Chapter 18

Seulgi was about to pass by the area where Chaeyoung was previously sitting and she would have just passed by if it wasn't for a familiar guy who was under the seats trying to find something. Seulgi smiled to herself, wiping at her tears and clearing her throat before she approached the man. "Jin-ssi?" she quietly asked, startling Jin and making him bump his head under a seat he was currently under. Seulgi gasped and instantly helped him stand while he rubbed his head in pain. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to startle you. Are you alright, Jin-ssi?" Jin instantly recognized the voice and looked down to see Seulgi staring at him with worry visible in her swollen eyes. He chuckled and nodded his head, "don't worry, I'm alright. Just a bump, so nothing major to worry about. Glad it wasn't my face though. It's too precious." He joked, making Jungkook who was standing nearby gag and Seulgi crack a wholehearted laugh.

"Seulgi-ssi, was it?" he asked, scratching the back of his neck as he recalled the scene they had witnessed back on the terrace. Seulgi nodded, "yes, please just call me Seulgi. It's nice to see you again, Jin-ssi." She bowed to him, making Jin smile widely. "You can call me Jin oppa then since you are my precious Jiminie's girlfriend!" He enthusiastically suggested once again making Jungkook gag at Jin's liking towards being called "oppa" by everyone. Seulgi was caught off guard by his friendliness and the fact that he had mentioned her being Jimin's girlfriend, which she wasn't anymore. Regardless of how much her heart hurt at the moment she still nodded at him with a smile. "You disgust me, hyung." Jungkook whispered, earning a wicked side glare from Jin.

"I-if I may ask, what were you looking for exactly? I was on my way out but I can help you find your lost item if you would like." With Seulgi's words Jin instantly remembered what he had been looking for or who he was looking for to be exact. Jungkook rolled his eyes at Jin's next words, face palming himself at the ridiculousness. "Chaeyoung! I was looking for Chaeyoung!" Seulgi raised an eyebrow in confusion, tilting her head towards the seats behind him and then staring back at Jin again. "I don't think Chaeyoung is small enough to not be seen if she were under the seats..." "I told you, hyung. You were being weird again." Jungkook muttered and Jin just laughed, slapping his knees in an exaggerated gesture. "You're right! I guess I was just too frantic I forgot my common sense and began looking in strange places." He stated sheepishly but Seulgi laughed softly at his words.

"Don't worry, Jin o-oppa. Umm...Chaeyoung is currently outside at the terrace with Jimin." Jin and Jungkook both widened their eyes at her statement. "WHAT?!" he shouted, earning him a few shushes and glares from the others around. He just bowed in apology and turned his attention back to Seulgi. "Why is she with him right now? She was feeling upset and said she would stay sitting down while I went to go get her something warm to drink." Jungkook groaned in frustration and rubbed his temples. "That Chaeyoung is unstoppable. I knew I should have stayed with her. Curse my weakness for those eyes of hers!" Jin glanced at Jungkook for a second only to turn when Seulgi spoke up with a subtle distressed tone. "J-Jimin and Chaeyoung have some things to solve. I think it would be best if they get their problems sorted as soon as possible. I-I may have dragged her to h-him."

Jin and Jungkook stared in silence at the girl in front of them that was trying her best to hold in her tears. She had been so cheery that they had forgotten how her eyes were swollen from crying as the dried tear marks on her cheeks gave her away or that her voice was trembling as if she was holding back. Jin sighed, not exactly sure why she was so upset but he couldn't help himself as he muttered a quick apology and pulled her into a comforting embrace. Seulgi was shocked at first but quickly adjusted into his arms as she silently let the tears she had been holding in front of him go.

Chaeyoung remained in Jimin's arms for a few seconds more before finally coming to her senses and moving away from him. Her heart was pounding like crazy and it became unbearable when Jimin reached out and brought her close to him once again. Chaeyoung remained still, unsure of what exactly she should be doing at the moment. She didn't feel like it was her place to be in Jimin's arms at the moment and she couldn't tell what he was thinking either. Jimin was confused as to how he should be feeling. He didn't know what emotion was appropriate and he was a mess but having Chaeyoung in his arms made him feel at ease if only a little. He had a hand on the back of her head that was stroking her hair while his other hand was located on her back, holding her in place as he felt if he were to let go that she would run away from him.

After a moment of silence between the two, Jimin decided to speak up first, noticing Chaeyoung's distress through the stillness of her body. In an attempt to make her relax he whispered as gently as he could into her ear. "S-stay with me, Chaeyoung. Please don't run away and leave me alone. I-I need some company right now." His voice was nothing but desperate and although she wasn't sure what was going on her instinct was to relax and hug him tight. She brought her hands to his upper back, almost to his shoulders. Her face rested beside his neck, sending chills down Jimin's spine with each breath she took. Jimin was holding onto Chaeyoung as if she was the last person he had in the world. He was trembling as he attempted to hold in his tears but a soft humming melody coming from Chaeyoung made him lose it and he ended up breaking down in an instant.

Chaeyoung just did what Jin and Jungkook used to do to her when she was feeling down; she hummed a soft melody, raising a hand to gently stroke his hair. She continued her humming, slowly pulling Jimin down until they had slid with her back against the half-wall bellow the railing and Jimin still clutched onto her with his head on her shoulder.

"This is the first time I have become someone's shoulder to cry on..." she quietly started once Jimin began to calm down. "I've depended so much on Jin oppa and Jungkook that I never realized they never once depended on me. Even when Jin oppa was at his worst, he played the role of a tough guy and put his feelings aside to address my own. Oppa and Jungkook would do this exact thing that I was just doing to you. They would hum while stroking my hair and it would calm me down immensely. It was as if I was a baby being hummed a lullaby by a caring parent..."

Jimin hiccupped and sniffled as his tears came to a stop. He moved away after hearing Chaeyoung's words, "would? Why did they stop?" Chaeyoung gave him a sad smile, lowering her head after she averted her vision. "I blew up on them one day. As I would usually do when I thought the whole world was against me. They tried to calm me down using that method but I furiously pushed them away and told them I hated it. Ever since then, neither of them did it ever again. I craved it at times, but I never found the courage to ask them to comfort me like that and they never attempted it either." Jimin could feel the sadness and regret radiating off of her so he returned the previous favor, pulling her to his chest as he leaned his back against the wall. He hummed soothingly as he stroked her hair and Chaeyoung bit her bottom lip, closing her eyes and relaxing her body. She could hear the beating of his heart and it soothed her further as she felt her heart beating in rhythm with his.

She sighed, her eyes widening and heart dropping when she felt she was getting too comfortable in his arms and too intoxicated by his scent. Her body tensed and she moved away from him, her back now against the wall and an awkward silence filling the terrace now that his humming had abruptly stopped. She could feel the heat in her body rising so high she could do away with Jin's coat and embrace the weather without it. Jimin was confused to say the least; one moment she was curling into him as he comforted her and the next she had curled into herself while hiding her face. "Chaeyoung? D-did I do something wrong?" he whispered, reaching his hand out to touch her. She jumped at his touch, looking at him with a distressed expression that made him even more confused. "Are you okay?" he asked but Chaeyoung just silently stared at him.

I can't do this. She thought to herself. I start to act strange when I get too comfortable and it hurts. It feels wrong. She sighs again, putting on a smile for him. "D-don't worry, I'm okay. It's just that I was letting myself get carried away when you were the one in need of comforting." Jimin doesn't even think twice before blurting out, "I like it when you get carried away." Once he saw Chaeyoung's shocked reaction he realized what he had said and instant embarrassment and regret came in. Chaeyoung chuckled awkwardly, "we should go inside, Jimin. I think the cold is getting to both of our heads. We can continue our conversation in a warmer environment."

Jimin could hear her getting up but before she could fully stand up he grabbed her wrist and pulled her down onto him. Chaeyoung let out a yelp as she landed on top of Jimin who was now sprawled on the floor below her. They remained there for just a couple of minutes before moving away from each other when they realized they were too close. There was another awkward silence as they sat apart from each other. Jimin, who was unhappy with the idea of Chaeyoung leaving, reached out his hand to grab the hem of the coat Chaeyoung was wearing and pulled her closer to him. Chaeyoung let out a soft gasp as Jimin pulled her to his side. She turned to look at him but he had his head lowered down although a visible pout on his lips was visible. Chaeyoung adjusted herself by his side, pulling her knees up and hugging them with her arms. She could still feel Jimin's hand grasping the hem of Jin's coat but she didn't question him about it.

Jimin finally decided to speak earning Chaeyoung's full attention, "can I ask you a question, Chaeyoung?" he asked in a soft voice. Chaeyoung nodded in response but since he wasn't looking she muttered a gentle yes. "Can I burden you for a bit?" He turned to look at Chaeyoung who was confused at his question. "I don't want to go back inside right now. I don't want to be alone either. Too much has happened and it would be too suffocating to go in right now. I have never wanted to be a burden to anyone before but my heart is telling me that it wants to pour itself out to you and I can't say no. I feel embarrassed and you might think differently of me because of this. You have already seen me cry as not many have experienced that, however, I want to burden you even more and give you all I've got. I won't be the cool, positive, and beautiful angel you know me as. Will that be okay?" His eyes were boring into Chaeyoung's who was smiling at him and it made his heart skip a beat and the butterflies in his stomach flutter around crazily.

"Burden me all you want, Jimin. I want to see the human you not the perfect you I have seen thus far. Having you lean on me as you cried before was something that left me in awe. It didn't make you weak and uncool in my eyes. It made you amazingly cool and human. I also have things I have to explain to you. So, will it be okay if I burden you too?" Jimin smiled brightly and it made Chaeyoung's heart warm at the sight. She hadn't seen him smile like that in so long and she definitely missed it. "Let's burden each other then." Jimin said with a chuckle and Chaeyoung laughed, "yes, let's do that."

Jimin chuckled, his cheeks hurting from how much he was smiling. His smile soon faded when he recalled the fact that Chaeyoung had fainted and gone into a state of shock but now she was outside in the cold because of him. "Chaeyoung!" He placed his hands on her shoulders, startling Chaeyoung in the process. "W-what's wrong?" she stuttered, her eyes wide as she tried to comprehend his sudden outburst. "A-are you okay now? I'm sorry for being a complete insensitive idiot and forgetting that you literally fainted and fell into shock. Is it safe for you to be out here? Let's go inside!" Jimin was speaking so frantically that Chaeyoung had trouble understanding him at first. She put a gentle hand on Jimin's arm once he began to get up and laughed at his worry. "Don't worry, Jimin. I'm feeling fine." she reassured him and Jimin just nodded although he wasn't believing her much. "Are you sure? You aren't too cold, are you? If you are then please let me know." Chaeyoung just rolled her eyes at him. "I'm okay. Being tucked away like this makes it warm enough for me. Jin oppa's coat is really warm too."

Jimin took a look at the coat she was wearing and pouted as he realized how adorable she looked wearing Jin's oversized coat that hung extremely loosely on her body. His body frame wasn't as big as Jin's so he wondered how exactly his clothing would look like on her. He snapped himself out of those inappropriate thoughts he would have at times and looked down. "If you say you aren't cold then okay. It's just that your nose and cheeks are so red that I thought you were freezing." Chaeyoung had to admit that she was feeling a tad bit chilly but she just shook her head at Jimin.

"I just have sensitive skin. I tend to redden easily." Jimin noticed Chaeyoung attempting to keep her hands warm so he grabbed them gently, bringing them closely to his mouth before he blew warm breath onto them. He carefully held her hands in his as he tried to warm them up, causing Chaeyoung to flush red at his caring action. She couldn't keep her eyes away from him and with each second her heart would pound harder and harder that she thought she was going die. This man will be the death of me.

"Are you warm now?" Jimin suddenly asked and turned to Chaeyoung when she didn't respond. He blushed when he noticed her looking at him with awe, her eyes wide, rosy cheeks, and lips apart as she stared at him. "A-are you warm, Chaeyoung?" he asked again, finally snapping her out of her trance. She just nodded, looking down immediately in shame for acting like a creep. "T-thank you. I'm warm now." She quickly managed, earning a gentle smile from Jimin in return.

Jimin then sighed as he looked up at the sky, holding one of her hands in his as he began to speak. "You know...I really do appreciate that you stayed even though it was probably against your will. I don't know why Seulgi did that. Today I lost yet another person from my life. I have always tried so hard to make everyone like me but they had never been anything serious in my life. Just people who enjoyed depending on me but it was I that depended on them the most. I thrive on being a friend of many and to help them with whatever it is that they could possibly need. Some people think that I am a freak or that I am overly friendly but I didn't have another way to live." Chaeyoung just remained silent as she listened to him with all of her attention.

"Seulgi was the first person who I decided to commit myself fully to. She is someone who I admire. Someone that I one day hoped I could be like. She's so carefree and effortlessly outgoing that I kept my eye on her for a long time. She was shy when it came to me though, everyone had said that she was interested in me so I made the first move and asked her out. However, that all ended today...she broke up with me in the end because I was too careless. We ended up drifting apart because of me and I feel so sorry towards her. I wasn't good enough and if only I would have tried harder then this wouldn't have happened..." Jimin's voice was low and Chaeyoung could hear the struggle in his tone as he said every word. She could tell how hard this was for him and it pained her.

"I don't know how much my words will comfort you but if I am being honest...I believe that trying too hard is what you do wrong. You shouldn't try too hard to the point of forcing yourself to do something. I'll be honest and say that you were annoying when I first met you. You came off too strong and sorry...this is probably not helping." Chaeyoung pressed her lips together in shame but Jimin just laughed at her statements. He laughed so hard that tears began to fall from his eyes and he clutched his stomach in pain. "You are too honest for your own good, Chaeyoung. That is one of the things I like about you. You say what you mean in the best way. You don't have to think twice and while you might regret your words afterwards it is the fact that you just say them in the first place that I really like." Chaeyoung pouted but she couldn't help the smile from forming on her face after seeing Jimin's smile. "I wish you could smile like that forever." she blurted, making Jimin pause and her eyes widen in realization. "Just like that!" he hollered, pulling her into a hug. "Thank you so much, Chaeyoung. I definitely feel better right now."

Chaeyoung just chuckled and returned his hug, sighing in relief that he was becoming brighter after looking so somber. "You just have to act like you are doing right now. This Jimin right now is the one that I like the best. The human one that smiles, laughs, cries, and doesn't think about how to please others all the time. I can tell that you are a good person and a part of you is just that generous that you want to be helping people but not all of you wants that. The other part of you wants to live for yourself and enjoy life. That part of you just hasn't come out of its shell yet. Live your life like an actual normal person, Jimin."

Jimin snorted at Chaeyoung's advice, "I would have never thought I would be getting advice from the very person who couldn't stand looking at my face for more than a few seconds. I'm glad you aren't closed off with me anymore. Thank you for allowing me to come into your heart, Chaeyoung." With those words Chaeyoung panicked and gently pushed him away from her. "W-what do you mean by that?" she stammered, face a complete tomato. Jimin raised an eyebrow in confusion, "I meant that I'm happy you allowed me to be friends with you. You opened up to me and I'm grateful. What did you think I meant?" "I wasn't thinking anything!" She quickly responded and Jimin just chuckled.

"By the way, how is your eomeoni?" Chaeyoung didn't have the best experience when she spoke with her, but it wasn't his mother's fault as she had warned Chaeyoung before she began to speak. Jimin frowned and a long sigh escaped his lips, making Chaeyoung instantly regret her question as it changed their bubbly atmosphere they had going on. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset." Jimin turned to Chaeyoung and smiled at her, "it's alright. Let's not leave anything unsaid today, alright? I said I would be a burden to you and give you all I've got, remember? Just know that while what I am about to say may sound incredulous please listen until the end." His expression was dead serious and Chaeyoung couldn't help but gulp at the intensity. I should be the one saying that to you once you hear what I have to say. She thought to herself.
