History and Evolution
Okay, this probably won't be as in-depth as the last update, but randomness and inconsistency is my specialty, so here we go.
Anyway. Evolution is literally everywhere. Throwing away the idea of religion (not to say that religions are bad, but for the sake of this update, let's go with the idea that humans branched from apes), evolution began from the beginning of time, with bacteria, evolving into sea creatures and eventually land animals (dinosaurs), and later, what we have today.
But arguably, humans are one of the most interesting evolved creatures. Like, mostly because of two things: for one, our brains (complex, more so than most animals), and for two, our learning. Where animals can learn things over time and evolve because of natural selection- giraffes with long necks succeed in living, whereas the ones with short necks die off because of starvation- they can't LEARN (most of them- don't quote me on this).
Koalas are one example. Koalas eat mainly eucalyptus leaves. Specially eucalyptus leaves right off of the trees. As in, if you were to pick a bunch of eucalyptus leaves and put it on the floor in front of a koala, the koala would stare at it as if it were an inedible object.
Dolphins are another, different example. Dolphins eat different fish. They hunt on their own in the wild to survive, just as koalas pick their own leaves (and will not eat leaves on their own), however, if you were to put a fish that they can eat in front of them, the dolphin would eat (I know, crazy).
The difference between dolphins and koalas is precisely this: their brains are different (fun fact: people who were considered very smart, like Albert Einstein, actually had smaller than average brains). Koalas have a decent sized brain for their bodies, and the same for dolphins, HOWEVER, koalas have smooth brains. Dolphins, not so much.
This plays back into humans x2. For one, humans have, again, have complex brains. Human brains are not smooth, just like dolphins, but much more wrinkle-ly than dolphins have. But another thing is learning. I'm not saying that all animals can't learn- like, some can, with more complex brains than koalas (they mainly eat eucalyptus leaves that they can't recognize as actual food unless they're the ones that pick them off the tree). But it's not even just like the education system. It's history.
History is actually something that we all need to learn from. And humans are the only ones that can/do document their history (unless- *gasp*- the dolphins!). And history is very important, because, for example, if you fail at a math test, you can study what you failed. Or even with other people, like role models and setting examples for other people (looking at you, George Washington). Because now, if you find yourself in a situation others have been in, there's something you can do about it.
So, I bring this all up because when I was in the hospital recently, the nurses and staff there really stuck with me. Because society has evolved to the point of having nurses and doctors and medicine for different situations.
And even more than this, literally everything is new. Like, police officers are new because of crime, and crime is a thing because humans exist, and humans exist because of evolution, and evolution caused literally everything we have.
I guess I just wonder how different everything could be with the slightest change that was made in everything else. What would've happened if the U.S. never broke from Britain? What would've happened if the U.S. had actually helped the French during their revolution?
And in our evolution in general, what if humans weren't the top species? What would be? How would the world have ended up without humans on it? What would've happened if our medicines and doctors and nurses were never as advanced as they are today?
I dunno, I guess it's just crazy to think how different our lives could be... This is a very long chapter, so I'm just gonna go now. BYEEE.
