Getting Detention and Meeting Other People

Disclaimer: AJ and I don't own Les Mis. Victor Hugo does. Now that that's over, on with the story!!

Kaylin's POV:

Finally Calculus is over. Although I am good at it, it's one of my least favorite subjects. Now, Enjolras, Combeferre, and I are off to Mr. Javert's AP United States Government and Politics class. I'm very apprehensive for this class, as Enjolras said Mr. Javert is a terrible teacher.

"So why is Mr. Javert not a good teacher?" I ask Enjolras as we walk through the hallways to Mr. Javert's classroom. Enjolras sighs and runs a hand through his blonde hair.

"He's basically the opposer to Les Amis de l'ABC. AJ is literally the only student he likes, but that's because nobody pays attention in his classes other than her. He's trying to split us up because 'high school kids have no business changing the world.'" Combeferre buts into our conversation.

"You also don't like him because Javert failed you in history." Enjolras blushes a deep, dark red.

"No, Ferre, that's not the only reason why I dislike him," Enjolras says, glaring at the man in question. "I dislike him because his classes talk about things that we should probably know if we have passed seventh grade." We walk into the classroom and the first thing I notice about the teacher, Mr. Javert, is how tall he is. He towers over every single student in the room, including Enjolras who isn't short at all. Enjolras rolls his eyes at the professor and walks, no... more like struts, over to a row of chairs in the middle of the classroom and then sits down at one, me following him. I see a woman filming Enjolras's entrance into the classroom, hand covering her mouth to muffle the giggles I'm certain are a product of Enjolras's dramatics. I walk over to Enjolras and sit down next to him.

"So what was that strut for?" I whisper quietly to him as we pull out our spiral notebooks.

Enjolras smirks. "The only reason I like this class is because I can annoy the teacher." He winks at me and I'm forced to stifle a laugh. Then, Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Miserables blares to life from Enjolras's phone, clad in a red case. He pulls it out and lets the song play for as long as humanly possible, trying to annoy Javert to within an inch of his sanity. Finally he opens his phone with his fingerprint and checks his text messages, which was why the ringtone came on in the first place. He stares at a text and then swivels in his seat, glaring at the woman who was filming earlier. She has hair much like Musichetta's in a ponytail with a gray streak, and about the same height as well. Could this be AJ? I mean, Courfeyrac is sitting next to her, her almost in his lap if you could call that 'sitting.' Enjolras slyly angles his hand out towards the mysterious woman, middle finger pointing directly at her. Instead of gasping or telling the teacher or something like that, she rolls her eyes and leans closer to Courfeyrac and whispers in his ear. Courfeyrac looks directly at Enjolras's middle finger and starts to laugh, quietly at first and then increasing in intensity and frequency. Enjolras rolls his eyes and brings his hand around back to the front of the classroom, no fingers pointing.

"Who was that?" I whisper quietly to him.

"That, is AJ. Musichetta's younger twin sister, Courfeyrac's girlfriend, and general pain in my a**," he says, angling his phone screen towards me. I look down at it and see a text with a video attachment. The text reads: AJ: Look at Enjy strutting into his favorite class. It's just *chef's kiss.* And Enj, who's the girl?. I blink for a second and then click on the video, and Enjolras's strut from just minutes before plays with "I'm Sexy and I Know It" by Justin Bieber in the background. I bite back a laugh, apparently not very well because Enjolras rolls his eyes at me. "Exactly, ha-ha so hilarious," he says the last two words loud enough so that AJ can hear him, sarcasm bleeding from each syllable. Enjolras types back something and sends it: Enjolras: Stop AJ. It's not funny. And her name's Kaylin, she's a new student here.

"Phones away class," Mr. Javert barks out harshly. Everyone complies, Enjolras zipping his phone in his backpack pocket melodramatically. Javert glares at Enjolras as if he's an escaped criminal that Javert has been hunting for like seventeen years. We begin the class by talking about our summer vacations, making Javert increasingly more angry until he cuts us off. "We are going to start with Thomas Jefferson." Courfeyrac raises his hand in the back, next to AJ. "Yes, Mr. Courfeyrac?" Javert says monotonely.

"AJ is related to the Jeffersons," Courfeyrac informs (A/N: This information was thought up by Grantairecourfeyracx, not me, and the parts about AJ sassing Javert).

"Cool. Do I look like I care?" My eyes widen at Javert's blatant annoyance with his students. Enjolras leans over and whispers in my ear.

"And this is why I don't like him."

AJ smirks and leans back in her chair, the bottom two legs the only part touching the floor. "Thanks, sir, for the sentiment," she says sassily, saluting Mr. Javert.

"In 1801, Thomas Jefferson was elected the third President of the United States of America." AJ interrupts him. She seems like a sass queen.

"Oh, you mean my great, great, great, great, great-uncle Jefferson?" I start to laugh quietly but stop immediately once Javert glares at me.

"Sure, kid, whatever you say."

"John Adams ran against Thomas Jefferson in 1801, but he lost. However, it was a very close vote, only broken by Alexander Hamilton's endorsement of Jefferson." I raise my hand. "Yes, Ms. Lambert?"

"Excuse me, Mr. Javert, but I'm pretty sure that Aaron Burr ran against Thomas Jefferson in 1801," I say politely. Then, the man's face turns a dark red. I look over at Enjolras, confused, and whisper to him, "Uhhh Enjolras, what did I do?"

"He doesn't like people correcting him. I know that from experience," he murmurs quietly to me.

"Did I ask you to speak?! Then don't speak; that's what you need to know newbie," Javert snaps at me.

"But she is right sir, Jefferson only won because Hamilton endorsed him," AJ defends me. I turn around and smile at her, and she winks at me.

"Oh be quiet Swiffen. No one likes a nerd so no one likes you," Javert says rudely.

AJ mumbles quietly, so that only Enjolras, Courfeyrac, and I can hear her, "Well that was bitchy." I almost burst into laughter but luckily hide it with a fake cough.

"Swiffen and Lambert, you will both be getting detention after school for mouthing off." My jaw drops. I was just correcting him!! Enjolras glares at Javert, opening his mouth to retort. I kick his leg under the desk, getting him to shut up before he gets a detention as well.

Courfeyrac grabs the girl's hands and is about to say something. The bell rang and cut him off. Everyone starts to leave. "Bye girl good luck you'll need it," Javert hisses in my ear. I gulp and go off with Enjolras. The girl that is called Swiffen, AJ, goes over to Courf. He drags her off. I thought that he is going to tell her a secret so I shrug it off. It is time for lunch so I went into the cafeteria.

"Kaylin, come on!" Enjolras calls as he swerves around students in the cafeteria, getting to a table filled, and I mean absolutely filled, with people. I recognize everyone from Grantaire's drawing on the desk. It was so detailed and very helpful. Then, I see Musichetta's younger twin sister seated on Courfeyrac's lap and kissing him as if her life was ending. Charming.

"Oi, AJ, stop eating Courf's face off!" Musichetta exclaims as she sits down next to her sister, "You're traumatizing the ickle freshmen." The woman looks pointedly over to Gavroche and Adrian, who are talking between themselves about random things that I really don't understand. AJ resurfaces from Courfeyrac's mouth and rolls her eyes, slipping off of the man's lap. I slide onto the bench connected to the metal table, sitting in between Enjolras and Combeferre, who is absorbed in a book about moths.

"Hi, I'm Kaylin," I say, sticking my hand out to AJ. "Kaylin Lambert."

"Hi, I'm Alexia Ariana Bofana Chandler Hallow Swiffen the 24th. Don't ask what happened to the other 23, I don't know. Everyone calls me AJ or The Duke. I'm dating Courfeyrac by the way," she says. I just blink at her.

"....how do you remember all of that?" I say incredulously. She shrugs. We begin to eat, talking about anything that comes to our minds. "Is Javert always that...." I trail off, thinking for a word to end that sentence.

"Rude? Infuriating? Terrible?" Enjolras rattles off a long stream of adjectives that all describe the teacher from hell. I agree and look expectedly at Alexia, or AJ as she would like to be called.

"Uhhh yes. I'm literally the only one he tolerates because I'm the only one that pays attention in his classes. Even Enjy, the one geared up to be senior valedictorian, ignores him."

"How many times must I tell you to stop calling me that?!?" Enjolras retorts.

"Not nearly enough," AJ says, winking at the man. "Hey, Kaylin, what's your phone number? I have an inkling that we're going to be best friends."

I slowly tell her my phone number, giving her time to plug the digits into her phone. "202-555-0112." She types something and then I hear the beginning notes of Red and Black ringing through my phone speakers. Enjolras looks over at me and raises an eyebrow. I smirk at him and pull my phone out of my backpack pocket. The screen lights up, bearing a text from "Unknown Number" that I know now is AJ. I add her to my contacts and then turn my phone off, putting it in my skirt pocket. I think AJ and I are going to be good friends.

Author's Note: Okay this chapter is done. Well we met @Grantairecourfeyracx and we got Javert's terrible class. He's very rude. And AJ and I have detention now with him. What fun *eyeroll*. Hopefully you enjoyed.
