"You think say na only you get story? EVERY FREAKING PERSON HAS A STORY, AJAY!"

Ajay remained mute for sometime out of shock. She couldn't believe what was going on. Who was this person standing in front of her? Because obviously, she had no idea who he was. He couldn't be the same Oga Fejiro she knew, could he?

Fejiro sighed massaging his temples. He couldn't tell what came over him as he paced the living room. He moved closer to Ajay and used his two hands to hold hers so tightly that she couldn't pull out when she wanted to out of annoyance. She struggled with him but he managed to still hold onto her, his heart racing like crazy.

"Aunty," He began breathlessly, he took in a very deep breath before he continued, "I'm s.sorry abeg. No vex for me. Just give me a chance to explain myself and tell you everything." His eyes pleaded.

"What exactly are you trying to explain? The fact that you've been deceiving me all this while?"

Fejiro shook his head, "No, no, no. I swear, I wasn't deceiving anyone."

Ajay looked at him totally disgusted as she was finally able to pull her hands out of his grip. "Fine! Let me hear the excuses you have." Fejiro sighed, sitting on the sofa beside hers. He looked down with his palms joined together for sometime before he started narrating.

"I was t...the eldest and only son of OPEL."

Ajay's eyes widened in shock, but then she scoffed in disbelief, "It can't be the OPEL I know right?" Fejiro let out a sad chuckle. It was as if he was expecting the reply he got.

"My.My full na..me is Ovie-Oyinvwi Oghenefejiro Francis and yes, it's the OPEL you kn..ow. I was once the heir to O..Ovie-Oyinvwi Petrochemical Industries Limited." He said sadly, yet so confidently. Ajay was in shock. She couldn't believe his baseless stories, could she? For crying out loud it was OPEL they were talking about here; one of the multi-billionaire companies in Nigeria, with branches all over Africa.

"Wait, let me get this straight. So what you're trying to tell me is that you're the heir to the popular OPEL, my fucking dream company?"

"Was. I was. Not a..anymore."

Ajay laughed, "I don't understand."

"A.aunty calm down make I land. I'll tell you e.everything. Just don't chuk your mouth until I finish."

"Okay, go on." Ajay replied, relaxing comfortably into the seat

"I was a little boy, loved and pampered by everyone around me, everybody just like me because say, well, I be rich man pi.pikin. I went to Wesley College through out my secondary school ye.years a..nd I graduated as top of my class. I immediately got admitted into Nile University in same Abuja. Everything was okay until the day I got kidnapped o.n my way to school one Friday morning."

Flashback

The Ovie-Oyinvwi Mansion, Abuja

Seventeen year old Fejiro frowned his face. He just couldn't understand why his mother wouldn't let him live on campus like his mates. "Mum, I am seventeen for crying out loud, I can take care of myself."

"Fejiro, I know what I'm trying to avoid o. Trust me, this house is the safest place for you right now. A lot is going on already, I don't want anyone giving me extra stress." His mum explained, her single dimple so obvious as she spoke.

"Exactly mum. I don't want to stress you that's why I want to live in the hostel. All my friends are there...."

"You are not going to stay in the hostel Fejiro, and that's final!"

"But mum...." Fejiro's mum put her hands up to shush him immediately. She glared at him before getting up and exiting from the dining table.

Fejiro grumbled in annoyance. He was yet to understand his mum's stubbornness over the issue. Grumpily, he grabbed his school bag and exited the house. His driver started the car and drove off to his campus.

On their way, the met with an unusual Police check point. The check point made the cars move extra slower than necessary because of how the hungry police men were extorting some money from the people and this made Fejiro really angry because he was already late. When it got to their turn, they were asked to park their car by the side of the road.

"Oga, where are your particulars?" A lanky pot-bellied officer asked, leaning on the black Mercedes Benz M-Class 2010 coupe. They knew the car obviously belonged to a wealthy person and they just wanted to extort good money from him. The driver quickly brought out a bundle of papers from the glove compartment of the car and handed it over to the police.

"Oga, come down. This your particulars are fake." Another tall lanky officer commented after taking a peek at the papers.

"Officer, I just got these papers last week...." The driver explained but he was abruptly pulled out of the car forcefully. A heated argument ensued between the three of them. It went on for a while before the leader of the Police group came to settle the argument.

After confirming it's originality, they handed the papers back to the driver and allowed him to go. Unfortunately, the car was no longer where he parked it. There was no car. There was no Fejiro.

"Sheyyy una dey carry me play ba?" He bellowed angrily at the police officers, "WHERE THE FUCK IS MY CAR?!"

.

.

Fejiro was kidnapped and kept in a ware house for weeks without food. He was constantly beaten because he always failed while trying to escape. During the third week, he negotiated with the servant of the kidnappers to release him in return for a desirable position at his father's company. It wasn't easy but after several attempts, he was able to convince him.

On the day of their planned escape, the servant was nowhere to be found. He waited for a sign that it was time to run away but he never got any. After several hours, the leader of the gang walked into the room with a stick of lit cigarette in his hands. He quietly signalled one of his men to untie Fejiro from the chair.

Fejiro's face lit up. That was the first time they were actually untying him and he was truly happy. It felt like escape. His severely weak and bruised body was finally taken out of the dark room. He could see the light rays from the blind fold which he still had on.

"Boss, what do I do with him now?" The man that brought Fejiro out asked.

"Just take him to the road and drop him there. Our mission has been accomplished already and we promised never to get our hands stained."

"Yes boss." He saluted and carried Fejiro into their van and sped off.

"Si...r please can't you ta.ke me to my house? My mum must be looking for me." Fejiro asked, his voice very faint as they drove down. The man parked and carefully removed his blindfold. He slowly opened his eyes to the bright light. It took some seconds before his eyes were able to adjust to the brightness. He turned and looked at the man beside him hoping to get a positive reply from him.

"Sir please. I don't have any money on me for transport and I'm really weak. I haven't eaten for a very long time now." Fejiro pleaded.

"Look, I can't go against my boss's orders, but I'll allow you eat and then give you some money for transport."

Tears rolled down Fejiro's cheek, "Thank you so much sir, thank you." He would be going home after a very long stay with the kidnappers. Fejiro was later taken to a local restaurant where he hungrily ate a plate of eba and okra soup. After eating, the man squeezed three one thousand naira notes into his hands and left. Fejiro had no idea where he was but with some people's help, he was able to find his way home.

Another tragedy was waiting for him as he stepped down from the taxi he boarded. A big obituary banner rested on the large brown gate of his house. It had a picture of his parents on it. Fejiro felt his whole world stop. He couldn't believe it. He knocked on the gate vigorously, screaming the gate man's name.

"Who be you?" The gateman with large tribal marks whom he was unfamiliar with asked rudely.

"My name is Fejiro, I live here." Fejiro tried explaining. He wasn't ready for unnecessary arguments. The gateman stared at him with disgust before bursting into a very loud laughter.

"Nawa! Nothing wey I no go see for this Abuja." Fejiro looked too unkempt and haggard to even step a foot into the compound.

"Tunde, who's that at the gate?" A fair middle aged woman asked. She just stepped out of the house with her friend who came visiting.

"Madam na one mad beggar o. He talk say this place na him house." Tunde laughed

"Oga, this is my house. I'm not mad, I know what I'm saying..." Fejiro argued "I don't have any idea why you're now the gateman but...." His speech was cut short on seeing the woman. It was his father's best friend's wife, Aunt Maria.

"Aunt Maria, Good evening." Fejiro greeted slowly. The shock evident on her face made him realize everything was fishy. Why was the gateman calling her madam?

"Fe.. Fejiro, what are you doing here? You shouldn't be here!" She whisper yelled at him.

"Aunty Maria, what's going on? What is this banner all about?" Fejiro asked tears suddenly staining his cheeks. Out of sympathy, she invited him into the house. She allowed him freshen up and change into clean clothes and then took him to a salon to get a new haircut.

That night, Fejiro was informed of the death of his parents in a ghastly motor accident and also informed of his relocation to his village in Warri to attend his parents burial and stay with his only surviving grandmother permanently. His father's company was willed to his best friend and he was now in charge of OPEL.

End of Flashback

Fejiro sighed, "That was how I lost everything. My parents couldn't even deem it fit to at least allow me complete my education with the trust fund I had. Every single thing w.as taken away from me. I lost my grandmother a year later."

"Oh my God!" Ajay who had been listening all the while couldn't help the tears that formed in her eyes.

"I couldn't speak for almost a year after that tragedy. I was a very sad child, and alone. I could feed, thanks to some money my grandm...other managed to save from the ones my parents had been sending her when they were alive. When I finally star.ted speaking, I found it really hard and na only to stammer I fit do. I came to Lagos five years ago because I realized I needed to make a living for myself. I want to go back to school. So I've been saving since then."

"Oh my God! Oga Fejiro....."

"Shhh..." Fejiro moved closer and gently wiped her tears, "Call me Fejiro, Ajay. Fe...jiro. Oya, say it."

"Seriously? Is that important right now?" Ajay yelled bursting into more years.

Fejiro couldn't help but blush at the sight.

She was crying because of him!

"Listen to me, Ajay, I'm okay. I'm better now. Since I met you, I've been gaining my true self back. Look, I can even speak without stuttering so much." He raised her head up with his finger so she would look at him, "I'm just trying to say, you made my life take a huge turn for good and I'm happy a..about it. I love you Ajay and I don't want to be a fling to you. I want to be more. I want to love you as much as I can, only if you allow me."

Ajay nodded quickly, sniffing continuously due to the tears. Fejiro smiled excitedly and pulled her in for a hug, patting her back gently.

"I love you, Ajay."
