Thirty-six

Taehyung didn't have much friends. After high school, he never bothered to stay in touch with any of his classmates. Jimin was definitely the first real friend he had. Not that he was bothered by that fact, though he'd certainly come a long way to where was was now where he had found good people in his life to be called his friends like Jin, Namjoon and Hoseok.

But then again, technically all three of them were Jeongguk's friends first...

So when Mina called one day asking him out to lunch, he excitedly agreed.

To his knowledge, his former co-worker had quit her job at the diner a couple of months after he left to Japan. Through the rare phone calls that they've had together, Taehyung found out that she got another job though Mina was kinda discrete about it and refused to tell him what it was over the phone. Maybe he'll finally know at lunch with her today.

And he actually did find out, also at the same time almost choking on the iced tea that he was drinking.

Taehyung coughed out a few times before reaching for a napkin on the table. A kind waitress there had spotted him and offered him a glass of water to which he bowed his head and thanked her for. Then he lifted his head to face Mina in front of him with a horrified expression.

"You- You're an escort?!"

Mina shrugged like she'd expected this reaction from him. "Only on some days. I work at a club for every other night."

The still mildly-shocked man shook his head in disbelief. "Why?"

"It was getting boring working at that insufferable diner without you," She pouted, her lips pursing in all its dark burgundy shade of the lipstick she wore. "And in this way, I get to actually have fun at my job. You have no idea how many free drinks I get from those rich old fuckers at the club in a night."

The way Mina explained all this just added on to how Taehyung was against all this. He knew Mina was a very smart and beautiful woman. She's also kind and has been a really good friend to him. It wasn't his place to say anything but the thought of her having to serve drinks at a club every night, being an eye candy to all the horny men there who would've definitely wanted to get her in bed with them just sent a distasteful feeling coursing through him. He was concerned about her.

His worriedness was showing because in the next second, Mina had placed her hand over his from the other side of the table. "Oh honey, you don't have to worry about me. I'm a tough girl, I can handle it."

"But-" Taehyung sighed. "Don't you feel uncomfortable? Y'know, with the stares..." He slowly droned off, getting reminded of that damned dream he had about the other day. Even if it was just a dream, he still flinched every time he thought of those darkened stares eyeing him all over.

"No." Mina confidently smirked and pulled her hand back. "I like it. It's like a reminder that I'm still hot and also, sometimes its fun to tease those idiots into thinking they have a shot with me." She chuckled before reaching for the straw of her drink.

Taehyung was still looking at her, a little bit of his concern flying out the window at how comfortable his friend seemed with her profession. Yeah coming to think about it Mina had once told him that guys were afraid of her- to put it simply, she was just a... badass.

"But enough about me, how's everything with you?" Mina smirked again. "Are you finally dating that biker dude? Do you guys have sex a lot?"

"Mina!" Taehyung whipped his head both ways to see if anyone had heard her. Her question literally went from 'how are you?' to 'how's your sex life?'.

The said woman simply groaned without a care in the world. "Oh just tell me already. Are you two dating yet?"

"Yes we are."

Right away, Mina nodded her head giving him a look of approval. "Woah, look at you. Gettin' it on with that hot guy. I guess all the big tips he used to give you finally paid off huh..."

"What tips?" Taehyung narrowed his brows, looking confused.

"Did you forget how your boyfriend would always pay extra for the food he ordered at the diner?"

Again, Taehyung maintained that confused look on. Just what on earth was she talking about? Jeongguk had only once ate at the diner and that was when Taehyung was there with Jimin, the day he applied for the job. He'd certainly never dined there after that and only went there mainly to pick Taehyung up after his shifts ended. Was he forgetting something? Did Jeongguk- oh shit!

She's talking about Yoongi!

"No no! I'm not dating Yoongi," Taehyung waved his hands with a short laugh. "We're just friends." He had never imagined himself together with Yoongi before and this was just... oh wow, a huge misunderstanding on Mina's side.

"Then which biker are you-" Mina started before her eyes grew wide. "Oh fuck! You're dating that younger one?!"

When Taehyung didn't say anything back right away, the woman opposite him started shaking her head with a sly smile.

"What?" He asked shyly.

"Nothing... it's just you once accused me of being into bad boys and now you've managed to snog two of 'em."

Taehyung paused. "Snog?" He raised a brow.

Mina chuckled, raising a hand to push some of her dark hair back. "Oh yeah, I'm dating this English chick. Has a thick accent, sometimes I can't even understand her Korean."

"Oh okay... Wait what?! Chick? You're dating a girl?"

He watched the other smile again. "Did I forget to tell you? Yeah, I'm gay."

Once again, Mina had left Taehyung utterly speechless. She's gay?! Like what the fuck? He would've never guessed. Maybe that's why she's always had trouble dating guys- and maybe that's why it's easier for her to dodge those men at the club she worked at. Besides she being a tough person, she probably barely reacted to all their flirting.

"I can see that you're dying to ask me a thousand questions right now so I'll save you all the trouble," Mina spoke, pulling Taehyung out of his thoughts. "I've had a feeling for the longest time... I was just confused and scared at the time so I shrugged it off but then one night at the club, I met this girl. In short, we kissed and then I definitely knew-" She stopped, looking frustrated for the first time today.

"Yeah just don't judge me okay. I'm still trying to get used to all this."

Taehyung shook his head. "No. I'm not judging."

Then it was quiet between them two. Clearly both Taehyung and Mina had a lot on their minds. They've both discovered a lot about each other today; quite a few shocking details that just goes to show... you think you know a person huh.

"Just for the record, I'm not snogging both of them. Yoongi's dating another guy- Jimin. I think you've seen him before. Always carries his cello around."

"Wait, Yoongi's gay too?"

Taehyung nodded, putting on another confused expression at how Mina was suddenly pouting again.

"The hell do you look so disappointed for? You just said you weren't into guys."

Mina rolled her eyes at him. "I know but I'd still like to get with him." She licked over her lips, resting her chin in her palm with a dreamy look on. "He's hot... I'd be lying if I said I hadn't imagine him shirtless countless times."

Her saying that had led Taehyung to -against his better judgement- imagine the same thing. He instantly shut his eyes, getting ride of those thoughts. "Oh god- Mina, please stop talking."

"I won't." She smiled smugly. "I forget how easily flustered you get. But anyway just tell me, do Yoongi and your boyfriend know about each other?"

"They do."

"So they're what? Friends?"

Taehyung really didn't know where she was going with this but he had mixed feelings about it all. "Yes, they are. Why are you-"

"Honey, I'm just wondering how they can stay friends without fighting over you."

"I told you Yoongi has a boyfriend-" His eyes grew wide. "What do you mean without fighting over me?"

Mina took a long sip of her drink, at the same time bouncing her shoulders once. "I mean, I guess I've always thought that Yoongi had a thing for you."

Oh wow! More surprising things!

Taehyung didn't know why but he started laughing like crazy. "Wha- you... A-Are you crazy?!"

Now it was Mina who had a confused look on. "Well it's just cause he came to the diner a lot and he always left you those large tips-"

"That doesn't mean anything." Taehyung reasoned after calming down from his explosion of laughter. "Maybe he just knew that I was near to being broke and pitied me."

This time his friend didn't bother to justify anything on her side anymore. Instead Mina nodded like she understood, reaching to her bag on the side to retrieve something.

"That's a good thing then," She casually pulled out a box of cigarettes along with a black lighter. Ignoring Taehyung who was watching her movements with a, once again shocked gaze, the woman continued, "Wouldn't want your boyfriend to be jealous all the time now right."

They were sitting at one of the tables arranged outside the café so there technically wasn't anything against Mina from smoking. Taehyung wanted to comment on how he never knew she smoked but didn't. Instead, he waited for her to light the end of the cigarette stick that sat between her lips, the tip glowing a bright orange before thick smoke came pouring out into the air between them.

Then he voiced his thoughts.

But it wasn't about her smoking.

"Jeongguk doesn't get jealous."

After Taehyung had said that out loud, it properly dawned on him that he'd never really seen Jeongguk getting jealous before. Well yeah, he often expressed his concerns whenever Taehyung was going out to meet certain people. A perfect example would be Seo Jil-su but that wasn't really jealousy.

It was protectiveness.

That's right. It was in Jeongguk's nature to be protective over him and he'd always been this way even before they began dating. Taehyung could think about all those times Jeongguk jumped in to his rescue but the younger man's main intention was always to keep him safe. That's all.

Besides, what reason would Taehyung even give Jeongguk to get jealous for?

"Are you sure 'bout that?" Mina suddenly pressed.

Maybe it was the way she'd asked that or the fact that Taehyung had never really put much thought into this jealousy thing but he was suddenly unsure all of a sudden in contrast to his answer, "Y-Yeah, I'm pretty sure."

To his surprise (again), Mina just settled for a nod, not adding anything else to the topic.

After that, they continued on with other things to talk about. Through out all that, Taehyung had witnessed Mina lighting two more cigarettes after the first one. He had still not said anything about it yet but it was only because it didn't bug him that much like it did before. Suddenly the smell of the burning tar and nicotine wasn't all that bad. It was just... normal.

Almost everyone on the street nowadays probably had a pack of cigarettes tucked in their pockets- be it a man or woman. It was just the way the world had shaped up to be now, it was nothing to be shocked about, nothing to be grossed out by... it was accepted.

"...I swear I had to push the guy off me. He was so fucking wasted and kept telling me that he'd rock my world if I left with him- oh man, I was cringing so much." Mina laughed, finishing off a story.

Taehyung laughed along, shaking his head at that. They were really having a great talk and a wonderful time together.

But like all good things, their time together had eventually reached its end. They both got up and stood next to their table, saying their final goodbyes to each other.

"It was really nice seeing you Mina. I had a great time today." Taehyung smiled sweetly at her.

Mina smiled back. "Me too." She dug around in her purse for something, presumably her car keys. "Do you need a ride back or..."

"No. Jeongguk's picking me up."

At the mention of the dark-haired man, the smirk returned to Mina's lips again. "What? You can't take the bus home? Is your boyfriend that protective over you or do you just like him babying you?" She joked.

Taehyung rolled his eyes. "Shut up, he's not like that."

"Okay okay." Mina opened her arms wide, gesturing for them to hug. Although right then, her eyes briefly flickered over to something behind Taehyung but she quickly pulled the other in for a hug to dismiss the act of her wandering eyes.

After their short embrace, Taehyung was about to pull away but he felt Mina still holding onto him. His eyebrows narrowed just in time for him to feel a low whisper tickle the side of his ear.

"You still think he doesn't get jealous?"

Confused by those words along with other emotions dancing around in his head, Taehyung was totally caught off guard for what happened next.

With his eyes wide as saucers, he felt Mina's lips on his own. She was kissing him. On the lips! Her arms wrapped around his neck in a dramatic kiss scene with one of her legs popping like Anne Hathaway in the Princess Diaries.

What the hell was happening?!

He was frozen, not able to move.

Taehyung's eyes remained open and full of shock when his friend pulled away. Mina smirked at him as she fixed her hair. Her eyes drifted to something behind him again before she finally gave him one last look and strutted away in her high heels that clicked against the pavement with every step she took.

"See you later, sexy." She hollered without turning around and just like that, she disappeared down the street.

"What..." Taehyung let out a breath, confused at why Mina had just done that. He didn't know what to feel at the moment. Everything just happened so fast. Y'know that rush of adrenaline you feel before reality kicks in and you realize that you just fucked up.

Still in a daze, Taehyung turned around practically feeling the thoughts in his head colliding with each other in justification that maybe it wasn't all that bad. Yeah, he could joke about it if Jeongguk asked about Mina-

And that was when his eyes locked with another pair.

Just a few feet away from him, Jeongguk was there leaned against his car with his arms crossed over his chest. Maybe it was because he was dressed in all black or had a black baseball cap on that only darkened his piercing gaze but Taehyung was actually scared now.

Oh god... oh god. Where are the aliens ready to abduct you and bring you to space when you need them at a time like this?

There was really no escaping this.

Damn it... thanks a lot Mina.
