Chapter Five
"...I've been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I've been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I'm fallin' for you..."

"So, I found out where I'm going for my business trip."
Emily, Mum, and I were sitting on the sofa.
"Where's dad?" Emily asked.
"I already called him. He's at work."
"Oh."
"So, where's the trip?" I asked.
"Los Angeles, California," she smiled.
My jaw dropped. "I've always wanted to go there!"
"I'm going to bring a camera. I'll get lots of photos, I promise," she smiled.
"When are you leaving?"
"In four days."
Emily looked like she was about to cry. Mum ruffled her hair. "Hey, it's okay. The two months will be up and I'll be back before you know it. Dad's going to be here for you also, you know."
"I know, but I'm going to miss you, mummy!" Emily began to cry. I looked down sadly. I hated seeing my sister upset.
"We're going to get plenty of work done when I get to L.A., Emily. This is vitally important; you understand me?" Emily nodded sadly. "When I get back, it's very possible I'll get a promotion."
Emily looked up for a moment at the word "promotion", but she looked back down immediately.
"Hey, Emily, it's going to be alright," I said, patting her shoulder.
"But...I'm going to miss her!"
"I'm going to miss her too, but you heard what she said. This is necessary. And don't forget about that possible promotion."
Emily continued to sob.
"Hey, Emily, how about we go to Disney World when I get back?"
Emily looked up.
"I presume that's a yes," Mum laughed. "You, Dad, Dan and I will all go to Disney."
"In the hotel with the Mickey Mouse pool?"
"In the hotel with the Mickey Mouse pool," said Mum.
"I still wish you didn't have to go."
"I don't want to go either, but I have to. I'm sorry, Emily. I would stay if I could."
Emily ran towards Mum and gave her a hug. "I love you, mummy," she said.
"I love you too," I said, giving her a hug too. "I'm going to miss you. I really will."
"I love you too."

"So, let me get this straight. Your mum is going to Los Angeles?" I asked.
"Yep," Dan sighed, taking out a sheet of scrap paper. "And I'm not going."
"There must be a way. You have to go, Dan. You've always wanted to go to L.A."
He scribbled a trigonometry problem onto the paper.
"Dan?"
"I'm going to the airport with her, and that's as close to Cali as I'll probably ever get." He sharpened a pencil and handed it to me. "You've got two problems left to go."
"Da-"
"Work it."
As I began working out the problem, Dan sat down on his piano stool and began twiddling his thumbs.
"You play piano?"
"Badly."
"Well, play something anyway."
"Why?"
"Because I want to hear it. Show me what you've got."
Dan let out a sigh. "Well, here goes nothing." I sat patiently as he began to play "Desperado" by Eagles.
"Desperado...why don't you come to your senses? You've been out riding fences for so long now..."
I put my pencil down and watched Dan play. His voice was honestly beautiful. I don't know what the hell he was on about earlier when he said he was bad.
"Desperado...why don't you come to your senses? Come down from your fences...open the gate...It may be raining; but there's a rainbow above you...you better let somebody love you...you better let somebody love you...before it's too late..."
"What do you mean you suck? That was incredible!" I exclaimed as Dan played the closing chords.
"It's nothing special, really," said Dan. "I had a piano tutor at one point, but that didn't really last long. She was a bitch, so I just taught myself."
"Well, you taught yourself really damn well, because that was absolutely incredible. And your voice, Dan- you're so talented!"
"Thank you," muttered Dan, looking down. I could still see his face though; he was blushing profusely. "Hey, um, is that your mum's car?"
I looked out Dan's window to see a silver Kia pulling into the driveway. I sighed. "Yes."
Dan bent down to pick up my books and handed them to me. "It's Friday, right?"
I nodded. "So, I'll see you Monday?"
"Yep."
As I proceeded to leave, Dan pulled me into a hug. "Thanks for coming over Phil."
"Oh, um, you're welcome," I said awkwardly.
After about a minute Dan pulled away and grinned. "I'll see you Monday."
"See you Monday."
A/N-I regret writing from Phil's POV at all because the main events are going to revolve around Dan so Phil's POV is going to be a rare occasion OOPS
Also where I live we were supposed to get 97% totality during the solar eclipse and we got close to nothing and I'm still pretty pissed off about it two days later. That was in no related but I needed to put that out there so you could scream in frustration with me.
