Day 16
"Ugh, these adults just don't get it," I muttered to Bulby as we walked out of Brock's gym. " They're always talking about my habits and my health, but they have no idea how hard it is to be Champion at my age!"
"Pika, pika." Pikachu agreed with a determined little nod.
I looked down at her, running a hand through my hair. " I know, Pikachu. You and Bulby are the only ones who really get it."
We made our way back to the street, me still fuming over the meeting. The gym leaders could be so annoying, thinking they know what's best for me. They had no idea the pressure I was under. No one had to go through what I had. I had fought tooth and nail for that Champion title, and now everyone expected me to be perfect? No thanks.
As I turned the corner, I spotted Blue waiting near the entrance to the gym. He was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, looking like he was waiting for someone to finish their tantrum.
" What do you want, Blue?" I asked, not feeling like dealing with him.
" You still mad?" he asked, his voice calm but with a knowing smirk.
" I'm not mad. I'm just... tired." I leaned against a nearby lamppost. " Tired of everyone acting like they know what's best for me. I can handle my own stuff."
Blue raised an eyebrow. " Yeah, I know what you mean. But hey, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here. Even though you're a pain, I get it."
" Oh, really? Now you're the therapist?" I snorted. " You're just saying that so I don't kick your butt in our next battle."
Blue chuckled. " Maybe. But honestly, Mia, don't push yourself too hard. You gotta take a breather sometimes. I know you're strong, but even champions need a break."
I blinked. Was Blue actually... being nice? That was new.
" Uh, thanks," I muttered. " But I'm good. I don't need a break."
" Suit yourself. But don't come crying to me when you burn out." Blue gave me a teasing grin before turning and walking away.
I huffed, watching him disappear around the corner. Was he serious? I didn’t burn out. I was fine. Besides, I had way too much to do to waste time with rest. Being Champion was serious business.
" Saur..." Bulby looked up at me, concern in his eyes.
" Yeah, yeah, I know, Bulby. But I’m fine." I sighed, trying to push the nagging feeling away. " I’m gonna take this Champion thing seriously. I won’t let anyone mess it up."
Pikachu flicked her tail in agreement, but I couldn't help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, Blue had a point. Would I really be okay if I kept pushing myself like this? I shook my head, dismissing the thought.
No time to worry about that right now. The road to being the best was never easy.
