Impossible Delivery
Jiang held her hands over her eyes as she looked up into the sky, searching for two people in particular. She spotted them land on two tips of the same mountain. One was her brother, and the other, was Sun Wukong.
If she was being honest, watching the two spar was a great form of entertainment. It gave her a chance to see how Wukong fought when it came to her turn, and it also gave her a chance to see how much MK had improved. It was also kinda funny to see Wukong toss her brother around like a rag doll while watching MK try to do the same.
It was also funny to see Wukong effortlessly dodging MK's strikes while simultaneously reading a small book that he seemed to get from thin air. Then, just before MK's feet hit the ground, Wukong wrapped his tail around one of MK's ankles and shot into the air, making shield her eyes again as she tried to follow their progress.
Next thing she knew, MK was inside the mountain, right in the space where Wukong inhabited, upside down and in his own mini crater. "Not bad MK" she said with a smile after she jumped down. "Oh shush" she heard his muffled response, making her laugh a bit.
Wukong landed beside the two, practically beaming. "Better. Way, way better! Your totally getting the hang of this bud!" He cried as he picked MK up and turned him around so that he was back in his feet. "Yeah. You lasted a full minute longer than last time" Jiang said as she crossed her arms.
"Really?!" MK asked. "I mean, it makes sense, you are getting trained by me. Now we just gotta work on your focus" Wukong said. "Yeah, I am the best at-wait, what do you mean work on my focus?! I'm like, number one focus guy!" MK cried.
"Seriously?" Jiang muttered. "If anyone is the number one focus guy, it's me" Wukong said as he pushed MK off of him. "Uh, objection to that. Literally your entire history was just based off of you being impulsive and dodging responsibilities" Jiang said as she took MK's book and flipped through it, pushing down a cardboard cutout of Wukong that had appeared out of nowhere, revealing the real thing behind it, who was currently munching on some peach chips.
"Mm, that's where your wrong" Wukong said through the mouthful of food and pointing the bag of peach chips at her. "The time you are all the immortal peaches you were meant to guard?" MK asked. "That was a long time ago" Wukong replied.
"When you kept annoying everyone in the Celestial Realm?" Jiang said, putting a hand on her hip. "That's a matter of opinion" Wukong said. "The time you picked a fight with Budd-!" Both siblings chorused before a peach chips was shoved into their mouths.
Jiang wasn't going to lie, those things actually tasted really good. They were sweet, like a peach, and yet had the crispness of a chip. No wonder Wukong was always munching on them.
"See? That, right there, is the problem. You guys stress too much about the negatives. Focus, is taking in everything, but honing in on the one thing that matters. Right now, I'm talking to the both of you while also noting the speed of the wind, the moisture in the air, these thirty seven emails from my lawyer, the first eighteen seasons of Monkey King, the animated series, the inner residence if my soul while I contemplate the fact that I'm an immortal being, who will never be able to die, and that bug right over there" he said, the last part drawing everyone's attention to the grasshopper that sat on a tree root before hopping away. "But, I'm paying attention to the both of you. Take in everything, choose what you want to do, and do it! That is focus" Wukong said. "Damn" Jiang commented, raising her eyebrows.
"That sounds, super confusing, and like your just constantly distracted" MK said. Wukong cocked an eyebrow. "Or, maybe, you just can't handle real focus" he said.
"Ooo" Jiang said, stuffing her hands in her jacket pockets as she looked at her brother, who now had an offended look on his face. "I can totally focus! I focus all the time! In fact, the very next thing I do, is going to be the most focused thing ever" He said. "MK! Don't say shit like that! Now he's gonna give us a difficult task to do that directly challenges what you said!" Jiang told him, exasperated.
"Actually, not this time kiddo" Wukong told her. "Okay, good, cause MK, we gotta get back. We still have our jobs to do" Jiang said. After getting back to the shop, they were confronted by Pigsy.
"Hey, MK. Jiang. Do you both mind explaining to me why I have over two hundred orders of noodles that haven't been delivered yet?!" He said, starting out normal toned before shouting. "Eh, I thought Mr. Tang was gonna do it?" MK asked, making Tang look confused and Jiang facepalm. "Distraction. That's your greatest weakness MK. You need to follow through on the task at hand, understand?" Pigsy said before he began to glare.
Jiang sighed at the sight of her brother being in his phone. "Huh?" He asked before getting a wooden spoon to the face. "That's it. I'm done. It's over. Pack your bags, your outta here" Pigsy said as he began to walk away.
"What?!" MK and Jiang both chorused. "Give me another chance, please! I-I can do better!" MK cried, throwing himself in the ground. Pigsy turned to look at him, but was distracted by his phone ringing, which he answered.
Meanwhile, Jiang had a momentary flashback that was triggered by what MK had just said. Please momma! I can do better! I won't mess up again, I promise!, her younger self's voice echoed through her mind. Jiang quickly shook her head to get rid of the memories she had shoved deep to the back of her head.
She was no longer in that situation, and she was now surrounded by people that cared and trusted her. Nobody ever treated her like, they, did. And she hoped she would never be in that situation again.
Jiang was brought back to reality by Pigsy's voice. "Ugh, fine. One more chance. But, if you slip up, even a little bit, well, the delivery bit mine thousand is surprisingly affordable" Pigsy said. Jiang knew that he wouldn't actually get it, but was using it to motivate MK.
"I'm not going to let you down Pigsy! I'm gonna have to focus like I've never focused before!" MK cried. "Good. Cause we have two hundreds orders to deliver. Now let's get to it" Jiang said. After getting everything packed and the course charted, the two set off.
"Okay, do just like Monkey King said. Focus! Take everything in. Lamppost, street sign, amazing awesome arcade filled with the best games in the universe" MK said, getting a little dreamy towards the end of the sentence. "MK! Fo-cus" Jiang reminded him after an eye roll. MK seemed like he was trying, but, in the end, he darted off to the arcade.
Jiang sighed and moved herself over to the driver seat. "He's so dead" she muttered to herself, watching the cars in front of her as she waited for her light to turn green. Once it did, she took off.
She had gotten forty nine orders delivered, and got back into the driver's seat after getting her fifty-ith order delivered, when she was surprised by MK, who practically slammed into the vehicle, sweaty and out of breath. "MK" Jiang said shortly. "Jiang! I am so, so, so, so, so sorry! I got distracted, and I ended up leaving you to take care of all these orders yourself. I promise I'll make it up to you!" MK cried.
Jiang waited until she put the money away before she spoke. "And how do I know your not going to get distracted again?" She asked, not looking at her brother. "I promise you Jiang. I'm not going to get distracted again. Please" MK said.
Jiang glanced at him out of the corner of her eye before she let out a sigh. "Get in. Time is ticking and we still have a hundred and fifty orders to deliver. But this time, I get three quarters of the pay instead of half" she said, looking ahead again. "Fair enough! And thank you" MK said.
"Oh you aren't forgiven just yet" Jiang said, making her brother look at her wide-eyed, before she started driving. After getting another hundred orders delivered, the two came to a fork in the road. One side looked very creepy and dark, not to mention that road was lined by a dark forest, while the other opened up to the beautiful beginnings of a sunset.
"I think we all know what the obvious choice is" MK said. Jiang let out a groan as he took the dark roads. "We're so far away!" He cried after checking the gps.
He came to a stop in a dark clearing. "I'm never going to be a master of focus!" He cried before letting out a frustrated groan. "I'm not giving up! Just do what Monkey King said. First take everything in" he said.
"Alright, so what do you see?" Jiang asked. "Trees. Yes. Random skeleton that I'm definitely going to report to the police later? Yes. Spooky pathway that will inevitably lead to our doom? Yup, check, noted" MK said before he began to lightly hyperventilate. "I might've taken too much in!" He said before screaming as the phone suddenly started ringing.
Quickly answering it, MK did his best to make it sound like he was fine. "Pigsy! Hey! How're things with you? I'm definitely not lost in a terrifying forest" he said. Jiang rolled her eyes and looked around, widening her eyes as she spotted something that was very freaky.
Multiple vines looked like they had come to life, and were now inching their way towards the vehicle. "Why didn't I choose something with windows?!" She hissed, hitting herself on the head a bit. "Shit!" She cried as a vibe quickly wrapped itself around her ankle.
Another quickly joined it, and soon enough, both kids were trapped. MK made it sound like he had bad phone connection before hanging up. Jiang struggled to breath as a vibe found it's way around her neck and began to tighten, slowly cutting off her airways.
She barely heard MK repeating the phrase, "I want to deliver these noodles" to himself like a mantra, but, she definitely felt the pressure get relieved as the vines disappeared. Taking in deep breaths, it took Jiang a moment to realize where they were. "MK. You did it! You were focused, and you got rid of the vines! Thanks for that, by the way" she said, shaking him him before pulling him into a hug, which he returned.
"I, did it! I shut out everything except for what I needed to focus on! I also summoned monster trees with my stress, so, should I see a doctor? We'll worry about that later. I am a master of focus" MK said before letting out a laugh. "Let's deliver some noodles" Jiang said before settling into her seat. Not before taking some pictures of the beautiful sunset that was around them as MK started driving.
She would edit those when she got back to her apartment. Arriving at a Shang Temple, the two got out while Jiang grabbed the order bag. Then, the two got to the doors of the temple and knocked.
Well, Jiang knocked, MK kicked the door down. "Pigsy's Noodles!" He cried. "You finally made it" Wukong said with a smile.
"Monkey King? Wait" MK said before gasping. "MK, I told you he was going to give us a task to challenge the things you say!" Jiang told him. "This was all a lesson to see if I could focus?!" MK cried.
"Uuhh, yes! I wanted to, teach you a valuable lesson! I definitely didn't just order three helpings of noodles to my Shame Temple" Wukong told him. "You were right! I really was, honestly, terrible at focusing" MK said before launching into a mini story. "I'm just gonna take those off of you" Jiang heard Wukong mutter, which made Jiang chuckle a bit, as he took the bag from MK without the boy even noticing.
"Oh so great at focus, but doesn't even realize that you just took the bag from him" Jiang said quietly with a hint of laughter in her voice, which made Wukong smile a bit before he began looking through the bag. "That's great bud! I'm proud of ya. But, this isn't my order" Wukong said after MK finished talking. "Wha-?" MK asked, before he went ballistic.
"MK! Why don't you head back to the car? Looks like there was a mix-up. My bad!" Jiang told him. MK left, huffing and puffing. "Aren't you going to go after him?" Wukong asked her.
Jiang looked at him then gave him another bag in exchange for the one he already had. "Spotted it after my fifth delivery and placed it in a special compartment in the car. After all, who would order three helpings of noodles and have them delivered to a Shame Temple that was, in a way, dedicated to the self proclaimed Great Sage equal to heaven?" Jiang said, looking around. "But it is rather beautiful" she added.
Wukong let out a huff of amusement before looking at Jiang, then around at his temple. "Yeah, I guess it is beautiful" he said before looking back at her. "You know kid. You, are just a bit more interesting than your brother. But don't tell him I said that" Wukong told her.
Jiang laughed a bit. "Oh, don't worry. I won't. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a brother to soothe before he implodes" she said, walking off with the order that still needed to be delivered. She never saw the light smirk Wukong always seemed to have relax into a more genuine smile.
