Chapter 6
Luigi slowly regained his consciousness. His head hurt a bit as he finally opened his eyes. How long was he out? "Oh. Your awake." A voice startled him a bit. He quickly got to his feet and looked at the voices scorce, relaxing once he did. "O-oh. Hi Leah." Luigi said, greeting his ghost friend. Luigi looked around. It seemed they where in a small town. "The stardust pouch is somewhere around here then?" Leah asked. "Most likely." Luigi said. "How are we going to find it with all these places to check?" Leah asked. "Where would we hide a dangerous magical object?" Luigi thought out loud. It would probably have been in a heavily guarded area or the last place the enemy would look. If he where the person....or thing, hiding them, where would he have put the Stardust Pouch? One would expect heavily guarded containment, and one would also expect the last place you would think of. What about a place in the middle though? Luigi looked around. What would be a place no one would think about as the first or last place to look? Luigi spotted a graveyard. He shook in fear but he had to look despite his fear. "Hey Leah?" Luigi said, looking to where the ghost was only to see her back turned to him as she stared at a house not too far away. "Leah?" Luigi asked, getting the girl's attention this time. "Oh. Sorry. Just spacing out." Leah admitted, seemingly slightly embarrassed. "I think I know where to go." Luigi said. Leah gave a small smile and nodded. Luigi began walking to the graveyard. Leah following next to him. Their walk was silent, which didn't help Luigi's nerves. With each step he took towards the graveyard his steps became more and more shaken. He wanted to start up a conversation to help ease his nerves but he didn't know what to say. He and Leah hadn't talked ever since she came back from her trip to the Beanbean kingdom, which was months ago. Then a question popped into his head. "Hey Leah?" Luigi started, getting his friends attention. "Are you still upset?" He asked.
"Upset? What about?" Leah asked. Luigi hesitated. "That Valentines day a couple years back." He mumbled. Leah didn't respond. "I remember the rumors saying that you liked me back then, and after talking to Mario while you where gone, I learned those where true. That was why you couldn't look me or Daisy in the eye for a few days after that. Right?" Leah still stayed silent. She wasn't able to find the words she wanted. "Are you still upset about what happened that day?" Luigi asked. Silence engulfed the air around them with nothing but their steps along the dirt path to break it. "No. That was years ago. Besides, I have a great boyfriend now," Leah started. Before she continued, Luigi felt an arm around his shoulder. "and the greatest best friend in the world." Leah smiled. She pulled her arm back and Luigi smiled at her, his nerves eased a bit. "Your friendship means a lot to me Luigi. If I let something that happened years ago get in the way of it, I don't even know what I would do. I want to be your friend forever." Leah said. "Thanks Leah." Luigi said. They approached the graveyard and it felt like the air around them changed. Luigi's nerves returned to him, but it also felt as if Leah stiffened. Leah took a deep breath and stepped in. She turned back to look at Luigi but he was shaking like a leaf, afraid to take even a step inside. "Are you alright Luigi?" Leah asked. "W-what if there are g-ghosts in t-t-there that want to hurt m-me?" Luigi asked, his voice asking just as much as he was. "Then I'd give up my afterlife to make sure they didn't lay a finger on you." Leah said. She held out her hand to help Luigi. He took it and shakily stepped inside before letting go. "I don't think it would be out in the open like this. It's probably in the church." Leah mumbled. Luigi nodded and began walking with Leah to the church. Leah glanced over at the graves and flinched before looking away. "W-what's wrong?" Luigi asked, looking to where his ghost friend had looked. His eyes where met with a particular grave, it seemed normal. He looked at the name written on it: Leah. Luigi gave a small gasp. "That...that's another Leah right?" Luigi asked. Leah shook her head. "This place was my home."
"And that house you where looking at earlier?"
"Where me and my family lived."
"I thought you said that you didn't remember your life. But you remember your house?"
"Yeah. Uh. That...that was a lie. I remember it crystal clearly. That doesn't mean I want to."
Luigi didn't respond. "So...you remember your death?" He asked after a bit. "Every detail." Leah responded. There was silence. "What happened?" Luigi asked. He knew it was probably a sensitive subject but he also knew what it was like to try to keep things hidden for years. No one but Leah knew what happened when she died, meaning she kept that secret from the moment she woke up as a ghost. "I was murdered by my brother because he hated me. Constantly got his friends to torment and taunt me until I was ready to leave and get away from it all. Then he killed me." Leah explained. "That's the short version." "Did he ever get arrested?" Luigi asked. "Never." Leah responded. Luigi put his hand on Leah's shoulder. "I'm so sorry." He said, not knowing what else to say. "It's ok. If anything dying was the best thing to happen to me." Leah forced a smile. "I wouldn't have met you guys otherwise." Luigi hugged Leah. "I'm always here if you need to talk." Luigi said. Leah hugged back. "I would appreciate that..."
"...Thank you Luigi."
