caught eavesdroping when two figures came dashing in and zoomed past May only to stop and scream again. Apparently Gary and Ash hadn't noticed it was May and May, taking this as a good sign put on her veil and smirked at Drew and I.
"W-what?! There's one here too?" Gary exclaimed, obviously scared.
The both of them started talking at once apparently explaining what happened to them and it was hard to understand because they were both talking at once and stuttering on top of that.
"Shut it you two." I exclaimed.
The other "ghost", Leaf had entered by that time and seeing the two figures stuttering, burst out laughing followed by May.
Ash and Gary looked up to both me and Drew, then back at Leaf and Misty and again back at us before leaping up in a standing position and pointing an accusing finger at Leaf. Leaf had already started running off and Gary and Ash started following her. I knew that Leaf would explain the situation and I only hoped it didn't wake any of the teachers.
May turned to us and said, "Sorry Drew and sorry Paul. I didn't know it was Gary's fault. Sorry for waking you up like that and startling you."
"It's alright May. It was fun actually because the dress up looks so real. I had a thrill and this cabbage here definitely was scared so it was worth it I guess." I said.
"Hey!" Drew exclaimed.
I raised an eyebrow. "What? I was only telling the truth. You can't deny that you were scared because you had yelled." I pointed out.
Drew huffed but didn't say anything.
May giggled. "Alright, sorry again Drew. I will have a surprise for you tomorrow. Hope that will make it up to what I did. I gotta go now. You guys please go and sleep. Good night Paul, good night Drew." May said.
"Good night May." We said together before she left and I closed the door.
"Get some sleep moss head. You gotta save your energy for whatever surprise May has in store for you." I said.
Drew blushed. I knew he was excited. I lied down and my mind drifted to the thoughts of a certain blunette. She sure was talented in make up. I wondered if she was actually really interested in fashion designing and wanted it as a career. I decided to ask her later. After that my mind fell into numbness.
Drew's POV
I woke up in the morning to find Paul already in the bathroom cleaning up. It was a holiday so I didn't know why he bothered to get up this early. He worked out each morning, I knew that. I joined in too sometimes. I got up and decided to do some push ups to help my body to wake up properly and while I waited for Paul to come back. While I was doing it my mind wandered to last night. I had really gotten a scare. I don't fancy supernatural beings much. But I focused more on May's parting words. What could she have possibly planned?
Paul arrived at that moment and I went inside. As I showered I thought back to the many feelings I felt whenever I was near her. I was sure I liked her more than a friend and it wasn't just a crush anymore. Obviously I couldn't afford to make it so obvious yet and tried to act normal by teasing her. I sometimes even wondered if my teasings hurt her. I of course didn't want to hurt her. But...I wondered, does she feel the same? I didn't want to ruin out friendship over something like this and make it awkward. I wanted to know if she felt the same. Was she hiding her feelings just like me or was it only just me? I shook my head because I was honestly getting nowhere with these thoughts and decided to focus on the present.
I chose a black turtle neck shirt and black jeans. I remembered when Dawn had once told me that black looked good on me and I valued her advice in fashion. I combed my hear in my classic Drew style which included leaving the bangs falling over my forehead. Paul was watchng me with an amused expression but I decided to ignore him. He got up, took a book and started reading it. I left the bookworm by himself because I knew he would love to have some alone time with his books. May had told me to wait for her outside the dorm building but I decided to pick her up from her dorm. It was finally time when I left the room and knocked on the door she and Dawn shared.
Dawn opened it and smiled at me and I swear I saw a bit of mischief in them.
"Good morning Dawn, is May ready?" I asked.
"Morning Drew, ah yes, May is just coming." Dawn said and skipped inside.
May arrived, her hair in a ponytail with almost no make up. She looked adorable with her natural look. She looked at me and I swear I saw her blush which made me smirk. Without a word I pulled out a thornless rose and stuck it in her hair.
She touched it once, the velvety petals caressing her fingers and smiled up at me. Her sapphire eyes sparkled like gems with her smile. If roses made her happy then I would give her as many as she wanted.
Dawn cleared her throat to which we both looked at her and both of us blushed looking away. She was making a heart sign with her fingers and smiling knowingly and giving me a you-should-tell-her-already look
After leaving Dawn and her shipping thoughts behind I let May lead me to the small forest behind our school. School trip was coming nearer and everyone seemed busy these days planning it. May kept up a constant chatter about yesterday night and how Leaf had come rushing in with Gary and Ash following close behind and how she had a bit of a row with Gary before he had given up. It was a win win situation really. Gary being the perv he was deserved it. Honestly I was looking more at May rather than listening. How she laughed heartily, how her hair bounced with her rhythm of walking and how those gem like sapphire eyes of her sparkled with happiness. I had promised myself that I wouldn't let that smile disappear. Seeing how much trust she put in myself to walk in a forest alone and sharing her hobbies and childhood with me only made me more determined to keep that promise. She walked with ease without a care in the world and seemed to glide through the forest, jumping up and down at the butterflies that came near her and the birds that flew past her. She was excitedly showing the beautiful flowers that had bloomed and I couldn't help but let go of all my worries and enjoy with her. I was surprised at how much at ease I felt with her.
Soon we came to what looked like the beginning of a clearing and May stopped.
"Now Drew, I want you to close your eyes." She said.
I did without an argument because I liked surprises. May held my hand and began to guide me. I tried not to dwell on the fact that how soft her hand was and how it fit perfectly within my own. All too soon she stopped and I opened my eyes. I couldn't believe it. Under a tree, there was a beautiful blanket with a picnic basket. Rose petals were scattered around the blanket and I didn't know that there was a small stream flowing in this forest. The rippling sound was so soothing and overall the place with her picnic arrangements looked picture perfect. I looked at her at a loss of words and May grinned.
"Dawn helped me set it up today early in the morning and I decided to surround our blanket with rose petals and cooked the food myself. I was really worried whether you would like it...."
I cut her off by engulfing her in a hug. She had put in so much thought just for me. I couldn't name all these emotions that were overflowing within me. But one thing I knew was that I was extremely happy. I grabbed her and lifted her up before spinning her around once and she laughed giddily.
I put her down and she wiped her laughter tears, still giggling.
"So..you liked it?" She asked once her laughing was under control.
"Liked it? I loved it May! Thanks a lot, thank you so much!" I exclaimed.
At this point I was probably jumping up and down like a kid but I couldn't care less. I also called her by her name and not some random month name but at this point I honestly couldn't afford to annoy her.
I took her hand and we both rushed towards the tree grateful that I hadn't done breakfast yet. I wanted this to last forever. In the middle of a forest with no one to disturb us, letting go of all worries and enjoying just the both of us. What could be happier? I just hoped that in the future we would be able to do this whenever we want. Right now I was enjoying myself and so was the girl beside me with whom I had apparently fallen in love with.
