Chapter 5

"What's up?" Daisy said, turning to Mr.L. "Something is off about this place and I think I just found out what." Mr.L said as he reopened the door behind him and walked through. Daisy seemed confused for a moment before she heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and there was Mr.L. "Wait. What?" Daisy asked. "That's what I'm wondering." Mr.L said. "If everything in this place is going to act like this then we aren't going to make it through here without a map or something." There was silence for a moment before Daisy made her way back outside the abandoned building, Mr.L following. Mr.L turned to the building and examined it a bit more closely. Daisy looked around until her eyes fell on the lake. She walked to it and looked down into it. It was pretty deep. You could see the bottom but just barely. At the bottom she saw what looked to be a chest chained to the ground to keep it from floating back to the top. About half way down a Golden key sat on a ledge. "Hey L." Daisy said. "Maybe we don't have to go into that place after all, the Stardust Pouch might be in there." Mr.L came over to see what she meant.

"Well, it's a possibility." Mr.L said after a while. "I'll see if I can get it." He said, to which Daisy nodded. Mr.L jumped into the water. However, it was pitch black. No light was coming from the surface of the water, he couldn't even tell which way was the surface. He didn't even go that deep before he began to question which way was up. After about thirty seconds he began to need air, not taking any chances he let himself float to the surface. He broke through the surface of the water and swam to the edge of the the lake where Daisy was. "You completely missed the key, what where you thinking?" Daisy asked. "It's pitch black the moment you enter the water." Mr.L said after a second. "We are going to need some kind of light down there or we risk drowning. And I don't exactly have many lives to spare." Mr.L said as he took off his bandana and wrung the water out of it before putting it back on. "Where are we going to get a flashlight out in the middle of the woods?" Daisy asked irritated. Mr.L glared at her for a second. "We aren't."

"Then what are we going to do?"

"Why are you asking me?"

"Because I don't know."

"A princess not knowing something, that's a shocker."

"Excuse m-!"

Daisy was cut off by the sound of movement in the bushes. Daisy and Mr.L prepared for a fight. For a moment nothing happened, then two familiar faces poked their heads out of the bushes. (Y/N) and Mario sighed with relief when they saw Mr.L and Daisy. "See (Y/N)? I told you we would be fine." Mario said before walking out of the bushes to meet up with their friends. "How did you guys find us?" Daisy asked. "Or where you just not that far away?" "Oh. We where actually pretty deep in the woods." Mario said. Then (Y/N) chipped in. "We didn't know which way we should go, and while we where pondering a bit of stardust escaped the pouch and we had to follow its glow to track it down. Apparently it led us here. Must be Rosalina's magic at work."

Daisy and Mr.L glanced at each other for a second. "Any chance we could borrow the pouch for a minuet?" Daisy asked. "Why?" Mario asked. "If it gives of a glow then more than likely it can cast enough light for us to see in the lake." Mr.L said. "There is a chest down there and we think it might have the Stardust pouch inside it." Mario and (Y/N) each other before nodding. Mario gave Daisy the Stardust pouch. The friends walked over to the lake and Mr.L handed Daisy his hat. Daisy gave him the pouch in return. Mr.L dived into the water just before Mario gave Daisy an odd look. "What?" Daisy said before she realized. "Oh. You didn't want to give him the pouch...did you?" She chuckled nervously.

Under the water, it was a lot more clear. Mr.L could actually see what he was doing and where he was going, to an extent. Eventually he reached the ledge with the key resting on it. He reached out and grabbed the key, realizing he should probably quicken the pace if he didn't want to drown. It didn't take long for Mr.L to reach the bottom. He quickly checked the chains connecting the chest to the ground, seeing that they needed a key. He quickly used the key to unlock the chains, allowing the chest to float to the surface. Must be air in it. Mr.L thought as he quickly swam up. He soon broke the surface of the water and swam to the edge, pulling himself back into dry ground. Mario, Daisy and (Y/N) had pulled the chest out of the water. After taking some time to regain his lost air Mr.L walked over and handed the pouch back to Mario. Daisy handed Mr.L his hat back and the dark green clad mechanic took out they key he had gotten from the ledge. He doubted it would work on the chest as it had unlocked the chains but it was worth a shot. Somehow he managed to unlock the chest with that key.

Inside the chest where five papers. On each paper was what seemed to be a map, the corners of each where labeled from one to five. On the paper labeled with two there was a note, it read: Do not come to this floor under any circumstance, no one goes near the Stardust pouch. "Well, we now know where the Stardust Pouch is." Daisy said. "The second floor shouldn't be two difficult to get to." Mario said confidently. (Y/N) however noticed something. "Well, apparently we need to get to floor five before we get to floor two." They said. On the maps the doors where labeled as where they would go. The only door that led to floor two was on floor five. "That's a strange way to make a place. Luckily there is a short through floor three." Mr.L chuckled. Daisy was already beginning to make her way to the abandoned building.

Mario held the maps as the group stepped across the threshold once again. He looked down at the map of floor one. "The closest door to floor three is over here." He said as he began walking, the others quickly following behind him. Daisy stepped through the door to floor three a little more hesitant than the rest. She didn't know if it would actually work but it was worth a shot. Once she stepped through she noticed that it looked different than the previous room and relaxed, giving a small sigh of relief. Then she felt something quickly grab her and slam her against a wall. "Daisy!" Mario and
(Y/N) shouted. Daisy quickly got her head together as she realized who did it. A shadow version of Luigi. "Why hello Daisy." The shadow smiled, it's voice sounding both semi-demonic and sickeningly sweet. "I didn't think you of all people would be coming to visit me now. Sadly I'm doing a job right now so-" The shadow was cut off by Mr.L as the dark green clad mechanic delivered a swift kick to the shadows side to get him off Daisy. "You talk too much." Mr.L said simply before grabbing Daisy and pulling her back with the others. Shadow Luigi lunged at Mr.L out of anger, only for the mechanic to duck, causing the shadow to fly right over him and land on (Y/N) instead. "(Y/N)!" Mario shouted as he ran over to help his friend. Mr.L grabbed Daisy by the arm and began running to the next door. "Where are we going?!" Daisy asked. "Where do you think?" Mr.L replied. "You don't even have the maps!" Daisy scolded. "Don't need them.  One thing you don't know about me. Good memorization skills." Mr.L said, pushing Daisy through a door then entering himself. "We aren't seriously leaving them behind are we?" Daisy asked. "They have fought a shadow before, besides we are on the fifth floor now." Mr.L shrugged. "This is exactly why people hate you." Daisy scolded. "I asked out of curiosity, not because I care." Mr.L chuckled. They began to make their way through the fifth floor. However Daisy couldn't help but wonder. Mr.L would apparently leave (Y/N) and Mario behind in a heartbeat, but then why did he help her? "Hey." Daisy said. "Why did you help me?" Mr.L looked back at her. "I'm not heartless. Thanks to Leah's constant reading I know more about the shadows than what you would expect me to know. Including the magnification of the bad parts of ones personality. That can turn something like love, into obsession. And considering that was a shadow version of Junior..." Mr.L stopped himself as if Daisy got the point. Which she did.

The next seconds happened in a flash. Mr.L was grabbed and thrown against a wall, causing him to fall to the ground. While he shakily tried to get up his attacker grabbed Daisy again. This time though, Daisy punched Shadow Luigi in the gut. He doubled over in pain allowing Daisy to quickly go over and help Mr.L. Mr.L quickly whispered something to Daisy and though the princess was hesitant she ran out of the room.

Shadow Luigi was about to follow Daisy but a ball of green electricity hit him square in the face. "So, you want a fight? Fine, let's f-" Shadow Luigi had his legs kicked out from under him. Mr.L proper one foot on Shadow Luigi's chest to keep him down. "You just don't shut up do you." He smirked. "You won't hurt me, after all I'm a part of you." Shadow Luigi said. "Try me." Mr.L said "Your not even a part of Junior. Your just a copy."

"And your not?"

"I'm not going to go over this again." Mr.L sighed in annoyance. He stepped off of the shadow and quickly grabbed him, pinning him to the wall with one hand. A ball of green electricity formed in his free hand. Shadow Luigi was hit dead on and went limp. Mr.L dropped him and began to walk away to find Daisy. Before he reached the door to floor two he was grabbed by the back of his shirt. "Your too confident in your strength." Shadow Luigi said. Mr.L was then thrown through a different door. Once he landed he realized that he door he was thrown though led to an almost chamber like area. The door was too high up for a normal person to reach, even by jumping. "Now if you excuse me. I have to go find Daisy." Shadow Luigi said before walking away. Mr.L quickly looked around for anything that could help him, only to be met with two other faces. Mario and (Y/N).

Daisy walked through the halls of the second floor. Mr.L had told her which door led to the second floor. He had told her to look for the Stardust pouch. Somehow, the second floor seemed more like a maze to her than any of the other floors. Sometimes hallways had dead ends and no doors, sometimes she goes to open a door only to blink and see the door is no longer there. Whoever wrote that note as probably referring to this chaos when they wrote that no one was to go there. Was the way this place acted connected with the Stardust pouch in some way? Daisy was about to try another door when she heard footsteps coming from somewhere. She stiffened a bit. She was both curious about who was there and a bit nervous. Maybe it's just Mr.L, or Mario and (Y/N). Daisy said, however her hopeful thoughts where drowned out by one sentence. "Oh Daisy~. Where are you?" The voice of Shadow Luigi rang out from wherever he was. Based on the sound of footsteps, he was getting closer. Quickly but quietly Daisy entered into the room in front of her. It seemed to be a bedroom, meaning the only places to hide where a closet and under a bed. Not the best hiding spots in the world. Daisy forced herself to hide in the closet. It was a bit of a tight fit but nothing too unbearable. Next to Daisy a parasol was leaned against the of the walls. Remembering that Peach tended to use a parasol for battle, Daisy thought it might be able to be used as a weapon, or at the very least something to hit someone on the back of the head with. The thought made Daisy feel a bit more secure. From outside the closet the creaking of an opening door broke the silence. Daisy stiffened and her breath seemed to stop. The seconds seemed to last an eternity as the princess heard footsteps moved around the room, looking for her. "Surely my princess isn't an idiot. There is no way she would hide in here. She's smarter than that." The voice of Shadow Luigi rang through the room. After another few seconds Daisy heard the door open and close again, more than likely signifying that the obsessed shadow left the room. Daisy didn't move for a few seconds, she wished to calm down before she stepped out. Just as Daisy was about to open the closet and walk out she heard something mumble: "Huh. Guess she really isn't an idiot."  Followed by the door opening and closing again. The realization that he almost tricked her out of hiding hit Daisy like a brick. What if he was still waiting out there? Daisy needed something to defend herself with. She grabbed the parasol and tried to calm herself before she stepped out. This time the shadow really had left. However he was still in the hunt for her, she had to be careful. Daisy quietly exited the room and began sneaking down the hallway. Mr.L hadn't told Daisy if the Stardust Pouch's location was even marked on the map, so she had to keep looking. Daisy tried to keep herself quiet as she walked. Sadly in these kinds of situations, even her breath sounded like it could cause an avalanche in the mountains. Every time Daisy heard footsteps that weren't her own she went into a room to hide. It didn't matter what room it was, she always hid, even if he didn't come in. Daisy might have been confident and competitive in any normal situation, this wasn't a normal situation. Yeah, she wanted to punch that shadow in the face ten times over. However something in her current situation told her she wouldn't be able to do it, that no matter what she did she would be caught. For some reason, she didn't feel like herself. Sometimes the feeling of fear grew, other times it felt like she was almost back to normal. As Daisy walked down a hallway she hadn't walked through before, the feeling reached its max, she wanted to dive into a room and hide at the slightest sign of movement or sound from anything. Then she heard footsteps approaching her once again. She quickly made her way into the nearest room. She felt like she could collapse and cry, until a glint of purple caught her attention. To her left, buried under many other things, was a small pouch, slightly opened to see at least a hundred tiny purple crystals inside. Daisy instantly dug it out from the pile, knowing that she had finally found what she came here for. The moment she touched the pouch, she felt like she could breath again. All the fear she felt was gone. Now she felt like her normal, confident self. "So this thing can cause trouble simply by being around..." Daisy mumbled, piecing together that this thing was what made her feel afraid. "Well." A voice she didn't want to hear chimed in. "It seems you found my little item for me." Daisy turned to see Shadow Luigi. "How about you give that to me. Once this job is done we will be able to spend so much time together." Shadow Luigi said. Daisy smirked as she turned to the shadow. "Sure sweetie. I would love to." Daisy said sweetly. She walked over, seemingly ready to give the Stardust pouch to the shadow. Then as she got there, she hit him in the gut with her parasol. "If you where Luigi." She finished. "Clever girl." Shadow Luigi smirked. He had taken a good beating from Mr.L, (Y/N) and Mario earlier. He knew that if he where to get into a fight with Daisy, more than likely he wouldn't win. "This is why I fell for you." Shadow Luigi said. "Mr.L was right about one thing." Daisy remarked as Shadow Luigi approached her. "And what would that be?" The shadow asked. Daisy jabbed the parasol forward, straight through the shadows chest. "You talk too much." Daisy said, pulling back. Shadow Luigi said nothing as he fell to the ground, seeming to melt into it. Daisy took a moment before walking out of the room.

As she backtracked to the fifth floor she saw Mr.L and (Y/N) pulling Mario through a door. "Uh..." she stared. "Don't ask." Mr.L and (Y/N) said in unison. Soon enough the four friends where walking across the threshold again to the outside. "You defeated the shadow yourself?" Mr.L asked. "Don't tell me you doubted me." Daisy joked. "Maybe a little." Mr.L chuckled. (Y/N) took the Stardust Pouch that Daisy had gotten and opened it. A few small specks of Stardust flew out and began glowing as they flew off. "Let's-a go!" Mario said as he began running after the light, his three friends trailing behind him.
