Day 13
Lance stared at the bottle in his hands, his expression grave. He turned it over, reading the label again, as if hoping it would magically change. "Mia, Modafinil is a prescription drug for sleep disorders. It's not something you should just… be taking like candy."
I blinked, still sitting cross-legged on the floor with my bag wide open. "Well, I didn’t know that. It just said it helps people stay awake, and I needed to stay awake. So I took it."
Gary groaned, running a hand down his face. "Mia, how much of this stuff have you taken?"
I tilted my head, thinking. "Uh… maybe two bottles?"
The room went silent. Dead silent.
"Two bottles?" Lorelei finally whispered, her voice trembling with concern. "Mia, that's dangerous! That could seriously harm you!"
Bruno, who had been pacing back and forth, stopped in his tracks and pointed at my bag. "What else is in there?"
I sighed, digging through the bag and pulling out various bottles and packets. "Well, there’s this thing I found at the Poké Mart. And these gummies—they said ‘energy’ on the label! Oh, and this powder—"
Lance’s face paled as he snatched the powder from my hands. "Mia, this is a pre-workout supplement! You’re not supposed to eat this raw!"
I frowned. "But it tasted fine."
Gary looked like he was about to lose his mind. "Mia, you're not supposed to taste it! What is wrong with you?!" He stood up, yelling into the next room, "SHE NEEDS A DOCTOR!"
"Gary, I’m fine," I said, waving him off.
"No, you’re not!" he yelled back, his voice cracking slightly.
Meanwhile, Lorelei and Lance had begun whispering in hushed tones, their eyes darting back to me every few seconds. Greta was still pacing, muttering under her breath about "kids these days," while Bruno had taken up a spot in the corner, rubbing his temples.
Professor Oak, on the other hand, was fanning himself with a clipboard, his expression a mix of shock and disbelief. "Mia, my dear, do you have any idea what you’ve done to your body over the past two weeks?"
I shrugged. "Nope. But I’m still standing, so I guess I’m fine, right?"
"Mia," Lance said, kneeling down in front of me, his tone softer now. "Listen to me. Just because you feel okay doesn’t mean your body is okay. Taking this many stimulants can seriously harm your heart, your brain, and… well, everything."
I looked around at their worried faces, finally starting to feel a little nervous. "Wait… are you all seriously worried about me?"
"Of course we are!" Lorelei said, her voice firm. "Mia, we may be the Elite Four, but that doesn’t mean we don’t care about people. And you… you’re just a kid. You shouldn’t have to deal with this kind of stress alone."
Greta nodded. "She’s right. And if you’re feeling this overwhelmed, you need to talk to someone. Not turn to… whatever this mess is." She gestured at the pile of bottles and packets on the floor.
I blinked, looking down at the pile. "Huh. I guess I never really thought about it like that."
Gary knelt beside me, his expression softer now. "Mia, we care about you. You’re important to us, okay? But you’ve got to stop this. Promise me."
I hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Okay. I promise."
Lance let out a sigh of relief, standing up and placing a hand on my shoulder. "Good. Now, let’s get rid of this stuff and figure out how to help you properly. No more shortcuts, okay?"
"Okay," I said quietly.
As they started gathering up the bottles, I couldn’t help but feel a little surprised. I’d always thought the Elite Four were just tough trainers who didn’t care about anything but battles. But seeing them this worried about me… it was kind of nice.
"Hey," I said, breaking the silence. "Thanks, guys. For, you know… caring."
Lorelei smiled gently. "Of course, Mia. We’re all in this together."
Gary crossed his arms, smirking. "Just don’t scare us like that again, okay?"
I grinned. "No promises."
