Day 13

Lance’s face was unusually pale as he examined the label on the bottle. "Mia, Modafinil is a stimulant. It's not meant for kids, let alone… this quantity!" His voice rose slightly at the end, betraying his concern.

I tilted my head, confused. "But it helped me stay awake for the battles, didn’t it? What's the big deal?"

Lorelei knelt down in front of me, her voice soft but firm. "Mia, these kinds of medications can be dangerous if taken improperly. How many of these have you had?"

I shrugged and pulled out a small notebook from my bag. "Let’s see… uh… two a day? Sometimes three if I really needed it. So maybe… thirty in two weeks?"

Everyone froze. Gary’s jaw practically hit the floor. "THIRTY?! What were you thinking?!" he yelled, his voice cracking as he pointed an accusing finger at me.

"Uh, I was thinking I didn’t want to lose to a bunch of grown-ups who have magical creatures that can destroy entire buildings? You’re welcome, by the way!"

Bruno started pacing, running a hand through his hair. "Lance, this is bad. We need to call someone. She’s just a kid."

"Kid or not, she’s stubborn as a Machamp," Greta muttered, crossing her arms. "Mia, what else have you been taking? Be honest."

I sighed dramatically. "Fine, but only because everyone’s freaking out." I reached back into my bag and pulled out an assortment of bottles and packets. "Uh… there’s this pink one for headaches, this blue one for energy, these gummies for vitamins, this powder that I think was for ‘focus,’ and… oh, these were delicious."

I held up a box of brightly colored pills.

Lorelei visibly recoiled. "Mia, those are melatonin! You’ve been mixing stimulants and sleep aids?! That’s incredibly dangerous!"

Professor Oak wiped his forehead with a handkerchief, looking as though he might faint. "Dear girl, this isn’t just reckless; it’s life-threatening. Do you have any idea what could have happened to you?!"

"Uh, no? I mean, I feel fine! Look!" I threw my arms out like I was about to perform a cartwheel.

Gary, meanwhile, stormed into the next room, muttering something about "kids these days" and "why me?" while loudly screaming, "SHE’S CRAZY!"

Lance crouched to my level, his tone urgent. "Mia, we’re going to take all of this away, and you’re going to see a doctor. Right now."

"But why?" I asked, genuinely confused. "I don’t feel sick. You guys are the ones acting weird!"

Bruno stopped pacing and glared at me. "Mia, we’re acting ‘weird’ because you’ve been pumping yourself full of random medications! Do you even know what half of this stuff does?"

"No, but Pikachu said they were fine!"

"Pika?!" Pikachu looked up at me with wide, innocent eyes, shaking his head.

Greta sighed and knelt beside me. "Mia, listen. You’re not in trouble, but we’re worried about you. You could’ve seriously hurt yourself."

I blinked at her. "Wait… you guys care about me?"

The room went silent. Everyone exchanged glances.

Lorelei placed a hand on my shoulder. "Of course, we do, Mia. You’re just a kid, and you’re part of this strange, chaotic little family now. We can’t let anything happen to you."

I stared at her, baffled. "But… you’re the Elite Four. Aren’t you supposed to be, like, self-centered and aloof and stuff?"

Bruno laughed despite the situation. "Kid, we’re a lot of things, but self-centered? Not when it comes to someone like you."

Gary stomped back into the room, still fuming. "Okay, I told the nurse to prepare a room for her. She’s not leaving here until someone checks her out!"

"I don’t need a nurse!" I argued. "I’m fine! Look at me—"

Before I could finish, the exhaustion hit me all at once, and I slumped onto the floor, fast asleep.

The room erupted into chaos.

"She passed out!"

"Bruno, call the nurse!"

"Greta, help me carry her!"

"Pikachu, grab that water bottle!"

As I drifted off, I could hear their panicked voices fading into the background. The last thought I had before everything went dark was: Wow, the Elite Four are way crazier than I thought.
