6. Mid-term exams here we go!

Authors note--
Guys I probably will update later than usual next time. Please don't kill me. this is a slightly longer chapter so for now, enjoy this chapter and my just published Book of Randomness while I get over the three camps I'm having in the next two weeks and one family reunion =.=
Don't worry, you're all luckier than me.

~~~~~
Karma dislocated his shoulder, broke one rib and his left arm and received a large bruise on his back as he saved me, but otherwise, there wasn't any other serious or threatening injuries. And if that guy has enough energy to annoy me until I want to punch him to death, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Today is his first day back in class, apparently he escaped from the hospital yesterday night on his own convenience too. What a troublesome guy. I glared at him as he walked to his seat, remembering what happened a week ago when I visited him.
-
I knocked, then waited for a reply.
"Come in."
I had pushed open the door, and stepped inside the hospital room. That damned Karma was there, sitting up in the white bed and smirking at me. Despite him being injured and me being the potential cause of his injury, I had barely just confined my irritation towards his arrogant attitude and my will to punch him.
"Can't stay away from me?" He smirked, and moved to sit on the edge of the bed.
"Akabane Karma, I'm warning you."
"Oh, so you think you won't be able to resist the temptation if I come closer?"
"I'm warning you to shut up so I don't punch your face in." I gritted my teeth. Why is he so annoying?! The atmosphere just had to be like this when I came to do something necessary. Thank him. Of course I'm grateful that he saved me from falling off a twenty metre tree, but I never wanted his help! It was... it was his fault... it was... it was entirely my fault. I sighed.
"Stop annoying me for a moment." I glared at him, then realised this might not be the best start to thanking someone for potentially saving their life. "I just came to, uh, thank you, for um saving me back there." I had began, not really knowing what to say.
-
"Hey, you there?" A pair of fingers snapped in front of my face and I pulled out of remembering that disastrous thank you. "What, remembering the great time we had together?" It was a certain very annoying, very haughty and very devilish red head.
"What are you doing Akabane Karma?" I growled.
"Nothing." he shrugged, then looks at the seething anger on my face. "Have you still not gotten over the fact I broke that vase and you had to pay for it?" I still glared at him. "Am I being glared at because you tripped and landed on your face because of my foot?" Now my glare can probably kill someone. "Or is it that I ate the rest of your sausage after you bit it?" My hands are ready to snap his arm again. "Hmm, is your hands clenching and unclenching because I had stole your phone and got your number? Because I called you twenty times yesterday?" Any moment now, any moment and I can strangle him. "Or are you angry because I took that photo of you while you were drooling in sleep?" He finished, smirking victoriously.
Wait... what?! "You what?!" I yelled, then remembered that we were in a classroom and everyone else could hear me clearly with my voice. "You took a picture of me when I was what?!" I yelled again in a lowered voice.
He shrugged again. "you know you fell asleep after the hospital bought dinner and you tried to strangle me right? Well, you started to drool half way through and I took a picture~" says Karma. He flips open his phone and shows me the homepage. It was me sleeping on the table beside the hospital bed, with a thin line of drool coming from my mouth and dripping onto the table.
"Delete that!!" I immediately jumped up and while trying to grab his phone, nearly crashing into the floor.
"Leiko-san! Karma-kun! We are starting the lesson, do not disrupt class!" Korosensei said, not looking pleased.
"Right..." Karma and I both poked out tongue out, then resumed glaring at each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Now then, shall we begin?" Korosensei said as I turned my attention back to the classroom, finding myself facing a classroom full of Korosenseis. Begin what? Korosensei can make multiples of himself? Geez, to what extent can his tentacles and mach speed go?

"Mid-term exams are approaching." Korosensei continued, "And so this period, I shall conduct a high speed intense study session!"

Study? What a drag. "Sensei's duplicates will thoroughly go over each of your weak subjects one by one." Korosensei announced, seeming quite pleased with himself. I think Korosensei's speed and power is building up, now he has enough duplicates that are somewhat steady for everyone in the class, whereas a week or so ago his limit was only three.

Then his head curved in.

"What the hell?!" I leaned back in surprise, then realised that the idiot Karma had thrust out a anti-sensei knife at Korosensei, which resulted in his head deforming to avoid the strike.

"Don't try to assassinate me all of a sudden Karma-kun!" Korosensei said, infuriated. "If I dodge, then it will affect all my duplicates!"

Karma stuck out his tongue and winked at me. I glared at him. "Leiko-san, please concentrate on your studies!" The Korosensei duplicate in front of me warned. I grinned and went back to work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Huh? What are you doing here Nagi-" I asked, seeing Nagisa-kun in the hallway near the faculty room after the day ended, stopping half way through as I heard voices coming from the faculty room.
"What are they talking about?" I lowered my voice to a whisper and put my ear against the wall beside Nagisa.
"Korosensei was trying to raise his salary by... sucking up to that chairman." Nagisa sighed, then frowned, "The chairman said something about Korosensei 'intending to become the worlds saviour, but have been reduced to it's destroyer instead.' Something like that."
Saviour? Destroyer? What is this about? I was about to speak again when I heard the Chairmans voice. How do I know it's the chairman? Because I've been given a special lecture by him the day before I entered the school.
"Speaking frankly," the chairman started, "it will be problematic if class E doesn't remain as is."
"As is. When you say as is, do you mean the situation where class E is the lowest of the group, and received the lowest treatments?" Korosensei responded.
"Indeed, by making 5% of the students miserable and weak, the other 95% will struggle to not fall into the hell of 'class E', which enables they're abilities to work hard and achieve my goals. It's all reasonable and rational." The chairman smiled, undeniably the smile of a predator. Sovereign. Leader.
"I see. Then it will become a problem if class E isn't weak like it's supposed to be." Korosensei's face was like usual, however I could not even detect a single trace of emotion.
"Indeed you are correct. One of my teachers reported that a student from class E 'glared ferociously at my student and on top of that, threatened to kill him.'"
Nagisa-kun's mouth twitched. "Uh..."
"So you were the one who threatened them, eh?" I eyed Nagisa-kun with a new sense of curiosity. I never really thought that he'll do that.
"No, that's not it!" He waved his hands around in a gesture to deny it, and told me about what happened after the assembly session I skipped for the tree climb.
"Oh wow!" I'm trying to hold in my laughter as I saw Nagisa's embarrassed facial expression. "So they were that much of an idiot and tried to scare us, you?" I rubbed my hand on my hurting stomach. "They must be desperate to remain their self proclaimed 'elited'."
We quietened down and resumed listening to the conversation going on inside the office. "...defying the ordinary students." the chairman said, "Please sternly tell them to refrain from doing so in the future." I straightened my back slightly, and found an angle in which I can see into the room without being noticed. The chairman seems to be taking something out of his pocket... a wire puzzle? "Also," he said, throwing the wire puzzle towards Korosensei as he walked forward, "please solve this puzzle within a second."
"Ehh? Why all of a sudden..." Korosensei caught the puzzle, flustered and puzzled himself, trying to use his Mach speed to solve it. Instead, he entangled nearly all his tentacles with the wire. This teacher...
"As the rumours say, your speed is incredible. And with that you can seemingly dodge any sort of assassination..." the chairman bent down beside the tangled up Korosensei. "But you know, in this world there are some problems that cannot be solved through speed, Korosensei." And with that, the chairman walked out of the room, natural and not a single bit flustered or showing any similar emotions after meeting our giant yellow octopus.
As soon as he started to walk out, I pulled Nagisa-kun near and pretended we were discussing some problems. I looked up as he turned his head towards us, his face void of expressions for a moment, then "Hey there, I'm looking forward to your mid-term exams," he said cheerfully to Nagisa and I. "Do your best!"
His footsteps echoed through the empty hallway as I stood still with Nagisa. With a simple callous 'do you best', I felt a sudden sense of inferiority, and went from being an assassin, right back to being a member of 'E-as-in-end-class' member. I glanced at Nagisa-kun. He seemed like he felt the same.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Leiko."

"Jesus!" I'm walking down the naturally formed dirt track down the mountain when someone tapped me on the back, startling me into nearly dropping my books. "What the bloody hell-" I stared. "Karma-kun?"

Akabane Karma stood behind me with a unfamiliarly serious expression.

"What is it, Karma?" I asked, crossing my arms. He seems upset.

"What were you doing standing close with Nagisa-kun after school in the hallway?" He asked, looking around the surrounding trees but not at me.

"Huh? We were listening, uh, eavesdropping on the Chairmans conversation with Korosensei." I answered.

" Hn. What do you think of Nagisa?" He asked unexpectedly.

"Nagisa-kun?" I pondered, "He's a good guy. Well I mean, he's nice to everyone in the class and helps everyone out. He's a pretty good friend too-" I stopped mid way through my sentence as I noticed Karma's expression change slightly. Even though other people may have not noticed, but I sensed a little spark of anger flowing off him and stopped talking. "What is it, Karma?"

"You said Nagisa is a pretty good friend." He said, completely ignoring my question. "So you like him?"

"Of course. He's my classmate, do you expect that I should hate him? I like him just as I like every other person in our class." I retorted, not understanding what is wrong with this guy. "Maybe excluding you, you're too annoying to be liked." I added.

"He's your classmate..." Karma muttered, staring at the ground. Surprisingly, he didn't reply to my comment of him being annoying. Then he raised his head and stared at me, he's usual playful expression returning. "So he's only your classmate and a friend, right?" I nodded, still confused at his reaction. "Then there is absolutely nothing to worry about." he grinned, all bad mood lifted and walked past me down the dirt track, grabbing my bag in the process.

"Hey what are you doing?!"

"Hmm? I'll carry your bag for you."

"I don't need you to carry my bag thank you very much! You have a dislocated shoulder and broken rib goddamn it! "

"Awwww. But I want to."

"Give it back idiot Karma!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I have multiplied my efforts even further. Now, let's begin class."
What. In. The. World. Is. THIS?!
Last time there was one multiple of himself for everyone. Now there is three or more. His after images have become shoddy, and some are completely different characters. "What exactly are you doing, sensei?" I asked with my chin on my desk, not bothered to move. "Aren't you a bit too hyped up?"
"Hmm? Not at all?"
The session went pretty fast, with Korosensei urging me on to try even harder questions since I was forced to study more advanced things in the academy with Lovro before I ditched.
After the session ended, Korosensei is absolutely exhausted. "Why are you putting so much effort in teaching us anyway, Korosensei?" I questioned him, staring at my math book with a carefully laid out planner, advanced questions, theory, and octopus drawings...
"Well, if you all get good scores in a test then....
'Korosensei! We all got good marks thanks to you!'
'Korosensei, I can't do anything without your lessons!'
'Korosensei, I just can't bring myself to kill you!'
'Korosensei! Can you please teach us collage girls too?'
'We've heard soo much about you Korosensei!'
"The danger of being killed would also disappear, then it will be two birds with one stone." Korosensei finished, looking smug.
"......" Everyone looked at one another while I put my head on my desk, deciding to use lunch time to fill in on my sleep.
"Well, we're better off assassinating you than studying..."
"Yeah, and there's the reward of ten billion yen."
"So even if we don't study, well live our lives pretty nicely." Everyone agreed.
"So that's what you're thinking?!" Korosensei responded, somewhat startled.
"You know Korosensei," Okajima-kun started, "we're in the E-as-in-end-class."
"We kinda have a better chance in assassinating you than doing well in a test." Mimura-kun finished.
"I understand very well. So that's what you're all thinking. As you are now, you are not qualified to be assassins." Korosensei declared, jolting me out of my half asleep state. "All of you, come to the schoolyard. Call Karasuma-sensei and Irina-sensei to come as well."
We followed Korosensei out to the schoolyard after notifying Karasuma-sensei and Bitch-sensei. Upon getting out of the building, we saw that Korosensei was slithering around and moving the goals.
"What is he doing?" I mumbled to Nagisa.
"...Who knows?"
As Bitch-sensei and Karasuma-sensei walked out, Korosensei turned to them. "I have a question for you, Irina-sensei, as an professional assassin."
"What's this all of a sudden..."
"Whenever you are on the job, do you only only have one plan prepared?" Korosensei asked.
"Of course not. Just as you'd expect, rather than one preferred plan, it's better to have a few possible routes." Bitch-sensei answered, "For assassins, its part of the basics... To construct thorough backup plans incase of unforeseen circumstances should arise."
"Now then, next is Karasuma-sensei." Korosensei continued, ignoring Bitch-sensei's indignation of her plans all thrown into disarray for his assassination. "When you teach knife work to the students, is the first blow the only crucial one?"
"Of course the first one is the most crucial," Karasuma-sensei started slowly, "but the movements afterwards are just as important. Against a formidable opponent, there is a high possibility that your first blow will be dodged. The precision of your second and third strike can difference between victory and defeat." he finished.
"What are you getting at..." I muttered getting a vague idea of what Korosensei is trying to prove.
"Just as the teachers said," Korosensei started to spin, "if your next move is assured you can become an assassin of full confidence. And what about you?" He asked, spinning even faster. "Thinking 'we'll be fine of we have the assassination', you have lowered your studying goals. You are only averting your eyes from the cause of your inferiority complex."
Korosensei spinning is beginning to start a small cyclone. "what if I were to flee from this classroom?" He asked. "What us another assassin killed me before you did? Having lost the assassination you think of as a contingency plan, you would be only left with your inferiority as class E." The cyclone was beginning to build up.
"Here is some advice from sensei, to those of you, who are so insecure."
"Those who do not posses a second weapon, are not qualified to call themselves assassins!" The small cyclone engulfed nearly the entire schoolyard as we were forced to step back. So this is what he is trying to tell us, who are ignoring the possibility of the assassination's failure.
"There were many weeds and uneven grounds on the school campus." Korosensei said as he slowed. "I have cleaned it up a bit."
Huh?! An... amazingly spacious and level sporting area appeared... "Sensei is a super creature capable of erasing the earth from existence. Levelling this space is a simple thing for me." I stared. "Unless you have confidence in yourself and show me that you have a secondary weapon. I will consider there to be no assassins in this classroom with the capability of assassinating me and leave, levelling this building along with you before I go."
"A second weapon." Nagisa spoke, "how long do we have?"
"That is already decided. You have until tomorrow."
"What?!" I uttered a sound of disbelieve.
"All of you, please score within the top fifty during tomorrow's midterm exam." Korosensei said, holding up a tentacle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Here it comes!"

"We can't kill it with just one knife! What are we supposed to do about this 'question four'?"

It is now the midterm exams. Math this session. Every single student had to take the exam in the main building. Which sucks.

"Hey. You class E brats better not cheat or anything like that. Cause we main building teachers are watching you reaaaally closely." the dumb ass teacher from class D drawled. I looked up and glared at him. He seemed to notice me, with a startled expression on his face, he avoided my gaze.

Hmph.

I glanced around absent mindedly as I solved the question with one hand, twirling my hair with the other. Everyone else seemed to be stuck. I debated on the possibility of that if sending a piece of paper to give them a hint would help, then discarded the idea as I looked at their determined faces and the teacher's cruel one. They'll make it on their own, and these stupid teachers would learn to eat their words!

I smiled, and returned my focus into the cursed 'question 11'.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stared down at my papers. Nothing out of my expectations. 97,83, 63, 99, 97 overall score 431. Sigh... my math and science still suck. Then I turned to home economics. 4. I GOT 4/100 FOR HOME ECONOMICS! Argh!!!!
"Nice scores." Karma leaned in over from his seat, then saw my home economics sheet before I could hide it. "Ohh. I see, your cooking skills are as bad as ever."
"Shut up!" I snapped. The task was to make a snack food to be eaten on the go. I made rice balls... actually, I tried making rice balls. Instead they ended up looking like weird white plastic balls that tasted like cooked paper somehow. I don't get the concept of this at all! Argh!! I hate cooking!!! I'm sulking, I am officially sulking.
However, apart from my ever-so-terrible cooking, there is an more important matter at hand. Korosensei said that if we don't all get to the top fifty, he will leave. Now as everyone looked at their test papers, which we have put in a lot of effort but failed, and Korosensei is facing the wall.
"It is my fault." he started. "I took this school's system too lightly. "I cannot bear to face you all."
Smack!
An anti-sensei knife flew straight for Korosensei's head as he dodged it the last split second and the knife hit the wall. "Nwah?!"
"Are you suuuure? If you can't face us, then you can't see me coming to kill you." Karma walked up between the desks, up to Korosensei.
"Karma-kun! Right now isn't the time! Sensei's is feeling very depressed right now.... huh?" Korosensei stopped as he caught Karma's test papers which he threw in midair.
99, 98, 100, 99, 98...
"Judging by my results," Karna started, "it is because you taught me to such an unnecessary extent..."
He score so much higher than me! Damn him! But that means... his scores are enough to go back to the main building! No... he can't go back. I... I don't want him to go back!
"...But I have no intentions of going back to the main building..."
I sighed in relieve. Although why I would do that...
"...An assassination is much more entertaining than going back to my old classroom." For some reason my heart dropped at the reason. What did I expect? To not go because of... me? I'm being stupid, what's up with me anyways? I shook my head and resumed paying attention to Korosensei and Karma's conversation.
"...Aren't you just scared of being killed, Korosensei?"
I saw everyone's expression lightening at those words. Hmph, leave it to that guy to turn the situation around.
"Yeah Korosensei, why didn't you just tell us 'I was scared so I want to run away'?" I called, smirking.
"Yeah Korosensei!"
"You should have just told us that from the beginning!"
"Nuaaaa! There is no way I'll run away!" Korosensei retorted, indignant. "I'll pay you back double at the end of term exams as revenge!"
Like that, the curtains for our midterm exams closed.
