Noodles or Death
Jiang let out a groan as she looked through everything. Today was grocery shopping, and Pigsy always forced... I mean brought two people along to help him.
The second MK heard the news he had muttered something about having to help Mei out with something, and left as quickly as he could, leaving Jiang and Tang the only ones in the place. She was still a bit sour about it. Now she let out her tenth sigh of the day as she heard Pigsy commenting on a 'perfect' carrot.
"My gods Pigsy. That carrot looks exactly like the last twenty thousand that we've already gone through!" She snapped, shifting the basket she had to her other arm. Tang agreed with her, so Pigsy gave them both a look and said "Well, I shouldn't expect the two of you to appreciate a fine carrot like this one. Neither of you are culinary geniuses. Unlike me". "And that is the sixth time you've said that" Jiang told him through half-lidded eyes.
In all honesty, she just wanted to go back to the shop to grab a few things then hit the beach with a couple of friends. Like she had originally planned before finding out that today was grocery day. A female's voice from a shaded area of the market drifted over to them.
"My, my, my. You three are making quite a scene" said the woman as she appeared out of the shadows of her shop. Her eyes were completely green, and her pupils were a lighter tint of the color and her skin was a weird looking purple. There was a weird looking hair clip in her long black hair, with looked greasy, like it had been brushed, but never really washed.
"Looking to buy some ingredients? Something tasty? You've come to the right place" the strange lady said before blowing the group a kiss. That immediately made Jiang tense up a bit and set her on high alert. She had learned to trust her gut, which right now, was screaming at her to not trust or hang around this woman.
"Um, thanks for the offer, but-" she started to say before Pigsy immediately darted forward with a lovesick expression. He babbled out something along the lines of "You selling beautiful vegetables today?" Jiang wasn't the only one who was slightly weirded out.
Even Tang had an eyebrow raised at the pig demon's actions. The woman didy even have any good vegetables. "Are you blind?" Tang asked.
"That's right sugar. This is the finest store in the whole market. Why don't you come around back and see my, exclusive, wares?" The lady said, backing up into the shadows of her shop. Red flag, red flag, red flags everywhere for Jiang when it came to this lady. She was already sketchy enough with his how she looked and acted, but that sentence right there, not to mention how she backed away into her shop without breaking eye contact, did it for Jiang.
Pigsy moved to follow the woman, but Tang beat Jiang to stopping him. "Pigsy, I'm not sure-" he started to say before the pig demon turned on him. "Don't wreck this for me. I need this!" Pigsy told him before freeing his wrist and heading into the shop.
"You can go in after him if you want, but I'm not stepping one foot in there. Yell for me if you need any help" Jiang told Tang, crossing her arms. The scholar sighed before going in after Pigsy. Jiang waited, peering into the shop once every five seconds, then, after thirty seconds, she heard Pigsy and Tang yell out of fear and surprise.
"Pigsy! Tang!" Jiang yelled into the shop, ready to run in. But before she could, she faintly heard Tang yell, "Jiang, run!" before his voice faded out completely. Jiang stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do, but when she heard the woman coming back to the front of the shop, and after realizing she didn't have any weapons on her, Jiang did what Tang told her to.
She took the basket of groceries that she had, and ran, not looking back once, and not noticing the woman's evil looking smirk appearing from the shadows of the shop. Getting back to the vehicle Pigsy had used to drive to the market, Jiang packed away the groceries and booked it out of the market place. She dug her hand into the back pocket of her pants and pulled out her phone, quickly typing in a number and calling it.
Thankfully, the person on the other side picked up. "Hey Jiang, what's up?" MK asked. "MK! Where are you right now?! I need to tell you something!" Jiang asked.
"Over at the secret base that we don't really use all that often. Why? What happened?" MK replied. "I'll tell you when I get there, meet me outside of the place!" Jiang told him before she hung up on him. Getting to the pier, she spotted her brother outside the entrance to their secret base, and once he spotted her, he immediately made his way down to the ground.
"Jiang! What's going on?" MK asked. "Pigsy and Tang! Their missing!" Jiang told him. "What, how can they be missing?!" MK asked her, assuming a confused expression on his face.
"I don't know! There was this weird shop with this weird lady in it, and Pigsy went in, followed by Tang. Then I heard them yell, and I never saw them come out!" Jiang hastily explained. "Come on, we gotta tell the others!" MK cried, grabbing Jiang's wrist and pulling her along with him. The two went down to the secret base and quickly found Mei and Sandy, who were playing Monkey Mech.
"Guys! Pigsy's missing!" MK cried. "Pff, missing? What do you mean he's missing?" Mei asked. "I mean, he didn't open the shop this morning! Not too mention, according to Jiang, he and Tang never came out of a shop they had gone into!" MK told her, which made both her and Sandy gasp.
"He's never not opened the shop before!" Sandy cried. "He's been pig-napped!" MK added. "I immediately fear the worst!" Sandy yelled.
While the boys were yelling their heads off, Jiang watched Mei run over to a control panel and press a button, which made a recording pop up. It was of Pigsy outside the sketchy shop, with Jiang beside him. And in front of the two, an outline of the strange lady could be seen.
"Who's filming this?" Sandy asked. A bowl of noodles appeared on the screen, making it very obvious as to who it was. "Wait, how was Tang filming this? He was never holding a camera" Jiang asked.
"So, I kinda attached cameras to all of you guys a long while back. Not so creepy now, is it?" Mei said before looking at MK. "It's a little creepy" MK told her. "I agree" Jiang said.
"Aw, she seems nice. Maybe their having fun?" Sandy guessed. On the camera, Tang's hands appeared, holding on to Pigsy before the view shifted to the ground, which opened up, making the two boys drop down. Jiang noticed something at the end of the footage, but didn't have any time to say it before Sandy and MK started yelling.
"Oh no, I was wrong! This is very, very, very bad!" Sandy cried. "Scary nightmare hole! What happened?!" MK practically screamed. "Mei, reverse the footage just a bit, I saw something at the end" Jiang ordered.
Mei did just that, pausing perfectly on a clear image. It looked like a spider that had the top of of a woman. "Spider demon?! Oh no. Ew, yuck, I hate spiders, hate, hate, hate, hate! With their eyes, and feet, and furry butts" MK babbled.
Jiang quietly agreed with him. Too many eyes, and too many legs. Absolutely freaky.
"Okay, a spider demon's got our friends, you know what that means!" Sandy said. "It's time for Operation Rescue Tang and Pigsy from the Nightmare Hole" Mei said. After she got her sword and MK got the Monkey King's staff, the group climbed aboard a four jet convertible water ski.
"Where to?" Sandy asked, who was at the driver's seat. "Across town!" Mei told him. Then, Sandy took off at a fast pace, forcing everyone to hold on to something.
Heading out to the now abandoned market place, Jiang began looking around. "Dead ahead!" She cried, spotting the sketchy shop. Sandy drove straight into the place, which turned out to be a simple coverup for a creepy tunnel.
The group continued along. "Wait, watch out!" Jiang yelled, spotting the large spider web too late. The vehicle crashed into the web, and began to fall.
However, the web held on, and the vehicle was dangled from the ground. Jiang helped MK get down and joined up with Mei and Sandy. MK began panicking when he discovered a spider hanging out on his bandana, but with a simple blow of air, Mei blew it off.
"MK, it's just a tiny spider, now let's go" Jiang told him. "Hey! You don't like them either!" Said MK. "Yeah, but I don't freak out like you do. Now let's go save Pigsy and Tang" Jiang shot back before she started walking.
"Oh, Jiang! You should do that eye glowy thing!" Mei suggested. Jiang focused, when when she opened her eyes, the gold vision was back. Looking around, she spotted the golden silhouettes of Tang and Pigsy, then she made the gold vision go away.
"Their right through this wall!" She said, pointing at the cave wall in front of her. "Allow me" Mei said, aiming the Dragon Blade. Another energy beam from the weapon broke through the wall, and there, wrapped up in spider silk, was Tang and Pigsy.
"Pigsy! Tangy!" Sandy cried. The two people looked over, fear in their eyes. Suddenly, Sandy was snatched away, and Mei quickly followed.
"MK! Jiang!" She cried as she was dragged up. "Mei!" The two siblings chorused. Mei and Sandy then dropped down on both sides of Tang and Pigsy, both wrapped up in spider silk.
MK handed the staff off to Jiang with shaky hands, and the girl took it, looking around everywhere as she slowly backed up. Then she felt MK tap her shoulder. Turning around, Jiang saw a large spider demon that towered over her and MK.
The poor boy was shaking like a leaf, and even Jiang was a little freaked out. "Don't tell me your scared of spiders" the Spider Demon teased. "Kids! Run!" Jiang heard Pigsy yell behind her.
Looks like he finally got the spider silk off of his mouth.
The Spider Demon raised a giant leg, and that decided Jiang's next decision. "Go, go, go!" She yelled, pushing MK so that he started running. MK booked it, and Jiang sprinted to keep up.
Huh, I guess fear really does get you to run faster, she thought as she jumped to dodge another leg that the Spider Demon brought down. After running for what felt like hours, both siblings stopped to try and catch their breath, but the moment was shortlived when the Spider Demon zipped by above them, her laugh echoing around the room they were in. "And you two are the kids that old Monkey King chose?" Her voice echoed.
"Hey! I'm a monkey man!" MK called out. "Not right now you aren't" Jiang muttered to him, feeling him shaking. "We're two full grown adults who know how to weird this staff!" She called out.
Suddenly, something slammed into her and MK, knocking them into a wall of webbing. The force of the impact had also made Jiang lose her hold on the staff, and now, she could see where it landed from where she was upside down. "Do you want to know what you two are? You two are my ticket back to the throne" The Spider Demon said in a sickly sweet tone before plucking a hair from both MK and Jiang.
"All that power the Monkey King gave the two of you? After I've made my dinner, it's all going to be my power" she said. "Hey, you! Bug Lady!" Said a familiar voice. "Pigsy?" Jiang breathed as she spotted her friends on the other side of the room.
"Here comes Monkey Kids Friends!" Tang called out. "That's right! We got a catchphrase too!" Pigsy yelled. "Kinda playing off of mine and MK's, don't you think?" Jiang called out with a smile and raised eyebrow.
"You and your friends are terrible guests!" The Spider Queen said to Jiang. "Well, your a terrible host!" The girl snapped back. "Yeah! You were gonna eat my best friends! And also these guys!" Mei shouted, pointing to Pigsy and Tang.
"Well, now, your gonna eat this! Mo! Fire!" She added, pressing a button. A multi-barrel gun appeared from the vehicle, and Mo the Cat began shooting, forcing the Spider Queen to back up. "MK! Jiang! We gotta go!" Mei cried, burning the webbing with her sword.
"Right, now let's get outta here!" Jiang agreed, grabbing the staff. She was quickly stopped short as the staff remained where it was, making her land on her back. "Jiang!" MK called, getting ready to turn back, but the Spider Queen landed in-between him and Jiang, who was still struggling to pull the staff free.
The Spider Queen laughed and began trying to hit the girl, who kept dodging everything. "Oi, fuck off already!" Jiang snapped before ground began to shake. Then, it opened up beneath her, sending her and everyone else down.
The Spider Queen used her legs to slow herself down, but everyone else plummeted down. "Sandy, get the boat ready!" Jiang cried, spotting a river down below. Every muscle in her body tensed up in fear.
If there was one thing she hated the most then spiders right now, it was water. She absolutely loathed and despised deep bodies of water, like the river down below. Things like that, always managed to bring back unpleasant memories.
"Water adventure? It's a water adventure!" She heard Sandy yell as she closed her eyes and held on to the staff with a vice-like grip. She felt a large hand grab the back of her jacket, and then heard a loud splash as the boat hit the water. A loud crash signalled that they hit something, and then, everyone, including the boat, was completely submerged.
Whoever was holding her lost their grip, which made Jiang panic a bit, but she felt the hard surface of the boat floor collide with her, and soon enough, she was breathing fresh air again. "Jiang?" She heard MK's voice ask. The girl opened her eyes to see everyone looking at her.
It took Jiang a second to realize she was still on the floor. "Oh, um..." Jiang said before she slowly stood up with the help of the staff. "Uh, let's just say I'm not a big fan of water" she said, rubbing the back of her neck with a nervous smile.
A collective "Oohhhhh!" went around, and Jiang turned around to face the front, holding the staff to her chest. "At least we won't have to deal with her again, right?" Mei said with a chuckle. "I certainly hope it's not anytime soon" Jiang said as the boat went back to the pier.
After bading everyone goodbye, she got back to her apartment and took a quick shower to wash the ocean water out of her hair. Then she blow-dried it before getting changed and sitting on the bed. Even though it had only been a couple seconds, it had been enough to make it feel like she was drowning, and she hated it.
She couldn't exactly get rid of her fear of water because it felt like her chest was tightening to point where she couldn't breathe even time she so much as looked at a large or deep body of water. But she would have to do something about it. She couldn't afford to let her friends see her like that again, all terrified after a simple full body dip into the ocean.
And with that, Jiang let her head fall against the pillow, and fell into an uneasy slumber.
