Chapter 30
When the waiter came around to take everyone's drink order Ajay was patiently waiting for Gauri's turn.
Waiter: Miss and what you would like to drink?
Looking at the alcoholic drink menu was just like reading a foreign language. She had no idea how any of these concoction tasted. This was exactly what Ajay had wanted.
"Gauri you should order a Long Island Ice Tea." Ajay suggested.
She started to scan the menu for the drink but didn't see it there. "It's not on the menu."
"It's not a house special. It's more of a universal popular drink. You can just order it at any place that sells alcohol."
In Gauri's mind she figured a drink that was called an Ice Tea must be to her liking but when she was about to give the waiter her order Dilpreet had interrupted.
"A Long Island Ice Tea is too strong of a drink for you Gauri. How about trying a Malibu Sunset. It has pineapple juice and a shot of coconut rum."
"Malibu Sunset?"
"When the drink comes you will know why they call it a Malibu Sunset."
Ajay could sense that Gauri was leaning towards Dilpreet's suggestion and was not too happy and when the words "I'll take a Malibu Sunset" came from her lips his eyes grew dark.
"Should I try a Long Island Ice Tea next then?" Gauri curiously asked Dilpreet.
"Since you have no experience with mixed drinks it's not wise to drink that."
His voice was soft and warm as he spoke with Gauri but then everyone saw Dilpreet turn his focus on Ajay.
"You should not suggest a drink that contains 4 different types of alcohol to a woman you barely know. It may make one think you had some motive to do so."
When Ajay saw Gauri's lowered brows and narrowed eyes he immediately denied Dilpreet's accusation.
"What? I did not know Gauri has never drank. If I had I would never suggest such a strong drink."
Though his voice showed no anger everyone could feel Dilpreet give Ajay a warning.
"I suggest that if you do not know it's best to not suggest that drink to a woman. A drink like that is strong but due to the sweet and sour taste of the mixture she would not be able to tell."
Dilpreet's words painted a very ugly picture of Ajay in the eyes of almost everyone at the table but no one dared to say a word. They only sat as Ajay tried his best to convince Gauri that he did not mean any harm.
"Gauri! Trust me. If I had known I wouldn't suggest it but nevertheless you are surrounded by us co-workers. Even if something were to happen we would take care of you and take you home safely."
Riddhima was tired of seeing Ajay drown himself and decided to lend out a helping hand by changing the focus. When the waiter asked her what she wanted Riddhima looks over at Omkara seductively as she played with the edge of the menu.
"Dilpreet....what drink would you recommend for me?"
Gauri could see Riddhima's lips curve up in a sultry smile as she kept staring at Dilpreet provocatively. If she would have known they were like this she would have never asked Dilpreet to come today. With a worried look Gauri tries to read Dilpreet's eyes which showed no feelings at all when answerin to Riddhima.
"Water."
From a table not so far away a man was suddenly choking on his own drink.
"Rudra! stop it! We will get caught!" Bhavya whispers angrily as she covers her face with a large menu.
"That Dilpreet is savage. He said water! ahahahhaha....W-A-T-E-R."
Rudra was trying his best to hide his laughter but with the tears coming out of his eyes it was hard not to join in. As the two laughed and laughed Riddhima's face was bright red. She has never been so humiliated in her entire life.
"Does this jerk know how many men would die to buy her a drink?!" With all eyes on her Riddhima calmly asks Dilpreet "Why water?"
"Water cools a body down."
It was now Ajay's turn to feel sorry for Riddhima as her face became distorted. The look of utter humiliation was too hard to witness and the odd laughing couple who were sitting a few feet away only made matters worse.
Rudra: "Did you just hear that? He said to cool her down! ahhahahahahahhaa"
Bhavya: "I have to admit I am not regretting Gauri bringing Dilpreet because if it was me I don't think I can keep my temper in check. These people obviously has it out for Gauri! I thought you said Oberoi Fashion was a good place to work!"
Rudra: It's the best but you can't expect some kind of Utopia. Every company will have their problems but in Oberoi Fashion there is a higher level of expectations. If anyone of them overstep their boundaries they will be delt with.
Even though she was thoroughly insulted Riddhima did not want to show any sign of losing and proceeded to play dumb to Dilpreet's words.
"But I do not feel hot. I too would like to taste something fruity and hold something pretty." Looking back at the waiter who was standing their the whole time Riddhima ordered the very same drink as Gauri. "I'll also take a Malibu Sunset."
Omkara could not believe how thick skinned this woman was. Is she not going to leave him be? He was hating the fact that Gauri kept looking at him with worried eyes.
Over at the other table Rudra was feeling sorry for the roll of bread that was being squished in his girlfriend's hand.
"That vile woman! Look at her! Dilpreet is with Gauri and she is all over him!"
"I thought you didn't care for Dilpreet."
"That's not the point! Tonight Dilpreet belongs to Gauri and that woman is trying to seduce him right in front of everyone! She's just trying to humiliate Gauri! I know women like her! She is trying to make Gauri's life miserable. I mean come on! Dilpreet has a freaking mask on. He could be ugly as hell and that woman would still chase after him because of wanting to hurt Gauri."
"Calm down woman!" Rudra whispered. "We are gonna get caught if you keep smashing all the rolls on the table. I think you're hungry let order food. The waiter is already serving them theirs.
" I am not HANGRY Rudra!"
"Say that to that poor piece of bread in your hand besides I'm hungry."
"Fine. At least if Gauri needs me I will have the strength to protect her!"
Rudra looks at Bhavya and started to wonder "Would you be this mad if you knew I have been lying about who I really am?"
Bhavya sees that Rudra was not himself as his eyes concentrated on her in an unusual way.
"What's the matter?"
"Uh? Nothing. I'm just hungry."
When the food came out the drinks that everyone ordered came along with it. Gauri could not take her eyes off the glass that really did look like a sunset. It was red at the bottom and yellow on the top with a cherry as a garnish.
"The red color is due to a red syrup they call grenadine and that yellow color is from the pineapple juice." Omkara softly whispers to Gauri. When she took her first sip she could immediately taste the alcoholic taste with a coconut flavor that made her feel like she was on a beach at a tropical paradise.
"How is it?" Omkara asked.
"I like it very much. I love coconut." smiled Gauri.
"Take your time drinking it."
Nodding her head as she looks at the chicken alfredo she ordered and the Chicken Marsala served over angel hair pasta set in front of Dilpreet.
"I heard from Rudra that your Chicken Alfredo was very good."
Gauri was surprise that Rudra would even mention this to Dilpreet and she couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed since they were at a 5 star italian restaurant.
"It's the only italian pasta dish I know how to make. I practiced quite a bit with different recipes."
"I'm even more interested."
Gauri didn't know what to say as Omkara's eyes were very peircing and she felt that he was waiting for the right words to come from her mouth.
"I can....make some for you next time."
"I can't wait."
Ever since she has given Dilpreet the green light to try and pursue her it seems he has a way to steer her towards his direction. She actually felt being lead to offer to cook for him.
Ajay who looked like he was stabbing his piece of chicken as he looks at Gauri whispering and chatting with Dilpreet.
"How can I just sit here and let him take her!" Clenching his fist under the table Ajay puts on his big smile.
"Gauri you cook? I would also love to taste your Chicken Alfredo."
Dilpreet shot Ajay a glance that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up but Ajay refused to back down.
"How about next weekend?"
Rudra who was eating his own Chicken Alfredo Pasta was in shock that this man had the audacity to set a date. Granted Gauri's Chicken Alfredo tasted much better then this restaurant but how can he so brazen as to invite himself? Especially in front of Omkara? Was he crazy?! Bhavya on the other hand was waiting to see how Gauri would reply.
Bhavya was not the only one waiting on Gauri because Dilpreet was also curious how she would deal with this. Even though he'd be more then happy to refuse that bum on her behalf but he knew it wasn't his place to do so. He was not her boyfriend....yet.
"No need for the weekend. I can just pack you some to bring to the office."
Though Omkara was pleased that Gauri didn't want to invite Ajay over to her house but the thought of having him enjoy her food any other way still irritated him. He was just going to somehow make sure that lunchbox never lands into the wrong hands.
Gauri was hoping that this would end the conversation but it seems Ajay was still not satisfied.
"Food taste best when we eat it right away. Packing it would hinder it's taste."
"Not true. I find every lunchbox that Gauri has packed for me taste just the same as the night she freshly cooked it."
Everyone's jaw dropped hearing the mask man speak and Gauri could see in their eyes that they were imagining all sorts of untrue matters regarding her and Dilpreet.
Riddhima who was already humiliated earlier kept quiet as she drank her Malibu Sunset but upon hearing how close Gauri and Dilpreet was she felt vexed. "A village girl like her who just arrived here in Mumbai was able to have men flocking while ignoring her?! Impossible!"
Ishana could tell Riddhima was angry so she suggested for them to go freshen up. Grabbing Riddhima's arm Ishana pulls her along. "We will go freshen up and will be back quickly."
When they entered the restroom Riddhima immediately went into a frenzy.
"How dare they! I will ruin that girl! Humiliate me like that! And who is that guy to reject me?! REJECT ME?! In front of everyone?!"
Ishana tried her best to calm Riddhima down. "Calm down Riddhima. Don't forget the plan."
Finally taking deep breaths Riddhima looks at herself in the mirror. "You're right. Let's begin."
She takes out her cell phone and dials a number.
"Hello?"
"It's me. Be there in one hour. I have reserved you a room next to ours. Did you see the photo I sent?"
"Yes."
"Good. Make sure you take care of her real...real..good. Don't forget that without the photos you will not receive the other half of the payment."
"Rest assure it will be done."
As she hung up her phone Riddhima looks at herself once again in the mirror and starts to adjust her messy hair. "Enjoy while you can now Gauri." But as the two women exit the bathroom Bhavya angrily slams her stall door open.
"Bitches! You go to this extent to harm her! OVER MY DEAD BODY!"
