~ 24 ~

Seolhee heard the doorbell ring. Once, twice. Her phone was ringing too, but she was too lazy to get either of them. Her head ached and her body was shaking with cries. Shaking with fear.

As she'd helped her mother pack, they'd received another call from the hospital in Canada. He'd been in a car accident. He was unconscious. He would be going into surgery.

Finally, the doorbell became too annoying to bear, and she got up and opened the door.

"Sunwoo?" she whimpered, tears falling down her face as she looked at the boy standing in front of her. He was a mess, just like she was. His hair was sticking up here and there as though someone had been trying to pull it out, and he was wearing two different sets of shoes, indicating that he'd rushed out of the house.

He took one look at her, her face red from crying and the crescent moon imprints that she'd left in her arms as she dug her nails into her arms, trying to stop her cries.

"Shit," he muttered, stepping forward and wrapping an arm around her. He used his other hand to close and lock the door behind them and then he wrapped both arms around her, holding her close.

"Sunwoo," she whimpered, crying into his chest. Her fingers curled around the material of his sweatshirt. "I'm so scared," she whispered. "What if he doesn't..." she trailed off, unable to even voice her biggest fears. Her knees buckled at the thought, and he caught her before she could fall, sweeping her into his arms and holding her bridal style. He started carrying her upstairs, probably to her room, since he'd been to her house enough times to know where it was. She closed her eyes and let herself be carried, feeling slightly dizzy.

"Which door is it?" Sunwoo asked when they got upstairs. She pointed to hers and he went inside, gently placing her on the covers. She covered her face with her hands, unable to stop her crying.

After a moment, she felt him lie down next to her, and soon his arms were around her again, holding her as she cried.

"It'll be alright," Sunwoo whispered gently. "He'll be alright. He's strong. He'll be okay."

"But what if he won't?" she said, her voice sounding broken. "Our last conversation was an argument. I was mad at him... and for what? I'm so stupid. I'm awful," she sobbed, her body trembling. Sunwoo held her tighter.

"That's not true," he said soothingly, stroking her hair and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "You're amazing."

"What if he dies thinking that I hate him?"

"One argument with him doesn't change all the good memories you guys have together," he assured her. "He knows that you love him. Trust me, he knows. If I know, then he definitely does," he said, his voice slightly teasing.

She tried to smile, but couldn't quite get herself to do it. "I'm scared," she said again, slowly wrapping her arms around Sunwoo too and pulling herself closer to him. "I'm really scared."

"I know," he said gently, his presence calming as he continued to absentmindedly play with her hair. She closed her eyes, drawing comfort from his presence.

"Why did you come over?" she whispered after a moment, daring to peek up at him.

Maybe she was imagining things, but her hand was resting on his chest, and it suddenly felt like his heart was beating faster.

"I heard that your brother was hurt and that your mom left... and I thought you'd be alone."

"Were you worried about me?"

He hesitated for a moment before giving her a sheepish smile. He pressed another kiss to her forehead, making her own heart skip a beat. "Maybe," he said. "Just a little."
