Chapter 7

Luigi's nerves weren't being kind to him. With every step he stood he felt his stomach drop even more to the point he almost felt sick. Sometimes she shook so much that he didn't think he'd be able to take another step without toppling over. Leah looked back at him worriedly. She walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. "If you want I can continue forward and you can wait by the entrance to the graveyard. I'll be back with the Stardust Pouch." Leah offered. Luigi wanted to accept, to go back and simply wait for his friend. He knew however that his fear would only be replaced by worry for his friend. While he had heard she had been training with Mr.L to get stronger, he had never seen this training for himself. "No. I-it's Ok. I'll be fine." Luigi said. Leah stood there for a moment before nodding and moving forward. Luigi did his best to stay with her and block out anything that might scare him. Soon the pair approached the Church. The graveyard had been apart of the churchyard so it wasn't very far from the Church, despite the fact that it seemed like forever to Luigi. The two entered the main hall of the church. It was quite spacious and seemed to lead off into a hallway on one side with a door on the other. "I wonder where it would be in here?" Leah mumbled aloud. "We could use the same logic that we did to think the graveyard." Luigi suggested. "A place that's not the first or last place someone would think to look."

"I don't know if that logic is going to work very well in here. There are aren't enough places to hide it." Leah pointed out. "Fair point." Luigi said. "Do you think there is anyone here that might know about the pouch?" Leah seemed a bit puzzled by the question. "I don't know actually." She said after a moment. The building they where in seemed in almost perfect condition so more than likely someone was taking care of it. Maybe if they where here, they would know something about the Stardust Pouch. "I don't know if anyone is here right now, but let's keep an eye out while we search." Leah said as she began walking. "Maybe we should split up." Luigi suggested. Leah gave him a confused look. "Do you really want to be alone?" She asked. "I might have been scared out there but I don't think there are any bad spirits in here." Luigi said. Leah smiled "Ok. If you need help though just yell for me." She said as she began to walk off. Luigi walked down the hall he saw, keeping an eye out for any sort of movement. Leah went to the big set of doors. She inspected them closely before walking though. She now stood in a big room. It had a few chairs in it and some benches but it didn't have much of anything else. There was a small door in the corner that seemed like a closet. Leah walked over to it and opened it. She gave a shout of surprise as she jumped back. Inside there where three men, all out cold. "What....why?" Leah was, needless to say, confused and worried. Leah carefully attempted to approach the unconscious men but was grabbed by the back of her dress and thrown to the ground. "I was honestly wondering how long I had to find the thing before the heroes showed up. Not as long as I though but at least it's you and not someone that can actually fight me." Leah sat up and quickly got her head together. In front of her seemed to be a shadow version of Mr.L. "Don't worry though. If I have to fight you I won't hurt you too badly. After all, why would I want to hurt my precious little ghost." Shadow L laughed. Leah stood up and untied her bow, ready to strangle him with the ribbon. "You actually want to fight? Even if you don't stand a chance? Well, I guess I'll have to fulfill your little request." Shadow L smirked. "Have at you!" He shouted before rushing at the ghost. Leah quickly moved out the the way, as Shadow L dashed by Leah unused her ribbon as a whip. Instead of hitting him however, it wrapped around his leg, tripping him before he managed to stop himself. "Tripping me? Is that the best you can do?" Shadow L taunted as he stood back up. "I was aiming for the neck." Leah said. "So she speaks!" The shadow laughed. The shadow super jumped above the ghost and came down on top of her head before she had time to react. Leah fell to the ground and before she could get up again, Shadow L stepped onto her back, pushing her back down. "Remember, you where the one that picked that fight." Shadow L taunted. The entrance opened and Luigi stepped through. He had heard fighting and wanted to see what all the commotion was about.

"Leah!" He shouted. "Oh of all people..." Shadow L complained. "It had to be Junior." Leah struggled to get Shadow L off of her only to be swiftly kicked in the side. "Hey! Leave her alone." Luigi shouted, throwing a green ball of electricity at Shadow L and knocking him into a nearby wall. Luigi helped Leah to her feet. "Thanks." Leah said. "No problem." Luigi replied. Shadow L chuckled as he stood up. "I wonder..." he began "how many lives does the little brother have?" Leah stood in front of Luigi protectively at the shadow's words. Shadow L smirked and rushed at the ghost. Just before he got within the ribbon's range he jumped over the ghost and landed behind Luigi. He grabbed the greed clad plumber by the back of the shirt and tossed him into a small collection of benches in the corner of the room. "Luigi!" Leah shouted. "That's one." The shadow laughed. Leah tackled the shadow and quickly attempted to tie her ribbon around his neck to strangle him but he quickly kicked her off. Luigi busted back into the room and barged at the shadow, shooting out a Thunderhand at him in the process. The shadow jumped out of the way and the Thunderhand ended up hitting Leah as she was recovering from the shadow kicking her off. Shadow L undid the ribbon from around his neck and grabbed Luigi. He tried the ribbon around Luigi's neck and began to strangle him. Luigi tried everything he could to escape but he was unable to. "What's wrong Junior? Why do you look so panicked? Are you on your last life?" Shadow L taunted. Leah got up and saw Luigi stop moving. Rage filled her as she rushed toward the shadow. She rammed into Shadow L and knocked him back. Only then did she realize what Shadow L had said. "Last life?" She asked horror filling her voice. "It seems that way, otherwise he would be rushing through that door again. And I don't see him coming." Shadow L smirked. "It's a shame I couldn't kill someone important though." "Excuse me?! The Mushroom Kingdom needs him! He's a hero in his own right!" Leah shouted. "It's not like there is anything you can do about it." Shadow L chuckled began to walk closer to the ghost. Leah could tell by the look on his face that he thought he already won. Leah thought for a moment before backing up to Luigi's body. She decided that the Mushroom Kingdom needed him more than it needed her.

"What are you doing?!"
...

Luigi woke up on the floor. The last thing he remembered was Shadow L strangling him to death. It was strange, he could have sworn that was his last life. He felt...strange. He stood up shakily and looked around. On the ground next to him was a necklace with a blue crystal, he recognized it as Leah's and bent down to pick it up and as he did so he saw his arm. It only took him a second to realize what he was and he screamed. He looked around again frantically to see Shadow L. Looking a mix of shocked and enraged. Luigi could barely focus on his enemy, the only thing running through his mind right then was the realization of what he was. A ghost.
