Chapter 8

Kayla's POV

It's Thanksgiving now, and my family, Michael's family, and Maddy are over at our house.  We're gathered at the table and in the living room, our heads bowed and eyes closed, holding hands.

"Lord, thank you so much for this food that you have allowed me to prepare today.  Thank you for every second of life you've instilled upon us.  Thank you for all the good times and joyous occasions we get to have.  In Jesus' name we pray.  Amen."  I say.  "Amen."  They all reply.

We start eating the food.  "Mmmmmmm.  Kayla, this is so good.  You've really outdone yourself."  My cousin Kiara says in the process of eating.

I smile.  "Thanks, Kiara.  I tried."  We all laugh and talk as we eat.  After eating, we all go to the living room to watch Thanksgiving comedy movies.

.....

I look around the room, noticing that two people have slipped away.  I walk outside.  Michael and Maddy are talking.  She laughs, smiling brightly as he's smiling brightly at her.

I walk up to them with a smile.  "Oh, hey, guys.  Whatcha laughin' about?"  "Maddy was just telling me a story about when she was younger."

"Oh, really?  Cool, what story?"  I say with a smile, turning to look at her.  "The story of the time I was in Kindergarten and I shoved a marker up a girl's nose and cut off her hair."

I laugh.  "That's hilarious."  I say.  "Right?"  Michael says in agreement with a smile.  "Aye, at least I had something to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey."  Maddy says with a laugh, making us laugh.

"So what happened after that?  Did her mom get pissed?  Did she grow it back out?"  I question.  "No, and actually, she kept the short hair look.  She looked really good with it."

"Well, we should go back inside guys."  I say.  We all go back in the house.
