Naruto felt proud of himself, he finally got the ring he wanted for Shikamaru. The Nara had protested against him giving him an engagement ring but Naruto smacked him across the head for it. Shikamaru in the end accepted the ring. Now they were waiting for another set of rings before they started planning the wedding. One being their marriage rings and the other set being for the kids.

Now in the eyes of Naruto Uzumaki, despite them being a family the rings would be the physical representation in the eyes of everyone that they were a family. Plus it was a cute way to incorporate them in the wedding. Shikamaru only smiled at the idea, he found Naruto's thoughtfulness adorable. He looked down at the simple engagement ring and smiled.

"No mistakes this time. It feels just too good." Shikamaru said as he led Naruto to a cliff. It was at the edge of the Konoha forest and over looked a roaring river with jagged rocks. 

"Shikamaru what are we doing here?" Naruto tilted his head. Shikamaru hugged him and kissed his cheek. 

"To get rid of these." Shikamaru held up a palm which held four rings. Their previous wedding rings along with their ex-wives' rings. Naruto looked surprised for a moment before he picked up the rings he bought for Hinata and himself and chucked it in the abyss. Naruto watched them fall and finally said a final goodbye to that awful chapter.

'I don't know what happened to us Hyuga-san but I'm happy now.' Naruto turned to look at his fiance who was doing the same. 'Really happy.'

'Subaku, we had a good run but I'm in for something greater.' Shikamaru watched the rings disappear and took Naruto's hand. The blond tightened his grip and they headed off the cliff and back to the village. 

"Ne Shikamaru." Naruto called softly as they jumped down the rocks. Shikamaru stopped on a flat area and looked up to were Naruto stood on a boulder. "Do you think we can handle being married?"

"Naruto I can't promise everything will be smooth sailing but I know for a damn fact that I will do my best to make everything alright for you and the kids." He said sincerely as he blushed a bit.

"Would you look at that, even in this age your still blushing." Naruto teased as he jumped down into waiting arms. He kissed Shikamaru who gently placed him back on his feet.

"I feel like a teenager despite being in my thirties." Shikamaru murmured as he looked away from him.

"Is that your way of saying I make you feel young again?" Naruto quirked an eyebrow, Shikamaru rolled his eyes playfully but left the question unanswered. Naruto pouted. "Come on tell me!" He whined as they continued their way down.

Boruto eyed the box that his mother held in his hands as the others came down the stairs. The twins were in the crib in the living room and when everyone was seated Naruto started the conversation.

"So as you know, we became family under awful circumstances. We had some bumps with adjusting to this and finding our dynamic but we did. Now you know we'll be getting married and that would make us an official family at least on paper, Uzumaki-Nara. To show this in a physical representation I got these for you." Naruto opened the box and they looked over in it to see rings lined out with the Hidden Leaf insignia.

They were plain colored bands but the simplicity was beautiful. Shikamaru leaned forward and ruffled their heads. "Come on pick one the last two will be for Haruto and Shikaru."

"What have we done to deserve these?" Himawari asked as her eyes brimmed with tears as she picked out the gold band. Boruto had the black one and Shikadai had the blue band. 

"Hima-chan, Boruto, Shikadai your all wonderful children and this is just a way to show that we are all in this family together." Naruto said smiling. "Do you like them, if you don't like the color I can get them change-ahhhhh!" Naruto was bombarded with hugs. 

"It's okay they're beautiful." Shikadai smiled as he slipped on the blue band. 

"This serves to remind me that I'm apart of a perfect family, I'll hold it close, always." Boruto said as he placed the ring on his middle finger.

"Don't worry about it being destroyed by ninja life, they're made to resist that." Shikamaru said as he took the last two rings. He headed over to the crib and held them out to the babies. Haruto climbed over a sleepy Shikaru to reach the shiny objects.

"Dada," He murmured as he tried reaching the rings. He pouted when Shikamaru teased him by pulling it away a bit. Haruto teared up a bit and turned to Shikaru and started shaking her. The baby Nara looked at her twin, then her father and turned to her mother who was watching in amusement.

"Mama," Shikaru said and giggled. "Shine." She pointed to the rings Shikamaru held and waited for the desired effect. Naruto gave his baby girl a smile before slapping Shikamaru over the head. 

"What was that for?" Shikamaru yelped as he dropped the rings in the crib. Haruto squealed in pleasure and picked up the silver one offering it to Shikaru who resumed her sleeping position after taking said ring in her chubby hands. Haruto gurgled as he admired the rose gold one.

"Stop teasing them." Naruto said with a sly smile. He turned to the babies and paid careful attention so they didn't swallow said gift.

"Mom, when is the wedding?" Shikadai asked as he hugged Naruto around his waist. Naruto tilted his head with pursed lips. 

"I'm not sure, when we reach a half way mark with planning we'll set a date." Naruto answered kissing his forehead. Boruto clung to his other side.

"Can we have yakisoba on the menu." Boruto asked as he rocked on the soles of his feet.

"Sure no problem." Naruto chuckled. Himawari was playing with Haruto and turned to them with a grin.

"Can I be a flower girl?" She looked away nervously as she played with her kimono. Shikamaru picked her up and nodded at her request.

"You'll be really pretty, I can't wait to see your outfit." Shikamaru said ruffling her hair which was getting longer. It was starting to take form of Naruto's spiky hair. "You know, your hair is starting to look like your mother's."

Himawari had a full blown grin. "Really!" She squealed as she looked at her Papa for confirmation, Naruto nodded with a proud smile. "Yay! I look like Papa." She boasted as she stuck her tongue out at her brothers. Boruto pouted and flipped his hair which garnered more laughter from the family.

'This really is happening.........I'm going to be marrying Shikamaru.' Naruto thought as he watched said man play with the children. 'Do I deserve this.' Naruto shrugged his shoulders at the thought and joined in the fun.
