Chapter 20
A couple of weeks passed by since Chaeyoung was discharged from the hospital. She took a bit of time off from everything once she went back home to think a few things through. After some hard thinking and some hefty discussions with Jin and Jungkook, she found herself at her university finalizing her withdrawal request; both males waiting for her outside for moral support. "Here is the paperwork that you should keep for your records, Chaeyoung-ssi. Just so you know, we were very glad to have you attend our university and we look forward to your return once you feel ready." The older woman handed Chaeyoung some papers neatly hidden away in a folder which she politely accepted.
"Thank you very much for your assistance. I really debated on this since I was released from the hospital. I just need some time but I will definitely be back." Chaeyoung stood from the chair she was sitting on and bowed to the woman in front of her. The older woman just nodded and waved her off with a smile. "We will gladly accept you back with open arms. Good luck out there, Chaeyoung-ssi." Chaeyoung smiled back at the woman and bowed one last time before she exited the office, sighing in relief when she saw Jin and Jungkook waiting for her with smiles on their faces.
Jin quickly approached Chaeyoung, taking the folder from her hands because he knew how clumsy she could be. "How was it in there? Everything turn out okay?" Jin asked her and she gave him a small smile. "Everything turned out great, oppa. I had assistance every step of the way and they treated me very well. They understood the reasoning behind my decision and they even refunded me the money for the semester. I gave them your account information so it should get to you within a few days." Jungkook nudged Chaeyoung with a smirk on his face, "how nice of you, Chaengmunk."
Jin's eyes practically rolled to the back of his head when Chaeyoung told him about the money. "B-but that money belongs to you!" he exclaimed, making Chaeyoung giggle as she shook her head. "I may have gotten the money from some scholarships but it's the least I could do to thank you for everything you have done for me. You were the one that encouraged me to apply for them in the first place, so I wouldn't have gotten the money without you, oppa."
Jin just shook his head, sighing since he knew he couldn't fight against her. "I'll hold onto it for you then." Chaeyoung playfully rolled her eyes before she began to walk ahead of them towards the exit of the building. Withdrawing from school was something she truly had been debating ever since she was discharged, and she was glad she got the support she needed when she decided to go through with it. It wouldn't be forever, just until she resolved her demon situation, which she hoped to be sooner than later.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as she exited the building, she heard a strange sound coming from the left side of where she was standing. She turned her head, eyes only capturing the rustled leaves of trees. She found it odd, but she quickly ignored it when Jin and Jungkook had made it out and were now beside her. "So, will you be telling that Jimin guy about leaving school?" Jungkook asked and Chaeyoung groaned because she had forgotten all about it.
Ever since the events they had shared in the hospital, Chaeyoung had been acting rather shy around Jimin. Especially because Jimin had changed within the last few days and had become a bit touchy with her and she wasn't sure how to handle it. He would hold her hand any chance he got and would even randomly kiss her cheeks, hands, nose, or forehead from time to time; never the lips though. She hadn't received a kiss from him since the one she had gotten on the terrace, just thinking about it made her face grow hot to the point of feeling her ears burning. She was still too new to anything of the sort, so she found it hard to respond to him. All she knew was that his actions made her question whether she needed to go see a cardiologist.
At one point, Seulgi had even given her advice which confused her deeply because Jimin had been her boyfriend not that long ago, but she wasn't hurting. Seulgi instead had grown closer to Jin and the two had gone on a couple of outings they deemed to be "friend get-togethers" but she was never allowed to attend which made both her and Jungkook pout. Seulgi had told Chaeyoung that what she was feeling for Jimin was romantic attraction and while Chaeyoung was aware that she was feeling something of the likes, she wasn't so positive about Jimin's feelings towards her. They never talked about anything when they met despite the skinship he always initiated. Chaeyoung believed he was just being a different form of nice. Maybe he knew about her strange feelings for him and was trying to indulge her.
She shook her head to rid herself of those thoughts when she felt her phone vibrate from her back pocket. "Hold on a sec." she told Jungkook, reaching her hand out to grab her new phone, which had been a gift from Jin, Jimin, and Seulgi once she was released from the hospital. The pace of her heart quickened when she saw the name that had come out on her phone's screen, "Park Jimin 🐶💪." She gulped down a knot of nerves before answering the phone and placing it on her ear. "H-hello? O-oppa?" Calling Jimin with the honorific of "oppa" had been something greatly desired by him so Chaeyoung had to oblige since the male was older than her. She had grown so used to calling him by "Jimin" that sometimes she would slip up, but she tried to remember since he expressed how much he enjoyed it.
"Ah, Chaeyoung! Where are you now? I just got out from visiting eomma at the hospital and was wondering if you wanted to go to the park together." Jimin's voice was cheery and Chaeyoung felt the corner of her lips twitch up to a smile. She was happy that Jimin had reconciled with his mother and was now visiting her again after a while. However, that was quickly wiped off and replaced with a frown of annoyance when she felt Jin and Jungkook press against her with their ears listening into the conversation.
She groaned and nudged them off, walking away further to speak on the phone in private. "Is everything alright? If you don't want to go the-" "No! I-I'll go! Sorry, oppa. That wasn't for you. It was that I was being annoyed by some rather childish people." She glared at their direction but Jungkook was whistling into the air and Jin was blowing air kisses at random people passing by.
Her smile quickly returned at their silly behavior and she turned her attention back on her phone when Jimin's voice spoke up. "Great! Where are you? I'll go to you and we can get there together." Jimin sounded excited and Chaeyoung was happy to hear his giddy voice. "I'm currently at the university...I'll tell you the reason when I see you." She was kind of worried over Jimin's reaction towards her decision since the first time she brought the topic up he was pretty upset. "Alright, let's meet by the entrance. I'll be there quickly." Chaeyoung could hear the worry in his tone and she chuckled, saying her goodbyes before going back to Jin and Jungkook.
"Alright guys, I'm meeting Jimin at the entrance since we will be going to the park together." Jungkook rolled his eyes and nudged Chaeyoung around playfully. "Ohhh, is this another date?" Chaeyoung's face burst into flames and Jin pulled her towards him protectively. "Leave her alone, Jungkook. They aren't dating...yet." Jin and Jungkook laughed as they teased the flushed girl. "You two are to stay the heck away from me for now! I'm leaving!" With that Chaeyoung turned around and rapidly ran to find the entrance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a couple of minutes of getting lost because she wasn't good at directions, she finally caught a glimpse of a familiar figure already waiting for her. Jimin was leaning against the wall, combing his fingers through his hair as he looked at his phone. Chaeyoung slowed down her walking, admiring Jimin from a distance. She brought her hand up to her chest, feeling her heart react to the man before her. Just seeing him standing there was enough for her heart to be full. She couldn't believe how she had managed to fall for someone in the first place. She even recalled thinking that she would be weak to fall for a guy like Jimin before but here she was now; weak but very happy to feel something that she thought she never could.
As if Jimin sensed her presence, he raised his head in time to catch her staring at him. He threw a wink in her direction along with a bright smile and some loud laughter when he saw her adorably flustered reaction. Chaeyoung huffed, walking straight past him as if she hadn't seen him. Jimin didn't feel apologetic in the least, jogging to catch up to the speedy girl. He grabbed her wrist gently, pulling her towards his body. Jimin nuzzled his head on the crook of her neck, snuggling closer to the poor girl whose knees were about to give out on her.
"Ji...I mean oppa, stop. People are starting to stare." Chaeyoung banged her small fists against his chest in an attempt to push him away but Jimin didn't budge. "Let them stare, I don't mind." Jimin was speaking in that tone he had been using recently, a mix of flirty and childish that Chaeyoung had yet to get used to. It was such a change to how he had been behaving before but she secretly enjoyed it. These actions would show anyone that Jimin clearly liked Chaeyoung, but she was the kind that needed to be told directly instead of assuming. A part of that was her insecurity but most of it was because she had watched so many dramas that she dreamed of living the "boy confessing to the girl and living happily ever after trope."
Jimin finally decided to let go of the poor girl, face beaming as he stared down at her. After Chaeyoung had been discharged from the hospital, Jimin left her alone the first week as he had reverted back to feeling guilty over Seulgi. He had been thinking of that for so long and Seulgi noticed it instantly whenever they spoke on the phone. She had asked for him to meet her and they ended up going out to eat.
"So, how's the relationship with Chaeyoung going?" Seulgi asked him as she picked at her salad. Jimin just shook his head and lowered his eyes to stare at the half-eaten sandwich in front of him. Seulgi groaned in annoyance, leaning across the table to press her index finger against Jimin's forehead. "Are you serious, Chim? I gave you such an opening and nothing has advanced?" Jimin raised his head and stared at the girl before him in disbelief. "S-Seul, we broke up not too long ago...how can I just go after Chaeyoung when I still feel guilty over falling for her while we were dating." Seulgi chuckled and rolled her eyes playfully at him. "Stop that. You aren't in control over what your heart wants. I can't blame you for that. The heart just wants what it wants." She sat back down and stretched her hands out towards him. Jimin slowly placed his hands on hers and Seulgi held onto them tightly. "You know, when we broke up, I thought it would be the end of the world. However, I quickly learned that it wasn't the end. I used to live my life revolved around you. I even chose my career because of you but after breaking up I realized that I could happily move on. I made a new friend that comforted me, and he helped me move on. You don't have to worry for me, I'm perfectly happy now. Continue on that sulky path and I won't be so happy though. Chaeyoung is a good girl, I wouldn't want you with anyone else." She squeezed his hands and gave him a bright smile to reassure him. Jimin felt like a weight had been lifted from his heart and he was now free from a cage he had put himself in.
He chuckled at the memory and Chaeyoung gazed up at him questioningly. Jimin leaned down and kissed Chaeyoung's cheek, taking one of her hands and pulling her towards a taxi nearby. During the taxi ride, Jimin kept on playing with Chaeyoung's fingers as he looked out the window with a content smile. "Pardon me, but you guys look really cute together." The taxi driver stated as she watched them from her rear-view mirror. Jimin thanked her while Chaeyoung smacked his arm in embarrassment for not correcting the lady.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They were soon dropped off and Jimin quickly rushed off to open Chaeyoung's door, earning squeals of excitement from nearby teenage girls. Chaeyoung shyly took Jimin's hand and he intertwined their fingers, leading them towards a bench that was facing a beautiful lake. "Wait here real quick, I'm going to get you something warm to drink." Chaeyoung just nodded, watching as Jimin walked away and headed towards a truck selling beverages. She hummed to herself, her hair blowing with the wind that had just picked up. She watched as kids ran around, throwing fallen leaves at each other.
She had just sat there for a while as she waited for Jimin to arrive until she heard some rustling coming from behind her. Chaeyoung instantly turned around but she couldn't see anything due to the abundance of trees. She was about to get up to investigate but a weight on her lap stopped her. She turned forward, looking down at a black bird with beady eyes staring straight at her. Chaeyoung gasped and shooed the bird away, earning a loud squawking sound to come from the bird before it flew. She shivered at the creepy event but Jimin soon came with a warm drink and an equally warm smile.
"Here you go, I got us some hot cocoa with marshmallows." He handed Chaeyoung her drink and she smiled sweetly at him. "Thank you, oppa." Jimin noticed that something was wrong and he quickly sat down close to her with his full attention offered. "What's wrong? Did something happen while I was gone?" Chaeyoung sighed, "don't worry, it was just a bird that landed on my lap but it flew away." Jimin sighed in relief and pinched Chaeyoung's right chipmunk cheek. "Cutie, I'll protect you from the birds." Chaeyoung looked away, her face once again blazing hot. "S-stop that! I'm n-not cute!" she mumbled.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I understand, Chaeyoung. You didn't have to worry about my reaction regarding your decision. When you first told me, I was upset that I wouldn't see you in class anymore but I see you practically everyday anyways. Regardless of that, I would have given you my support one hundred percent." Chaeyoung bit her bottom lip and placed her head on Jimin's shoulder, sighing in content. She clasped his hand tightly in hers to subtly show him how happy she was. Jimin chuckled, leaning his head against hers. They both remained in a comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's company.
At least until some more black birds arrived at their feet, startling the youngsters. "More birds? What's up with this?" Chaeyoung moved her legs to shoo the birds away but they didn't budge and just stared at her. "Maybe they are starting to migrate since winter is coming. Strange that they aren't afraid of us though. Maybe we should leave." Jimin got up and grabbed Chaeyoung's hand to lead her away from the creepy birds with the beady eyes that followed their every move.
"What the heck is happening?!" Jimin shouted as a mass amount of birds began to chase them. Chaeyoung was having a bit of a panic attack, suddenly tripping over her own feet. The people around were screaming and running away when they saw the crows lower to the ground. Jimin turned around, eyes widening when he saw Chaeyoung on the floor. "Chaeyoung!" he screamed. Chaeyoung was being held down by something coming through the pavement and she cried as she couldn't move her body. Her eyes went upwards and she yelped when a bird came swooping down, pecking her coat before some more came following after. Jimin swatted his arms, hissing when birds began to peck him as well. He grunted as he lifted Chaeyoung up, running with her to the only safe place he could think of.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jimin rapidly closed the door, breathing heavily from all the running they had done. "Jimin!" Chaeyoung shouted and she instantly fell to the ground when she heard birds smacking onto the windows. Jimin bit his lip, rushing to close the curtains to all the windows then huddling next to Chaeyoung to hold onto her protectively. "Calm down, Chaeyoung. Everything is going to be okay." They waited for a couple of minutes until everything suddenly died down. Jimin was the first to raise up from the ground, heading towards a window. His window had cracked from the impacts it had received, he noticed black specks all around the pavement street below that he figured were the birds that had been throwing themselves at them. What the heck?
Chaeyoung was whimpering, rocking her body as she attempted to calm herself down. Jimin went back to her and held her in his arms, stroking her head as he sang softly to her. Chaeyoung's body lost its tension and instantly melted into his embrace, breathing normally now that she was feeling better. "Everything has seemed to have stopped. It's alright now, Chaeyoung. I'm here." Chaeyoung nodded, nuzzling her head on his chest. "T-that might have been an attack from the demon again. Something held me down so I couldn't move. Maybe it was controlling those birds too. Jimin, I can't go home now..."
"Don't worry, I'll call Jin hyung and let him know what happened...you can s-stay with me tonight." Jimin stuttered towards the end as he realized that Chaeyoung would be staying over at his apartment; it would be the first time the girl even visited. Chaeyoung was so scared of what had happened that she wasn't even aware that they were in Jimin's apartment in the first place, so her cheeks blushed furiously at his statement. She was feeling shy again, but she really didn't want to go outside in fear that the previous event would get repeated. "Thank you...I'll be s-staying over then." Both people's hearts were pounding loudly against their chests and the running they had done was not the real reason for it.
