The King, The Prince, and The Shadow

"So, uh, Mr. King, sir, I don't want to rush you or anything, but-" Tang started to say before MK interrupted him. "I'm okay with rushing him! What's the plan Monkey King?! We have all three rings of Samadhi. So how do we use them to make the Lady Bone Demon go boom?! Is there a switch, or-?" The boy asked before the train shook, tripping some people that weren't sitting down. Jiang let out a soft sigh as she regained her balance before leaning against a bar that people could hold onto while standing.

"MK, I get the feeling it's a little more, complicated, then that" she said after seeing Wukong glance at Mei. "She's right. In order to reforge the Samadhi Fire, we'll need to reach the summit of that mountain" Wukong told the group. Jiang looked up, and spotted a mountain with strange circle structures in it.

"Huh. And thats where we'll find the fourth ring, huh?" Pigsy asked as he looked at Wukong, who glanced up at his words. Jiang let out a soft breath as she remembered when Wukong, while having amnesia, had told them that there were four rings instead of three. "Ain't that right, Monkey King?" Pigsy asked.

There was something in his tone, Jiang couldn't quite place what, but Wukong narrowed his eyes at the pig demon, his tail curling slightly around himself. "Fourth ring? What fourth ring?" MK asked. "Oh Pigsy, I think your confused. Monkey King said that they split the Fire of Samadhi into three Rings. Three Rings hidden by the three great warriors, Monkey King, the Demon Bull King, and-" Tang's lecture was interrupted when the train gave another violent shake.

Then, a strange aircraft pulled up beside them. "Uh, who dat?" MK asked. Nobody answered him as the aircraft went up, and the gold rings that were there disengaged with a ball of purple-pink flames.

Then the ball of flames shifted a bit, and Wukong used his gold vision, when it stopped, he turned around, a slightly fearful expression on his face. "Get back!" He cried. Then, the gold rings sliced through the cabin of the train.

One got close enough that Jiang thought she could just barely feel it brush against her skin. Everyone had been tossed up into the air by the sheer force, and Jiang felt something slam into her, bringing her to a safer part of the train. Taking a quick look around, Jiang realized she was beside MK, and Wukong was standing in front of them.

Then, someone landed in front of them, welding a spear. "Sun Wukong. Finally" the newcomer said. "Nezah! My old friend! Don't tell me you trekked all the way out here to hang out with little old me!" Wukong said in a slightly playful tone that sounded a bit strained.

"You know exactly why I'm here! I will not let you reforge the Samadhi Fire and doom this world" Nezah snapped. Of course, Tang ruined the dramatic moment with his fanboying talk, which The Third Lotus Prince quickly had enough of. "Silence mortal!" He snapped.

"How did you find us?" Jiang asked in a hard tone as she stood straight. "Wait, don't tell us. You took a little sneaky peaky at the map while you were supposed to be guarding it. Now who's untrustworthy?" Wukong said as he shoved his hands into his hoodie's pocket. "I didn't have to. I knew the ring I had been tasked with was safe in Chang'es care, until you stole it!" Nezah said.

"Borrowed" Wukong corrected nonchalantly. "I had a feeling Demon Bull King would have kept his instead of hiding it as instructed. No surprises there" Nezah continued. "Yeah, I think we all saw that one coming" the Monkey demon commented.

"Which brings me to your ring. Worst kept secret ever!" The Lotus Prince cried. "Well, I mean, not wrong" Mei said. Sandy nodded in agreement.

"This is why, the Rings of Samadhi, should have been entrusted, to me alone!" Nezah shouted before he darted over to MK, who looked terrified as the Third Lotus Prince stopped directly in front of him. "Give me the Rings child. I won't ask-huh?!" Nezah said in a low threading tone before he was forced to back up in order to prevent a knife striking him in the face. Jiang took up a defensive position in front of MK, knife in hand, and gave the Prince a death glare.

"Come at my brother like that again, and you won't like what happens next" she hissed. Nezah had a strange look on his face as his purple colored eyes collided with Jiang's ocean teal ones. "Wait... Your... But, it can't be" he breathed.

Confusion flooded Jiang's mind, but she didn't change her stance. "Your the phe-" Nezah never got to finish his sentence before Wukong slammed his fist into the guy's stomach, packing enough power in it to fling Nezah through the ceiling of the train. "That's not gonna stop Nezah for long. Go! You have to get to the mountain. Now!" He ordered.

"And then what?!" MK asked. "Just wait for me there, I'll explain everything" Wukong told him. "But we can help, Wukong! Please, let us help!" Jiang cried.

"Jiang, there's no time. Macaque could show up at any second. Go!" Wukong told her. Jiang narrowed her eyes slightly before sighing in defeat and nodding. "Lets go" she said before giving her friends a boost to the ceiling.

Then, they all hopped off the roof of the train, and began their long treck up the mountain in the van. Looking back, Jiang watched as Wukong flew off on his cloud with the fake rings, leading Nezah on a goose chase before turning back around in her seat. What was Nezah even about to say to her before Wukong punched him into the sky?

That thought plaqued her mind, even when she had climbed out of the van and begun to grow exhausted from climbing up the many steps that covered the rest of the way up the mountain. But, she did flop onto the ground like everyone else when they all finally reached the top. Then, amazement took over as she took in what was in front of her.

"Whoa. What is this place?" Sandy asked. "I think, I think this is where they originally split the Samadhi Fire" Tang answered. After getting to her feet, Jiang slowly wandered down the steps, taking in everything.

There were more steps across from her that led up to a raised platform. Surrounding the place were black square cut stones with symbols written in gold. And on the ground, there was a gold marking in the form of the rings, while another golden ring surrounded it, four little podiums being placed just beyond on it.

For some odd reason, the entire place felt, familiar. Like she had been here before. And what's more, it felt like something was drawing her closer.

"Does anyone else feel like...?" Mei asked before trailing off. "Like we've been here before? Yeah. Its weird, right? But, I know I haven't" Sandy answered her. "Me neither. And yet, this place feels so familiar" Tang said as he placed a hand against the stone.

"Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way" Jiang said as she followed whatever was drawing her closer. "Nope. Not me man. This is all new to me" MK said as he picked up a rock, examined it, then tossed it away. Then, he scared the pig demon.

"Hey Pigsy!" He called, making the pig demon chef jump. "Kid! Could you not?" Pigsy said, exasperated. "Earlier, you said something about a fourth ring, but that was just an accident, right? A slip of the tongue?" MK asked him.

"Uh, maybe?" Pigsy replied. "Maybe? What's 'maybe' supposed to mean?" The boy asked. "Maybe, Monkey King is not as trustworthy as you think MK" Pigsy told him.

"What, what do you mean?" Mk questioned. "Think about it. He told us he had a plan, but we don't know what it is. He told us there were three rings, but maybe, there's a fourth. He told us that map was important, but it hasn't been useful once this whole trip!" Pigsy ranted. "Yeah, we did basically find all the rings without it" MK realized.

"Yeah, not gonna lie, I thought it was going to be more important than this. It has to be, right?" Tang said from where he was up on the platform. He layed out the map in front of himself, and suddenly, everything began to glow with a gold light. "Uh, okay, yep, looks like its definitely important!" MK yelped as everyone backed up.

Well, except Jiang. The feeling of something drawing her closer stopped when she reached the podium that was closest to the platform. She got down on one knee, and reached out a hand, fingertips just barely touching the gold.

"Uh, kid? I wouldn't do that!" She heard Pigsy call, but for once, she ignored him, and let her hand rest on the platform. Instantly, her vision changed. In front of her, was a ball of dark red flames.

She could just barely make out the form of a young, very young child. Farther back was a hairy version of DBK. On her left was Wukong, dressed in armor, and on her right was a slightly younger looking Nezah.

She was so startled by the scene, that she flinched backwards, an action which made her remove her hand from the podium, and her vision returned back to normal. Jiang scrambled back a bit, panting.

"Jiang!" She heard her brother yell. "I, I'm alright" her voice came out in a soft whisper. She waited for her breathing to return to normal before standing up and walking back towards the podium.

"Uh, Jiang?" Tang asked. "When I touched it, I saw, something. I have to look back again" Jiang told him, well, the group mostly. She stood on the podium this time, and knelt down again, touching both hands the gold surface below her.

And just like that, her vision changed back to the scene from before. She felt determination, and exhaustion sweep over her. Then, she became aware of someone yelling something.

"Fèng Huáng!" The person called. Fèng Huàng? The Pheonix Goddess?

Even though she didn't move, her vision did, and then, she was looking up at the platform. There was an old looking green dragon, and a monk up there. "Stabalize them! They need your help!" The monk cried out.

Her vision turned back over, and Jiang watched as red and gold light flowed from her hands in strips of color that weaved through the air before circling around Nezah, Wukong, and DBK. Suddenly, she felt someone grab her shoulders, and yank on her. The scene, and its people faded away, the place where her body was now coming back.

Looking over, Jiang realized it was MK that had pulled on her. "MK! What the-?!" She started to say. "Macaque! He's here!" MK told her, cutting her off.

Then, Jiang took note of the ice that now began to surround the place, which was glowing bright than ever. Even the rings had taken up their own positions in front of the three other podiums. "Guys!" Jiang cried as Pigsy and Sandy were trapped in the ice.

A large shadow covered them, and Jiang looked up in time to see a giant hand coming down. She quickly tackled her brother out of the way, and a giant mechanized Monkey of sorts appeared, looming over them all. "Don't get in my way you two. I don't have time for you. I'm just here for the Samadhi Fire, then I'm done with you all" she heard Macaque say.

He began reaching forward with the mech, but MK transformed into a gorilla and delivered a punch hard enough to send shockwaves that destroyed that entire arm. And revealed the pilot. Jiang went wide eyed and slacked jawed at the sight of Macaque with ice covering his entire arm and half of his head.

The edgy monkey let out a maniacal laugh before that arm was reformed. The giant hand closed around MK, who turned back to normal, but the grip closed on him too fast. "MK!" Jiang yelled as her brother was lifted up.

She took a step forward, but looked down at something that had moved. The tip of an ice shard began to poke through the ground, and Jiang barely had enough time to lean back before it shot up, just barely missing her head. The female stumbled back, not even realizing she was now standing on the podium.

"This was the Monkey King's great plan? How do you still not see that he has no idea what he is doing? How about this for a plan?" Macaque snapped as he slammed MK down into the ground again and again before lifting him back up. "Stay down MK. Or I'll put you down" Macaque told him, his tone of voice making it very clear that he would execute that promise if he had to. Jiang looked over as Mei tried to use her powers, but then, she cried out in pain, and Tang quickly held on to her to steady her as the dragon girl stumbled.

"Not. Another. Move!" Macaque snapped before he jumped out of his mech. Once he hit the ground, the entire thing crashed down, then slowly disappeared. "MK!" Jiang cried as she saw her brother's unconscious body hit the ground.

She turned her gaze over to Macaque, and he barely had any time to get out of the way before she tried to slash at him with her knife. "Jiang, you do not want to do this" Macaque told her, his voice low and full of warning. "Actually, yes. Yes I do" Jiang hissed before she rushed at him.

No one had ever seen her so ticked off as she tried again and again to land a harsh blow. But Macaque simply blocked them with his iced over arm while trying to land a blow of his own. Then, he flung a bunch of ice shards at her, and some of them hit their target.

Jiang dropped her knife and let out a sharp cry of pain as her arm was impaled, and she backed up a bit, once again standing on the podium. Seeing his opportunity, Macaque flung a couple more shards, and Jiang brought her arms up, but she didn't feel any pain, but rather pressure and cold around her leg. Looking down, she saw it was trapped in the ice.

And trying to pull free was no use since that made the ice grow and painfully tighten around the limb. "Now, I'll give you two options. Option A, I take the Samadhi Fire, you do exactly what I say, and I don't have to do anything you'll regret!" Macaque said as he began to approach Tang and Mei. "Or, option B..." He said before shooting forward and grabbing Mei.

"Mei!" Jiang cried. She couldn't do anything but watch as Macaque got to the center of the circle and held Mei up, keeping her in his hold with the help of the ice. "I cut you all down, starting with the girl!" He snapped.

"Wait, don't do this!" Tang cried. "Tang, do what I'm telling you to do! Your friend's life depends on it. Finish, the ritual!" Macaque ordered. Tang looked around, and when his eyes landed on her, Jiang tried to shake her head, but she winced and couldn't stop the small whimper of pain as the ice around her leg tightened and grew, slowly climbing up to her thigh.

"Alright!" She heard Tang cry out. And dread settled in as she heard his next two words be spoken in a defeated tone.

"You win"
