Chapter Thirteen: Hotel Owner
"Seungwoo is the friend that works in the hotel? So if I'd chosen that, I'd be working with him right now, instead of Seungsik?" Gayoung asked Subin.
"Yep!" he said cheerily, bouncing ahead of her. "Come on, hurry up," he whined.
"I'm hurrying," she laughed. "Besides, we're almost there. Didn't you say that was the hotel he works at?" she asked, pointing to the hotel at the end of the block.
"That's the one," he agreed. "By the way, how's work going? Do you like it?"
"It's really fun," she told him happily. "I didn't realize how fun working with the kids would be, but I love it. They're cute, and they keep you on your toes. And Seungsik is so nice. He's really one of the nicest people I've ever met," she gushed.
"What about me?" Subin whined, opening the hotel door for her.
"Besides you, of course," she said teasingly.
He rolled his eyes at her. "I don't think you mean that," he complained, pouting.
"I do!" she insisted. "I totally do!"
"Hm, sure," he said, still being pouty. He crossed his arms and turned away from her.
"I'm serious," she whined, grabbing onto his arm and turning him to face her. "I really am," she said sincerely. "Thank you. For being my friend when I was alone."
He smiled, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Why were you alone though?" he asked, leading them to a table. "We'll wait here for Seungwoo," he explained.
"Because... I always had to work. I would always find a job at the beginning of the school year and I was gone most of the time. Since a lot of times I couldn't hang out... no one really made the effort to keep reaching out. I mean think of it, I brushed you off like three times this week because I had to go work! But you still want to be my friend, and thank you for that."
"You're making me all emotional," he said, wiping away a fake tear. "Those people who left you don't know what they're missing out on," he said seriously. "You're great. And since it's Friday, you can hang out for a little longer, right?"
"Wrong!" she said, laughing and shaking her head at him. "I still have work to go to after this."
"Oh, I forgot," he said, looking at her sheepishly. "But this weekend! How about we all hang out this weekend!"
"All... eight of us? Where will we go?"
"Let's go back to the amusement park? Huh, please? What do you say?"
"I say yes," she said happily. "I'd love to. Especially since I don't work on weekends."
"Great!" He said distractedly, his eyes looking past her. "That's Seungwoo," he said, pointing to a boy in a suit, serving customers a couple of tables away.
"Is he a waiter?" Gayoung asked, watching as he expertly went around, taking orders and delivering food to people. He was really handsome. Kind of hot.
"Well... you could say that," Subin said.
"What else would you say?" she asked, looking at him in confusion. "What else would you call him?"
"Hey there," Seungwoo said, coming over to them. "I'm finished now," he said, running a hand through his hair. He looked tired. "Where are we headed?"
"Do you want to sit down for a minute first?" she asked him. "You look tired. You should tell the hotel owner to let you rest," she said, frowning at him in concern.
"Hotel owner? That would be me," he deadpanned.
Gayoung blinked at him, unsure as to whether or not he was joking. "Wait... really?"
A small smile came to his face, but it couldn't hide the tiredness and stress in his eyes. "Yes really," said kindly, turning his attention to Subin. "Where are we going?"
"To my house," Subin said, going in-between them and linking arms with the both of them. "I need you to help me with something."
