Sweet'N'Sour

Jiang remained silent with a look in her eyes that promised murder as she gently pressed an ice bag against the red and slowly bruising mark on her brother's check. He let out a small sound of pain, and Jiang's expression softened a bit. "Sorry, but we got to keep the swelling down buddy" she said, her tone apologetic.

Oo, the things that were going through her mind right now. She was so going to find the boys that hurt her brother, and see if she couldn't put them in the hospital. No one gets to lay a hand with harmful intent in him.

"It's fine. But I've had it up to here with those speedy panda delivery brick heads. They've been sabotaging me all week!" MK cried. "Those punks with their flash frozen microwave junk. Convenience can never replace traditional home cooked family recipes" Pigsy said, glancing at a family photo. "Yeah, but they do do it quicker" MK said.

He went quiet as Pigsy glared at him while Jiang raised an eyebrow. You really want to side with the people that just ganged up on you?, She thought, pressing the ice bag on a little harder. "All I'm saying is, maybe you could afford to pick up the pace?" MK said.

"Pick up the pace?! You and Jiang are the delivery drivers. You two pick up the pace! Every noodle from Pigsy's Noodles is handcrafted from scratch. With love, care. It's what out customers have come to expect!" Pigsy cried. "Don't you worry Pigsy. I'm a loyal customer" Tang said. "More like a loyal freeloader" Pigsy told him, making Tang gasp in an offended manner.

"He's got a point Tang. When was the last time you actually paid for your food?" Jiang asked as she took the ice bag back to the freezer to let it cool off. She was amused at the way Tang spluttered, clearly offended with the way she had sided with Pigsy. "I'm telling you Pigsy! If something doesn't change, we're gonna be run out of business!" MK cried.

Oo, that would be bad news. It wasn't easy to find a job that paid as good as Pigsy did. "Ah, you guys don't get it. I poured my heart into this place. From the pots, to the utensils, even my grandmother's antique windows!" The pig demon cried, pulling down the wooden carved out windows that had been tucked away in the wall. Then, a brick with a note tied to it crashed through.

"...That's vandalism" Jiang said after putting her arms down. Hey, who wanted to get glass in their face? Not her.

Pigsy pulled the note, opening it up. "Well, what does it say?" Jiang asked, hand on her hip. "Hmm. Attention Pigsy's Noodles. Prepare for your worst nightmare. We challenge you to food wars to determine which restaurant truly reigns supreme. Signed Speedy Panda" Tang recited out loud.

"So, someone gonna tell me what the food wars is?" MK asked. "Speedy Panda's basically challenging us to a cook off" Jiang told him, crossing her arms. "It is so much more than just a cook off Jiang! It's an official arena for chefs to duke it out! And winners are hailed supreme over all others! Speedy Panda, I accept your challenge!" Pigsy cried out.

"Why did I agree to this again?" Jiang muttered to herself as she stood in the arena. Oh yeah, pay raise if they won. She had put her hair up in an extra tight bun(she had even tucked her bangs away) and tied her jacket around her waist.

Gently petting the multi-colored feather for good luck, Jiang walked out with Pigsy and MK. The arena had a line right down the middle, separating two kitchens that were out on the field, and Jiang stood with her team in front of their designated spot, listening as the announcers began talking. Welcome one and all to Food Wars! Today, two teams will compete in three rounds in food combat in order to be crowned supreme restaurant champion! Introducing first, from Pigsy's Noodle shop, Pigsy and his assistants, Jiang and MK!

Jiang looked around with a soft smile and waved to the people that were up in the stands, a good few of them waving back. And their opponents, Speedy Panda, and it's owners, these guys! Jiang facepalmed when she saw two, very familiar demons.

"Not these bozos again" she muttered. Their opponents were none other that the twin trickster demons, Jin and Yin. "Remember us Monkey Kids?!" Jin called out.

"We're your worst nightmare, Jin, and Yin, the golden silver demons!" The two said. Jiang stepped forward. "Quite honestly, we've been very busy with a lot of things that were much more important and much more scarier than the two of you, so, forgive us if mine and my brother's memories are a bit rusty!" She called out, making the two demons lightly glare at her.

She smirked a bit, already hearing the low growls the two demons were making. "I'm sorry, who?" MK asked. "I don't even know you guys. What have you got against my restaurant?!" Pigsy demanded.

"So here's the plan right? We've figured that if we put you and your noodle shop out of business, then noodle Boy and the delivery girl are out of jobs" Yin said. "And if their out of jobs, they'll starve, which will make them weak, and then..." Jin said. "We'll finally be able to destroy them!" The two chorused before they laughed.

"Yeah, they never were the brightest" Jiang muttered to Pigsy, who growled a bit. It is now time for round one! The competitors will have to gather all the ingredients they need and race from the Food Wars ultimate pantry to their respective kitchens at the center of the courtyard. In three, two, one! An alarm sounded, and Jiang helped Pigsy with gathering all the ingredients that they needed.

Quickly packing them away, Jiang hopped into the delivery car with MK right as Speedy Panda took off. "Go, go, go!" Jiang yelled, and MK floored the gas pedal. However, Speedy Panda made them crash, and they got to their kitchen first.

Round one goes to Speedy Panda! The announcer called out. "That shouldn't count. They made us crash" Jiang lightly snapped as she got up, helping her brother to his feet. They got to their kitchen, unpacked everything, and started cooking.

In round two, competitors will put their culinary powers to the test in a cook off, with the winner being chosen by a panel of curiously selected judges. Jiang quickly chopped away on some things to use as a garnish for their dish, but, from where she was, she could see Jin and Yin putting something on a plate, which they then tossed into the microwave. Disgusting.

Continuing with cooking, MK was on edge when it came to the time. "We gotta move!" He cried, holding up a bowl of noodles that had no broth in them. "I agree, we're running out of time here" Jiang said as she added some seasoning to the broth.

"MK, Jiang, I told you two. Good food takes time" Pigsy said before he tested the broth. "Just need to add one more ingredient" he said. At that moment, Jin and Yin purposefully dropped a container of hot sauce into the broth.

"Oops, clumsy us!" They laughed before walking away. Jiang, was now a little terrified. They had no time left to remake the broth.

However, she was surprised when Pigsy said, "That was, that was actually what was missing!". Jiang breathed a sigh of relief, then quickly added the garnish to the bowls as Pigsy handed them to her. "MK, Jiang! Go!" Pigsy yelled.

Jiang quickly put the bowls on a large plate, out a cover over them, and then went up to the steps that lead to the judges table. A gong sounded out, signalling the end of the round. And that's the timer! Both teams must now present their culinary creations to our panel of judges! Introducing our first judge, Princess Iron Fan!

The announcer called out. Jiang was rather surprised. "Ah, you've come to tussle with the champ?!" MK called out.

"Oh please, like I have energy to waste on you Noodle Boy. I'm here to settle a debt and that's all. Knew I shouldn't have made that blood oath" Iron Fan replied. Judge number two, is none other than the Monkey King! "Monkey King?!" MK cried.

Jiang held him back. "It's not actually him, it's just a cardboard cutout of him with a random person standing behind it. Sorry buddy" Jiang told him. Though that would have been something if Wukong actually came to judge the contest.

He really needed to eat something other than peach chips and hair turned food. The last judge turned out to be Tang. By this point, Jiang wasn't even surprised anymore, and she let out a soft sigh.

Pigsy, however looked rather nervous. He didn't always treat Tang with the best attitude. That could definitely put a damper on things.

Speedy Panda was up first. And Jiang was glad that she hadn't eaten anything yet. Because she would never even come near what was on the plate. She felt bad that the judges had to actually eat that stuff.

Iron Fan passed with eating the stuff, Tang actually vomited, and the Wukong cut out obviously couldn't eat it. Jiang handed the plate in her hands off to Pigsy, who took it up and handed out the bowls of the family noodle recipe. Iron Fan looked like she enjoyed it, but she voted for Speedy Panda.

You didn't even try their stuff! Jiang wanted to tell out, but, she kept quiet. Tang, thankfully, voted for Pigsy's Noodles. "Of course it's us! His food is a work of genius!" He cried.

Jiang's anxiety began to grow as she realized they were tied. The third judge would be the tie-breaker, and she crossed her fingers, silently praying to whatever gods were out there. The cutout fell into the noodles, and MK made use of the situation by shouting how the cutout enjoyed the noodles, which secured them the second vote needed to win the round.

Now they were officially tied. Whoever won the next round, won the entire competition. After a bit of badmouthing from both sides, the final round began which was mascot combat.

The demon twins pressed a button, and a panda robot appeared behind them. Compared to their delivery truck with a pig's head in it, it was a little painfully obvious who the winner was gonna be. "I can't believe it. I dedicated my life to that shop. But now I'm going to loose it to a couple of demons because I was too arrogant to stand down. You were right MK. Nobody cares about tradition, or centuries old recipes. We're gonna be replaced by instant microwavable junk" Pigsy said, tearing up.

"No, absolutely not. Me and MK may not understand your rational love for noodles, or working hard, or being angry all the time, but your always there when me and MK need you, so, I think it's time for us to finally return the favor. Because your noodles are worth fighting for" Jiang ranted. Summoning the staff, she hit against the delivery vehicle, and it transformed into an awesome looking pig bot. The trio looked down at the twins, who seemed shocked.

"Us little guys are fighting back! Your tyrannical reign over the food sector if this city, is over!" MK called out. "No amount of convenience will ever win the hearts of us food lovers!" Tang cried. "Tang!" Pigsy cried.

"I was never going to vote against you old friend!" Tang revealed with a bright smile. "Oh yeah? Bring it on little piggies!" The twins called out. "Well, MK, Jiang, what do you say me and you two show these guys what being a real champ is all about?!" Pigsy snapped, making the two siblings nod with determined expressions on their faces.

"Go on then lads, get em!" Jin yelled, and all of the strangely identical looking delivery guys all jumped at the pig mech, turning a food war into an actual combat thing. Suddenly, someone stepped between the two teams, and showed a clipboard to the twins. As it turns out, the twins spent all their money on the mech, and didn't have enough to pay the drivers, which basically meant they had gone bankrupt.

The drivers then ganged up the twin demons, and both Jiang and Pigsy covered MK's eyes, not allowing him to see everything that was taking place before them, as satisfying as it was. Both Jiang and Pigsy shared a satisfied smile. Later on, back at the shop, "Order up!" MK called, placing a bowl of noodles in front of Pigsy.

"I'd say he did pretty good" Jiang said, putting a hand in his shoulder. "Eh, I don't know if I got the broth right" MK said, looking a little nervous. "That's alright. You've got plenty of time to learn. And guys, thanks for having my back, back there" Pigsy said.

"You know it" MK told him. "Always" Tang added. "But of course" Jiang said, leaning on the counter and crossing her legs a bit.

"Believe in yourself. Even a smidge makes all the difference" the cutout of Monkey King said with a lot of glitches in the speech. "Hey, he, he kinda said the thing!" MK realized, making everyone laugh. Jiang stopped laughing and took a step back, looking at the scene in front of her with a soft smile.

In a way, the entire group had a bit of a family dynamic that Jiang never really noticed before until now. And that thought made her freeze a bit. Family.

Something that she never really got to experience in her younger years. And now, she finally had that. All this time, she practically had a family right in front of her, yet she never really noticed it.

Until now. And that made her smile. "Jiang, you alright?" MK asked her, making her perk up a bit.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm alright" she said to him, walking a little closer and putting her arm over his shoulders. "Just thinking about how lucky I am to have all of you guys" she said, making everyone smile even more. And Jiang relished in the fact that she finally had a family that she could really call her own.
