Immortal Petals

Tang rung out the clothe full of cold water just enough so that it stopped dripping, and folded it a bit before setting it against Jiang's forehead. The girl scrunched up her face a bit and shifted in her sleep. Tang sat down beside her and gently rubbed her arm.

Then, he stood up, shared a nod with Wukong, who was sitting in a chair beside the bed, and then went up front to sit beside Pigsy. "How is she?" The pig demon asked in a uncharacteristicly soft voice. "Well, shes drifting in and out of consciousness, and her fever's getting worse. And nothing is working in bringing it down" the scholar replied.

Pigsy let out a sigh. "Monkey King? Any suggestions?" He asked as he looked in the review mirror. His gaze flickered over to Jiang as she let out a weak sounding cough.

"There, is something. But, I don't think your gonna like it" Wukong told them. That made Tang and Pigsy share a look. They were too far from any civilization, and even then, there wasn't a lot of things that could combat a scorpion demon's poison.

Letting out a quiet groan, Jiang slowly came to. And after a moment of getting her bearings, she slowly became aware of her surroundings. She was laying on something soft, probably a bed, and she had been covered with a blanket.

There was something that was rather cold on her forehead, but considering she felt like her body was on fire and was about ready to vomit, she found relief in the cold. After a moment of muddled noises, she was able to make out quiet voices, and that made her crack her eyes open a bit. Pigsy and Tang were up front, having their own little conversation in hushed whispers, and upon hearing something beside her, Jiang flicked her gaze over, and blanched a bit upon seeing Wukong sitting there in a chair.

His elbows were on his knees, and his gaze was tilted down to the floor. There was a look on his face that made it look like there was nothing yet so much on his mind at the same time. His tail was the only thing that betrayed his current emotions.

It was curling and uncurling and twitching. Things that happened when he was nervous or worried. He didn't even seem to notice her hand until it rested on his thigh.

Wukong jumped a bit at the action, and Jiang withdrew her hand. "Wassup?" She asked, managing a small smile. Wukong blinked at her, then gave an amused huff, though it sounded a bit strained.

"Even in your current condition, your still trying to make people laugh" he said, keeping his voice down. Jiang simply shrugged. "It's just how I roll" she said.

Wuking smiled and shook his head. Then his smile faded. "What's wrong?" Jiang asked.

"There, there is something that can help you. There's a certain type of flower that's called the Moonlit Jimsonweed that grows every night under the full moon. It's leaves and petals can be brewed into a tea of sorts, and it has incredible healing properties. Able to bring someone back from the brink of death. But, there is, a risk, to drinking it" Wukong explained. "And what's the risk?" Pigsy asked. Yeah, he and Tang had been listening in on the conversation.

"The tea, while curing the drinker of any illness they might have, it also makes them... immortal" the demon Monkey told them. Tang and Pigsy both let out their own noises of shock and surprise while Jiang gave a sharp intake of air through her nose. "You telling me that the only way to for her to live is to make her immortal?!" Pigsy yelled, and Jiang winced a bit at the sudden volume.

"It's not like we have a lot of options here" Wukong told him as he stood up. "But you can't just pop something like that out of the blue!" Tang cried. "Besides, the kid's already said multiple times that she doesn't want to be immortal!" Pigsy called out.

"Alright, enough!" Jiang snapped before Wukong could retaliate. Everyone looked at her in slight surprise before looking away from each other. The young female sat up, with a bit of difficulty, and held on to the trim of the bunk that was above her.

"How about, instead of yelling and screaming at each other, we try to think about what options we have, even though there are probably very few" she said. Wukong sighed. "We don't really have any options here Jiang" he said.

"Of course we have options! We always have options!" Pigsy yelled. "Actually, Pigsy, I think Monkey King's right" Tang told him. "What?!" The pig demon yelled.

"Pigsy, think about it. There's no real antidote for a demon scorpion's venom. Besides, even if there was, we're too far away from any civilization" Jiang said. Pigsy was quiet for a moment, though he had a hard look in his eyes. After a moment of silence, his expression softened, and he looked up at Jiang.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked. Jiang let out huff of laughter that didn't hold any amusement as she slumped against her pillow. "I ain't got much of a choice here. So, let's go find this thing" she said.

Everyone was silent for a moment, and then Pigsy turned back to face the front. "So, where do we find this Moonlit Jimsonweed?" He asked. Wukong glanced at him before looking back at Jiang.

There was a strange emotion in his golden yellow eyes that Jiang couldn't quite place. "Get some rest, alright? It'll pass the time by faster" he said. Then, he did something that surprised Jiang a bit.

He leaned over and gently nuzzled her forehead before standing up and heading up front to actually help out with directions. Jiang let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding, then she lightly touched the area where he had nuzzled. She could feel her cheeks heating up again, and a strange feeling settled itself on her stomach.

It wasn't nuasea. This was something else. With a shake of her head, and a huff, Jiang settled down on her side, her back facing the others so that they wouldn't see her tomato red cheeks.

And after a little while, she fell into an uneasy sleep. The trip to the mountain where the Moonlit Jimsonweed grew was a quiet one and almost took up the rest of the day. Nobody really spoke unless it was to check up on Jiang, or to make sure they were going in the right direction.

And when someone did speak, it was with a whisper. But in the silence of the van, it sounded like someone was speaking at a normal volume. "Well. We're here" Pigsy said as he pulled to a stop at the base of the mountain, which now looked kinda cool with a sunset backdrop.

There was a wide path that went up to the top of the mountain, but it wasn't wide enough for the van. Not to mention the low hanging branches and vines would certainly pose a problem. "Alright. Someone needs to stay behind to watch over her" Wukong said as he nodded towards Jiang's body.

As much as he wanted to be the one to stay with her, he was the only one who really knew what a Moonlit Jimsonweed flower looked like, so therefore, he had to go. "I'll stay behind. See if there's something I can do to bring down the fever" Tang said. "Take care of her Tang" Pigsy said as Wukong pulled on a satchel.

The monkey demon spared one last parting glance at Jiang before he and Pigsy hopped out of the van and began to climb up the mountain. Ten minutes after they left was when Jiang woke up, feeling and looking worse than before. It was starting to become a little difficult to breath, her head was pounding, and her skin was beginning to pale.

And she was pretty sure her fever was getting even worse. "Hey Tang? Where's Pigsy and Wukong?" She asked. Gods, even her voice was beginning to get soft.

Not to mention it was a little difficult to even get a word out. Anyway. Tang, who had been sitting beside her, jumped at the sound of her voice.

"Oh, they left a little bit ago to get the Jimsonweed" he answered. "I have a question. Is the Moonlit Jimsonweed in the same family as the Crimson Jimsonweed? I mean, they have similar names" Jiang said. "Actually, yes. They are in the same family. It just one, which you already know, grows only under the crimson moon. However, the Moonlit Jimsonweed grows under the full moon, making it more common than its crimson counterpart" Tang explained.

Jiang nodded a bit to show that she understood, then her body was racked by harsh coughs and splutters. Tang visibly winced at the sound of them, and eventually the coughs died down. Maybe it had been a trick of the light, but he thought that Jiang now looked even more pale.

Please hurry guys. I don't know how much longer she's got, he thought. "So uh, what do these, Moonlit flowers look like anyway?" Pigsy asked, breathing hard. By this point, night had fallen, and now they were using the light of the full moon to navigate.

Though, sometimes, someone tripped over an unsuspecting tree root that laid painfully obvious across the trail, which had narrowed down enough to where they were traveling single file. "Their white with blue tips. And sometimes vice versa. And the stems are a pale green color" Wukong told the pig demon as he stepped over a tree root. Pigsy hummed in reply before he tripped over said tree root, making him grumble in frustration as he steadied himself.

Wukong let our an amused huff in spite of himself. "You doing alright back there?" He asked, looking over his shoulder a bit so that Pigsy could see his teasing smirk. "How about I take point?" Pigsy said with a light growl to his voice. "Mm, nah. I quite like it up here" Wukong shot back as he faced forward again.

Pigsy glowered at him, then he thought of something. "You seem to really care about Jiang" he said. "Of course I do. She's one of my successors" Wukong told him.

"No, I mean, you seem to care about her, on a whole different level than that" The pig demon reiterated. The Great Sage was confused, until he got what Pigsy was hinting at. "Whoa! Hey! I do not like her like that!" He cried, spinning around to face Pigsy, who took one look at him, and burst out laughing.

"That's not what the dark blush on your face says" he chuckled. Wukong growled a bit at him as he turned back around and continued walking, much to Pigsy's great amusement. "I don't hear you trying to deny it anymore?" He said.

"Shut. Up." Wukong hissed as his ears went down. Pigsy thankfully let up, but all the same, Wukong was glad, and relieved when he spotted the glowing white and blue flowers of the Moonlit Jimsonweed in a clearing up ahead. "Alright, here they are. Try not to tear the petals" he said as he raced over to the flowers.

"Not that I was going to" Pigsy retorted before he began to copy what Wukong was doing. He was breaking off the stems that held the life saving flowers just under the leaves. However, their work was, unfortunately, interrupted.

"And what do we have here?" A female sounding voice echoed around the place. Both Wukong and Pigsy froze. "It appears we have a couple intruders that are stealing from us" a male sounding voice answered.

"I thought you said this mountain was uninhabited" Pigsy murmered to Wukong, who shrugged. "I thought it was" he replied. "Go get em boys" the female sounding voice said.

An unearthly screech filled the air, and something barreled out of the shadows, headed towards Pigsy, who let out a fearful yelp. However, the creature was kicked away by Wukong, who took off the satchel and tossed it to Pigsy. "Keep getting those flowers! I'll hold these guys off!" He ordered before attacking the creatures that looked like humanoid bats with glowing red eyes.

Tang was pacing back and forth while continuously glancing out the window. He wasn't sure if Jiang was even breathing at this point, and if she was, her movement was very subtle. "Oh come on, you guys. What's taking you so long?" He murmered, looking out the window for the sixty-second time.

A quiet and somewhat strained sigh made him stop. "Tang, you keep going like that, and your going to wear the floor down" Jiang breathed out, practically forcing the words out of her body. The scholar couldn't believe she was still able to manage a small smile.

"Jiang, please. Save your strength" Tang told her. Jiang simply huffed through her nose. "Well, I am not about to go out without making someone smile here" she muttered.

"Jiang, please. You have to hold on for just a bit longer. Please" Tang begged. He looked out the window. I'm not ready to say goodbye to you, he thought

"Monkey King! Let's go!" Pigsy yelled, now carrying a satchel full of glowing white and blue flowers. Wukong tossed away his current opponent, making them slam into an incoming bat demon, before turning and running after Pigsy. "No! Stop them!" The female bat demon screeched.

But the pig and monkey demons were just a bit too fast. And they managed to get away. "Now to get these back to the van" Wukong stated the obvious.

He simply hopped they weren't too late. The sheer relief, accompanied by nervousness on Tang's face greeted them as they finally got back to the van. "Tang! How is-?!" The words died in Pigsy's tongue as he and Wukong saw the state their female companion was in.

Jiang's skin was almost white, her breathing was severely labored, and her chest was barely moving. Wukong was unnerved by the sight, but was only more determined as he worked quickly. Thank gods Sandy had installed a mini kitchen that could be hidden the wall.

Setting on a pot of water, Wukong got to work with stripping off the leaves and petals. Using Jiang's knife, he poked holes in everything before adding them to the water. Pigsy added a couple things to improve the taste, and before long, the water was boiling.

Pouring the tea into a small cup, Wukong held it carefully as he went over to Jiang. Pigsy and Tang watched with bated breaths and crossed fingers as the Monkey demon gently lifted the girl up and tilted the liquid into her mouth. Jiang swallowed it, then immediately gagged and coughed a bit.

"Kid?!" Pigsy cried. "...Ya'll never warned me that it was going to be so bitter" Jiang told them, glaring slightly. Everyone seemed to let out a sigh of relief.

With just one sip, Jiang already sounded a bit stronger. "At least her personality is still intact" Tang breathed."Yeah, well, unfortunately, you gotta finish it off for it to fully take effect" Wukong said with a slightly apologetic look.

"Seriously?" Jiang groaned. But she did finish off the cup of tea, and was strong enough to hold the second cup on her own. Wukong poured himself a cup, simply for the healing benefits, and with his book held securely in his tail, hopped onto the bed and settled himself down beside Jiang, who seemed slightly surprised by the action, but went along with it.

"So, how're you feeling?" The Monkey demon asked as he opened his book and propped it against his legs. "Alot better than before. This is some quick acting stuff. Even if it does taste bitter" Jiang answered as she took another sip. Wukong chuckled as he sipped from his own cup and flipped the page.

"Yeah, you can say that again" he agreed. Jiang took out her hairsticks, and placed them on the little table that stood beside the bed. Wukong seemed to go a little red in the face as she leaned back against the pillows, and Jiang was quick to notice.

"What?" She asked. "Oh, nothing, I just... I don't think I've ever seen you with your hair down" The Monkey King replied. He reached over and gently pushed a stray strand behind Jiang's ear.

"You should have your hair down more often" he muttered. Jiang chuckled as she blushed a bit herself. "Perhaps I will. When we aren't fighting or working" she said.

Wukong smiled a bit before going back to his book while Jiang finished off her cup of tea. A little while later, and the Monkey King was slightly startled to feel something gently hit his shoulder. He couldn't help the smile that spread across his face at the sight of Jiang's peacful look as she slept.

And if he was being honest, it was one of the cutest things he had ever seen. Wait, cute? Wukong blushed at the thought before glancing back down at Jiang.

Deciding that his shoulder probably wasn't the most comfortable thing, Wukong shifted a bit so that her head was laying more on his chest, and he chuckled a bit at the quiet grumble that left Jiang's throat at the sudden movement. Yeah, scratch cute. She was fucking adorable.

A little while later, and Pigsy realized that the sound of ruffling pages had given way to soft snores. He glanced into the rear view mirror, and couldn't help but smile at the sight. "Mei would lost it over that" he said, startling Tang awake.

"Huh, what?" He asked. Pigsy jabbed a thumb towards the back, making Tang look, and the scholar 'aww'd at the scene. The book that Wukong once held now laid abandoned.

The monkey demon himself was fast asleep on his side under the blankets. One hand was tucked under a pillow, and the other was draped over Jiang's waist as she cuddled into his chest, one hand lightly gripping the yellow colored vest. Wukong's tail could be seen curled around the girl's lower leg.

All in all, it was an adorable scene. "Your right, Mei would go crazy over that" Tang agreed as he and Pigsy shared a knowing look and a smile. They both knew that if Mei would have been there, she would have been taking as many pictures as she possibly could.

Sunlight filtering through the window is what got Jiang to wake up. But she didn't want to open her eyes. She felt too safe and warm to move.

Besides, the person that was holding her was very comfortable. Wait a sec. Jiang peaked her eyes open, and caught sight of ginger fur, a yellow vest, and a dark blue sleeve.

A dark blush exploded across Jiang's cheeks as she tilted her head back, her mind quickly catching up to the fact that she was cuddling with the Monkey King. Her head had been tucked under his, and his arms were wrapped around her in a secure hold that she was sure she couldn't escape from.

Even if she wanted to. Besides, he was warm, and comfortable. And he looked so cute and peaceful, and Jiang definitely didnt want to disturb that.

So, she resigned herself to her current situation, and closed her eyes, intending to go back to sleep. However, that was interrupted when a loud thump that was caused by something hitting the windshield resonated through the van, making her shoot up, and Wukong grumble at the sudden movement. Leaning over, Jiang caught sight of something very surprising.

Or should she say, someone. "MK?!" She cried as she caught sight of her brother sprawled out on the windshield, which, miraculously, hadn't cracked. And that wasn't all.

"You got the first ring!" Tang cried as he quickly went outside and lifted up the hand that held a strangely shaped ring of sorts. "So that's what the Samadhi Fire Rings look like" Jiang commented before letting out a yelp as she fell to the floor. Apparently, she had leaned over the bed side too much.

Glancing up at the sound of a snicker, she caught sight of Wukong looking amused. Though he had his own slight facial discoloration going on. Jiang smiled a bit and stood up, brushing her clothes off before racing outside to hug her brother, who hugged back just as quick.

After their little reunion, the group continued to head west. Sandy was now driving, Wukong was meditating, Pigsy was knocked out on the bottom bunk, Tang and Mei were sitting across from each other as Tang sketched out the ring with Mei watching, Mo was in the passenger seat up front, and MK and Jiang were on the top bunk exchanging stories of what happened while the other was gone. Jiang was absolutely ticked at the fact that Macaque had kidnapped her brother, her friend, and her best friend in a copy of their own vehicle, was slightly confused as to why Red Son had saved them, and was proud that MK got back the transformation powers and managed to steal the ring from DBK while in spider form.

MK was amused from the adventure dealing with a Wukong suffering from amnesia, happy that they had gotten him back to normal, and upset that Jiang had gotten injured and had to give up her mortality in order to live. Though he was very glad that she was here, even though she would outlive him. Permanently.

Jiang had purposefully left out her cuddle session with Wukong. "So, how does it feel? Being immortal?" MK asked. "Honestly, it doesn't feel any different from when I was mortal" his sister responded with a sad smile.

"But hey, we take what life throws at us, and we learn to live with it, and make use of it" she said with a light shrug before noticing the look on her friend's face. "Hey, Mei. You alright?" She asked. "Huh? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm okay" the dragon girl replied with a bright smile, though it didn't really seem as bright as it usually did.

Jiang didn't press on the subject, and instead continued talking with her brother. Even though her mind was back to when she was in Wukong's arms.

To clear up any confusion, Jiang became immortal the moment she took her first sip of the Moonlit Jimsonweed Tea
