Chapter 23

Chaeyoung had worked before so she had some experience when it came to trainings and stuff like that. However, training to work at Kim Seokjin's café was something entirely different from what she had expected it to be. While Jimin did teach her the basics of how to work in a normal café, the majority of her three-day training consisted of how to perfect her wink, how to sweet talk the customer, as well as how to perfect the Kim Seokjin specialty, the trademark flying kiss.

She cringed whenever she had to practice the last three things of her training as she wasn't the type of person that would either wink, sweet talk, or throw flying kisses at people. She just had to tolerate being around other people at her previous jobs, acting polite and throwing in a smile every now and again but never had to charm her way into their heart to get their attention.

While her suffering continued, three other men were enjoying the heck out of her training, Jimin especially. He now had a growing collection of videos and pictures of Chaeyoung trying to wink and attempt the trademark flying kiss. He just couldn't help it as every time she tried to complete one of the last three steps of her training, she just looked so cute that he would automatically take his phone out to capture the moment.

(A/N: I kept forgetting to add pics where I could so here ya go! A smiley Jimin for you :D)

It made it even better when she would try to snatch his phone away, begging him to delete the potential blackmail material but he never budged and would easily dodge her weak attempts. Chaeyoung had to admit that she had fun as well, while being embarrassed most of the time, it was great to hear the laughter of the three most important people in her life. Moments like that made her forget about all the troubles she had and the potential danger that lurked for her and her favorite people every day. She knew that these were just fleeting moments, but she wanted to hold onto the memories and the people in them forever. She would fight her dang hardest to protect every single one of their precious smiles; she could bet her life that she would.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that her training was long gone, life had returned to a somewhat normal pace as she had successfully begun to work as any normal person in society would. She had grown accustomed to working at the café, Jin having accommodated her schedule alongside his and Jimin's for most of the time.

She knew that she couldn't always be around them, so she had introduced herself to the few others that worked in the café just to make it easier on Jin who couldn't attend to her 24/7 as well as Jimin who had his duties to attend to as well. Everyone was really nice but she couldn't really expect anything less since Jin was a good judge of character. Thanks to them, Chaeyoung felt a lot more comfortable working at the café when her schedule didn't match up with Jin's or Jimin's.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jungkook always stayed by her side when she was either at home alone or at work without the presence of the other two males. Usually, she would have been fine not having Jungkook guarding her when Jin and Jimin were not around, but she had felt kind of strange lately. She didn't feel like it was anything supernatural. Although the demon's silence did unease her a bit, she was used to its frequent disappearances for short or long periods of time. However, this new feeling was something else. She felt like she was being watched at all times and she would hear random noises when she was outside for any particular reason. It couldn't be a ghost because neither her or Jungkook could feel or see anything.

"Do you still feel like you are being watched, Chaeyoung?" Jungkook asked as she left the comfort of their home to get some fresh air. It was one of those days where she wasn't at work since Jin wouldn't allow her to work all the time just like how she wanted. Chaeyoung huddled into the warmth of her scarf, arms wrapping around herself as she waddled on a slippery sidewalk from the snow that kept falling.

She shook her head at Jungkook's question, looking over at the male for a second. "No, I haven't had the feeling for about a week now. I guess it's safe to say that it might have just been my paranoia. I mean things have been so normal lately...it kind of makes me uneasy." she whispered to him, trying to not attract the attention of people walking past her.

Jungkook hummed at her response, silence washing over the two as they headed to a park that was not too far away from their home. It was a beautiful wintery sight that exuded festive vibes as the holiday season had rolled around quicker than they had even expected. So much had happened in their lives that they lost complete track of time and the year was almost coming to an end.

Chaeyoung carefully walked around the snowy paths, her heart filling with warmth and a hint of sadness as she watched all of the families that were having a good time together. She knew that she had a new family of her own now, a family she was so grateful to have but a part of her wondered what it would have been like to grow up in a warm and loving household. Maybe holidays would have been of bigger importance to her.

Just like her birthday, Chaeyoung really never celebrated any holiday until she met Jin and Jungkook. She always witnessed people celebrating and she had taught herself all about the holidays after she had grown curious, but she never truly understood them. Even now, every time a holiday rolled in she just thought of it as any other normal day with the exception of the decorations or special food Jin prepared.

Chaeyoung sighed in satisfaction once she found an empty bench after a bit of walking. She hurriedly cleared the piled-up snow and sat down, raising her knees up to her chest and hugging them to keep herself warm. She exhaled, watching her visible breath disappear into the air. She really didn't know what was going on but her heart clenched and she just felt really down. Jungkook automatically sensed her blue atmosphere and plopped himself down beside her, his bottom hovering slightly above the bench.

She paid no mind to Jungkook until she felt hair suddenly tickle her cheek and a weight on her side. Chaeyoung turned her head slightly, a small smile forming on her lips as she found the young ghost boy leaning onto her. His arms suddenly wrapped around her form, his head snuggling in closer. "You don't have to say anything, Chaeyoung. I know that no matter how much time passes...these times just make you feel a little down." Jungkook didn't turn to look at her as he spoke, his eyes just watched over the kids that were giggling as they jumped into the arms of their loving parents.

Chaeyoung let out a breathy sigh, a sudden wet warmth rolling down her cheeks as she stared at the same scene Jungkook was looking at. Jungkook's hold on her tightened as he heard her sniffles. He knew her heart ached at the moment and no matter how happy she tried to act during these times, she always ended up breaking down secretly with Jungkook comforting her in the end. No matter how much time had passed, Jungkook knew her heart never truly recovered from the emptiness that could have been filled with the precious times she could have spent with her family if only they had cared.

Jungkook knew how it felt like to not have a family of his own. How it felt to be alone during the holiday seasons and to not have a warm and loving household to turn to when he was feeling down. He had been left on an orphanage doorstep and had practically spent his childhood there until Jin's parents adopted him.

All those years he watched his friends leave one by one while he kept getting pushed back to the room whose bed had become smaller and smaller. The orphanage staff tried to pretend like they cared but he could see their true feelings behind their pity-filled smiles. They were only there to get paid because at the end of the day, they would all just go home and return to their own loving homes forgetting all about that one homeless child with the hopeless eyes.

Jungkook sighed, raising his hand to rub soothing circles onto the back of the crying girl. Chaeyoung just lowered her head down onto her knees, embarrassed that she had suddenly let her emotions get the best of her. She heard her phone vibrate through the material of her thick coat but she wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone at the moment. Instead, Chaeyoung and Jungkook remained in that position for a while with her sniffles filling the quiet park once the people that were there had left.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chaeyoung could hear rushed footsteps heading her way and she felt Jungkook leave her side but she didn't try to see what was going on as the crying had drained the energy out of her. She just kept her head down until glove-covered hands were placed on either side of it. She would have panicked at the sudden touch if not for the familiar aura that made her heart flutter. Chaeyoung felt her head raise and her eyes met with Jimin's worried ones. His nose red and his breathing was heavy as if he had just ran a marathon.

"I-I had a feeling something was wrong so I told Jin hyung and we rushed over. You didn't answer your phone so we panicked and Jin hyung said you came here often so we ran all the way here." Jimin's words were rushed as he scanned her face all over, his gloved thumbs softly rubbing her cheeks that were stained with dry tears.

Chaeyoung uncurled herself and Jimin quickly pulled her into a tight hug, "a-are you okay, Chaeyoung? I don't know if it makes you feel better but I'm here now...we're all here for you now." His voice was a gentle whisper, a reassurance just for her that she greatly appreciated as she returned his tight embrace. She held onto him as if her life depended on it, all her previous negative thoughts vanishing. She dug her face into the crook of his neck, a sense of comfort and safety taking over her.

She moved away from Jimin a bit, staring at his face that quickly turned bright as he gave her a beautiful smile that reached his eyes. Her heartbeat increased the more she looked at him and she raised her own gloved hands to cup his cheeks. She leaned in slowly, their foreheads and noses touching lightly. Usually she would be too embarrassed to do anything like that but she didn't care at the moment. Both Jimin and Chaeyoung closed their eyes, small sighs of content leaving their lips. "Let's get you home, Chaeng-ah." Jimin whispered, making Chaeyoung blush at the use of her nickname.

(A/N: Credit to the owner of this cute edit!)

They finally pulled away from each other, Jimin took a hold of Chaeyoung's hand, smoothly intertwining their fingers. Chaeyoung stood from the bench, face flushed when she looked at Jin and Jungkook who stared at them with smirks on their faces before they gave her a heartwarming smile. Chaeyoung squeezed Jimin's hand before she gave the other two males a bright smile of her own. She felt her heart fill with joy as her eyes glanced from male to male finally landing on the one beside her.

Chaeyoung felt stupid for having cried over a family she didn't need when she now had a family that truly loved her and would do just as much for her as she would do for them. She didn't have to say anything at that moment as they all seemed to understand her; their hearts running on the same wavelength. Jin and Jungkook turned around to walk away, knowing that Jimin and Chaeyoung would soon follow them. Jimin squeezed Chaeyoung's hand and gently pulled it forward as he began to walk to catch up with Jin.

She let out a soft laugh as she let herself be led to her other friends but suddenly stopped when she heard sounds coming from the trees. Not only could she hear the sound of footsteps breaking twigs on the snow but she could have sworn that she heard the shutter of a camera go off. Jimin looked back when they stopped moving and stared at Chaeyoung as she worriedly looked around. "Is everything okay?" he asked her. Chaeyoung just shook her head, believing that she was merely hearing things again.

She then turned to him and nodded, "yes, everything is okay. I just thought I heard something, but it was probably just a squirrel. Let's go." Jimin remained still for a bit longer until Chaeyoung wrapped her arm around his, leaning into him with a smile. "Let's go, Jimin-ah~" she stated teasingly before she ran away laughing with a shocked Jimin chasing after her.
