Chapter 21: Broken Curse

He loves you, but how is that even possible with someone as unlikable as you?

You even killed him, how sad is that?

You were the reason he died.

I can only possess the weak. What does that say about you?

I'm only human. And I'm a victim, and so is he. You are what killed us.

You aren't even dead.

Than why aren't I breathing?

...

....

...

...

...

"You are breathing. It's just slow."

"It's not my air."

"What do you even mean?"

"These aren't my lungs."

"They are your lungs."

"No...not anymore at least..."

"They are yours. He's breathing for you, as annoying as it is."

"Why don't you just kill me if that's what you want."

"Because I don't want you dead. Where's the fun in that? I want you broken and in shambles before that even crosses my mind, human."

"I'm already broken."

"You don't even know the meaning of the work broken. Not yet at least."

"Why don't you just kill me...?"

"It's not fun."

"No...death is fun for many. I used to think if death as a fun form of release."

"A coward's escape."

"You can't kill me...can you?"

"It wouldn't be hard to just stop your heart."

"I felt your pain when Lewis burned off my old arm. You...when he tried to kill you."

"What of it? You are really starting to annoy me."

"If I die you die. That's the hitch isn't it? What if I come back...? You just might as well, but you'd be inside another paranormal being... I'd eat you whole~."

Twisted, his desires became twisted, and on the outside his unmoving, body smiled softly, a smile that was not a smile of relief or happiness.

A smile of a deadman.

Mystery watched his body with tense and tired shoulders, tails having finished patting out the flames, his mouth holding Lewis's locket protectively, his bite gentle and unharmful to the item in his possession. His eyes watched as half of the body went pink, and the other half went Green. Lewis seemed to be winning his battle, but he couldn't tell.

This was different. Very different. Both invasive parties were at a stand still, not even struggling. They were seemingly frozen and the phantom limb had ceased, leaving only his actual flesh and blood arm. He was bitten up and bloodied, his wound was singed, and smelled of cooked flesh.

He looked exhausted.

"Mystery!" Shiromori called from upstairs. "Why's it so quiet down there?"

"Is Arthur and Lewis okay!?" Vivi shouted, sounding farther off, still in her room.

"..." Mystery winced to himself and sighed, dropping the locket on one of his many tails before looking behind him and at the staircase hidden behind a wall of burnt spikes. "Lewis possessed him! Arthur became unresponsive on the floor! He's fine though!" Mystery hollered back.

"UNRESPONSIVE!?" Vivi screamed.

"Oi! My eardrums! I need em ya fuckin banshee!" Shiromori could be heard griping. "Is he breathing?" Shiromori called.

"I literally just said he was fine! There isn't any fire! You both can come down here, just mind the spikes!" Mystery howled before moving head over, only to completely freeze.

Arthur was an inch away from Mystery, staring down his snout and right at his eyes with a look of seriousness. They weren't pink, more green, both of them being brown and almost completely lucid despite his trembling body.

They lacked fear and pain and the majority of emotion.

Even life.

"Mystery..." Arthur spoke through a rasped and scratched our voice that sounded nothing like him.

"Take it easy Arthur, you are very battered, which I'm sorry for." Mystery whined softly and made Arthur sit back down. "It and Lewis, where are they?"

Arthur blinked and looked down at his arm, and almost laughed at the bite marks on it. They weren't deep, but it still got a chuckle out of him. "They are somewhere in my head. My head feels very heavy now that the both of them are clashing. I just woke up from a terrible dream." Arthur whispered the last part. "Terrible."

"What kind of dream?" Mystery laid down, hearing footsteps that Arthur didn't even acknowledge from the staircase.

"Memories. Strange memories that seem so long ago." Arthur's voice shifted through his sentence. "Two years ago, in that cave. He was dead, but hugging me. Telling me there was nothing to be afraid off. And another one, large...telling me to come and surrender to him. I couldn't trust either of them, so I pushed them both back of the ledge. I killed them willingly. With my bear hand." Arthur looked down at his hand.

"Killed them?" Mystery felt a jolt.

"I leapt and followed them to the bed of spikes, but I woke up here instead if there." Arthur whispered. "I can't...feel...much now. It's so clouded." Arthur hummed and hugged his knees to his chest.

"You are superessing the both of them." Mystery sighed softly and licked his forehead free of dirt and ashes, hearing Vivi's panicked voice and wailing. "You should relax and give into it. It's all you can do. Here...this is Lewis's locket." Mystery held the locket to Arthur, who took it with a light hold and held it to his chest. "Give into them, but go to the one drawing from the locket. That's Lewis. Once you do that, he'll eat the think from you. It's weak. More weak than you can imagine. You are only letting him win by thinking he has a power over you. It's how you woke up, you believed you had the power over it."

"I do. If I die he dies. And if I come back, I'll merge and become one being...he will die. I hold power...." Arthur whispered.

"You aren't going to die." Mystery frowned heavily.

"I feel like I'm dying. I'm not breathing." Arthur mumbled.

"You are. You're probably numb." Mystery sighed softly and licked his face clean of blood and dirt.

"WHERE'S HIS ARM!?" Vivi screamed from down the hall, but Mystery tuned her out, and Arthur didn't even hear her.

"That is a good word for it." Arthur nodded and looked down at himself. "I look like shit." He weakly chuckled.

"That you do." Mystery snickered lightly. "The quicker you rest the faster you can get into a shower."

Arthur looked over at Mystery and smiled softly, before he slowly faded away, going back into a dark void, that bloomed with very bright flashing lights and green and magenta hazed memories.

His eyes landed on a magenta memory, if him and Lewis kissing. He slowly bent down and kissed the memory, completely letting his mind go blank.

He felt the pull from the locket...and surrendered.

"There you are..."

"Here I am...please...just end this Lew."

"Of course."

......

...

....

..

...

Mystery watched closely, ignoring Vivi's frantic crying and Shiromori's complaining. He wanted to do more, but was unable to, his soul far too hurt to handle much of anything. Arthur in the state that he was, was already ripping his soul to pieces. He watched as pink started to slowly swallow the green, and hope blossomed as the mansion began to heal itself, scotch marks and marred walls repairing as if healing, slowly returning to normal.

The spikes blinking the two crumbling to dust, before that too vanished and became nothing.

Shiromori carried Vivi over, setting her down beside the dog, watching as Vivi hugged the hell out of the injured wolf. Shiromori hung back, but her worry was evident on her visage, her face twisted in disgust and instantly shot Arthur a very angered and hopeless look, knowing she couldn't do a damn thing to help.

"Oh my God! Oh my God...!" Vivi sobbed into Mystery's pelt.

"Shhhh..." Mystery spoke softly, tails gently wrapping around her in comfort.

His eyes looked through his glasses and at Shiromori, to find a hint of jealousy in her stare that amused him. He then wrapped a tail around her waist and gently led her against him. Shiromori tensed and flinched even when she was pushed against the dog, but eventually she calmed and wrapped her huge arms around the both of them, sighing into the fur, closing her tired eyes.

Vivi whimpered and curled up, letting Mystery hold her feet still for her, her watery eyes landing on the battered Arthur.

"H-He l-looks dead." Vivi whined, trembling freezing the ground beneath her.

"He'll be okay. The pink color is Lewis. He's eating the demon. Lewis is winning and Arthur is clinging to the locket as a form of stabilisation. It's what he needed." Mystery hummed.

"I th-thought this would be l-less of a-a-a mess." Vivi shook her head, watching the pink envelope Arthur like a comforting blanket.

"I did too...it was stronger than I thought it would be." Mystery quietly admitted to himself as he gazed over his own wounds. "I bit him...a lot...I don't think he's going to want to be anywhere near me after this blows over. Once he is fully him, with no one inside his head, he's gonna be able to recall everything perfectly."

As Mystery hung his head in shame and pain, Shiromori bent forwards and leaned close to his ear, before planting a soft kiss right by it.

"You couldn't help it..." She hummed softly, petting his fur.

Mystery whined softly like a dog before laying his head down in his paws, letting the other two hug him to calm themselves as well as him. He huffed through his nose and watched Arthur's body twitch here and there, face wincing with pain every so often.

...

...

...

He was safe. Safe in the arms of someone when could trust fully, me. I consumed and consumed so much, feeling my soul burn with more and more power. I felt strongly tied to him, as if he were literally holding me soul. I think he was. I can feel my locket in his hands.

I don't mind it much.

Lewis looked down at the small sliver that was left of the green invader, his killer, and an odd sense of peace came over him, but he still felt glued to the earth through Arthur, his new goal was to give Arthur a happy life. A good relationship.

He wouldn't move on, nor will he ever so long as Arthur is here with him.

This gave him a sense of peace. A nice one that made him feel freed of any walls, sending a shockingly strong pulse if magenta through the entire mansion.

"You will never be able to fully get rid of me. I've permanently burned myself into his head. For as long as he lives and exists Kingsman will forever suffer. That alone gives me closure." The green sliver growled. "My own personal revenge for being torn off my path."

Lewis stared down at it and growled menacingly, smirking in victory. His eyes glazed over with a bloodlust, and his pure essence surrounded him. He held Arthur part of mind close, and swallowed everything else whole.

The feeling of someone dying by his hand sated Lewis, the screeching of a vile demon coming to an abrupt halt shivered his presence in pleasure. Revenge...sweet...sweet revenge.

Now, let's open our eyes.

On the outside Arthur jolted before this eyes flew open, but his eyes were a burning magenta, and his hair was pink at the tips, his skin was a faint pink color and whites were black.

The possessed Arthur smiled to himself before gently rubbing his aching shoulder, humming.

"There we are." Arthur's mouth spoke, Lewis studying his bite marks and injuries, finding nothing serious other than the singed wound where the metal parts used to be.

"...." Mystery was staring him down with a wince, looking down, his eyes averted. "Lewis..." He whispered before turning back into a dog. "Uhm..." He mumbled before walking to the side some, akward and in pain.

Standing next to him, arms folded with a face warped with pain, love, hurt, betrayal, and understanding, and a great deal of grief, was Vivi. Lewis met her gaze, and almost instantly lost it.

Lewis was shot straight out of Arthur, and Arthur stood bolt upright, before shrinking back, his eyes blinking rapidly before averting themselves in shame, knowing.

He knew...she remembered.

Lewis crashed into the floor before scrambling to his feet, locket blue instantly. He looked over and at Vivi, who was standing in front of him with folded arms. She was visibly mad, nearly livid. It was like a stare of a mother who was disappointed to the point of no return.

"V-Vivi-" Lewis whispered, only to flinch when Vivi's eyebrows drew together tightly in a scowl.

"No." She instantly held a hand up. "You. Don't get to speak." She whispered, tears brimming her eyes.

Vivi yanked him into a hug, and shook violently. She clung, receiving no hug back, and Lewis was frozen to the floor, watching as ice formed by her feet. He winced and his eye quickly shot to Arthur, only to find him wincing, holding his side in pain and in mental conflict.

This was it...

The mess.

"Are you alright?" Vivi asked softly.

"Yes." Lewis answered truthfully. "Vivi, your feet are swollen."

"Yup."

"Are they hurt?" Lewis asked hesitantly.

"Yup."

"We should probably go to a hospital." Lewis whispered.

"Definitely."

"Nnng..." Arthur slumped against the wall, feeling all the adrenaline wear off.

He would have fallen over had Shiromori hadn't caught him just before he doubled over. Arthur groaned, shivering with coldness as he was grabbed.

"He's shivering." Shiromori spoke softly, just as Vivi and Lewis looked to him with concern.

Lewis felt momentarily panicked before nodding frantically. "R-Right! Right! Hospital. Give him here. I'm an eternal heat source." Lewis walked over, holding his arms out for Arthur to fall into.

Arthur gave him a weak and reluctant but lucid glare. He hesitated, before looking over to Vivi. She was staring him down with a mix of emotions he couldn't begin to imagine. She seemed frozen, pained, hurt...pissed, yet somehow fearful. He looked down, and guilt glazed over his mind, remembering the kiss, the kitchen, everything.

"Arthur..." Lewis sighed, already knowing his reason to hesitate.

"Let's hurry. Shiromori you get Vivi to the car. Lewis...you're going to drive." Mystery ordered, face turning serious.

Lewis nodded and gently picked Arthur up bridal style. He watched Mori do the same for Vivi and walked as everyone began to head for the exit, Lewis letting the mansion vanish leaving just the foundation. Deadbeats flew from him and crowded Arthur, rubbing his arm and legs, minding the gaping wound his shoulder had become.

"Nn...L-Lewis I-I don't think we should-" Arthur began, his voice sounding very croaked and raspy.

"Shhhh... As much as it sounds fucked, I don't particularly plan to stop my advances on you. To put it plainly, I can't. It's become my entire reason for exsistence. You. And only you. I love her...still...but...not the same way. It's going to hurt her. But she of all people should understand this situation." Lewis spoke above Arthur with a loving and sad face. "Now, you get the passenger seat."

"V-Vivi shou-"

"Laying down in the back will give her room to lay her legs and feet out and relax them. She has pillows back there to prop them up." Lewis explained as they all approached the parked van.

Lewis's deadbeats opened the doors to the van, allowing everyone to hop in. He set Arthur down, making sure his deadbeats were tending to his shivering. He moved with a gentle sway, buckling him in and adjusting his bloodied body into a comfortable sitting position. His eyes flickered to the space behind the seats, watching as Shiromori moved and got Vivi settled, who was silently crying with a look of disgust, letting Mystery use himself to prop her feet up.

Lewis felt a whimper nearly escape his throat, but held it in. He closed the passenger door, before turning into a locket and flying to the driver's seat, reforming in sitting position. Lewis then grabbed the less from the cupholders between the seats, and put them in the ignition, starting the van up.

Arthur blinked tiredly, looking up and through the rearview, only to find his eyes locking with Vivi's.

They shared a long and silent look as Lewis drove them out of the place, and down the road of dead and trusted trees, towards the highway.

Arthur stared into those blue eyes of hers, the pain she had she was staring him down with. Arthur gave her a very sad and pained stare, and she held disgust, and anger in them. She narrowed her eyes, and the temperature within the vehicle began to drop. Arthur shivered as he breathed, seeing his air in front of his face as she began to freeze the inside of the van where she was sitting, ice forming along the flooring.

Lewis sighed when he saw the heat and steam coming from him. He then emitted more heat from himself and his deadbeats, to warm up the van and keep Arthur from freezing.

His eyes worriedly flicked to Arthur almost constantly. Arthur was very pale, and tired, his under eye circles being so prominent they were distracting. His eyes were back to normal coloration, but he head still shivering. He looked like a corpse would at a funeral.

Lifeless.

"Breathe." Shiromori spoke softly, gently running her fingers through Vivi's hair. "Trust me...breathing helps. From personal experience. It helps the control."

Vivi closed her eyes and tensed her hands, clenching them together, shaking her head in disappointment and heartbreak. She shivered and winced as pain throbbed through her feet. She shook her head and whimpered, before breaking into a fit of heavy yet quiet sobs, using Shiromori's arms as a muffle.

Lewis looked at the road with a somber stare, and Arthur sighed, closing his eyes, thinking with sorrow...

Maybe... He thought. Maybe I should just.... disappear.
