Chapter Three
"...I got a peaceful easy feelin'
And I know you won't let me down
'Cause I'm already standin'
On the ground..."

Dan
I was pacing back and forth across my room. Phil was going to be here any moment, and I, obviously, was very nervous.
If Cat were here right now, she would say I was being ridiculous. She'd say that there was no reason to be nervous around Phil Lester, and that's a stretch, considering she probably doesn't even know his name. Hell, she probably doesn't even knew he exists! So why am I nervous..?
Ding dong!
"I'll get it, Dan!" Mum rushed down the stairs to open the door. "Oh, hey Phil! It took you long enough. Dan was telling us about how worried he was about you coming over, and you know, I found that really strange. He's never nervous about ANYONE coming over at ALL. It's almost li-"
"Alright, that's enough!" I yelled, rushing down the steps. "Mum, he's here so I can help him with his trig homework, you hear me? Trig. Homework." I motioned for Phil to come up the stairs. "Come on, Phil. Let's get your homework done."
I shut the door behind me. "Sorry about that," I muttered, sitting down on my bed. "My mum is rather...well..."
"Excitable?"
"I guess you could say that." I didn't say anything for a moment. "Anyways, you're here for homework help, right? Yeah, let's do that instead of talking about my mum, because that's awkward."
"Yeah," said Phil quietly, taking his bag off of his shoulders. "Oh, and I must warn you that this may take a while. I have a lot of papers."
"PHIL, YOU'RE RUINING MY FLOOR! I JUST VACUUMED THAT," I yelled exasperatedly. Papers, staples, and eraser shavings were littered across my room.
"Whoops." Phil threw a few more things out of his bag before smoothing out a sheet of paper. "Here we go. I found it, Dan." He set the paper down on my desk. "Just give me a moment. I need to find a pe-"
"I have pencils, pens, erasers, markers, scissors, glue, staplers, paper clips, tape, wite-out, coloured pencils, and anything else you could ever need. Please just don't dirty up my floor more," I whined, looking at the horrendous mess Phil had made. "That's going to take hours to clean up, and you haven't even emptied half your bag!"
"It's fine, Dan. It's been a heck of a lot dirtier than this, and I still get by. So, where do we start?"

As it turns out, tutoring Phil was a lot harder than I had anticipated.
You know those kinds of people who change the subject all the time and zone out? Yeah, that's Phil. And while that's adorable at times, right now it's frustrating, because my parents don't like me having friends over. They think all my friends are like PJ and Cat, who they aren't huge fans of.
"So, I was at the pet shop getting things for Loki, and there was this fluffy ginger kitten sitting in a cage. He's great with kids, he's playful, and he's really affectionate, but my mum says one cat is enough. I really want him though," Phil said sadly. "I'm afraid somebody who won't care for him properly will take him. If I had him, I would take good care of him. I would be the best owner ever!"
Yeah, Cat definitely wouldn't approve of Phil.
"Don't you think I would be a good owner Dan?"
I grabbed a sheet of notebook paper and began writing a math problem on it. "Phil, I think you should tell your mum to suck it up and get that kitten anyway and give it the best home it could possibly have."
"Really?"
I gave Phil a pencil. "Here, work this one out."
Phil began writing down some numbers onto the paper. "Oh, did I mention-"
"Phil, Phil, Phil." I took the pencil from him. "You're doing it wrong."
"Oh."
"Hey, it's okay. It takes a while to figure things out, especially when you suck at math."
"You're saying that I suck at math?"
I snickered. "Well, you said it first."
"Very true," he said, snatching the pencil back.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
Phil wrote the formula at the bottom of his paper. "I'm going to prove you wrong, you doink."
I smiled as Phil scribbled numbers onto his paper.
"Hey Dan? I think I have it."
Phil handed me his paper. I looked at the answer and...
"You actually got it right! Good job! I was not expecting that!"
"What?"
"Oh, um, sorry, I mean, good job! I knew you could do it!"
Phil grinned.
"Shit," I muttered.
"What is it?"
"It's 5:30...Phil, I think your parents are going to be here in a few minutes."
"Oh," said Phil sadly.
Before I could process what was happening, Phil ran towards me and gave me a hug.
"This was the most fun I've ever had."
