Chapter 5

Kayla's POV

Five months have gone by, and Michael and I's relationship is even more amazing.  I'm so happy I have him.  He makes me so happy.  We are the definition of high school sweethearts.

I get a call from Maddy.  "Hey, Maddy.  What's up?  He WHAT?!  Oh my God, thank you for telling me!"

I hurriedly hang up the phone and rush to get my coat.  I put it on and dash out of the house.  I hop in my car and drive off.

.....

Uuuuuuggggh, gaaaaahhh!  Stupid fucking traffic.  The one day I don't need for it to be bad, it is.

.....

"Thank you, nurse."  I say to the nurse that helped me.  I run into Michael's room, rushing to his bedside.

"Oh my God, Michael, please be ok.  Please don't die on me."  I plead in sadness.

"They've stabilized him.  The doctor said he'll recover."  Maddy's voice says.  I didn't even notice her in the chair by the door.

"Oh my God, Maddy, thanks for being here for him and telling me."  "No problem.  That's what friends do.  I hope he recovers soon."

"I do, too."

.....

"Uuuhh-uuh."  I hear a tiny groan come from Michael.  "Baby!  Baby!  I'm here."  I say.  I never left his bedside.

"W-Where am I?"  He says, his eyes opening slowly.  "You're in the hospital.  Can you tell me exactly how this happened?"

His voice is raspy as he speaks.  "I was walking across the crosswalk.....when a drunk driver hit me."

"Oh my God, Baby, I'm glad you're still alive."  "I feel....like shit."  "Maddy, go get the doctor."  I say to her.  She leaves the room and returns with him.

.....

"He'll be staying here for a few days, but you can continue to visit him."  The doctor says to me.  "Thank you so much, doctor."  "No problem."

"Michael, I'm gonna go get you some stuff.  I'll be right back.  Maddy, you keep an eye on him."

I leave the hospital.

.....

I'm back at the house now, in our room.  I'm searching through the drawers of his nightstand, something catching my eye.

It's a receipt.  "The hell?"  I say, frowning.  I grab the receipt and read it.

It's a receipt for a hotel, dated a month ago.

This doesn't make sense.  Michael and I haven't been to a hotel recently.....

I go back to the hospital empty-handed and pissed as hell.

.....

I'm sitting in a chair in a corner, my arms folded across my chest as I scowl at the man I love.

I wonder how he's going to explain the receipt.  We'll just see when he gets back home.
