Percy opened the door to the apartment and walked in. "Dad! We're home!" She dragged Andrew by his hand past the living room then into her bedroom. "We're going to do homework." Percy shouted before closing her door behind her and Andrew.
Andrew sat down on the bed with its black bedspread. The blonde just pulled out books for homework. "Wise Guy." Percy growled as she crossed her arms.
Andrew looked up at her with a confused expression. That was rare with anyone else, but Percy got that look a lot. "What Seaweed Brain?" Andrew pushed a curl out of his face before slumping against the wall.
"You . . . " Percy took a deep breath as she took her jacket off and threw it on her desk chair. "You took on another tutoring job." Percy's green eyes darkened and her knuckles strained to white in her tight fits at her sides.
"Oh." Andrew blinked before smiling softly. Percy was so overprotective of her friends, but Andrew knew that when it came to him . . . Percy would never let up. "Perce . . . I can handle it. Besides I'm losing two different kids because they don't need it anymore. So I can take on another student."
"You barely get to relax as it is!" Percy whined as she stomped her foot. Today was Monday, Andrew met with a freshman today during study hall then a junior during free period. "I drag you here so you can but even then . . . " Percy knew Andrew's mind was already thinking of lessons and plans for different days. That or plans for a new building that he would stay up until three a.m. to draw.
Andrew kept smiling as he watched Percy pout. "Percy, I'm fine. You know why I do it. Now, come on let's get this homework done so we can watch some movies." Percy sighed.
"I'll go get us some snacks." Percy kicked off her boots then padded into the kitchen.
Sam, Percy's dad, was in the kitchen mixing a bowl of blue cookie dough. "Hey Sweetie, just take some chips, I'm making you guys some cookies." Percy grinned as she hugged her dad from the side. Her dad kissed the top of her head. Percy kissed her dad's cheek then grabbed chips and drinks and left.
She plopped onto her bed and handed Andrew his Sprite and opened the bag of Doritos. "Thanks." Andrew sipped his drink then put it on the nightstand. The two of them did their homework and talked.
When they finally finished Percy whined about her brain being turned to mush by this stuff. Andrew chuckled as he cleared the bed of books. Percy grinned before jumping onto Andrew's back. The blonde just sighed before hooking his hand under Percy's thighs. Percy wrapped her arms around his neck and giggled.
"Percy, why?" Andrew acted exasperated even as he fought a grin. Percy just buried her face in his neck and kept giggling. "Ugh!" Andrew pouted.
"Wise Guy, don't even act like you don't love me. I'm your bestie!" Percy laughed as she grinned over his shoulder at him.
"I do love you, but you're a bit much sometimes." Andrew joked. Percy mumbled something about showing him a bit much, then pulled him back so they fell onto the bed. She flipped them so she was sitting on him and he was on his back on the bed. "That wasn't necessary!"
Percy grinned as she bent forward toward him. "Yes it was, you were being pouty." Andrew rolled his eyes as he put one hand under his head and one rested on Percy's waist, a finger looped through her belt loop.
"What are we, nine?" Andrew smirked. Percy grinned, when they were nine Percy was taller than him, and a whole lot stronger. Now she was 5' 9" to his 6' 1.5" but, she was just as strong.
"No we're best friends." Percy grinned as she bopped his nose. She was sat on his stomach, but leaned over so they were almost nose to nose. Personal space had always been a foreign concept to them.
"That we are." Andrew grinned back, his grey eyes sparkled.
"Kids! Cookies!" Percy's dad called from the kitchen. Percy's eyes widened and she jumped off Andrew to race to the cookies.
Andrew sighed before getting up. Of course, his best friend had to run to the cookies. Just one more minute, one more, was all Andrew needed. One minute to just be with her and only her. Everything was so easy when it was just them. His brain did run a million miles an hour and was only calmed by her.
Maybe it was the ocean sent of her. Or the way her green eyes were so familiar. Maybe the way her black hair was always messy and could never be tamed. Her hair that Andrew was constantly touching. It was so alluring with its just-had-sex kind of look. Or it could just be that she was always there, no matter how late, how busy, how down, she was always there.
And in Andrew's life, that meant a whole lot. By the time he walked into the kitchen, Percy had already down five cookies and was chewing on her sixth. Sam, Percy's dad, smiled at Andrew who smiled back.
Sam was a taller man with brown hair with the smallest bits of grey poking through. He had warm and kind eyes that could be different shades of blue. And his smile lit up the room. Percy got her looks from her mom, who died when Percy was one, but Percy got her kindness from her dad.
Paula, Percy's Step-mom, walked in with her briefcase. "I smell cookies!" She grinned as she went over to give Sam a kiss on the cheek. Paula had salt and pepper hair that fell to her mid back when down, but was usually up in a ponytail. She wore a white button down with a brown jacket and black pants. A cool English teacher, the rarest of people.
Percy smiled at her parents and handed a cookie to Andrew who sat down by her. "When don't you smell cookies in this house?" Sam teased.
"When Percy is over at Andrew's." Paula said wiggling her eyebrows for only Sam to see, but the teens heard the tone.
"What's that-oh gross guys!" Percy fake vomited. Andrew laughed as Percy buried her face in his shoulder. "Wise Guy I need mind bleach!"
"You already have seaweed for brains, you'll forget soon." Andrew teased. Sam laughed as Percy blushed. Paula just grinned at the two.
"Listen, I don't need your smart mouth I get enough from Nikki." Percy pouted and jabbed Andrew's side with her fingers.
"Hey! That hurt." Andrew frowned. But Percy grinned and Andrew sighed, he couldn't even be mad at her. It just wouldn't work, not to mention if he tried to be mad she would just pull out the baby seal face. "Ugh, whatever." He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
Percy smirked and got up. She didn't say a word as she dropped her arms over Andrew from behind him. She bent down to rest her chin on his shoulder. Andrew raised an eyebrow and glared at her. Percy, as fast as lightning, stuck her finger in her mouth then in his ear. She was running away as Andrew shouted.
"PERCY!" Andrew stood up and chased the black haired girl until she locked her bedroom door behind her. And he had to wait for her to come back out.
