THE CURSED TELEVISION
You sit at your desk staring out the window and waiting for your parents to come home. The setting sun colored the sky in reds, oranges, and pinks. The fall leaves blow in the gentle breeze. Your parents had been out most of the day and you wonder what they're bringing home this time. Almost all the time, your parents give you everything you want. Most people would call you spoiled, but not your parents.
You are their precious little jewel. You grow impatient waiting and wishing for your family to hurry and come home. After what seems like an eternity, they finally pull up the dirt driveway and bring out a television. Excitement grows with each passing minute. Finding your ground, you push yourself up out of your chair and run for the front door. Your parents step through it and you finally see a television set in person and up close. It was old almost 90s style with a VHS player.
"Mommy! Daddy!" you exclaim. "What did you get me?!"
"It's a television set son," your father responds, but when you inspect it, you grow disgusted. "What do you think?"
"It's old and lame!" you yell. Your parents frown at it, unhappy that you did not like the TV, still they kept it in the family room in case you change your mind. But you continue to refuse. Later that night, as you are tossing and turning, the tv suddenly comes on by itself. You try to ignore it, but the more you try, the more that it got louder. Annoyed, you get up and turn it off, but the television turns back on and changes channels constantly until it gets to 666. You pause, unsure of what you're going to see. You sit in front of the tv as it shows scenes from your own life as if it's reading your mind. It shows you growing up but suddenly, your life is getting worse due to you sitting in front of the tv, it glowed a bright white light and a creature jumps out of the TV. You try to scream for your parents, but they don't seem to hear. You try yet again, but nothing seems to work. More of the figure emerges from the machine, it stand in front of you at least six feet tall and looks exactly like you.
You freeze, stunned into silence, until you can move again. The alternate you struggle to get close. Before it can reach out to you, you scream and bolt awake, realizing that it was all a dream. But it taught you a lesson, to appreciate your parents and to stop expecting so much unless you want to become a hideous monster.
