ChapterThirteen-American S Club 8 

April 2nd, 2005

 It's now April. The New England's Teen Superstar now has the Top 7 Finalists. After the semi-finals, there was 12 finalists. UTurn was in the Top 12 with two other groups (The Administrators and P.I.N.K.), but now they are the last band standing. There's even just 2 Beacon Hill High performing arts students left! So far, UTurn has been the most successful group in the competition.

 UTurn where in their hotel room after a day filled with rehearsals. Alyson was on her laptop, checking up on the latest news on her favourite pop band, S Club 8. She was visibly frustrated from what she was reading. Bailey, Justin, and Andrew were with Alyson.

 Bailey asked, "Aly, what's wrong?"

 Alyson replied, "I'm worried about S Club 8."

 Andrew asked, "It's not some rumor on your two favorite guys, Calvin and Brandon, right?"

 Calvin Goldspink and Brandon Hilton were S Club 8's two of the 3 hottest boys. Alyson has a huge crush on them. Andrew knew Alyson likes them, but also knew that she loves him more.

 Alyson said, "No, which is good. But it's just there's everyone saying 'S Club 8 is on a break', or 'S Club 8 split up', or 'S Club 8 is working on a third CD'. Like, there's no answer! None of the members has said anything."

 Justin asked, "Are any of the members doing anything right now?"

 "Frankie supposedly got a solo contract. Quinn is hosting that show Smile. Brandon is in the dance company TK Spin. I don't know about the others."

 Bailey said, "Sounds like they disappeared, without any announcement."

 Alyson asked, "You're saying S Club 8 split up?"

 "Aly, I know they're your favourite pop band. They made you British crazy. But it seems like they did split up without saying anything."

 Alyson became silent, then went to her room.

 Bailey said, "I feel sorry for her. I really liked S Club 8 myself."

 Andrew said, "They're pretty cool. Although I wish Aly stops comparing me to Brandon. Our hair colours aren't even the same."

 Justin said, "I still kinda wish I had auditioned to be in S Club 8."

 Bailey said, "But you were living here in America at the time."

 "I know."

 30 minutes later, Alyson came out of her room with a determined smile. The UTurn members were confused by this.

 Bailey asked, "Aly, are you okay?"

 Alyson beamed, "Yes, cuz I got an idea for UTurn if we win, or just get signed."

 "What is it?"

 "We become the new, American S Club 8!"

 Andrew, Bailey, and Justin were stunned by this suggestion.

 Justin asked, "And how are we gonna do that? By adding four more people, a guy and 3 girls?"

 Alyson said excitedly, "Exactly!"

 Andrew asked, "So I'm guessing we sing, dance, and dress like them?"

 Justin scoffed, "Then we'd better stay out of Britain for a whilst if we're the 'American' S Club 8. Besides, I'm not even an American. I still have my British accent."

 Bailey asked, "And if we're really gonna be like S Club 8, it'll be 'Sundown S Club 8', right?"

 'Sundown S Club 8' was a reference to S Club 8's second album, Sundown. It was released and promoted in 2003.

 Alyson replied, "Yes to all your questions."

 Andrew asked, "Yeah, I have another question: Will this American S Club 8 work here in America? S Club 8 never even came here."

 Alyson pouted, "Why are you all doubting my idea?"

 Justin explained, "Because it's a risk to do a band that's like S Club 8. S Club 7 wasn't even mainstream here. They were just on Radio Disney. S Club 8 only got American fans through that American Juniors show and band."

 Andrew said, "I don't we're gonna be mainstream anytime soon, whether as a 4-piece or 8-piece."

 "Why do you say that?"

 "Because the label that'll sign us, win or not, Q Division, is an independent label. They're not some big label. Hell, we'll be lucky if we get on Radio Disney."

 Alyson asked, getting restless, "So we're not gonna do this American S Club 8?"

 Bailey said, "I'm willing to go for it, as long as we're doing the Sundown-era S Club 8. We're a little too old to be doing  S Club 8 as S Club Juniors."

 Justin said, "I still think it's risky to pull something like S Club 8 here in America. But as long we stay out of Britain for a few years, and do as Bailey says, I'm all for it."

 Andrew said, "The Brits will still find out about us because this teen popstar search has a MySpace page and a YouTube page. S Club 8 fans will find out about us eventually. And if we get signed, our music will be on the internet."

 Bailey, getting impatient, asked, "Andrew, are you in or not?"

 "I'm just being realistic."

 Justin said, "We are all. We're taking a risk, but it might work out. We don't know yet."

 Alyson then said, "Music wise here in America, I think we got better shot of sticking around longer than S Club 8. Look on the British iTunes. Britain likes rock music right now. Here in America, we like urban pop and pop-rock. We could dabble with rock, urban, and dance, and mix it up with pop, but still be 'S Club 8'-like."

 Bailey asked Andrew again, "Andrew, are you in or not?"

 Andrew said, "It's a risk. If Britain can have their S Club bands, why not us? Let's go for it."

 So UTurn decided to change their music style and looks for New England's Teen Superstar. Originally, their music style was very much like Swedish pop group A*Teens, and their costumes were like American pop group Jump5. When it was time to perform, they premiered their new look and sound. They sang a dance-pop song, (One For Sorrow by Steps) and dressed like S Club 8. As a result of the new, 'rebellious' UTurn, they gained more fans. And once again, they avoided elimination and the Bottom 3 altogether.
