Chapter 10

Chaeyoung had arrived back to school after a never-ending weekend of teasing, courtesy of Jungkook, and she was nervous to bump into a certain someone now that she was back. "You look like an idiot, Chae. Why must you press yourself against a wall with your arms spread out? That doesn't make you invisible you know." Jungkook chuckled, staring at Chaeyoung as she attempted a ridiculous stealth mission to get to her class without bumping into Jimin.

"Shut up, jerk." she growled, inching closer to the edge of the wall and slowly sticking her head out to make sure Jimin was nowhere in sight. Jungkook couldn't hold back his laughter as he rolled over from watching her antics. Chaeyoung ignored her idiot friend and continued watching the halls as people passed by trying to get to their respective classes. "Uh, pasta?" Chaeyoung rolled her eyes and remained in her position. "Chae-" Jungkook attempted to call her but was cut off.

"I said shut up, you idi-" she turned her head to yell at Jungkook but her face paled and her eyes widened in shock when she came face to face with a confused yet amused Jimin. He was standing right in front of her, grasping onto the straps of his backpack with a wide smile on his face. Jungkook was stood behind him, shrugging his shoulders at her direction and looking at her with a smug expression. Chaeyoung was choking him in her mind but she would think about that later since she had a bigger issue in front of her.

"I haven't said anything yet...what a strange position, Chaeyoung-ssi." He chuckled, "what are you doing pressed against that wall?" He still had a smile on his face but an eyebrow raised in a questioning gesture. Chaeyoung swallowed hard and instantly removed herself from the wall, flustered with his presence. "Nothing! I'm not doing anything! Definitely not making sure you weren't in the halls!" She gasped when she realized what she had just blurted out and turned to the wall, knocking her head against it softly until she was held back and turned around. She felt her cheeks heat up when Jimin's face came extremely close to hers. He rubbed her forehead with his thumb, giving her a soft smile.

"Pretty girls shouldn't knock their heads against the wall, Chaeyoung-ssi." He put some distance between them and watched Chaeyoung as she bit her bottom lip and averted her gaze from him and onto the floor. Jungkook was fuming in the background, "pretty girls shouldn't knock their heads against the wall" he mimicked in a high-pitched voice. "Wow, who does this guy think he is?" Jungkook huffed and pulled Chaeyoung's sweater lightly to let her know they had to leave.

Jimin continued staring at Chaeyoung silently until he noticed tiny marks and fading bruises on her neck that were peeking out from her turtleneck sweater. He reached his hand out again and lightly touched her neck, which caused Chaeyoung to look at him and freeze. "What happened to your neck?" She bit her lip harshly for being so careless and gently removed his hand from her neck, keeping a hold on his hand tightly without realizing. "I-it's nothing. I fell on something that caused a few cuts and I bruise easily. I-I have to go to class now, goodbye sunbaenim." She rushed away from him and Jungkook followed after her.

Jimin looked down at the hand she held tightly before and clenched his fist. "Once again, I am left in confusion, Park Chaeyoung-ssi." he muttered. "You tell me one thing but your actions tell me something else." He sighed and removed his backpack and held it in front of him to stare at a specific something that was hanging on the side. His smile returned as he stared at the keychain.

Once Chaeyoung made it to her classroom, she sighed in relief as soon as her bum made contact with a chair. "I tugged your sweater so we could leave but you didn't notice me." Jungkook stood at her right side and shrugged his shoulders again when she gave him a look of surprise. "I honestly didn't feel anything. It was as if I was in a trance." She turned away and looked to the front where people were crowding the tables and getting into their friend groups while she remained alone at the back.

She hadn't been to her guitar class in the beginning due to the perverted ghost that had attacked her on her first day and then she had missed on her own because she was preparing her apology gift to Jimin. Due to her absence, she had lost the opportunity to get to know her classmates, causing her to become the outcast of the class. She didn't mind though, she had been an outcast for most of her life until she met Jungkook and Jin that is.

"It seems you are always in a trance when you meet him. Might as well let go of your 'I don't want to hurt anyone else' act and just let him in like you've unconsciously been doing." Jungkook didn't know what had gotten into him all of a sudden. He felt heavy and dark and he couldn't control what he was saying. Chaeyoung turned back to him in an instant with narrowed eyes, "excuse me? What do you mean let go of my act?"

Jungkook was biting his lip in an attempt to stop himself but it was impossible and he couldn't stop his mouth. "Stop acting like you don't know what I'm talking about. You keep saying that you don't want to befriend that Jimin guy because you don't want to involve him in your mess but every time you see him you practically throw yourself at him." Chaeyoung's narrowed eyes softened and turned into a sad look as she stared at him in disbelief. "Jungkook, why are you acting this way? What's wrong?"

He chuckled darkly, a smirk forming on his lips. "Oh please, you just never take the time to pay attention to me because you are drooling over that guy. What's so good about him anyways? If he knew that you attract scary ghosts and even a freaking demon he wouldn't be so pinned on helping you and would run away in a second. Someone protected him from everything you actually attract. Do you think that person would want you around him? Ha!"

She wasn't sure why he was suddenly acting like this but his words struck her. She had to admit that she was getting soft and she needed to stop. Jimin had a habit of helping people, as she had been told, so he probably thought she was some sort of charity case. If he knew what she was actually troubled by he would forget all about her; at least that is what she wanted to believe. Based on his character, she felt like he would be the kind to foolishly put himself in the line of danger without caring about anything and that is what scared her most. He would act just like Jungkook and she didn't want that to happen again.

Chaeyoung looked at Jungkook again and gasped when she saw dark smoke lifting itself away from Jungkook's body and into thin air. Jungkook became transparent and collapsed onto the floor, where he began to sink into it. Chaeyoung looked at the front and noticed that no one was paying attention but were now chatting amongst themselves, which was good for Chaeyoung to get off her chair and kneel down by Jungkook's side. She tried to touch him but panicked when her hand went straight through him. She moved away and curled herself under the table as she watched Jungkook slowly regain his color again, looking more normal.

"C-Chae, I'm sorry. I don't know what happened. I started saying all those things so suddenly without being able to stop." He was no longer sinking and looked solid once again, slowly approaching her. She uncurled herself and sighed in relief as she wrapped her arms around his chest and crushed him in a hug. "Thank goodness, I thought you were leaving me for good." Jungkook chuckled and shook his head as he hugged her back. "No, I'm okay now but I felt so heavy and dark. Like if something had po-" "Possessed you?" Chaeyoung finished and Jungkook nodded.

"Can a ghost be possessed by another ghost?" He asked, pulling away from her. She shrugged her shoulders, "I'm not sure but I saw dark smoke leaving your body before you collapsed." "Well I never want to experience that again. That was scary and I'm a ghost." He laughed for a short while before his face turned serious. "I'm sorry if anything that I said hurt you, Chaeyoung. I didn't mean it." She smiled softly at him before getting out from under the table.

"Don't worry, I'm okay." She sat back down on her chair and despite saying she was okay some of his words spoke truth. He might have wanted to say some of those things but it turned out more negative due to the dark smoke. "I think you are right and that I'm softening up to Jimin sunbaenim. Jin oppa wanted me to befriend him so that I could get help from the person who gave him a protective barrier, but if anyone went to that much trouble for him then they wouldn't want me messing with that and bringing him more danger."

Jungkook didn't know why he didn't feel happy with her saying that she wanted to distance herself fromJimin again. He hadn't liked the fact that she was getting close to some guy that she had met so recently but he didn't feel happy at all with this either. Maybe it was the fact that she looked like she wanted to cry saying that herself after having looked so happy during the weekend when he forgave her. "Don't say that, Chae. Jin hyung is right when he said that Jimin guy can be a big help. He's already helped you so much." He couldn't believe he was helping that Jimin guy out by convincing Chaeyoung to give him a chance but here he was. Even Chaeyoung herself was shocked so she looked at him, her face seeming brighter and she even laughed a little.

"Wow, such a man, Kookie. Never expected that from you." He rolled his eyes and nudged her shoulder with his hand. "Shut up, chipmunk." Chaeyoung sighed and looked to the front again. "I don't know why but I want to forever see his face happy. Is it strange? I'm not sure why but this is the main reason why I can't fulfill your wishes. I know he's a good person, that I am sure, but he has such a pure spirit. I don't want to be the one to taint him. Every person has their weakness too. I'm sure there is something he wishes to protect and I don't want to get in the way of that. Right now, he sees me as someone who he is curious about. I'm sure I leave him confused and that makes him determined to want to know me and want to understand my situation but no matter how close he is willing to get I can't allow him to be involved in those matters. It's been a while since I saw someone with a smile as genuine as his, I really don't want to erase that."

Jungkook frowned and shook his head. "One of these days that will bite you in the butt you know." She chuckled and nodded her head, "I know but you know me better than anyone.Do you think I would survive if another person I have come to care about dies? Not this time, Jungkook. I need to focus on protecting the people who have helped me through everything so far. I might have not been able to save you but now I have Jin oppa to protect and you to hold dear to. If the demon doesn't kill me then losing you both for good will."

Once she finished speaking she remained quiet for a bit until she raised her head when an idea came to her mind. "I know I've been saying that I don't want him to get involved in my mess and experience what I have been experiencing but what if doing just that will scare him away?" She raised her head in Jungkook's direction and he stared at her confused, "what do you mean?" "I mean that maybe I will allow him to hang around me for a bit, make him feel like he can finally relax around me. I'm sure that something will happen and once he sees the strange accidents I have been involved in he will run away and leave me on his own. What do you think?" She was serious and Jungkook could tell but he couldn't take that seriously at all.

"Are you kidding me, Chaeyoung-ah? That's so stupid. That'll just encourage him to help you even more." She sighed and nodded, "yeah, you have a point there. I guess I just have to be as neutral as possible then. Not seem too friendly but not be the jerk I was either. I've already become acquaintances with him. There is no turning back now unless he leaves me himself."

"You know that isn't going to happen, right?" Jungkook asked her. "Yeah, I know but there isn't anything wrong in wishing." She replied, not looking at him anymore and actually focusing on her lesson that she had ignored for literally the whole period. "You should be careful what you wish for, Chaeng. That Jimin guy ever leaving you will affect you much more than you would like to admit. You wanted to cry just thinking about it earlier, you dummy. Jin hyung was right, you really are too dense." Jungkook stared at her with a sad smile as he whispered his words quietly enough for her not to hear him.
