72 Transformations
Jiang woke up to someone roughly shaking her shoulder. Letting out an annoyed hum, she looked over to see MK, who looked like he was excited about something, but was doing his best the keep it hidden. "MK? What are you doing here at, three in the god damn morning?" His sister asked him, now looking rather ticked off at the fact that she had been woken up so early.
"Trust me, it's for a good reason! Just meet me up on the rooftop of Pigsy's Noodles. Everyone else is there" MK said to her. "Oh, so I'm not the only one being tormented right now? Alright then" Jiang said, moving to get up before she realized something. "Wait, how did you get in?" She asked.
"...Your window was open" MK told her. Huh, that explains the chilliness in the room. MK went off to Pigsy's Noodles while Jiang dressed in some warm clothes.
The days in the city might've been blessed with heat, but the nights were oh so cold. And so much worse in the winter. Pulling on her jacket, Jiang got her workplace, then to the rooftop, and found everyone there.
"Okay kid, you got us here at, three am? What is so important that it could wait until morning?" Pigsy asked, putting his hands on his hips. "Oh my dear Pigsy, sweet sweet friend, I'm so glad you asked. I have gathered you here because I have unlocked my next mystic monkey power" MK said. "Your even worse than Tang when it comes to adding drama to things" Jiang said with a smile as the scholar gave an offended huff.
But she was proud of her brother for unlocking another one of his powers. "Ohh! What is it what is it what is it?!" Mei asked excitedly. Even Tang couldn't hold back his excitement.
"Teleportation?! Cloud walking?!" He said before letting out a dramatic gasp. "Is it flying?!" He asked. "No, it's better than any of that! I have begun to learn Monkey King's seventy two transformations!" MK said.
Jiang raised an eyebrow. Color her impressed. "The ancient art that has elduded even the wisest masters for centuries?! The ability to transform into nearly everything?! Become an eagle, a tiger, a gorilla?! The power of a god is in your grasp MK! Show me this power!" Tang cried.
MK chuckled a bit. "Well maybe my friend here can show you himself!" He said, turning around to reveal his hand had turned into a pug. Well, the front body of one anyway.
"Aw, high little puppy" Mei said. "MK! You were right, this is the best power!" She added. "I know!" MK cried.
"Less of a power, more of a medical emergency" Pigsy commented. "Pigsy, we're not cutting my brother's hand off just because it's turned into the front half of a pug" Jiang told him, crossing her arms. "What?! Come on, no. I think dog hand's pretty good! Aren't you buddy?" MK said.
"I'll be damned if he ever combines me to shape shift certain parts of my body into animals" Jiang muttered. Apparently, Pigsy noticed something else about her brother. "Uh, are you, hiding, your other hand?" He asked.
"Uuhhh, hmm, no?" MK replied as he kept his hand behind him. "MK, what are you-?" Pigsy said, this time in a more stern tone before he was cut off. "Okay, fine. But just remember, seventy five percent of my job is cleaning" MK said, making Jiang absolutely confused until he revealed his hand.
"What's that got to do with-" Pigsy asked until MK showed them the end of a mop that he had managed to turn his hand into. "...I, had not idea that we could transform into inanimate objects" Jiang breathed as she tilted her head, looking absolutely dumbfounded. Then, an idea popped into her head.
"This means I could possibly transform myself into a knife!" She cried, looking at herself. "Oh, that's a great idea!" Mei called out. "Jiang, no, that's a terrible idea!" Pigsy said to her before he turned back to MK.
"Okay, yes, there's some kinks, but guys, isn't this amazing?! Plus, it turns out the mop is super handy for cleaning up after this guy. Handy. Super handy. Heh, this is, this is a good day" MK said. "Yay. Now let me know when you figure out how to turn your hands back to normal" Jiang told him. "Hmm, you might need to do a bit more training" Tang agreed.
"Training to make more puppy hands, right?" Mei called out. Then, Jiang became aware of a strange sound around the same time the pug did, and she and MK, who didn't have much of a choice, both went over to the edge of the rooftop. Looking over, Jiang spotted two robotic spiders shooting a laser at the metal beams that connected the Pigsy's Noodles sign to the actual building.
"Spiders?! Come on! When will the season of spiders be over?!" MK cried. Jiang let out a sigh. "We really need to work on your arachnophobia" she commented before vaulting over the protective barrier that surrounded the rooftop.
Apparently, the pug on MK's was thinking along the same lines as her, because it also jumped down from the roof top. Jiang then watched as MK landed on his front. "Why do I always land on my face?" He said.
Jiang shrugged, then noticed the sign was being dragged into a drainage area for water. She lunged for it, but all she came up with was a scratched and empty hand. "Alright, going small it is. We'll be back!" She called before shifting into a smaller version of herself.
MK followed her lead, and the two slipped down into the sewers. Thankfully, MK's hands went back to normal as he changed, so, the two were able to go around undetected. They eventually came to a stop on a pipe that was located above an awfully familiar place.
"Ugh, seriously?! Spider Queen's lair?! Again?!" MK snapped. "Dude, of course it's Spider Queen's lair. Why wouldn't it be?" Jiang asked him before something caught her eye. "There's the sign. Come on!" She said once she saw the sign.
She and MK made their way over the pipe, but they stopped when Spider Queen made her appearance. "Spider Queen!" MK breathed, holding on to the back of his sister. "What do you mean, there's not enough material yet?!" The Spider Queen snapped.
"It's just, without the venom, there's no way we'll be able to build as quickly as the last time" Syntax said. Jiang gasped at the sight of an incomplete spider mech. That looked almost exactly like the one she had been imprisoned on.
"Spider Queen's rebuilding her mech!" Jiang breathed. "No, nonononononono. This is bad. Oh this is very bad" MK said. "MK, we cannot let her take over the city again. I think we both know what we need to do" Jiang told him.
"Using all our skills and training. We're going to sneak down there undetected, destroy that head of doom, and reclaim Pigsy's noodle sign!" MK cried. "Couldn't have said it better myself" Jiang said. "Here, comes, tiny kids" MK said, which made Jiang snort with laughter.
"MK, try to not get us caught by making me laugh" she said as she followed her brother through the shadows. "What? Tiny Kids is completely relevant to our current size and situation" MK said. Jiang let out an amused sigh, then she turned her attention to the conversation below them.
"The spider pods, my queen, they just need more time" Syntax stated. "I don't have more time! Don't you understand this is it? This is the time I've got!" Spider Queen snapped as Jiang and MK slid down a pipe and jumped onto another flat surface. She pulled her brother onto it, since he was hanging on the edge.
"Yes but-" Syntax tried to reason. "Get it done!" Spider Queen demanded. As it turns out, the surface Jiang and MK we're standing on was top heavy, and their added weight was enough to make it topple over.
"Oh, that hurt. It's too early in the morning for this" Jiang groaned as she held her side, since that was what she landed on when she hit the floor. Then, her attention was caught by all the spider demons that were staring at her and her brother. "Oh we're so dead" she muttered as she stared wide eyed back at them.
"W-wha-? Monkey Kids?! You two are the reason I'm in this mess! I'm going to tear the both of you apart!" Spider Queen snapped before she and her lackies all jumped at MK and Jiang. Then, MK transformed again. "Behold the power for seventy two transformations!" He cried as he went back to his normal size.
However, both of his hands had now turned into pugs, and Jiang wouldn't admit it, but she had some trouble keeping back her laughter. However, knowing her brother, he was now probably about ready to bolt, so, when he tried to summon the staff, she ran over to him, and hopped onto his shoe, holding on to the laces of it. "Uh, how about we fight later, when I have hands? Deal? Deal. Okay byyyyyeeee!" MK called out before he darted off down a tunnel.
Then, he managed to turn into a spider, though his head didn't really change with his body. It was still enough though to take shelter in some webs. "Huh, look at you MK. If you can't face your fear, become it" Jiang said as she let go of MK and landed on some webbing that was underneath her.
She crossed her arms under her head and watched as MK was terrified by the silk that came out of his own spider body. Jiang giggled slightly then sat up when MK got down to her. "Alright, spider boy, let's go. We have the beginnings of a mech to destroy" she said.
MK let her hitch a ride, and together, they both got back to the room that held the mech. MK turned back into a human with normal hands, and Jiang went back to her usual side. "Okay, new rule. Never turn into a spider ever again. Nope, nope, nope, nope" MK said.
"Okay, time to destroy that spider mech once and for all" Jiang said as she summoned the staff. She made it extend, and grow in size, and the staff cut what was left of the mech in half. Then, Jiang was tackled, and slammed against a wall, being held in place by a pointy leg.
She watched as Spider Queen blinked away some tears at the sight of her officially broken mech, then she glared at the girl she had trapped. "Jiang!" MK cried. "MK, stay back!" The girl called out as Spider Queen pressed her leg harder against the girl's throat.
"You and your rascal brother ruined everything! It's all over because of... Because of..." She said before a strange look came across her face. "It's because of her. You were making the mech to fight the Lady Bone Demon!" Jiang realized, then she lightly struggled to breath as Spider Queen pressed her leg even harder against her throat. "Lady Bone Demon. So it is her!" She snapped before finally letting Jiang go, who held her throat as she slid to the floor.
"Well, if she wants to-" Spider Queen said before MK cut her off. "Yeah, she scares me too. And Jiang" he said. "I'm not scared! I am the queen!" The spider demon snapped at him.
"Please, listen to reason! That woman is so much more powerful than anyone here right now! If we could work together, then we might-" Jiang said before she cut herself off at the sound of Spider Queen's evil laughter. "Work together, ha! I don't need help from a couple of children. I will rule this world. Not even some ancient Bone Demon will stop me!" She cried as she raised a leg over Jiang. The girl braced herself for the blow, but a bright gold light took over her vision, and when the light faded away, a gorilla stood in front of her, holding the leg and preventing it from hitting Jiang.
She was quick to spot the signature red headband that was tied around the gorilla's head. "MK?" She breathed. "W-what? How did you-?!" Spider Queen started to say before she was cut off.
"Finally, something I can use!" MK cried before he swung the Spider Queen around. He let go, and she was flung to the other side of the room. MK approached her with his fists up in the air, ready to bring them down on her.
For the first time, the Spider Queen actually looked scared, and that made something snap in Jiang. "MK! No! Don't!" She yelled. Her brother suddenly stopped and came to a halt in front of the defeated queen.
"I was meant to rule. I was... I would've been a good queen" she said as Jiang got to her feet and walked over to her as MK started talking. "Oh, that's definitely not true. You were in charge, for like, a day, and it was, nah, it was so bad" MK said. "I was just a pawn in the game. Like the both of you" Spider Queen said as Jiang crouched down in front of her.
Even though she was her enemy, something about the fallen Queen's current state made Jiang take pity on her. "Everyone is just a pawn until their chosen for something greater than themselves" she said. MK turned back to his usual human form and sighed.
"It's not too late. You can run" he said. "Haven't you two figured that out yet? There's no running from what she is!" Spider Queen snapped. A hissing voice coming from the blocked grate beside the trio caught everyone's attention.
Then, the grate exploded, revealing the very woman they had been talking about. "Spider Queen's right. Destiny will always catch up" LBD said with a soft smirk on her face. Jiang let out a soft breath of fear, and her hand inched towards her knife.
However, in a flash, the blue vision was back, along with the pounding headache that made her grab her head from the pain. "You. I should have taken you out the second you walked into my lair!" Spider Queen snapped. She looked back and Jiang and MK.
"Kids, run!" She ordered. "Fool" LBD hissed before she summoned some projections of Spider Queen's lackies, that all attacked her. "MK! We gotta go!" Jiang cried as she tugged on her brother's wrist.
Even though she had told them to leave, Jiang still felt horrible for leaving the Spider Queen behind to fight LBD alone. MK successfully turned into a bird, and Jiang turned into an eagle, and MK grabbed the sign. Together, both kids flew out of the sewer and into the daylight.
Right in time too as a blue eruption came from the sewer hole. Getting back to the rooftop, both kids landed a bit harshly, which seemed to wake everyone up. Jiang let out a quick breath before she transformed back into a human.
MK followed suit, and Pigsy was visibly upset over the state of his sign. "Kids! What'd you do to my sign?!" He cried. "Where'd you guys go? We were gonna do a search party, but..." Mei said, trailing off.
"It was just so early. I told them you guys would be fine" Tang said. "Uh, uh, uh. You said, and I quote, 'ah, their goners for sure' " Pigsy said. "Oho, I don't remember it like that" Tang said.
"MK, Jiang? What happened? Is everything okay?" Sandy asked, which put the spotlight on MK and Jiang. "Uh, yeah, we just, uh" MK said. In her mind's eye, Jiang could still see the Spider Queen going up against LBD, and hated the fact that they had simply left her there.
Letting out a soft breath, she quickly put in a bright smile. "Does anyone feel like training today? You know, to try and be ready for the next, challenge" she said. "Sure kids. Name the time. But, uh, preferably not three am, alright?" Pigsy said.
"And maybe not in the city?" Tang suggested. "Fair enough" Jiang said. "Thanks guys" MK said.
Suddenly, Mei gasped. "What?! What is it?!" MK cried as everyone panicked a bit. "Your hand! It's not a puppy anymore!" Mei wailed.
Everyone laughed in relief and amusement. However, for Jiang, the feeling was short lived. She felt horribly guilty for leaving the Spider Queen behind like that, even though she had told them too.
And the feeling that something terrible was about to happen wouldn't let off either. Jiang could simply hope that whatever it was, wouldn't be all that bad.
