Chapter 1

Leo grinned at Calypso, shouting over the wind roaring in their ears, "So Sunshine, where to?"

Calypso shrugged and tucked a strand of her caramel colored hair behind her ear, only to have it blow back in her face. She sighed in frustration, so far, being out of Ogygia wasn't exactly the freedom she'd imagined when she first stepped onto the flying bronze dragon named Festus; but nonetheless she was grateful for the escape. Calypso tightened her hold around Leo's waist and gazed down at the world below them. There was blue everywhere, miles and miles of blue oceans ranging in hues from cerulean to ultramarine to royal. The dark surfaces of the waves crashed into eachother, spraying white foam into the air, casting sparkling jewels to all sides. She could see a herd of Hippocampi galloping on the waves and Leo directed Festus downward to get a closer look. Then they rose into the sky and flew through puffs of clouds that, despite popular opinion, really did taste like cotton candy. Soon the noise of roaring wind mixed with the gentle crashing of the waves gradually lulled Calypso to sleep.

"Hey mamacita! Wake up sleepy head!" Leo shook Calypso awake.

Calypso groaned and squinted into the bright light. "Don't call me mamacita."

She looked around her, there were wooden buildings everywhere, sitting on top of cobblestone streets with people bustling around them. The people were tan and as she looked behind her, Calypso saw a port filled with houseboats and rickety fishing boats. She herself was laying on a bench on top of the roof of a building that was about four meters off the ground.

Calypso stood up and Leo whistled approvingly, "Wow hot stuff! You sure you're not related to Piper McLean?"

Calypso pulled a face, "Hilarious Leo, did you find out where we are?"

Leo grinned, "Don't worry Sunshine, Uncle Leo's got it down!" He brushed a lock of his unruly dark brown hair out of his face and dug around in his magic tool belt. He came out victoriously with a bag of chips that had so many colors and words, Calypso squinted. Leo opened the package with a satisfying pop and held the bag out for her, "They've got Fonzies!"

Calypso raised an eyebrow, but she had to admit that she was starving. She took one out and crunched it between her teeth. "Not bad."

Leo grinned again, "I know right? Got me out of a serious jam with a tollbooth officer." Calypso raised her eyebrow again. Leo shook his head, "Don't ask."

At this point Calypso was seriously concerned for her friend's sanity. "Ok, but where are we? And where is Festus?" Looking around the rooftop, she saw no sign of Leo's faithful bronze  dragon.

"Oh yeah," Leo scratched the back of his neck, "Festus is flying around somewhere, I have a wistle so it should be fine." Seeing Calypso's face he added, "Long story, nearly killed by Medea and her sun dragons, needed to call Festus back- you know." Calypso shook her head slowly. "Anyways..." Leo continued awkwardly, "I understood some of the language. It sounded a bit like Spanish so I'm guessing Italian."

"We're in Italy?!" Calypso shrieked.

"Yeah," Leo said wincing, "Not quite sure why..."

Calypso sat down on the ground defeatedly, "The gods hate me."

Leo sat down next to her, putting his arm around her shoulder, "You have me, and I will get you out of this."

Calypso smiled, leaning into his chest, "Yeah, I know."She stood up and stretched, her muscles aching from the hard wood of the bench.

Leo grinned, squinting into the distance looking for something. "Festus should be here any second now," As if on cue a dark silhouette became visible, rapidly growing on the horizon. The large bronze and gold dragon's wings created downdrafts whipping Calypso's hair around her face.

"Subtly really doesn't mean anything to your dragon, does it?" complained Calypso, noting the gathering crowd of mortals watching the rooftop. The mist, a magical force that obscures supernatural and godly actions from the eyes of mortals, could only do so much. Calypso had no idea what the mortals watching were seeing right then, probably a helicopter landing or something like that.
