Day 13
Lance held the bottle of Modafinil up, his expression dark and serious. "Mia, this is a prescription medication for people with sleep disorders. It's not something you can just take whenever you feel like it."
I blinked. "But it helped me stay awake for the Elite Four challenge! And I’m fine! See?" I gestured to myself dramatically.
Gary, who had been staring at me like I’d grown a second head, groaned loudly. "Mia, ‘fine’ is not the word I’d use. You’re bouncing off the walls one second, collapsing in the bushes the next, and apparently, you’ve been popping pills like candy."
"I was stressed, okay?" I shot back, crossing my arms. "It’s not like I’ve been doing this forever."
Lorelei knelt in front of me, her voice gentle but firm. "Mia, can you show us what else you’ve been taking? Please?"
I hesitated, glancing between her and Lance, who still looked concerned. With a sigh, I pulled out my bag and started unloading bottle after bottle of medication.
The room went silent as everyone stared at the growing collection on the floor.
"That’s... that’s a lot," Bruno finally said, his usual stoic expression giving way to visible concern.
Lance picked up another bottle and read the label. "Painkillers? Mia, why do you have these?"
I shrugged. "Sometimes battling hurts. You think Dragonite's Hyper Beam is easy to dodge?"
Gary grabbed another bottle and froze. His eyes widened, and he shouted, "YOU’RE TAKING CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS?!"
I rolled my eyes. "Sheesh, Gary, chill out. Since when do you lose your cool? It's just calcium!"
"It’s not just calcium!" he yelled, waving the bottle like it was about to explode. "This stuff isn’t even meant for someone your age!"
Oak, who had been fanning himself in the corner, cleared his throat. "Mia, did you even read the labels on any of these medications?"
I blinked innocently. "Uh... I skimmed them?"
Greta groaned, pacing back and forth. "This is bad. Really bad. You’ve been mixing all these without knowing what they do?"
"Mixing?" I tilted my head. "I mean, yeah, but they’re all good for you, right? Like vitamins!"
Lance ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. "Mia, mixing medications can be incredibly dangerous! You could’ve seriously hurt yourself!"
Lorelei exchanged a worried glance with Lance. "We need to figure out exactly what she’s taken and how much."
Gary, meanwhile, was pacing the room, muttering to himself. "I can’t believe this... Mia’s acting like this is normal! This isn’t normal!"
"Okay, everyone, chill!" I said, throwing my hands up. "Why are you all freaking out? I’m fine! And it’s not like I’m the only one who’s ever done this."
Bruno stopped pacing and looked at me sternly. "Mia, this isn’t about anyone else. It’s about you. We care about you."
I blinked, taken aback. "You... care about me?"
Greta nodded. "Of course we do! You’re part of this team, Mia. We don’t want anything bad to happen to you."
For a moment, I just stared at them, completely stunned. I wasn’t used to people worrying about me like this, especially the Elite Four.
But before I could respond, I pulled out another pill bottle and unscrewed the cap.
Gary snatched it out of my hands. "NOPE! NOT THIS TIME!" He read the label and groaned loudly. "Mia, this is a laxative! WHY ARE YOU TAKING THIS?!"
"Sometimes battling makes my stomach upset!" I defended.
Gary looked like he was about to lose it. "YOU’RE TWO PLUS EIGHT, NOT EIGHTY!"
"Sheesh, Gary," I muttered, crossing my arms. "Since when did you turn into my dad?"
Lance sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Mia, we’re going to have a long talk about proper medication use. And after that, you’re getting a full check-up."
I groaned dramatically. "Ugh, fine! But can we at least agree I defeated Giovanni like a boss?"
Bruno chuckled despite himself. "That, you did, kid. But you’ve got a lot to learn about taking care of yourself."
As the group continued to lecture me, I couldn’t help but grin a little. Sure, they were worried, but for the first time, I realized they really did care about me. Maybe this Elite Four gig wasn’t so bad after all.
