Prologue

A man and woman both stared down at a young girl with a small skinny frame and long wavy dark hair. They looked at her with tears in their eyes as they kneeled to meet her big fear-stricken dark eyes. "Eomma, why are you and appa crying? Why did we run to the park in the middle of the night? Why was my room like that?" asked the young girl as her mother gently caressed her daughter's cheek with her right hand.

"Listen to me Chaeyoung, eomma and appa have to leave you but it is not because we don't love you. Eomma and appa have made a big mistake and we must leave before the consequence of our actions comes to find you." Chaeyoung stared at them for a few seconds before her eyes began to water and she bit down on her bottom lip to stop herself from crying.

Despite being so young, she was quite mature for her age and hated being bothersome to her parents. She wanted to show them that she was strong but her parents were leaving her and no kid in the world, no matter how strong they seemed, could deal with that. Her parents used to be very caring and loving towards her before they suddenly landed extremely successful jobs that got them out of the run-down house they lived in and into a big house with anything they could ever need or want.

After a while, strange things began happening to her like her toys moving around on their own to her waking up with strange bruises or scratches on her body. She alerted her parents and at first, they shrugged it off as her being an imaginative child since she enjoyed creative activities like drawing but as soon as the marks on her body began to get worse they panicked.

The final straw happened a few minutes before going to the park in the middle of the night. Chaeyoung had woken up screaming at the top of her lungs when her room furniture was all over the place and her bed was placed at the edge of the balcony. The walls in her room were covered in blood writing that said, "time to play, Chaengie."

Her parents came running to her room and their eyes widened when they saw the state of it and that their seven year old daughter's bed was at the edge of her balcony in danger of falling. Her mother had picked her up and they ran out of the house and into the park as fast as they could.

They knew why this was all happening and they thought back to when they made the biggest mistake of their life. They sacrificed the life of their own daughter to a demon exactly one year before this incident happened to succeed in life during a moment of weakness and frustration.

The deal was that success and luxury would instantly come to them in exchange for the promise that the life of their daughter would be sacrificed at any time during adulthood. Despite a few minor incidents, life was going so well that they completely forgot about the deal until strange things began happening to their daughter. They tried to find ways to communicate with the demon that they had summoned but to no avail.

The writings on the wall were there to remind the Parks that the demon was around and that playing around with Chaeyoung was something that it was going to do every now and again till the day Chaeyoung was promised to die. The demon was summoned by them so in their moment of blinded fear they honestly believed that if they separated from her that Chaeyoung would be safe, thus their decision of abandoning her.

Chaeyoung's tears rolled down her chubby cheeks as she stared at both of her sobbing parents. She hugged both of them tightly, not wanting to ever let go of either of them. "E-eomma...a-appa...I don't understand. W-why do you have to l-leave me? I d-don't want to be alone!" she yelled into the embrace as loud as she could, causing her parents' sobbing to get louder.

"Chaengie, we are doing this to protect you. We were weak at one point and made a bad decision without considering the consequences. We never thought that anything would actually happen." stated her father as he and his wife slowly let go of their daughter. "You must be a strong girl, Chaeyoung. Never forget that we love you very much. Look for an adult that can help you and protect yourself. Goodbye Chaeyoungie and happy birthday, princess." Her parents gave her a kiss on each cheek before getting up and running away.

Chaeyoung chased after them, trying to catch up but she tripped on a rock and fell to the ground. She looked up at their retreating backs and cried out to them but they never turned back. "They said they are leaving to keep me safe but they are running away from me because they are afraid of me. I'm a scary child and that is why I am alone. Goodbye eomma and appa. I'm sorry for being scary." she weakly whispered as her eyes slowly closed and she passed out from exhaustion.
