Ceecee's first steps

Her little legs wobbled with each step, soft thuds of her tiny feet padding against the floor. A gummy smile stretched across her face as she toddled forward, unsteady but determined. Her arms waved like she was balancing on a tightrope, fingers twitching with effort.

"Come on, sweetheart," I whispered gently, my voice soft and full of awe. "Just one more. You got it."

Ceecee let out a squeaky giggle, her head bobbing with every step. She was focused, like this was the most important mission in the world. Her silky hair bounced slightly with her movement, and her cheeks were pink with excitement. She babbled something that sounded like "Mamamamama!" and made another grabby motion with her hands.

Then—one last teeter.

She tumbled forward, landing right into my open arms with a soft "Oof!"

"I got you!" I laughed, wrapping her up tightly in a hug and rocking her side to side. "You did it! You walked to Mama!"

Ceecee squealed in delight, kicking her feet happily and clapping her hands against my chest. She buried her face in my shoulder for a second, nuzzling close.

The door creaked open behind me.

"Did I miss it?" Gary asked, slightly out of breath, holding a baby bottle in one hand.

I turned with a huge smile. "She walked to me, Gary. She really did it!"

He blinked. "She... walked?"

Ceecee popped her head up from my shoulder at the sound of her dad's voice and held out her arms again, babbling excitedly. "Dada!"

Gary dropped the bottle on the couch without even looking and dropped to his knees. "Come on, princess. Let's see those steps."

I gently set her back down.

She stood, legs shaking a little but more confident now. She looked between the two of us like she couldn't believe how much we were cheering for her.

Then she took one step. Then another.

Gary's face lit up with pride as she walked right into his arms, squealing as he swept her up into the air and kissed her cheek.

"That's my girl!" he beamed.

Ceecee giggled uncontrollably, her chubby hands patting his face.

I sat back and watched them, a hand resting over my heart.

She did it.

Our baby girl was walking.

And this was the moment I'd remember forever.
