Prologue

POV Helena

6 months, it's been 6 months since I left Toronto, my mate, Luke and my pack. The loneliness eats at me here and my nightmares are back. I never thought of why I didn't had them anymore when I was with Eros but since I'm gone they are back and more cruel than ever. Not only do I relive my parents death, I also see my real parents rotting in a cage without a face and then I see Eros laying bloody on the ground, ripped apart.

But when I wake up I realise that it was again a nightmare and that I'm still alone.

I live in an old, small cabin deep in the woods of Oregon. It has been from a witch. I can tell because this place was filled with dark objects and it practically smelled like mythical creature, making the Huntress in me awake.

In these months I've been by myself I learned to become one with my other side. It took a lot of practise and a few times I almost killed an innocent person who was just passing around here.

But now it doesn't take control like it did, it still does but I'm still myself and can fight against it. But I sometimes still startle as I see how I look when my other side comes floating to the surface. The skin under my eyes looks grey and my irises are blood red. My fangs are like a thin bony layer that come over teeth and are very sharp.

Now I'm sitting on a chair at the small table in front of me. The cabin is very small. At my right against the wall is a small kitchen. In the corner a door to just a toilet. The washing happens outside in the lake a few miles away.

Then diagonally behind me there is a small bed that creaks when you turn around to much in your sleep. And then against the left side there is a small table with one chair where I am sitting.

I look around and am actually grateful for this. It's small but I have everything I need to survive.

I sigh as I think about Luke. I promised to find a way to contact him but I still haven't. I wonder if he is worried and how Eros is doing.

I shake my head and suddenly my instincts say that a mythical creature is around. I stand up and feel how my fangs come out and my eyes turn red. I slowly walk towards the door. I hear how it comes closer.

I hear it's breathing just behind the door. I go to stand on the side from the door while trying to control myself. I hear it's heartbeat. It's steady.

I see how the doorknob moves and slowly it opens. I can't see who it is since I'm behind the door and the person still hasn't walked further inside.

The moment he does I kick the door shut and lunge myself at the person. Slamming it against the wall with my arm pressed firmly against its throat.

When I look at the person I notice it's a man. Maybe a few years older than me with hair that almost touches his shoulders and bright yellow eyes. He has a tight jawline and a light stubble on his face.

I snarl at him, feeling the need to rip his throat out.

"Easy there Tiger, I don't mean no harm. It actually hurts me you don't recognise me." He says and shows a fake pout and then lets out a laugh. I press my arm harder against his neck making him grimace. "Is this the way you treat someone who wants to help you?"

And with that I let him go and he gasps for air. He leans forward and coughs. "You got a strong hold there Foxie." He says with a smile.

"Who are you?" I ask straight to the point. My urges are screaming to end his life but I refrain.

"Look good, babydoll. Such a handsome face you don't see often." He smirks at me and then licks his lips while he looks around.

I see how his yellow eyes roam around and suddenly they turn brown. He looks back at me with raised eyebrows as to say 'got it yet."

I feel like I know him from somewhere but I can't tell exactly. He looks familiar, well his eyes.

And suddenly it clicks. He is one of the rogues from Norman's group. I show my teeth at him before grabbing him and throwing him against the closest wall. He falls on his stomach and groans.

He sits up slowly, clutching his ribcage. "I think you mistake me for someone else." He says with another groan.

"You are one of those rogues!" I say with venom in my voice. I make my way over to him but he quickly puts a hand out to stop me.

"Yes I am but we've met before." He says and that makes me frown. I walk over to him and grab him by the collar, pulling him to standing.

"Speak up!" I say dangerously. "And don't tell lies because I can and will rip your throat out of you do. It takes me much restraint to not kill you this instant."

He swallows but starts talking. "Remember, you came back to Richmond Hill." I tighten my grip on his shoulder making him wince. "Since you returned to your mates pack you started feeling strange. Your curse was starting to activate. You were on the side of the road, laying there gasping for air. I helped you. I gave you a mixture of herbs to keep the signs at bay for a while. I got it from a witch and that's the truth."

I let him go. "Why did you help me? You don't know me." I state and wait for his response.

He shakes his head with a small smile. "I do know you babydoll and I think you will be surprised when I tell you what I know about you."
