Chapter 4
"Alright Leo, think!" Leo racked his brain for any ideas.
"Leo, couldn't we just call Festus? Grab the whistle!" Calypso suggested rapidly.
Leo nodded and begun frantically summoning it out of his tool belt. As the baby eagles moved in, Leo's hands only grasped at emptiness, the tool belt needed more time to recharge after the hammer that, Leo realised guiltily, he had dropped.
"It's not there!" Leo exclaimed, "the tool belt needs to recharge,"
"And you didn't think it would have been a good idea to keep holding onto the whistle!" Calypso replied, annoyed.
"Uhh, I'm sorry I can't hold onto a tiny whistle while being abducted by a giant eagle!"
"Whatever," Calypso muttered under her breath.
"Wait," Leo's eyes gleamed as he thought of an idea.
"Oh no,"
"Oh yes! Watch and learn from the master," Leo said, clearly proud of his idea.
Leo stepped forward and started wildly flapping his arms and squawking. Calypso and the baby Eagles stopped moving and just stared. The Eagles stopped and looked at each other like, what the Hades is this pathetic human attempting to do?
"Leo, you are incredibly stupid." Calypso said out of the corner of her mouth, "How is this meant to help us?"
Leo paused mid squawk and looked back at her, "I'm buying time so you can think of a plan, genius. I'm also making the eagles think I am one of them so they don't eat me, isn't that obvious?"
Calypso opened her mouth to reply, but then shut it because she had no idea how to respond to that. The baby eagle that seemed to be in charge cocked its head and watched the tiny mortal dance around and squeak, wondering if terror had driven it to insanity.
"Well Leo, if we're being baby Eagles then why don't we just jump off the nest and fly away?" Calypso snapped.
"That's stupid, baby eagles can't fly yet, genius," Leo said patronisingly, thinking he was stating the obvious.
In that moment that Leo stopped squawking the eagle chicks got over their confusion and started advancing again, "Start squawking, Leo! Squawk!" Calypso shouted frantically.
"Join me! It will make it more realistic!" Leo shouted back, still flapping his arms around like a maniac.
"You can't be serious, please tell me you're joking," Calypso said desperately.
"Well, you don't need to flap, because... you know," he said gesturing at her injured shoulders, "but otherwise I'm deadly serious,"
"Squawk," Calypso said, dejectedly.
"You need more feeling in your squawks, you need to become one with the eagle, feel the squawk, be the squawk, like this," Leo demonstrated his squawk.
Calypso let out another, slightly less dejected, squawk, "The gods are rolling around on the floor laughing at me right now, aren't they?
However humiliating Calypso's squawking was it managed to confuse the two Eagles even more, so they stopped advancing, just looked around in bewilderment at the two little mortals who had clearly lost their minds.
Leo ran, still squawking, up to the smallest eagle who he decidedly named Vladamir and vaulted onto it's back. He finally stopped trying to imitate a baby eagle and grabbed onto the fluffy down on the eagles back. Vladamir let out a screech of its own and tried to shake Leo off, but to no avail. Leo clung on desperately, knowing that if he fell he would be crushed beneath the eagles talons.
Calypso's next squawk caught in her throat as she watched Leo flail around.
The bigger eagle, who Leo named Bob, strutted over to Vladamir, who Leo was still riding, and made a move to grab him, but Leo rolled and Bob accidentally pecked Vladamir's wing.
Valdamir stopped trying to shake Leo off and cocked its head, staring accusingly at Bob. Vladamir pecked Bob in retaliation and Leo quickly slid off of Vladamir's back, narrowly escaping the razor sharp talons as a fight broke out between the brothers.
"I can't believe that worked," Calypso mused as Leo grabbed her and dragged her to the other side of the ginormous nest.
"Yeah, thank me later, hot stuff, Please tell me you have a plan?"
" Yes, I do."
And with that she grabbed Leo's hand and jumped off of the nest, plunging to the ground.
