Midnight Thoughts PT. 2 (Sun Wukong x Monkey Reader x Macaque)

(A/N): Part 2 was requested by AnimeGirl4life93 and I apologize for some misinformation about the characters during the raid. It wasn't clear what happened to them.

The drums of war rang loud across the skies as your friends stormed the Jade Palace with brute force. You valiantly fought alongside everyone when suddenly, you were knocked out. When you came to, the fight was over. You could not see through your blurred vision, and all you felt was the agonizing pain accompanied by the ringing in your ears.

As you struggle to stand up, you hear a muffled voice call out to you. Once on your feet, you find everyone collapsed on the ground including Wukong. You take one step when Macaque whisks you in his arms like a damsel. He's saying something, but you can't hear him. He walks into a portal while you extend your hand to Sun as you're carried into darkness.

You wake up to a familiar place. Home on Flower Fruit Mountain. Macaque enters with a bowl of fruit. Relieved, he sets it down to rush to your side for a tight embrace. "Sugarplum. I thought I lost you." You can hear the despair in his voice as he trembles against you. You return the action as you stroke his hair for comfort.

"What happened?" You started.

Macaque relays the details of everyone's fates. The battle was long, and ruthless as they fought with their whole might until the elites arrived, overpowered them which costed their victory. Peng, and Yellow Tusk, were banished, Azure was executed, and Wukong has been confined under a mountain as punishment; while you were knocked out by a guard and have been in a coma throught the ordeal.

It takes you a moment for you to fathom the fact that your family has been stricken from you. Your heart breaks in denial of the situation before you beseech Macaque, "take me to Sun." There is a sadness in his eyes as you mention the chimp. Whatever it is, it only rises your anxiety.

"Sure, but I have to warn you, he is not in a great state of mind." He informed. "Are you certain you're okay to go?"

"Yes, I have to know he's alive and well." You said. Macaque reluctantly opens a portal to the underground where you find half of Sun's body binded to a stone wall. His head hanging dejected with disheveled hair. It's mortifying to witness the cheeky monkey in distress. It felt unnatural. "Sun!" You hug his head with great relief. The simian is surprised, but content nonetheless.

"I brought you a peach." Macaque offered earning a scowl from his brother.

"Oh, wow! A peach! Thanks, bud. It's just what I need." You pull away disliking Sun's attitude.

Macaque ignores the notion and plops a seat on the ground. "You're mad because we're stuck."

"I'm stuck. You're still free and you think a peach is supposed to make it better?" There is a burning rage growing within the sage of which you have never envisioned. It's absolutely shocking to process. "You could help me get out, but instead you're cowering in the shadows."

"Yeah, ok. I got the memo." Macaque calmly responds as he stifles the urge to argue back, however it only took a second for him snap back at the ridiculous accusations. "You know what Wukong? This is all your fault. I told you the uprising was a bad idea and instead you chose to ignore the signs. You brought it upon yourself."

Sun fumes in rage. "I did it for us!"

"You did it for yourself." Macaque retorted.

The air becomes so tense you can cut it with a knife. "What has gotten into you?" You finally piped up. "We are family and we don't turn on each other. I get we're stressed out, but-"

"How could you possibly understand when the only thing you did was stand on the sidelines?" Your heart stings at his insult. "You and Macaque are no different. Useless."

Tears stream down your face, and in that moment there is some remorse on Sun's expression. "You are so selfish. You never did care about anyone. You slip past people's hearts and throw them away when you're upset because things didn't go your way? What child." You quipped. "I never should have trusted you." You turn and walk away with Macaque.

"Fine! Go! I never want to see your faces again!" Sun shouted as his final peace.

At home, you curled up in bed bawling into the pillow. Your entire family is gone now and you felt utterly alone. You sacrificed so much for them and in the end it became your ruin. You were better off being an obedient servant where you were happy creating as you see fit. The one mistake you made was falling in love with the simian twins.

Macaque joins you on the bed to wipe away your tears. "What will become of us?" You asked.

"I don't know." He answered as he removed the pillow to close the gap between you and him. "What I do know is we'll get through it together. We can still live the dream of getting fat on fruit without Wukong." He kisses your forehead as his tail entwines yours. "We will heal because tomorrow is another day. Eventually, it won't hurt anymore."

You smile at his tender consolation. It's tragic to lose your brothers, but at least you have one by your side. "You always know what to say." You rest your head on his shoulder. "I'm glad you're here with me."

"Always." He said.

Decades have passed since then, Macaque had unfortunately disappeared. You sensed a horrible pain in your chest when you learned of his death. You were officially on your own with no one to rely on. You may not have been punished officially by the Jade Emperor, but it felt like you're experiencing the consequences of the aftermath. Perhaps that is why you were "spared" by the heavens. You would hold a heavy burden.

Thankfully, you continued to live amongst humans in a small village providing food and water using your powers. In turn, the humans worshipped you, praising you with gifts and a shrine of your own to call home.

What became of Wukong? Sometimes during the harvest, you hear the people gossip about a monk escorted with a pig, dragon-horse, a blue man and a monkey. You had doubts about the simian being Wukong. He was locked up underground. Who would ever set him free of his derangement, is beyond you. You shrugged the afterthought off proceeding with your duties.

Sometime later, you stood on the cliff under a tree viewing the horizon when you hear the sound of footfalls approach. When they stop, you hear a jingle. "Oh, great harvest goddess, we thank you for blessing the town, offering a safe haven for those in need. You are truly a benevolent spirit. I came to give my thanks as a fellow traveler."

You turn around to meet the stranger and grant him an audience. "Such kind words. I am grateful my efforts have flourished into a beautiful, peaceful town. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed your stay." You chirped. Standing before you is a monk dressed in white. The same man described by rumors. You can sense his aura is as radiant as the sun. A strong individual capable of attracting demons. You wonder how he's gone long without being eaten.

On cue, a voice hollers from afar presenting themselves as Sun Wukong. Your eyes widen as the carefree monkey. It doesn't take long for him to recognize you. How could he when you're his first love. "(Y/n) is that you?" His smile grows from cheek to cheek as he twirls you around. "It's so great to see you."

"Wukong, stop! This is distasteful." The monk cried mortified.

You slip away then drop kick him. "How dare you approach me in a friendly manner. Have you forgotten what you said to me?"

Wukong tilts his head perplexed. "No. I mean-maybe?" You seeth as he has the audacity to disregard the terrible things he vocalized. "Obviously I wasn't in a good place."

"So that gave your the right to chew us out when we were trying to be there for you?" You cross your arms refusing to budge on whatever his excuse will spread from his mouth.

"Uh, I was stuck under a mountain, while you guys were free." You growl menacingly ready to throw hands as his friends do commentary on the mistake. "Guys, you're not helping! Can we get a little privacy?" Once the group was out of sight, he proceeded, "I'm sorry, (Y/n). You have every right to be upset with me. I was a total jerk." You roll your eyes at his half-assed apology though you cannot deny there is some sincerity in them. "I was angry at everyone and everything because our plans fell apart. I was consumed by fear. I failed to see what was right in front of me. I lost you and my best friend."

You drop your shoulders finally listening hearing the words you wanted to hear. "Yeah, you were awful, but if I were in your shoes, I would be ticked off too." You turn your back on him. "Truth be told, that's not what hurts the most. It was the fact that you never wanted to see me again after you assured me, you would never abandon me." Tears stream down your face. You wrap your tail around you as comfort. "I thought you understood that no matter what, I wanted to be with you."

Sun frowns guilty of inflicting such pain upon you. He embraces you rightly. You can sense the love he once had for you remains kindled. You return the action. It's been ages since you've held one another. You missed his scent, his warm fur tickling your face, all of it.

For the rest of the night, you sat together reminiscing under the moon.

In the morning, you both gave a heartwarming good bye. Everything was off your chest. However, Wukong still needed to finish his journey to complete his promise to the monk, Tang Sanzang. "It's not forever. I'll be back."

"I'm gonna somewhat hold you to that. I know how sketchy you can be." You nuzzle him earning "awes" from the crowd.

"Until we meet again, peaches." He said.

"Until we meet again."

Two centuries have passed, the village has now blossomed to a modern day city. No one needed you anymore, but you waited for Wukong's return. As you say on the cliff, you hear footsteps approach. What's surprising is being reunited with not only Wukong, but Macaque. Seeing their faces overwhelms you with overflowing tears.

"Hey." They greeted.

You run up to hug them at the same time and whisper, "hey" back. No amount of words can describe how content everyone is to be together after so long. You knew for certain this time it will be permanent.
