Warmth

In the dark, I traveled a frozen wasteland

Until you walked by, torch in hand, and reminded me what warmth felt like

I came with you, talked, laughed, following the light that eventually melted the icy grounds

My feet became wet, but the cold had gone

Water fed the lands, the flame you carried becoming a sun that illuminated my world and created a field of green

I admired its beauty, then yours

But when I turned back to you, you were gone, continuing down your own path towards a dark place, your light shriveled

My feet shivered then, but I could still see you far away and across oceans and continents, feeling your warmth, yearning

Should I stay, should I go - I thought, "Better not," and walked away. But the field was gorgeous, watered without your knowledge, and the sun you left behind shined brightly

It reminded me of you, and the once embracing warmth on my back began to burn

---

I search for the remedy at the shore, watching a flickering flame trek through the darkness on the horizon - my heart thumps loudly, but my back is cool and my chest is warm

I've got my own torch, now I just need a boat
