Way of the Ninja
(Be prepared. This is a long one).
It's been a while since I took Master Wu's offer and have been living with him in the Monastery. I have not only been given a place to live but I was also given new clothes. I had mainly worn long-sleeved shirts and pants to hide my.... They were mainly dark-colored so I could blend into the shadows. My new clothes were mainly black, a Gi to be more precised.
He has been teaching me the ancient art of Spinjitzu. The way of the Ninja. I honestly didn't mind the training, it was a good workout and pushed my limits. When I wasn't training I had been reading the books Wu had bought me. I had told him he didn't have to but he told me it was no big deal. I have also been learning to cook, as a way to thank Wu.
I look in the mirror as I pulled my long hair back and tie it into a braid. I look at myself and see that my eye bags had faded a bit. I was cleaner but I still was a little guarded. I have asked Wu as to what there is about me that was special. But he told me that the time will come.
I left the bathroom and walk down the halls as I head to the training ground. I slide the doors open and I see Master Wu standing in the center. Staff in hand and his back to me, he looks like he's thinking. I didn't know what to do. Should I say something or leave and give him some space.
"(Y/N)." I break out of my thoughts as I give my attention to Wu. He turns around to look at me, "I will be heading off." He says. "To where?" I ask him. "Ninjago will need all the help it can get. My brother will stop at nothing to obtain the Golden Weapons." That's another thing. After I had gotten situated in the Monastery, Wu had told me about his brother, Garmadon. How he was corrupted by evil and had wanted to use the Golden Weapons to turn Ninjago into his own image.
"So, you will be recruiting more students?" I ask. More students mean more people and I was nervous. "Not just any students. And while I may bring them here to train, you must remain hidden until it is time to meet." He tells me. I nod, "But, how will you know?" I question. "Sometimes, they are things you just know. Along with having a certain spark inside, such as yourself." He tells me, gently. I think a little about his words then look at him again nod.
After that, my training had come to use. Being able to use the shadows before joining Wu had definitely given me an advantage. He had gone off and found three students so far. The first is a muscular guy with raven hair and was more strength based. He is sarcastic, witty, and a little hard-headed. But is definitely more mature than the other two. The second one is less muscular, more lean, and had short reddish-brown hair. He was quick but had quite the mouth. He could go on and on for some time. And the last one is quite strange. He had a similar build to the one before but didn't understand phrases or humor. He had platinum blonde hair that stood up and, at times, takes things a little too literal.
They all had been trained and Wu told them to get prepared for a 'special mission'. He then gave me a signal to speak to him in private. After ensuring that we wouldn't be heard or seen, Wu and I talked. "There is only one more I need to find. And I know just where to locate them. Along with something to aid us." He says.
"Master, if you don't mind me asking, how are these guys going to help us, exactly? Other than there being more numbers." I ask him. "(Y/N), these individuals are connected to the Golden Weapons. They wield power they have yet to unlock and the weapons will help them to protect Ninjago. And you will help as well." He answers. "But what power do I possess?" I ask him, urgently. Wu sighs, "Believe me, I want to tell you, but now is not the time. I promise, you will know. Eventually." He gently lays a hand on my shoulder.
I inhale through my nose and breathe out. "Alright. But my patience can only hold out for so long." I tell him. He nods understandingly. Shortly after our talk, he set off to find the last individual to help look for the Golden Weapons and become a ninja. I did some training to keep myself busy and other times watch the boys.
After a day or two, Wu had returned and he and another guy were climbing the long way. This guy was very impatient and his hair was if a porcupine was made into a wig. "How long is this training going to be? Aren't we in a little bit of rush since they have the map?" He asks Wu. "Patience." The old man replies. They? Hm, I guess the map has been taken by the wrong hands.
I watch as they enter the Monastery, the yard was empty and the guy looks around unimpressed. "You will be ready when you are ready. Not a minute sooner." Wu tells him as he walks off while the guy is still at the entrance. "A monastery?! You expect me to learn to fight in a place of peace?" He questions, flabbergasted. "Not fight. Train." Wu corrects. "To become a true ninja, first you must be able to see what others do not." Wu says, twirling his staff. "But there's nothing here." The guy argues.
I smirk as I watch Master tap the pillar the golden dragon statue rests on with his staff to reveal a button. He presses it and the training course is revealed. "Whoa." The guy breathed out. "Is this gonna teach me that cool move?" He asks excitedly as he jumps onto one of the pillars. It lowers down and I know where this is going. It launches him into the air and he hits the equipment at the center of the yard and falls face first to the ground.
My face remained neutral as I watch Master Wu prepare himself a cup of tea. "Complete the training course before I finish my tea. Then we will see if you are ready." I roll my eyes. This guy and his tea. And as I expected, the guy fails. He tries to argue but the doors close shut and Wu tells him 'patience.'
For the next couple of days, the guy, I really need to learn the names of these guys, kept failing. He was stubborn and short-tempered, but he did get better. I kept true to my word as I remained hidden and continued watching. And the day came when the spiky-haired male had attempted to complete the training course
I watch as he had a look of determination and attempts the training course once again. But this time, he was really progressing. I look at Wu to find he was prepping his tea faster and right when he was about to take a sip, the guy had thrown his wooden sword and knocked the cup out of Wu's hands.
Impressive. I look to find the guy again, only to see that he was nowhere present in the course. "Will that be one sugar, or two?" I look to find him sitting next to Wu, offering a cup of sugar lumps. He did it. He asked if he was going to be taught Spinjitzu, but all Wu had to say was, "You already have. Your final test comes tomorrow." He says before the doors close, "My advice is to get some sleep."
This is it. This 'final test' will be the moment I introduce myself. And I am terrified.
I meant with Wu after the guy had went to his room. "So, is it almost time?" I ask him. He gets into a meditative stance, "Yes. And you should get some rest as well before that happens." He says. I nod and stealthily make it to my room. And now to wait.
I jump awake as I heard fighting. Huh, must've dozed off. I look to find that it was dark out and got out of my bed, adjust my Gi and put on my hood as I make my way to the commotion. I meet with Wu as he stands in front of the doors. He looks to me with a soft look, "Wait for my signal." He states. I nod I hide myself as he opens the doors.
"STOP!" Wu exclaims, staff in hand. "Yes, Sensei." The others obey. "Wait a minute! They're your students too?" The guy asks, I'm gonna call him Red for now because of his pajamas. Wu only nods. "This was my final test, wasn't it-" "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Chatty interrupts Red, "You never said anything about a fourth." You mean fifth, I smirk to myself.
"It's always three. Three blind mice, three musketeers, three-" "Uh, what he's trying to say, Sensei Wu, is that the three of us have trained together. We're solid." Muscles interrupts Chatty before the guy could go on a tangent. "Didn't look so solid to me." Red comments. I roll my eyes in annoyance at this guy's attitude. "Master, what is the meaning of this?" The last guy asks. I couldn't come up with a fitting name for him. He's the one who takes things literal sometimes.
"Each of you have been chosen. Each in-tune with elemental properties. But first, you have yet to meet someone." "Wait, another one? How many are there?" Chatty asks. "They are the last. And please do be respectful, they are not the best with socializing." Wow. Way to rat me out, Master.
That's my cue. But how about some flair. "So.... Are we gonna meet them or...." Chatty trails. I smirk in amusement as I am now behind the boys. Right between Red and Chatty. "Or learn to not talk as much." I say. "AH!" They yelp. I let out chuckle. "Where did you come from?!" Chatty asks. "And how long have you been listening?" Red demands, getting a little in my face. "Okay, one: a little space, please." I push Red back a little, now standing in the center of the boys.
"Two: I have been here longer than all four of you. And three: the whole time." I answer, not making eye contact. "You have been here this whole time? How come you did not introduce yourself sooner?" Unnamed guy asks. "And how come we didn't notice you sooner?" Muscles asks. "Well, I'm not the most social butterfly." I state blandly.
"That doesn't-" "That's enough. There will be plenty of time to get to know one another, but now, Ninja-Go!" Wu interrupts Red then does Spinjitzu. We sweeps by us and changes our Gis. From left-to-right: white, blue, purple (Sorry, if you didn't get to choose but it makes it easier for me. And if it's your favorite color, go with it), red and black. We were also given weapons as well: shurikens, nunchucks, war fans, a sword, and a scythe.
"Whoa! How did he do that?" Red questions, as he and the rest of us check out our new attire. "Huh-huh! Look what color I am." Chatty says, his color being blue. "Hey, wait a minute. I'm still black." Muscles states. "Kai, Master of Fire. It burns bright in you." Wu taps Kai's shoulder with his staff as he talks. Finally learning their names. "Jay is blue. Master of Lightning." He taps Jay's shoulder. "Heh, that's not all I'm the master of. I do a little inventing, I dabble in model building, a touch of cooking, a little poetry-" Does this guy ever stop? I give him a bored look.
I hear Muscles sigh, "More like Mouth of Lightning." He comments. I let out a snicker. "Black ninja is Cole." Wu says, tapping his staff Cole's shoulder, "Solid as rock. Master of Earth." Cole does a spin then slams the butt of his scythe on the ground. "Hah!" Kai mocks. "Nice to meet you, kid. I got your back. And for the record, there ain't nothing in this world I'm afraid of." He takes off his mask while talking to Kai. "Except for dragons." The unnamed guy points out. "Dragons aren't from this world, Zane. I said in this world." So that's his name.
"White ninja is Zane." Wu says, tapping Zane's shoulder as the guy bows respectfully. "Master of Ice. And seer with sixth sense." Zane does a front flip then spins his shurikens before making them vanish. "I sense this one takes things a little too seriously." Kai says to Cole as I give him look. "You too have the gift?" Zane asks, removing his hood. "Eh-he-he, he's just making a joke, Zane." Jay clears as he takes off his hood. "Remember what we talked about, your sense of humor? Huh?" Jay reminds him. "Yes. It was a joke. Ha, ha." Zane laughs in a monotone voice and Jay facepalms.
"And last, but not least, (Y/N). Fueled by heart. Power through connection and life itself." Wu says, tapping my shoulder. This was the first time he had mentioned the power I wield. But I wasn't going to press for more because it's obvious that there are more important stuff to do right now. I remove my mask and bow respectfully. "Wait, your a girl?" Jay asks. I slowly turn my head to give him a 'Really' look. "Oh, so my voice wasn't enough to give away my gender?" I ask incredulously. "No! I mean-" Jay tries to save himself. "Wow, Jay. Way to make a first impression." Cole comments sarcastically.
"Enough! Pay attention!" Wu raises his voice and we all stand straight, giving him our attention. "You five are the chosen ones, who will protect the four weapons of Spinjitzu from Lord Garmadon." He says. "But what about my sister?" Kai demands, pointing his sword at Master. Jay gasps, "We're saving a girl? Is she hot?" He asks. "Jay." Cole warns. "I-I just want to know what we're getting ourselves into." Jay defends. "Does she like blue?" He asks Kai. "Back. Off." Kai threatens. I stand with a deadpanned look between the two and have had enough. I push them away from each so I can have some space.
I look at Jay, "So, damsels in distress are your type, huh? Guess that rules me out." I state, sarcastically. "What? Oh-No! I-I mean you are pretty, but-but I mean as in I feel like you would-" "Hurt you? Don't worry, you're good. But you do not want me on my bad side." I hint him, subtlety. "I believe she feels offended, Jay." Zane states. "Thank you, Zane." Jay says, his voice flowing with sarcasm.
"When we find the weapons, we will find your sister." Master Wu says, all of us giving him our attention. "It is time. We must go to the first weapon." "Whoa, hold on a minute! You said you were gonna teach us Spinjitzu." Cole intervenes. "Spinjitzu is inside each and every one of you, but it will only be unlocked when the key is ready to be found." Wu tells us. "Come! My feet are tired. We will take the horse carriage."I roll my eyes, Classic Wu.
"Great." Cole says, unenthusiastically. "Now we have to find a key?" Jay complains. "Yeah, I'm feeling like he's taking us for a ride." I massage my forehead in irritation. These guys really don't understand metaphors do they? "Well, if it means finding my sister, sign me up." Kai states determinedly, putting on his hood and following Master. "You know, all that training is for a reason. And we are going put it to use." I tell the boys, then follow after Wu.
We started our journey and made our way to the Caves of Despair where the Scythe of Quakes resides, the first of the Golden Weapon we are to obtain. The sun was now up as I was jogging next to the horse carriage that Master Wu was in and being pulled by the boys. I didn't mind the running, I have incredible stamina.
Kai then asked how Wu recruited them. I figured out that he became a ninja because his sister was taken. Cole was a rock climber and met Wu at the top of a mountain. Jay was testing out an invention of his that would allow him to glide through the air, but it didn't work and he crashed through a billboard. Zane was meditating in a pond that was frozen over and he was surprised to find Master Wu in the water. And all those times, the long-bearded old man was drinking tea.
"Hey, *pant* How did Wu recruit you?" I turn my attention to Jay. "I, too, would like to know as well." Zane says. "Yeah, how did you get recruited by Sensei?" Cole asks. They all look at me expectingly. "And how are you not winded?" Kai asks. I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell them. "Well, it was after I dealt with some thugs trying to steal candy. I stopped them and left after but I felt like someone was watching me. Hid in an alley meant , a guy drinking tea, who was the one following me, and the rest is history." I tell them. "Well, you were right." Kai says to Cole, "If it wasn't for Sensei we would have-" "Stop!" Master says, and we all stop.
"The Caves of Despair." Wu says, as he sits on a rock while me and the boys crawl to avoid detection. "Samukai must be close to unearthing the Scythe of Quakes." From what I read about this place, it's a cave system that goes on for miles. I hope we'll find the scythe soon and not be stuck for eternity. "Remember, do not use the weapon for its power-" "Yeah, yeah, yeah, is too much for us mortals." Jay finishes for Master. "Alright guys let's chop-saki this lemonade stand." He also says. Jay then asks Cole about the plan until I noticed a certain hot-head not present. "Um, we're short one." I say. "What do you-" Cole asks me, but looks around to find Kai not present. "Where's Kai?" He asks.
"Running off to get the scythe on his own." I state. "And how do you know that?" Jay asks me. "Because he's right over there." I point to where Kai is, stealthily making his way pass some skeletons. I hear Jay sigh, "Let's go." He and the rest of us hurry after Kai while Wu stayed behind.
The boys and I carefully sneak pass the skeleton while also trying to catch up to Kai. And if there is one thing I learned about the Skeleton, they are not bright. Cole, Jay, and Zane used a bin to hide under and took out a skeleton who spotted Kai. I followed after them but then another skeleton sees them and I quickly took care of him. He won't be going anywhere or telling anyone anything again.
After ditching the bin, the boys and I used a conveyer belt to sneak pass two skeletons. One found a rock that looked like a donut and took a bit out of it. How do these guys get anything done?
We see Kai climb a watchtower and we follow after him and meet on the top. Looking through a hole on the roof. "What's the matter with you?" Jay whispers annoyed, hitting Kai's head. Kai just shushes him and we look to find a four-armed skeleton, who I'm guessing is Samukai, looking at a map. The guy chuckles a little before setting the map on a table and walking away a little so that it wasn't in his vision. "It's upside-down! They're digging in the wrong spot." Jay quietly notes. "The Golden Weapon is near." Zane remarks, pulling out one of his shurikens and tied a rope on it. Cole nods and Zane throughs it down, hitting the map and pulls it back. We look at it to find the location of the weapon, "There's no time to waste." Kai says, then jumps off the tower. "What is with that guy? Always in a rush." Jay whispers, starting to get irritated.
I shake my head, that guy is going to get us killed. We follow after him to find that he's trying to move a massive boulder. This guy doesn't think things through. "Hey, before you race off again, you need to remember we're a team." Cole says. "Yeah, whatever." Kai replies, uninterested. I scoff but said nothing as I and the rest of the boys help Kai push the boulder out of the way. We succeed the enter the room to find the Scythe of Quakes.
It is beautiful as I look at it with awe, but then I see that it's in a dragon's mouth. "Whoa, that is so cool!" Jay says loudly. I wince as his words bounce off the walls and through out the caves. I smack my forehead and dragged my hand down my hood-covered face. The others shush him as Cole obtains the scythe and jumps down, "Not so loud!" He quietly scolds and wraps the weapon in a cloth. "Aw, come on, don't be paranoid. We're totally on the opposite side of the caves." Jay says, nonchalantly. I look at him with disbelief, "That may be true, but~ you were pretty loud." I not so subtlety hint, putting my hands on my hips.
"Look, let's keep it quiet, okay?" Cole says, as he starts walking. We follow after him. "Now that we got the scythe let's sneak out while those boneheads are busy." He says, tossing the scythe to Kai. But then I felt a lot presences. Okay, now I'm hoping that the Skeletons did not hear Jay. "Now everyone stick together, the way out is right around the corner." Cole says before he yelped and I look to see I was wrong.
That's a lot of boneheads to bash. Samukai takes out his daggers and me and the boys pull out our weapons. We charge forward and knock away any skeletons that get in our way. One jumped in front of me and did some weird moves. I stare at them unimpressed then deliver a swift front kick, knocking his head off. "Kai! Throw it here!" I look to see Kai toss the scythe to Zane who throws it before he gets piled on by skeletons. Cole was able to catch it but more came up from behind him.
I put away my fans, "Cole! I'm open!" I shout to him. He sees me and tosses the scythe. I sensed something behind, so I did a flip and land on the skeleton. I catch the scythe then quickly rush off. "There's too many of them." Kai comments. "Let me handle that!" Jay says, then starts saying a lot of weird words. Is this a comic book? "Hey, guys, it's just like the training course." Jay comments. He then did the moves he learned from the course and performed Spinjitzu.
Of course. The flow of energy. "Spinjitzu." Kai says, in awe as Jay passes us. His being blue with lightning surround it. "Jay, what's the key?" Kai asks. "I'm just going through the motion! This must be what Sensei meant when we already know it." Jay answers. I smirk and adjust the golden scythe to be on my back. "Well, you heard the guy." I did the movements and soon enough, I performed Spinjitzu. Mine being bright purple with some starry dust. The others followed and soon enough we were all doing Spinjitzu. Kai was fire-based, Cole having rocks, and Zane with snow.
With our new ability, Samukai called for a retreat and they all ran away screaming. We all stopped and look at them running away, "Hah. Guess they didn't want a second serving of these babies." Cole boasts, flexing his muscles. Kai and Jay don't say anything. "Good thing they didn't check out the merchandise in the back." He turns around. I grab onto the scythe and Kai takes it as he and Jay celebrate.
But then I hear growling. "Uh, guys?" Cole says, sounding a little frightened. "Didn't Sensei say there was a guardian protecting the weapons?" Zane asks. Oh. "I forgot about that. What with the fighting and everything." I admit. We all then look back and come face to face with, "Is that-uh- That's not what I think it is. Is it?" Cole stutters. "You mean a dragon." Jay answers, sounding scared. "That sure looks like a dragon." Kai says, as the dragon stands on its hind legs to look more intimidating. But I wasn't scared. I don't know how but I can feel how it seemed more concerned with... I look at the Scythe of Quakes.
"I sense we won't be able to spin our way out of this one." Zane says. The dragon leans back then fires at us. We jump out of the way to avoid the rocks that sprouted. We try to run to the exit but the dragon made another row of rocks and had us corned. "I thought dragons weren't from this world?" Cole says. I look back to the dragon and felt its protectiveness. How am I feeling their feelings? This must be an aspect of my powers. "No, no, Kai. Bad idea. Sensei told us not to." "Then you better keep your mouth shut." I break my gaze off the dragon and see Kai ready to use the scythe.
"Kai! Stop!" I yell, but Kai rushes forward and slams the scythe into the ground. It shakes the ground and cracks open the ceiling, giving us a way out. But some rocks fell on the dragon, but it thankfully got back up. We didn't waste any time and hurry past it. "We gotta escape." Kai states. The crack in the ceiling becomes larger, "We'll use Spinjitzu." Cole states. The dragon roars as it charges at us. We all perform Spinjitzu and we're able to escape.
"Oh, that was so awesome!" "Ha Ha Ha!" "Yes! We are unbelievable!" "We are the best!" "Oh. Did you see that? I was like 'Pow!' And you were like 'Bam!'. They cheer. "Oh, you're unbelievable, alright." I state, glaring at them and crossing my arms. The others look at me confused, "What's the big deal? We got the weapon, learned Spinjitzu, and got out of there." Kai says. Impulsive and obnoxious. "The 'big deal' is that the dragon thought we were a threat and was protecting the weapon. And you used it which almost had all of us buried alive!" I argue.
"But we weren't. So all's we'll that ends well." Jay defends. I give him a glare and he backs away. I focus my attention back on Kai, "Look, I know you want to save your sister, but running off on your own and using a powerful weapon is reckless and dangerous!" I scold him. "Hey, if I hadn't done what I did we would be dragon food!" He argues. "Dragons don't eat people! When will you understand that this is not about YOU?!" I argue back. "Enough!" We all look to see Master Wu. "I told you not to use the scythe!" He scolds us.
"He did it." Jay points at Kai along with Cole. "Hey." Kai whines. I roll my eyes in annoyance. "Using it was my only option." Kai defends. "No. It wasn't. The dragon was only doing what he was tasked to do. Protect the Golden Weapon. If we would have shown that we too we're protecting it, he would have let us go." I counter. "(Y/N) is correct. What makes you think you are more important than the team? Huh, huh?!" He mockingly asks Kai, getting in his face.
"He took my sister, remember!" Kai states, angrily. Okay, I've had enough. I walk to him, grab his shoulder and turn him around to face me as I take the scythe from his hands. "Them having your sister is no excuse for putting our lives in danger. We are already risking them to ensure that this," I raise the Scythe of Quakes to emphasize my point, "And the rest of the Golden Weapons do not fall into the wrong hands." I then give the scythe to Master and look back at Kai, giving him a stern glare. "How can you expect to save your sister if you are not there to save her?" I tell him. I turn away from him and walk away, not giving him the chance to respond.
I don't care if I was harsh. Ninjago is my home. And if he can't see the bigger picture, First Spinjitzu Master help us.
